62 Political Formations Mobilize For Orji Kalu, Tinubu Ahead Of 2027 The Tripartite Team, a coalition of the OUK Movement, Reality Organization, and APC structures, has thrown its weight behind Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s re-election bid, insisting there is “no vacancy” in the Abia North Senate seat ahead of the 2027 polls. Speaking on ABN TV’s Political Perspective, Prince Emma Nwosu, convener of the group and an APC stalwart in Ohafia, said the team has grown into the most formidable political force in the area, boasting 62 formations and thousands of members mobilizing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Kalu, and other APC candidates. “Before now, the party was divided, but Senator Kalu has brought peace and unity. Today, APC in Abia North is more formidable than ever,” Nwosu declared. He argued that Kalu’s record of performance, coupled with his status as a ranking senator, makes him the most qualified candidate to retain the seat. Nwosu further advised politicians from Ohafia pushing zoning arguments to drop their ambitions and rally behind the incumbent for the sake of competence and stability. “Leadership is about competence and results, not sentiment,” he maintained. With the APC banking on Kalu’s performance and projecting unity across its ranks, the party is optimistic of sweeping victories in 2027, from the presidency to the state assembly.

Abia North: Orji Kalu Has Outperformed His Predecessors – APC Chieftain Nwosu As political debates continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, prominent members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia North have risen in defense of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, describing his performance in the Senate as unmatched in the history of the zone. Speaking on ABN TV’s Political Perspective, Prince Emma Nwosu, an APC chieftain from Ohafia Local Government Area and convener of the Tripartite Team, said Kalu’s record of achievements places him above all those who previously represented Abia North at the Red Chamber. Tracing the history of the zone since 1999, Nwosu argued that Kalu has surpassed the developmental footprints of past senators, including Ike Nwachukwu, Uche Chukwumerije, and Mao Ohuabunwa. “When you look at the impact Senator Kalu has made in just six years, you will realize that none of his predecessors matched his level of service delivery. He has outperformed them in all ramifications,” Nwosu declared. He listed road projects, school renovations, scholarships, empowerment initiatives, and solar-powered streetlights as tangible evidence of Kalu’s effective representation across the five local government areas of Abia North. According to Nwosu, while the constitutional duty of a senator is primarily lawmaking, Kalu has leveraged his ranking position and strong relationship with the federal government to attract development to his constituency. “He is sensitive to the cries of the people and has used his influence in the Red Chamber to bring projects home. That is why the grassroots are solidly behind him,” he added. Nwosu further noted that beyond infrastructure, Kalu has been instrumental in uniting and stabilizing the APC in Abia North, particularly in Ohafia, which had previously been engulfed in internal disputes. He insisted that with the senator’s performance and growing political influence, calls for zoning the Abia North Senate seat to Ohafia are misplaced. “Leadership is not about sentiment. It is about competence, results, and the ability to deliver. Senator Kalu has done that, and that is why he remains the best option for 2027,” Nwosu said. With the APC projecting unity and banking on Kalu’s achievements, party leaders expressed confidence that the senator’s re-election bid will further consolidate the party’s dominance in the zone as the 2027 elections draw closer.

ABIA 2027: Political Heavyweights Rally Behind Gov. Otti's Re-Election — Senator Abaribe, Hon. Ikwechegh Declare Opposition Has No Chance As the political drums of 2027 begin to beat louder in Abia State with displaced opposition attempting to stage a political comeback, two prominent political figures—Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Hon. Mascot Alex Ikwechegh—have thrown their full weight behind Governor Alex Chioma Otti’s re-election bid, declaring that the opposition stands no chance. Senator Abaribe: “Anyone Running Against Otti Must First Face Me” Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, the Indomitable lawmaker representing Abia South Senatorial District, made a bold and resounding declaration during a recent town hall meeting. In his words, “Anyone who dares to run against Governor Otti must first contend with me.” His fearless stance sent shockwaves through opposition circles, igniting heated reactions from rival camps. Abaribe, a seasoned political strategist and one of Abia’s most influential voices, has repeatedly emphasized that Governor Otti’s re-election is non-negotiable. His unapologetic position is anchored on the governor’s sterling performance, leadership style, and people-centered governance, insisting that continuity is essential for the state’s progress. Hon. Ikwechegh: "Pragmatism Over Politics" In a related development, the ever-pragmatic and charismatic lawmaker representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Mascot Alex Ikwechegh, also reaffirmed his unwavering support for Governor Otti. Popularly known as Onye Ocha Na Aba, Ikwechegh has consistently prioritized progress and stability over party politics, standing firm in his belief that Governor Otti is the best choice for Abia come 2027. Despite relentless criticism and politically motivated attacks from opposition forces seeking to drag the state backward, Ikwechegh has remained undeterred, describing such efforts as "retrogressive attempts to return Abia to Egypt"—a metaphor for the dark days of underdevelopment. Old Bende Endorsement: A Game-Changer It is an irrefutable truism, that Hon. Ikwechegh has remained unwavering in his quest towards ensuring a landslide victory for Governor Otti come 2027. The recent 2027 endorsement of Governor Otti by the influential Old Bende Political Bloc affirms the aforementioned. This powerhouse coalition, known for its decisive influence on Abia’s political trajectory, cited Otti’s credibility, character, and competence as the key drivers behind their endorsement—further cementing the governor’s standing across the state. The Road to 2027 With political titans like Senator Abaribe and Hon. Ikwechegh standing rigidly behind him, Governor Alex Otti enters the 2027 race with unmatched momentum and an expanding coalition of gargantuan supporters determined to keep Abia on the path of progress. Suffice it to say that the indomitable duo of Senator Abaribe and Hon. Ikwechegh have by their undeterred political stance, declarations and actions, undoubtedly cleared the political coast for Governor Otti's reelection as Aba North And South, Ukwa East and West and even Old Bende come 2027 will stand still for the Governor. Interestingly, As the countdown begins, one message echoes clearly across the state: Abia is not turning back. Therefore, it will amount to a waste of political energy, strategy and resources contesting against a Governor who has irrefutably proven that indeed, the attainment of Socio-Political And Economic El dorado is feasible. -- Davidson Chijioke Ogbonnaya "Mighty CJ" Is A University Of Nigeria Nsukka Trained Political Scientist, Analyst And Leadership Expert.

2027: Bourdex Too Clannish To Lead Abia North — Bishop Eke Senior Pastor of Kingly People’s Assembly, Bishop Silas Eke, has cautioned the people of Ohafia, Nkporo, and the entire Abia North Senatorial District against supporting the senatorial ambition of Chief David Ogba Onuoha, popularly known as Bourdex. Bishop Eke said Bourdex’s political history shows a man driven by clannish interest, who is unfit to represent the whole of Abia North. He recalled that during his tenure as Mayor of Ohafia Local Government, “everything he did was Abiriba-centred,” leaving other communities sidelined. The cleric further alleged that Bourdex polarised his own clan, caused divisions among leaders, and failed to demonstrate the temperament needed for leadership. “He could not manage disagreements or build unity among his people. Instead, he fanned the flames of division. Someone who cannot hold his own clan together has no business representing a whole senatorial district,” Bishop Eke said. He also accused the Abiriba-born politician of once again showing bias in the ongoing voter registration exercise, mobilising only his Abiriba kinsmen while leaving out other communities in the senatorial zone. “Ohafia and Nkporo, alongside other communities in Abia North will not support a man like Bourdex. Someone who thinks only of his own people and has no regard for others. Let him bury that senatorial ambition,” Bishop Eke declared. In a strong message to the state leadership, Bishop Eke advised Governor Alex Otti to “ignore people like Bourdex” in the political equation. “Governor Otti should not allow clannish politicians to derail his reform agenda. Abia North already has a ranking senator in Orji Uzor Kalu who is doing a very good job at the national level. OUK has brought visibility and projects to our zone; That is the kind of leadership we need, not someone who will divide us further,” he stressed. According to the fiery cleric, Abia North needs “a bridge-builder, a leader with calmness and maturity, not a polarising figure with no control over his temperament.”

ABIA NORTH: Sustaining Credibility Over Mediocrity -- By "Abia North Youth Movement" The inception of the phenomenon of constitutional democracy has hitherto, undoubtedly provided equal platforms for aspirants who seek to either effectively represent the people or represent their interest. The Aforementioned hypothesis, however explains the genesis of Representation within the propinquity Abia North Senatorial District. Abia North, Having suffered Socio-Political And Infrastructural setback, prior to the emergence of Senator Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, began a prestigious journey of renaissance into what can be best described as "Perfectus Districtus Senatorius" in 2019. In line with the aforementioned exquisite journey which began in 2019, irrespective of diverse rollercoasters, Senator Kalu has remained unwavering in his quest towards changing the narrative. It is worthwhile to mention that there's virtually no community in Abia North without Sen. Kalu's Legislative Imprints, ranging from school renovation and reconstruction, distribution of academic materials, construction of rural roads, distribution of solar powered lights, food security through distribution of agricultural tools and fertilizers to local farmers, Meaningful Empowerment, Et Al. Comparing Ude Okochukwu, who spent 20 years in government without a single notable project even in his community, to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a visible and performing legislator, is like comparing silence to action. Despite holding influential positions, Ude left no developmental footprint, no infrastructure, no empowerment programs, and no legacy to speak of. In contrast, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has consistently shown commitment to his constituents through visible projects, road constructions, youth empowerment, and legislative representation that speaks volumes. Similarly, while Chief Bourdex may be known more for uncontrollable outbursts and a short temper than for measurable impact, Sen. Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has distinguished himself with accessibility, humility, and results-driven leadership. His doors remain open to the people, and his name is associated with development, not drama. In politics, results matter more than rhetoric. While some occupy offices for personal gain or prestige, leaders like Senator Kalu prioritizes service, leaving behind a legacy of progress. The people recognize performance, and that’s why Orji Uzor Kalu remains a respected figure, both in Abia North and across Nigeria. Ultimately, history doesn’t remember titles, it remembers Legacy of impact. And Senator Kalu stands tall as a true servant of the people. After OUK, not Ude Okochukwu and certainly not Burdex but at the moment and for 2027, OUK is still Okay. #OUK Is Still Okay 2027 In View

Abia North Senate Seat Not For Sale – Chief Eme Ndubisi Declares In a strong-worded statement addressing recent political developments, Chief Eme Ndubisi has dismissed ongoing media campaigns and criticisms against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, describing them as “ranting and noise-making” by political jobbers and sycophants. Speaking on the state of the 2027 senatorial race in Abia North, Chief Ndubisi asserted that the Senate seat is not up for sale and cannot be wrestled from its current occupant through propaganda or tribal politics. "Senator Orji Uzor Kalu does not need to campaign; he has already done that through years of visible impact, service delivery, and grassroots empowerment," Ndubisi said. "He has earned another term on the strength of merit and performance. Anyone banking on tribal sentiments or trying to use Ohafia as a launchpad to hijack the seat should simply go and rest." The elder statesman emphasized that politics is not child's play and warned those seeking to unseat Kalu that they would have to contend with the “hearts and souls of Ndi Abia North,” who, according to him, have witnessed genuine transformation under Kalu's leadership. "Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is deeply rooted in the hearts of his people. He has capacity, he has results, and he has the people's mandate. Whenever we, as a people, decide it’s time for him to step aside, he will listen. But that time is not now," he added. Describing Kalu’s senatorial journey as a "divine mission," Chief Ndubisi called on all detractors and opposition figures to “hold their peace” and allow the senator to complete his work without unnecessary distractions. He concluded with a clear message: “All this media noise should stop. Politics is not for children. For now, let Senator Orji Uzor Kalu finish what he has started.”

Abia North: Your Temperament Not Good For Public Office, Abia Lawyer Tells Bourdex A respected Abia lawyer, Barrister Ndukwo Agbai, has taken a swipe at Chief David Ogba Onuoha (Bourdex), warning him against seeking any elective position in 2027 or beyond, citing what he described as poor temperament and divisive leadership style. Barr. Agbai, while addressing reporters in Umuahia, referenced Bourdex's time as Mayor of Ohafia Local Government Area, saying it was marked by disunity and political tension. “Chief Bourdex’s tenure as Mayor remains one of the most divisive in the history of Ohafia LGA. Rather than unite the various clans, he succeeded in creating deep cracks and mistrust among the people,” he said. The lawyer insisted that Bourdex's political ambition has become a source of concern to well-meaning Abians, especially those from Abia North Senatorial District. “Leadership goes beyond wealth or popularity. It requires patience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to carry everyone along. Unfortunately, Chief Bourdex has shown that he lacks those qualities,” he noted. According to Agbai, Bourdex’s style of politics is “highly confrontational” and “self-serving.” "Public office is not a private enterprise. It’s about service, not self-promotion. His attitude towards differing opinions is hostile, and that’s dangerous in a democracy,” he added. He warned that any future attempt by Bourdex to run for public office would be strongly resisted by the people who have not forgotten the divisions of the past. “Let me be clear: the people of Ohafia LGA and Abia North are wiser now. We will not allow anyone with a history of polarising the people to come back and cause more damage,” he said. “My advice to him is simple, do not run in 2027 or at any time in the future. Spare yourself the disgrace, and spare the people more pain,” Agbai concluded. |
Abia North: The Truth About OUK’s Impact and the Unified Voice of Ohafia In the unfolding political discourse surrounding Abia North Senatorial Zone (ANSZ), a compelling narrative has emerged—one anchored not in noise or misinformation, but in truth, performance, and unity. At the center of this story stands Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK), a leader whose tenure has redefined representation and rekindled the developmental flame across the zone. Two powerful commentaries recently released—one by Dr. Ody Ajike and another by Prof. Kalu Eni—offer an unfiltered insight into the achievements, integrity, and public trust that OUK continues to command in Abia North. *Leadership Beyond Rhetoric* Dr. Ajike’s analysis provides a clear lens through which to view OUK’s legacy. Abia North, once referred to as the “Rust Belt” of Abia State, has undergone a remarkable transformation since OUK assumed office in the Senate. The senator's projects are not confined to paper—they are visible, measurable, and impactful. From the rugged highlands of Ohafia, Arochukwu, and Umunneochi to the low-lying areas of Bende and Isuikwuato, OUK has initiated and completed numerous projects: - Reconstruction and equipping of schools - Rural road rehabilitation - Health centre upgrades - Electrification of underserved communities - Economic diversification initiatives - Human capacity building These are not just developmental gestures; they are bold, strategic interventions that have shifted the developmental trajectory of the region. OUK’s approach is deliberate and people-centered. He did not inherit a culture of performance—he created one. At a time when public trust in politics is waning, OUK has built a legacy rooted in ethical service and measurable outcomes. *Ohafia Speaks with One Voice* Equally significant is the message from Prof. Kalu Eni, a respected academic and proud son of Ohafia Udumeze, who has firmly disavowed any alleged plots against Senator Kalu. In a statement echoing the sentiment of grassroots unity, Prof. Eni made it clear that Ohafia stands with OUK—without division, without compromise. > “Ohafia people are not betrayers. We won’t betray Senator Kalu the way others did; rather, we shall continue to love him as one of us,” he affirmed. Prof. Eni highlighted OUK’s longstanding contributions to education—credits that helped him, and countless others, achieve academic and professional success. The statement underscores a deeper truth: Senator Kalu’s impact goes beyond infrastructure. It touches lives and builds futures. He also issued a strong rebuke to political opportunists attempting to exploit Ohafia’s name for selfish gain, reminding all that discussions about political realignment can only begin in 2031—not now, and not at the expense of unity. Prominent Ohafia figures—including Dr. Ody Ajike, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, Barr. Emeka Kalu, Chief Fred Idika, Bishop Silas Eke, Rev. Kalu Ukpai Ota, Pastor Caleb Awa, Prince Emma Nwosu, and Chief D.K. Uduma—have all aligned in support of OUK, declaring unequivocally that "Ohafia is one, and we are with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu." *The Verdict of the People* The real question before the public is not political but factual: Has OUK failed to represent Abia North with passion and purpose? No. Has he failed to deliver tangible public goods to his people? Never. Has he restored the dignity of hope and bridged the gap between truth and action? Absolutely. OUK’s performance stands tall not just in comparison to others, but in its own right. He has led with transparency, accountability, and strategic foresight. He remains one of the most impactful senators in Nigeria today. *Looking Ahead* As we move toward another political cycle, it is imperative that we separate propaganda from progress. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s achievements are not mere statistics—they are lived experiences across communities. His enduring popularity and record of service justify a renewed mandate. This is the time for collective action and clarity of purpose. Abia North cannot afford a regression into the era of silence and stagnation. The journey of development must continue—and OUK must continue to lead it. ———- Prof. Obioma Nduka Nkpa, Bende LGA

Today, at the public hearing to defend my bill for an Act to Establish a Federal Technical and Vocational Training Centre in Aba, I emphasized the immense benefits of empowering Nigerians through skill-based education. Aba, renowned for the dexterity and ingenuity of its people, has long been a hub of artisanal and entrepreneurial excellence. With the right support and investment, this city can emerge as Africa’s own version of China in terms of local production and innovation. *Even though there was a power outage during my presentation of the bill, it did not deter us from driving home the message. If anything, it further underscored the urgency of empowering Aba’s workforce—so that we may one day solve, from within, the very electricity challenges that continue to plague our country.* I further argued that the strength of our currency and economy is intrinsically linked to how much we produce as a nation. The Federal Government must therefore prioritize productivity and invest in local content. This has been the path taken by industrial powerhouses like China, India, Japan, and the United States, all of whom achieved sustainable economic growth by empowering their local industries and workforce. I am hopeful that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will assent to this bill, which aligns with and adds tangible value to the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration. Aba remains the Japan of Africa—resilient, industrious, and full of promise.

PUT NIGERIA FIRST OR STEP ASIDE’ — DR. UCHE OGAH TO POLITICAL LEADERS. June 12 stands as more than just a date on the calendar — it is a powerful emblem of Nigeria’s enduring struggle for true Democracy. It recalls that Historic day in 1993 when Nigerians transcended ethnic, religious, and regional lines to VOTE in what remains the freest and fairest election in the Country’s HISTORY. The presumed winner, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, became a beacon of Hope for a united and progressive Nigeria. Though his mandate was tragically annulled, the democratic Spirit it awakened proved unstoppable, eventually ushering in civilian rule in 1999. Recognizing June 12 as Democracy Day is therefore not just a correction of HISTORY but a Tribute to the indomitable will of Nigerians who dared to envision a better nation. Speaking on this year’s Democracy Day, the Doyen of Abia Rejoice, renowned industrialist and a purposeful Political Leader, DR. UCHE OGAH, described June 12 as “a mirror through which Nigeria must continually assess the strength and sincerity of her democratic journey.” For DR. OGAH, Democracy goes beyond the ritual of elections — it is about justice, equity, and equal opportunity for every Citizen. He passionately called on Leaders to put Nigeria first or step aside, warning that the Nation cannot move forward if those entrusted with Power continue to serve themselves rather than the people. “Let June 12 remind us,” he declared, “that the true Power of Democracy lies not in the corridors of Power, but in the collective will and voice of the people.” Urging Nigerians to rise above division and recommit to Unity, he emphasized that Democracy Day should not be a mere ceremonial observance, but a day of deep reflection — a time to honor both the famous and forgotten heroes who paved the path with courage and sacrifice. Happy Democracy Day Fellow Citizens. Abia Rejoice Movement June 12, 2025.

"I am using Kalu's infrastructure template in Aba, to Develop Abia State" - Gov. Otti. The former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who is representing Abia North Senatorial District at the Senate has received laudable commendation from the incumbent Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Alex Chioma Otti. During the courtesy visit, Governor Otti on Sunday evening, 8th June, 2025 acknowledged the enviable records set in Aba and across Abia by his predecessor, Orji Kalu from 1999-2007. Otti without mincing words, made it public that Kalu's Blueprint is what he is using to develop Aba city and other parts of Abia State. “Government and Governance is a continuum, it can be broken but you must go back and recover it,” the Governor asserted. Otti noted that Kalu did an excellent job in the State and he will borrow a leaf from. The number one citizen of Abia State also emphasized how his mother was an ardent and one of the firm supporters of Kalu when he was Governor, recalling how he constructed standard roads network across Aba and hasn't stopped using the template led down by Kalu. “I can assure you, that template is not wrong. You fix the place that generates the revenue, the revenue will come and you use it to fix other places,” Otti opined. Gov. Otti's Mum and others before, within and after her generation are very conversant with how Kalu did very well as governor and impacted the lives of Abians in Education, Agriculture, Road Infrastructure, Commerce, etc. Kalu paid teachers salaries as and when due, provided free education, free buses and educational materials to students and pupils of Abia State. Under Kalu's leadership, Abia State University never lost accreditation by Nigeria University Commission, NUC. Kalu brought in auxiliary professors from University of Nigeria, Nsukka to boost the workforce in ABSU. The State owned schools never went on industrial strike for 8 years he was governor. The Abia State Teaching Hospital was built in Aba and was well equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment and consultants who were well grounded at what they do. Kalu built Judges quarters for Judges and made their lives more comfortable than how he met them. These and many more are the exceptional ways Kalu utilized his security votes and attracted so much developmental changes to Abia State as governor. Recall that Kalu became Governor at a very young age of 39, coming with the well established business mindset he put forth the knowledge to work which made him to be recognized as the "Action Governor" by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo who came on a working visit to Abia State. After seeing the tremendous transformations brought by Kalu, Obasanjo had no option than to praise Kalu for doing much with meagre allocations at that time. Also recall that previously during commissioning of the Aba Integrated Power Project, Governor Otti had acknowledged Kalu as the pioneer brain behind the Aba power grid. This project was primarily driven by Geometric Power Limited and involves a privately owned power distribution company, Aba Power Limited Electric (APLE), licensed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission. Gov. Otti thought it wise to reference Kalu as the forerunner of the Aba Grid. Kalu while speaking described Gov. Otti as who he can't play politics with and assured him of visiting him whenever he is in the State. Kalu told the Governor that he would have been around for his 2nd anniversary in office, but for President Tinubu who earlier invited him to Lagos for his own celebration to commemorate his two-year stay in office.

Orji Uzor Kalu: A Leader Who Serves Beyond Politics By Evans Ndukwo There are politicians who chase power for prestige, and then there are those like Orji Uzor Kalu, who see power as a tool to serve and uplift their people. His life is deeply rooted in community, compassion, and a visible passion for helping others rise. Whether in the corridors of business or the chambers of government, Kalu has remained unshakably loyal to the dreams of ordinary Nigerians. His love for his people is not theoretical—it is practical, personal, and powerful. From village roads to urban classrooms, from healthcare support to youth empowerment, Kalu continues to show that leadership is most meaningful when it is felt, not just declared. Through his Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation, he has impacted thousands of lives across Nigeria—not just with kind words, but with life-changing action. The Foundation has sponsored young Nigerians to study medicine abroad, giving them the opportunity to pursue world-class education and return home to improve healthcare in their communities. In a country where access to quality education and professional advancement is often reserved for the privileged, this intervention has broken generational barriers for many families. Beyond education, the Foundation has also empowered subsistence farmers to expand their reach into commercial agriculture. By providing tools, training, and financial support, Kalu has helped transform local farming into profitable ventures, creating jobs and increasing food security in rural areas. His support doesn't end in the fields. In urban and semi-urban neighborhoods, young girls and mothers have been trained in tailoring, hairdressing, and small-scale enterprise, and then empowered with full startup kits to begin their own businesses. This isn't just philanthropy—it's economic liberation for hundreds of women who were once unemployed or underemployed. Kalu’s generosity extends to small and medium businesses. Through financial assistance and mentorship, he has helped local entrepreneurs grow their ideas into functioning businesses that now support families and even employ others. His foundation isn’t a vanity project—it is a bridge to opportunity, rooted in a deep understanding of what everyday Nigerians truly need: support, trust, and a real chance to build better lives. This compassion is not new. Long before many of his peers recognized the power of giving back, Kalu was already serving. In the late 1990s, he contributed a staggering ₦500 million to the formation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)—a gesture that was not just political but patriotic, aimed at stabilizing Nigeria’s democracy after years of military rule. As Governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007, he implemented free education from primary to tertiary level, rehabilitated hundreds of roads, upgraded healthcare institutions, and initiated rural electrification in over 150 communities. His government also empowered civil servants through agricultural schemes and financial grants, setting a precedent for people-oriented governance in the region. Today, as the Senator representing Abia North, Kalu remains an active servant of the people. He has facilitated the construction of more than 140 rural roads, installed solar-powered streetlights across numerous communities, built civic centers, renovated schools, and continued to distribute free textbooks and school supplies to students. His constituency is not just represented—it is remembered, respected, and regularly reached. What makes Orji Uzor Kalu different is his consistency. He does not only show up during elections; he shows up when it matters most—when someone needs school fees, when a village needs water, when a youth needs hope. His philanthropy is sustained, his service sincere. Whether through legislation, direct assistance, or quiet acts of kindness, he has remained close to the ground, walking with the people and not ahead of them. In a time when many leaders forget their roots, Kalu remains deeply grounded in his. He has used wealth not to distance himself from the people, but to bring himself closer to their needs. He has used power not to intimidate, but to illuminate. He has used privilege not to insulate, but to empower. Orji Uzor Kalu’s story is not just one of personal success—it is the story of a man who has made service to others his life’s mission. In a nation desperate for leaders who put the people first, Kalu reminds us that public office is not just a title—it is a responsibility. And he continues to fulfill that responsibility with grace, humility, and dedication. Evans Ndukwo, a teacher, administrator, and public affairs analyst, writes from Abiriba, Abia State.

Sack ineffective Security Chiefs, Ministers Now, Orji Kalu Tells Tinubu From Abuja Kenneth Udeh Former Governor of Abia State and current Lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently relieve underperforming Ministers and Security Chiefs of their duties, warning that sentimental leadership decisions could worsen Nigeria’s socio-economic instability. Speaking in a wide-ranging interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Kalu, who is also the current Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), stressed that the President must demonstrate political will and courage in reshuffling his cabinet and security leadership to address insecurity and economic discontent. "Both security chiefs and Ministers, some of them should go. President Tinubu must be courageous enough to sack some of these Ministers," Kalu declared during the interview with Seun Okinbaloye. He revealed that he has privately advised the President about specific individuals who, in his opinion, have failed to deliver on their mandates. While declining to name names, Kalu insisted that performance, not loyalty, should be the benchmark for public service saying; “If he will take my advice, most of these Ministers I have apprised of, and I’ve talked to him privately some of them should go. "If he (President Tinubu) will take my advice, some of these security chiefs should go. There must be no sentiment when it comes to redeeming Nigeria. Kalu blamed worsening insecurity, particularly in farming communities, on political sabotage, alleging that some elite interests are sponsoring unrest to destabilize Tinubu’s administration and seize political power. “The insecurity in Nigeria is politically induced by politicians and businessmen. Some of them are not even looking for money, they just want to grab power,” he said. He also criticized the widespread use of U.S. dollars in real estate and street transactions, calling it a symptom of Nigeria’s weak currency controls and a threat to economic sovereignty. According to him, the government must outlaw street-level use of foreign currencies and emulate countries like South Africa, India, and the UK which tightly regulate currency exchange. “The use of dollar bills on the street should stop. Landlords and estate agents using dollars as exchange should not happen in Nigeria. If we want to survive, we must take control of our currency, he charged. While acknowledging that Nigerians are suffering and many reforms are yet to yield tangible benefits, Kalu argued that President Tinubu’s economic policies are on the right path. He cited improvements in macroeconomic indicators such as exchange rate stability and industrial capacity utilization, but admitted the effects are yet to reach the average Nigerian. “The macro side is coming up, but Nigerians in the lower area are still suffering. "These changes are still trickling down; it’s going to take another one to two years.” He urged Nigerians to give the administration more time, citing historical reform examples such as Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew, while emphasizing the need for unity, economic patriotism, and depoliticization of national development. “We are all friends Tinubu, Atiku, Amaechi, we were all Governors together. Let’s come together and think about the man on the street.” The interview comes amid mounting public frustration over economic hardship, rising insecurity, and widespread political tensions as the country nears the midpoint of President Tinubu’s first term.

Orji Uzor Kalu: The Symbol, The Strategist, The Soul. By Abdul Mohammed Lawal. Just this afternoon, I saw a picture from the plenary session of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, walked in wearing an outfit that immediately turned heads. It wasn’t loud in colour or extravagant in design, but there was something about it that carried a message louder than words. At a time when politics in Nigeria is increasingly about subtle positioning and quiet alliances ahead of the 2027 presidential election, his outfit did all the talking. There were smiles in some corners, surprise in others who felt he might be having double thoughts, and knowing nods among the politically attuned. Without making a single statement, he declared his support for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; and it's not through press releases or public speeches. This small moment captures the man we are about to explore: a politician who plays the long game, a businessman who has left amazing footprints across Nigeria’s economic space, and, at his core, a man with a strikingly beautiful soul. Orji Uzor Kalu was born on 21 April, 1960 in Igbere, a village in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. His father, Mr Johnson Uzor Nesiegbe Kalu, and his mother, Elder Mrs Eunice Uzor Kalu, raised him with strong values of hard work, discipline, and service to others. Growing up in a close-knit Igbo community moulded his early life and helped lay the foundation for the man he would become. He is not the easiest man to define. He is often seen through the lens of politics and power, yet those who have spent time with him speak of a surprisingly gentle and warm personality beneath the tough exterior. He is quick to smile, open to laughter, and generous both in spirit and in deed. Kalu’s story is full of trials, political persecution, imprisonment, and health challenges that would have broken many. Yet through it all, he has maintained a calm dignity. He does not seek pity, nor does he carry bitterness. Instead, he often tells stories of forgiveness and of lessons learnt. There is a patience in his voice when he speaks, a kind of inner peace that comes from a man who has faced storms and survived. Those who work closely with him speak of his unrivalled loyalty and empathy. Drivers, aides, and staff over the years often describe him as someone who remembers names, checks in on families, and gives second chances; even when they are not deserved. His kindness is quiet but consistent; the kind that does not need cameras or applause. What makes this part of him even more remarkable is that he has managed to stay kind in a political environment that can be both cruel and unforgiving. While others have grown cold with age and power, Kalu’s human side remains very much intact. Without doubt, Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu stands out in South East politics not simply because of his long career like many would think, but because of how he has played the game with calculation, calmness, and clarity. From his days as Governor of Abia State to his current role in the Senate, Kalu has mastered the art of political survival and relevance. The South East is a region where politics is often heated and divided, but it’s striking how he has remained steady, avoiding unnecessary noise while maintaining strong connections across the country. He does not speak too often, but when he does, it carries weight. He has friends in every corner of Nigeria, from the South to the North, across both ruling parties and the opposition. This ability to maintain bridges, even when others are burning theirs, is a rare gift in our politics. Kalu’s refinement as a politician lies in how he balances loyalty with ambition, silence with impact, and tradition with strategy. He is not in a rush to prove anything. He plays long-term politics, guided by patience and precision. Today's symbolism is his own unique way of making a statement he is leading the line for the Ndigbo ahead of 2027 without needing to shout about it. Long before Orji Uzor Kalu became a household name in politics, he was already a successful businessman. From humble beginnings, he built the SLOK Group into a major player with interests in shipping, media, oil, banking, and manufacturing. His business empire brought him wealth, influence across borders, vision, and a platform to lift others. The beauty of it all is that Kalu did not hoard success, he shared it. Through his network, mentorship, and quiet support, he helped a generation of young Igbo businessmen find their feet in Nigeria’s challenging business landscape. These were men in their late 20s and 30s back then, many of whom are now in their 40s and 50s, running large companies, leading industries, and creating jobs for thousands. These “New Generation Billionaires”, as they are sometimes called, are not just rich, they are strategic, connected, and smart; traits they picked up from Kalu. He showed them how to build relationships beyond the South East, how to navigate Lagos, Abuja, and even international business circles. Above all, he taught them the importance of political awareness. Many of them have not forgotten their roots, and they are already passing on the goodness he planted in them. In interviews and private conversations, they mention Kalu as a key figure in their rise. Some started as assistants, others were given their first major contracts, and some simply watched him closely, learned from his daring business moves, and used his contacts to grow. This legacy, about the people he nurtured, is bigger than politics or business. Yet, people don’t talk about it often. What a man! As Nigeria moves steadily towards another election season in 2027, the country will once again be defined by the choices of its political class. In this mix, men like Orji Uzor Kalu matter; because of who they are. Leaders who understand power, who remain human, and who quietly build the future through people. What a story it has been, from boardrooms to ballot boxes, from prison cells to Senate floors. His Excellency, Orji Uzor Kalu, reminded us again today that the most powerful messages are not always shouted. Sometimes, they are simply worn.
