The attempt to turn alleged billboard vandalism into another avenue for manufacturing cheap sympathy is nothing more than a desperate distraction from the political reality unfolding across Bende Federal Constituency. While the camp of Benjamin Osisiogu continues to recycle outdated narratives, the growing acceptance of Dr. Chima Anyaso, is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

The people of Bende are looking beyond billboards, accusations and the political Hooliganism being orchestrated by the sinking camp. RE: COMPREHENSIVE DEFENCE AGAINST ALLEGATION OF EXTORTION OF ₦1,500,000, SUSPENSION FROM OFFICE AND CONSEQUENTIAL DEFAMATION OF MY CHARACTER

I write to formally and unequivocally respond to the allegation that I extorted the sum of ₦1,500,000 (One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) from students, purportedly as a condition for passing MBBS Examination.

I categorically deny the allegation in its entirety.

The allegation is not only false and seriously prejudicial to my professional standing; it has also subjected me to enormous reputational damage following the subsequent decision to suspend me and the publication of the matter on social media by Mr. Alex Onyia, where the circumstances surrounding the allegation and my suspension were circulated to the public.

I consider it necessary to place my position formally on record and to request that this matter be addressed strictly in accordance with the principles of fair hearing, natural justice, due process and objective investigation.

1. THE ALLEGATION OF ₦1,500,000 EXTORTION
At no time did I demand, collect, solicit, authorise, or personally benefit from ₦1,500,000 from students for marks in the MBBS Examination. Upto seven(7) lectures were involved in the examination and my contribution to the success or failure of the students in the said examination is little since I only set one theory question and had this question to score.

I therefore challenge the allegation to be established by credible and verifiable evidence.

If it is alleged that I collected this money, I respectfully request that the following particulars and evidence be produced:

The names of the students who allegedly made the payment;
The date, time and location of the alleged transaction;
The person to whom the money was allegedly paid.
Any messages, correspondence, recordings or other documentary evidence connecting me to the alleged transaction;
The witnesses upon whose testimony the allegation is founded; and
The specific evidence establishing that the money was demanded or collected by me for marks.
The fact that an allegation has been made cannot, by itself, constitute proof of the allegation.

2. CIRCUMSTANCES PRECEDING THE ALLEGATION
I am also deeply concerned about the circumstances in which this matter arose.

In my account of the events, I stated that I “danced into the gallery” of Professor Ndukwe, the Dean of the Faculty, where I met Dr. Hope Okechukwu, my predecessor as Head of Department.

The circumstances surrounding this encounter and the events that followed deserve careful, independent and impartial examination.

I do not make this statement to unjustly accuse any individual. Rather, I am requesting that the investigation should not examine only the allegation against me but should also examine how the allegation originated, the persons involved in its emergence, the circumstances in which the information was obtained, and whether there was any deliberate attempt to create or manufacture circumstances capable of implicating me.

If there was indeed a deliberate attempt to set me up, the truth can only emerge through an independent examination of all the surrounding facts and not through reliance on a predetermined narrative.

3. THE STATE GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATION PANEL
I acknowledge that, based on the allegation, the State Government constituted an investigation panel to investigate the matter.

I welcome a genuine investigation because I have nothing to hide.

However, the very fact that an investigation panel was constituted demonstrated that the matter was an allegation requiring investigation, and not necessarily an established finding of guilt.

I respectfully urge that the distinction between allegation, investigation and established misconduct be maintained throughout the process.

I am prepared to appear before the appropriate panel, provide documents, answer questions and identify witnesses capable of assisting the panel in arriving at the truth.

I equally request that the panel's proceedings and eventual findings be allowed to speak for themselves.

4. MY SUSPENSION SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS PROOF OF GUILT
I understand that my suspension followed the allegation and the investigative process.

However, suspension from an administrative position should not be presented or understood as conclusive proof that I committed the alleged offence.

An administrative suspension, particularly where an investigation is ongoing or has not resulted in a final determination of guilt, should not be converted into a public declaration that the affected officer is guilty of extortion.

I therefore respectfully request that my suspension be treated within its proper administrative context and not as evidence establishing the truth of the allegation.

5. PUBLICATION OF THE MATTER ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Of particular concern to me is the subsequent publication of the matter on social media by Mr. Alex Onyia.

The publication has significantly expanded the audience exposed to the allegation and has consequently magnified the damage to my reputation, professional standing and personal integrity.

There is a fundamental difference between an institution conducting a confidential investigation into an allegation and an individual publishing allegations concerning a person's alleged misconduct to a potentially unlimited social-media audience.

Where allegations that have not been finally established are presented to the public in a manner capable of making reasonable persons believe that the accused person is guilty, the resulting reputational damage can be substantial.

I therefore respectfully request that the University take note of the circumstances and timing of the publication and preserve any relevant records, correspondence or official communications relating to the disclosure of the matter.

6. DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER AND REPUTATIONAL DAMAGE
The allegation of extortion is one of a particularly grave nature. It carries an obvious implication of dishonesty, corruption and abuse of office.

I have spent years building my professional reputation as an academic and administrator. To publicly associate my name with the extortion of ₦1.5 million from students without establishing that allegation by credible evidence has caused serious injury to my reputation.

The social-media publication has the potential to reach colleagues, students, academic institutions, professional associates, friends, family members and members of the wider public.

I therefore reserve my right to pursue every lawful remedy available to me in respect of any publication that falsely presents me as having committed extortion or otherwise damages my character and professional reputation.

I respectfully emphasize that this position is not intended to obstruct any legitimate investigation by Government or the University. Rather, it is intended to protect my fundamental right to have my name and reputation treated fairly until the allegation is established or disproved through due process.

7. REQUEST FOR THE EVIDENCE AGAINST ME

For the avoidance of doubt, I respectfully request that I be furnished with the complete particulars of the allegation and the material evidence upon which it is based.

In particular, I request:

The written complaint or petition that initiated the matter;
The identities and statements of persons alleging that I collected the money;
Any documentary evidence of payment;
Any electronic communications relied upon;
Any audio or video evidence relied upon;
Any evidence connecting the alleged ₦1.5 million specifically to me;
Any report or preliminary finding already made concerning the allegation; and
The terms of reference of the State Government's investigation panel, insofar as I am entitled to receive them.
I am confident that once the evidence is subjected to objective scrutiny, the truth will emerge.

8. MY DEMAND FOR FAIR HEARING

I respectfully insist that I be accorded a fair opportunity to defend myself before any final conclusion is reached concerning the allegation.

I should not be condemned by public opinion, social-media publications, hearsay or untested accusations.

My position is simple:

If I collected ₦1.5 million from students for MBBS exams, let the evidence establish it. If I did not, then my name and reputation should not be destroyed by an allegation that cannot be substantiated.

9. CONCLUSION AND REQUEST

In view of the foregoing, I respectfully request:

That the allegation against me be subjected to a thorough, impartial and transparent investigation;
That I be given access to the particulars and evidence upon which the allegation is founded;
That my constitutional and administrative right to fair hearing be fully respected;
That no unproven allegation be treated or publicly represented as an established fact;
That the circumstances surrounding the emergence of the allegation, including my encounter with Professor Ndukwe and Dr. Hope Okechukwu, be objectively examined;
That the circumstances surrounding the publication of the matter on social media by Mr. Alex Onyia be documented and investigated where appropriate;
That any official communication concerning the matter accurately distinguish between an allegation, an investigation and a final finding; and
That my reputation and professional standing be protected from unjustified or malicious publications.
I remain willing and ready to cooperate fully with the State Government investigation panel and all lawful institutional processes.

The Abia Solidarity Forum, a political pressure group, has alleged that there is a coordinated plan to drag Labour Party chieftain and Bende Federal Constituency aspirant, Dr. Chima Anyaso, into unfounded financial crime allegations ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group made the allegation while addressing journalists in Umuahia.

Speaking on behalf of the forum, its spokesperson, Chijioke Okwuoha, said the group had received information which it described as allegations that had not been independently verified. According to him, some political interests were allegedly planning to sponsor petitions and media campaigns aimed at portraying Anyaso as being under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other public institutions for political purposes.

The forum stressed that it was not opposed to lawful investigations of any citizen where credible evidence exists. However, it cautioned against the misuse of security and anti-corruption agencies for political battles, warning that such actions could undermine public confidence in institutions charged with enforcing the law. The man who was warmly received and publicly celebrated by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and photographed in his exalted office has now been arrested over allegations relating to a fake agency. However, beyond the arrest itself lies a far more significant question that demands urgent answers: who facilitated the inclusion of the agency's proposed budget in Nigeria's national appropriation and ensured its passage without the rigorous scrutiny expected of the National Assembly?

At this stage, there is no evidence implicating the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the alleged insertion of the budgetary allocation. In Abia North Senatorial District, many believe that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has continued to uphold this obligation through visible projects, strategic interventions, and empowerment initiatives that have touched communities across the zone.

As the representative of Abia North in the Senate, Senator Kalu has consistently attracted and executed projects aimed at improving the quality of life of his constituents. HIJACKING A LEGACY: WHY GOVERNOR ALEX OTTI MUST ACT NOW TO SAVE GOVERNMENT COLLEGE UMUAHIA

Government College Umuahia (GCU), founded in 1929 by Reverend Robert Fisher under the colonial administration, is not just a school. it is an institution woven into the intellectual and moral fabric of Nigeria. For decades, it stood as a beacon of excellence, earning its reputation as the “Eton College of Nigeria” and the “Pearl of the East,” producing some of the finest minds across Nigeria and beyond.

This legacy has endured war, devastation, and abandonment. It survived the Second World War. It survived the destruction of the Nigeria–Biafra War, which left its infrastructure in ruins and its academic culture severely diminished. But what GCU now faces is far more insidious: the risk of being undermined from within by opportunistic interference dressed in the language of state authority.

After the war, the College’s revival was not driven by government, but by sacrifice. Reverend Robert Fisher and his wife, Ruth, heartbroken by the collapse of what they considered their only “child”—donated their life savings to rebuild the school. Following Ruth Fisher’s death, Reverend Fisher sold his home in England and placed the proceeds in trust for GCU. That spirit of sacrifice inspired generations of Old Boys, who have since carried the burden of rebuilding the institution.

In 2014, alarmed by the school’s decline, the Government College Umuahia Old Boys Association (GCUOBA), spanning Nigeria, North America, and Europe, formally partnered with the Abia State Government. Acting on the government’s advice, they established the Fisher Educational Development Trust (FEDT), a not-for-profit vehicle legally structured under Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) to manage the school. This arrangement was codified in a Deed of Trust executed on December 22, 2014.

What followed was not rhetoric, but action. The Old Boys, through the FEDT, invested over ₦5 billion, without reliance on state funds, to rebuild infrastructure, restore academic standards, and reposition GCU as a world-class institution. They temporarily shut down the school in 2019 to undertake extensive redevelopment and later reopened it to a significantly improved standard. Scholarships were introduced. Governance structures were formalized. A dying institution was brought back to life.

That progress is now under threat.

In clear violation of the FEDT Constitution, the Deed of Trust, and the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), a group of individuals who were neither nominated nor elected through the established process—purported to constitute themselves as the Board of Trustees of FEDT in July 2025. These individuals include HRH Eze Dr. Eugene Ndimele, Hon. Justice Obisike Oji, rtd., Dr. Okechukwu Madukwe, and Engr. Ikechukwu N.A. Ugwuegede.

The process for appointing trustees had already been conducted transparently. KPMG was engaged to oversee nominations across all branches of the Old Boys Association globally. Elections were duly held on May 30, 2025, in compliance with the FEDT Constitution. None of the individuals now claiming authority emerged from that process. Yet, relying on alleged backing from within government circles, this group proceeded to:

• Declare themselves trustees without legal basis.
• Issue directives to the College School Management Board (CSMB).
• Attempt to assume control over governance and reporting structures.
• Purport to dissolve the duly constituted School Management Board.
. Attempt to hijack the GCU's Bank accounts.

These actions are not only unlawful, they are destabilizing. They undermine established governance, erode donor confidence, and threaten the continuity of academic activities at the College.

Particularly troubling is the claim that these actions were carried out following an “inauguration” at the Abia State Government House. There is no provision in either the Deed of Trust or the FEDT Constitution empowering the state government to constitute or inaugurate trustees. At most, the government is entitled to nominate two trustees—nothing more.

Governor Alex Otti intervened on September 11, 2025, in a meeting with all parties, where the authority of the duly constituted Board of Trustees was reportedly affirmed. However, subsequent actions and communications attributed to government channels appear inconsistent with that directive, raising serious concerns about internal contradictions within the state’s administrative machinery, especially, the involvement of Ugochukwu Okoroafor, the governor’s uncle, who the governor calls “Dee.”
Despite the Governor’s intervention, the self-styled trustees have continued to assert authority, deepening divisions within the Old Boys Association and creating uncertainty in the management of the College.

This situation raises a fundamental question: what message does this send to private investors and development partners? If a legally structured, donor-funded, non-profit educational initiative, backed by formal agreements and verifiable investment can be subjected to attempted takeover through informal influence, what protection exists for future public-private partnerships in Abia State?

This is not merely an alumni dispute. It is a test of governance, rule of law, and the credibility of Abia State as a destination for responsible investment.
Governor Otti now faces a defining moment. A clear, unequivocal reaffirmation of the rule of law—grounded in the Deed of Trust and the FEDT Constitution is urgently required. Anything less risks not only the collapse of years of painstaking reconstruction at GCU but also lasting reputational damage to the state.

Government College Umuahia has survived wars and neglect. It should not be allowed to fall to administrative overreach and opportunism.

The time to act is now.

Empty Protocol Politics: How Ceremonial Titles Are Being Paraded as Electoral Power in Abia

Where has inconsequential protocol ranking ever won elections or truly delivered Mr. President in any serious political contest?

History has shown that real influence is not measured by titles, but by structure, reach, and acceptance among the people. When Femi Gbajabiamila was Speaker, not even Deputy Speaker, he never engaged in unnecessary political noise or positioned himself in opposition to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Tinubu was not even in government then, yet Gbajabiamila understood the value of loyalty, restraint, and political maturity over empty rivalry.

If not for what can best be described as "FAKE LIFE", how does a single representative of just one Local Government Area begin to boast of delivering President Tinubu in a complex state like Abia?

Outside Bende, what real political footprint is being referenced?

In contrast, figures like Dr. Chima Anyaso (Ofuji), who has contested for the office of Deputy Governor and has tested his acceptance across all 17 LGAs of the state, have remained politically measured and avoided unnecessary loud claims or exaggerated narratives.

Yet, surprisingly, a ceremonial House of Representatives member has continued to make loud declarations, even appearing to challenge the clear political direction already set by Mr. President, who has issued a strategic marching order for Senator Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, a two-term Governor and experienced Senator, to lead the Abia APC structure ahead of 2027.

The reality on ground remains clear. He knows he cannot defeat Governor Otti in a statewide contest, and he is fully aware of his limitations in delivering Mr. President politically. Yet the question remains: is this about service, or simply a pursuit of campaign funding and federal appointments under the guise of influence?

In contemporary politics, clarity always defeats noise and Victory is a product of established political Structures not ceremonial positioning or inflated claims.

Senator Orji Kalu Heads Powerful APC Screening Committee, Warns Against False Presidential Ties, as He Positions Party for National Victory

In line with the responsibility entrusted to me by the leadership of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), I had the honour of serving as Chairman of the High-Level Screening Committee (Team B) for aspirants seeking various positions ahead of the forthcoming National Convention.

Given the critical importance of this assignment, I worked closely with other distinguished members of the committee to ensure a thorough and credible process.

I was joined in this national assignment by the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, who chaired Team A, reflecting the depth of leadership and experience brought into the exercise.

Throughout the screening process held Today, we conducted a rigorous and comprehensive assessment of all aspirants, carefully evaluating their intellectual capacity, political experience, leadership competence, and alignment with the values and constitutional provisions of our party. Our objective was clear to ensure that only individuals who meet and can surpass the expectations of the offices they seek are entrusted with the responsibility of advancing the APC’s vision.

This process is not merely procedural; it is fundamental to strengthening the internal democratic structures of our party and positioning the APC to better respond to the developmental aspirations and needs of the Nigerian people.

I also used the opportunity to advise aspirants to remain discerning in their political engagements. Not everyone who claims proximity to the President should be taken at face value. Greater priority must be given to loyal party members and stakeholders who have consistently contributed to the growth and stability of the APC. True support for the President must translate into tangible commitment to the party and its ideals.

Furthermore, I commend my colleagues on the committee, including Senators Sarafa Ali, Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, as well as respected political figures such as former Governors of Nassrawa State H.E. A constitutional lawyer from Abia State, Onyekachi Godson Ubani, has launched a blistering attack on Governor Alex Otti, accusing his administration of fiscal profligacy, opacity, and gross neglect of workers’ welfare.

Ubani, an indigene of Nvosi in Isialangwa South Local Government Area, made the remarks on Thursday while speaking with journalists shortly after revalidating his membership with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State.

Delivering a damning assessment of the state’s finances, Ubani alleged that the government has prioritised luxury spending over the wellbeing of its citizens.

“Abia now receives about ₦60 billion monthly, largely driven by fiscal reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Yet what we see is not governance but glaring waste,” he said.

“It is unconscionable indeed, a moral and constitutional aberration that over ₦18 billion could be squandered on private jets and frivolous travel while workers are reduced to penury. This is not leadership; it is fiscal vandalism. A government that cannot prioritise its workers has lost both its ethos and legitimacy.”

Ubani further criticised what he described as the partial and deceptive implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage, alleging that junior staff earn as low as ₦29,000, road sweepers ₦23,000, and supervisors ₦47,000.

He also decried conditions in the education sector, stating that professors at Abia State University earn about ₦520,000, far below the ₦1.2 million reportedly paid in comparable institutions. According to him, school fees exceeding ₦100,000 have compounded the hardship faced by families.

“With a wage bill below ₦10 billion, one must ask—where is the remaining ₦50 billion going? The utilisation of these funds remains shrouded in opacity,” he said.

The lawyer further alleged that workers, pensioners, and lecturers are subjected to fractional payments, often misrepresented as final settlements.

He also accused the government of prioritising optics over substance, claiming that about ₦560 million is spent monthly on media engagements to project performance, while critical infrastructure suffers neglect. He cited the Umuikaa–Owerrinta road project as an example of slow and substandard execution.

He further pointed to alleged irregularities in the Nsulu Airport compensation process, claiming that over 1,000 fictitious names accounted for ₦1.4 billion out of a ₦40 billion allocation, even as pensioners remain unpaid.

2027: Senator Orji Kalu Inaugurates "OUR TEAM 2027", Rallies Former Governors for Tinubu’s Overwhelming Victory

On Inauguration Of Technical Committee Of OUR TEAM 2027, Senator Orji Uzor Assures President Tinubu Of An Overwhelming Victory In Abia State In 2027.

Three former Governors of Abia State, Senators Orji Uzor Kalu, 1999-2007, T. A. Orji, (Ochendo), 2007-2015, and Ambassador Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, 2015-2023, led by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, came together and formed what is known in Abia State as OUR TEAM 1999-2007. The nomenclature has, however, changed to OUR TEAM 2027.

Amongst the objectives underneath OUR TEAM 2027 are;
(1) Making sure President Tinubu will be reelected in 2027,
(2) Good Governance In Abia State,
(3) Paying Attention To The Collective Welfare of The People Of Abia State, and
(4) Restoring Constitutional Democracy To Abia State, Including Returning The State's Capital To Umuahia, etc.

In a meeting of OUR TEAM 2027 generously hosted by the third Executive Governor of Abia State, Senator T. A. Orji (Ochendo) at his Umuahia-Ibeku country-home on Friday (Orie) 9th January, 2026, OUR TEAM resolved, among many other things, to set up a Technical Committee to help develop a Blueprint that will guide the Organization.

True to its vision, a 28-Member Technical Committee was formed, and was, thereafter, inaugurated at Umuahia on Saturday (Orie) 14th March, 2026, by the Leader of OUR TEAM 2027, His Excellency, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

While inaugurating the Technical Committee, with effective consent and support of the two other former Governors, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu made it clear that every democratic step must be taken by the TEAM to make sure that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is returned overwhelmingly as President in 2027. He was emphatic that if Abia State joined the league of States that will work assiduously to return President Tinubu, the reward would also be overwhelming.

Senator Kalu explained in a very simple and self-exolanatory manner that it is the democratic responsibility of Members of OUR TEAM, REALITY ORGANIZATION, OUK MOVEMENT, and ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, APC, in Abia State to work very hard and guarantee the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR in 2027.

In an unmistakable term, Senator Kalu stated that it would amount to self delusion for Members of APC in Abia State to ever imagine that the leadership and followership of the Labour Party in Abia State will ever vote for President Tinubu. He asked, if the Labour Party in the State, in any way, should try to create the impression that it would vote for President Tinubu in 2027, why did she bluntly refuse to join the President's Political Party, APC, when many other Governors, including those of Enugu State, Edo State, Zamfara State, and Adamawa State have all joined APC?

Senator Kalu used that opportunity to assure Journalists in the State that no amount of gubernatorial intimidation should deter them from carrying out their constitutional responsibilities, as Members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm. He warned that no Member of the Media should be insulted just for playing the constitutional role of a watchdog in Abia State, and frowned at a situation where a Journalist in the State was labelled with the tag of stupidity for simply asking for accountability.

The former Governor, for the umpteenth time, expressed worry that the continued abandonment of Umuahia as the Constitutional Capital of Abia State by the Labour Party Government in Abia State has badly affected the economy of Umuahia, and, by extention, the State. He again called on the Governor of the State to relocate from Isialangwa-South to Umuahia.

Just before inaugurating the Technical Committee, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, again, congratulated the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State for recently having harmonious peaceful Congresses in the State. He made it clear that he is solidly in support of all those that emerged in the Congresses, starting from the Wards, Local Government Areas, Senatorial Districts, and the State. He pledged his support at all times. According to him, APC in Abia State is one and united. He advised that any member that will not give peace a chance in the Party should try another Party.

While inaugurating the Technical Committee, chaired by a Constitutional Lawyer, Professor A.C.B Agbazuere, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu urged the Committee to work diligently and fast in developing a Blueprint that will guide OUR TEAM 2027 as a Road Map in navigating political terrains ahead of 2027.

Goodwill messages were received from former Governors T. A. Orji, (Ochendo), Ambassador Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, and immediate-past Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji.

In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the Technical Committee, Professor A.C.B Agbazuere, thanked Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator T. A. Orji, and Ambassador Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for reposing confidence in Members of the Technical Committee, and assured that the Committee will perform the duties assigned to it with diligence, speed, and accuracy.

Among Members of the Technical Committee that spoke in appreciation of the vision of former Governors Orji Uzor Kalu, T. A. Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu were a former Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emeka Stanley, a former Member of Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Uche Ogboso, former Commissioners in the State; Dr Samuel Ahiwe, Prince Enyinna Ubani, Dr Mrs Elizabeth Esochaghi, Dr Mrs Ori Obasi, Eze Ogo Emeka Onuoha, some former Local Government Council Chairmen, including Chief Silvanus Uzoma Nwaji, Chief Iyk Anyatonwu, some other notable political leaders, such as Chief Emma Omokwe, Rev Mrs Jemaimah Ola Kalu, Deaconess Rhoda Emeka, Mr Peter Nwakanma, Mr Emeka Bonny De Laz, Barr Emeka I. Also present was a former Chief of Staff to former Governor T. A. Orji, a 2023 Governorship Candidate in Abia State, and 2027 Governorship Aspirant on the platform of APC, Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu.

Being a renowned Development Economist, Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu spoke expansively on inseparable relationship between Infrastructural Development, and Welfare of the Citizens, through different Youth and Women Empowerment programmes. He assured that if given the opportunity to govern Abia State, he would introduce a lot of human capital development initiatives for the overall developmentof Abia State.

There was, however, no time that the Technical Committee ever stated that the Committee was specifically meant for Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu. Rather the Committee plans to have interactive sessions with whoever that wants to govern Abia State in 2027, as to have a critical assessment of the Aspirant's capability before making up her mind on who to support.

The Public should, therefore, disregard any report that purports the Technical Committee as a platform dedicated to the aspiration of Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu. That report, from wherever it emanated, is untrue.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has congratulated Alhaji Aliko Dangote on the historic achievement of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in attaining and sustaining its full 650,000 barrels per day capacity on its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Motor Spirit (MS) Block.

Describing the development as a landmark in Nigeria’s industrial evolution, Senator Kalu in a statement released from his media office on Thursday evening said the milestone reflects visionary leadership, technical excellence, and unwavering commitment to national development.

“This is a defining moment for Nigeria and indeed Africa,” Senator Kalu stated. “To reach and sustain 650,000 barrels per day at full nameplate capacity is a global achievement that demonstrates engineering strength, operational discipline, and strategic foresight.”

The former Governor of Abia State and international business mogul recalled his recent visit to the refinery alongside South East senators, noting that what he saw during the tour convinced him that such a milestone was imminent.

“During my last visit with my distinguished colleagues from the South East, I was fully persuaded that this achievement was only a matter of time,” he said. “The scale of investment, the cutting-edge technology, and the professionalism of the team gave us confidence that Nigeria was on the verge of something historic. Zenith Bank Accused of Staff Breach in N188m Customer Funds Scandal

A Nigerian law firm has accused Zenith Bank Plc of failing to address an alleged breach by one of its former staff members, who is said to have abused her position to facilitate the diversion of more than N188 million belonging to a long-standing customer, AMSCO Nig. Ltd.

The allegation is contained in a formal letter dated January 21, 2025, written by Seasons Law Firm, Abuja, solicitors to AMSCO Nig. Ltd. According to the firm, Mrs. Anwulika Esekody, who served as AMSCO’s account officer at Zenith Bank’s Itire branch, exploited the banker-customer relationship to advise the placement of funds in a manner that benefited PFI Capital Limited, a company on whose board she is alleged to sit as a director.

The letter was addressed to the Managing Director of Zenith Bank and copied to John Ajibade of Legal Services and Michael Osilama Otu, the Company Secretary and General Counsel. It also made reference to earlier correspondence, including a letter dated July 16, 2025, and the bank’s response of August 8, 2025.

Seasons Law Firm expressed concern that more than six months after the initial complaint, the bank had allegedly failed to take any meaningful action on the matter.

The firm criticised Zenith Bank for not sending a delegation to engage with the client, described as a valued customer of several years, or taking steps to compel Mrs. Esekody or PFI Capital Limited to refund the funds.

It further alleged that the bank’s only responses had been threats to report the directors of AMSCO Nig. Ltd to law enforcement agencies and the transfer of Mrs. Esekody to another branch.

According to the letter, Mrs. Esekody had visited the client’s office in her official capacity as Zenith Bank’s account officer and was fully aware of the funds available in the company’s accounts. The firm argued that this banker-customer relationship enabled the discussions and advice that ultimately led to the funds being “fixed” for the benefit of PFI Capital Limited.

Adekunle Kosoko, Esq., writing on behalf of Seasons Law Firm, said the transaction was a direct result of the relationship between the bank and its customer.

“It is obvious that it was this banker-customer relationship between our client and your bank, in which your said staff represented you, that led to the discussion resulting in our client fixing her funds, howbeit to the benefit of PFI Capital Limited, on the advice of your staff,” he stated.

The law firm disclosed that it plans to institute legal action against PFI Capital Limited, Mrs. Esekody in her personal capacity, and Zenith Bank as her principal employer.

It also revealed that it had been instructed by its client to place the full facts and circumstances of the transaction in the public domain throughout the duration of the proposed suit and until the matter is resolved.

“We have our client’s further instructions to ensure that the facts and circumstances of this transaction be placed in the public space during the pendency of our impending suit and until the matter is resolved, in order to educate the general public and to forestall present and future customers of your bank from the fate that has befallen our client.”

Reverend Chuks Alonzie has strongly defended the legacy of Abia-North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and former Abia Governor as the State’s most impactful governor, cautioning the present administration against what he described as divisive narratives that diminish the contributions of previous governments.

Speaking to journalists on Friday while reacting to public comments following the recent Lawmaker's verdict on the administration of Governor Alex Otti, Rev. Alonzie described Kalu as “the action governor Abia State has ever had,” insisting that his achievements remain visible and verifiable across the state.

Recalling the state of Umuahia before Kalu assumed office in 1999, the cleric said the capital city was largely undeveloped. “During the first tenure of Governor Orji Uzor Kalu, 1999–2003, Umuahia was a glorified village,” he said, stressing his deep roots in the city to underscore the credibility of his account.

Rev. Alonzie noted that while earlier administrations such as that of the late Sam Mbakwe constructed major arterial roads including Okigwe Road, Niger Road, Enugu Road, Aba Road and Azikiwe Road and addressed erosion through canals and drainages, Kalu embarked on an extensive urban renewal programme that transformed Umuahia’s inner streets.

“He constructed and tarred roads across Over Rail and New Layout areas, including Ekwuruke, Obowo, Cameroon, Oboro, Oji River, Afara, Ogbulafor, Uwalaka, Orlu and Igbere streets,” he said. “Most of these streets were muddy, dusty and environmentally unfriendly before then. Governor Kalu relieved residents by ensuring everywhere was tarred, and many of those roads remain strong till date”.

According to him, Kalu’s interventions extended beyond Umuahia to Aba and several rural communities across the state, adding that the former governor’s leadership style earned him national recognition. “President Olusegun Obasanjo christened him the ‘Action Governor’ during his first official visit to Abia State,” Rev. Alonzie recalled.

He criticized what he termed an emerging trend of portraying Abia as if it had no developmental foundation prior to the current administration. “No government should try to make people believe they built the state alone and that others did nothing. That propaganda is not sustainable,” he warned, describing such claims as “insulting to the sensibilities” of Abians who witnessed earlier efforts.

Drawing comparisons with Akwa Ibom State, Rev. Alonzie said successive governments there have built on one another’s achievements without discrediting predecessors. “This approach we are seeing today is divisive and unhealthy for corporate leadership,” he added.

While acknowledging that the present government is contributing its quota, he urged restraint and unity in political discourse. “Government is a continuum. Abia will remain while governments come and go. Let’s be civil in defending our political interests and remember that we are Ndi Abia first,” he said.

No Opposition on Ground: Chukwu Mocks LP, Declares Kalu Unbeatable Ahead of 2027

Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, member representing the South East on the North West Development Commission (NWDC) and former Minority Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly, has brushed aside threats by the opposition Labour Party (LP) to cut short the senatorial tenure of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, describing them as empty political rhetoric.

Chukwu made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking on The Agenda, a political affairs programme aired on Don 103.7 FM, Umuahia, and closely monitored by MUK TV. He stated categorically that there is currently no political figure with the capacity, influence, or reach to defeat the incumbent senator representing Abia North.

His comments followed a renewed exchange between the media teams of Senator Kalu and Governor Alex Otti. In a statement that generated widespread reactions, the governor’s media aide, Ferdinand Ekeoma, had claimed that the Labour Party had four strong aspirants ready to challenge and unseat the former Abia governor in the next senatorial election.

Reacting to the claim, Chukwu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissed the threat as unrealistic, insisting that even a coalition of all the LP aspirants would fall short against Senator Kalu.

“I have not seen any vibrant opposition in Abia North that can dislodge Orji Uzor Kalu from the Senate,” he said. “Every aspirant the Labour Party has lined up against him, even if they are put together, cannot defeat him”.

The former lawmaker also issued a stern warning to politicians considering a challenge against Senator Kalu, specifically referencing the senatorial ambition of Rt. Hon. Ude Okochukwu, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State.

“You don’t go to a lion’s fight with a sheep,” Chukwu said proverbially. “He should shelve the idea because he will not defeat Orji Uzor Kalu”.

Although he admitted to having political differences with the senator, Chukwu said his position was based on Kalu’s extensive political network and performance in the Senate.

He noted that effective representation in the National Assembly requires lawmakers with strong national connections to negotiate and attract federal presence and projects to their constituencies.

On the reported senatorial ambition of Chief David Ogba Onuoha, popularly known as Bourdex, Chukwu also dismissed his suitability for the seat, arguing that Abia North does not need what he described as a “boxer” in the Senate.

The comment was a reference to a past incident in which the former Ohafia local government chairman was alleged to have assaulted a council staff member.

Chukwu maintained that Senator Kalu remains firmly in control of the Abia North political landscape and is unlikely to be dislodged by the opposition anytime soon.

The Danger of Hubris: Why Alex Otti Must Pull Back from Attacking Orji Kalu, Tinubu -- Prof. Eni

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.”

That quote fits perfectly into what is happening in Abia State today. Governor Alex Otti needs to pause and reflect. He should study the political journeys of governors like Abubakar Audu and Kayode Fayemi and learn how power slipped away from them. This is not abuse. It is a simple political lesson. Sadly, instead of humility, his aides have chosen insults and name-calling. Governance is not about shouting at critics; it is about listening to the people.

Ferdinand Ekeoma and Njoku Ukoha should also be told the truth plainly: they are not trained media professionals. Their recent statements show this clearly. No serious media aide speaks with so much anger, insults, and lack of balance. They behave like political attack dogs, not spokespersons of a sitting governor. Their words show panic, not confidence. A government that is doing well does not fight everyone.

If Governor Otti truly believes he is all-powerful, he should remember how he moved round Abia before the 2023 elections, pleading with stakeholders for support. Power did not come by magic. It was negotiated and supported by many interests. And let it be said clearly: if Otti loses the 2027 governorship election, heaven will not fall. He will not be the first governor to lose, and Abia will still survive.

What we now see in Abia is politics of bitterness and religion. Under this administration, people openly say a deputy governor was chosen mainly because he is a Catholic. This is dangerous and backward. Abia belongs to everyone. Leadership should unite the state, not divide it along religious lines.

There is also a serious problem of transparency. Abians do not know the real cost of projects. They do not know how contracts are advertised, bidded for, or awarded. Everything looks like secret dealings. Governance should be open, not run like a private club.

Governor Otti should immediately desist from attacking Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These leaders have shown maturity and restraint. The federal attention Abia enjoys today did not come by chance. It came through goodwill and long-standing relationships. That goodwill should not be abused or taken for granted.

More disturbing is the growing intolerance in Abia. Opposition voices are being suppressed. Critics are treated as enemies. Supporters of President Tinubu are insulted simply for their political beliefs. That is not democracy. A confident leader allows free speech and opposing views.

Governor Alex Otti must understand this simple truth: power is temporary. Respect lasts longer. Attacking federal leaders and their supporters will not help Abia. History is watching, and so are the people.

“If he was not relevant, why was his house in Igbere visited on the night before the election?” the statement queried.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Office of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, signed by George Maduka, the Senator described the Governor’s comments as politically desperate and lacking focus on governance, accusing the Abia State Government of resorting to what it termed gutter politics.

According to the statement, Senator Kalu’s affirmation of support for the APC, including backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election and advocating for a strong APC governorship candidate in Abia State, was a legitimate exercise of democratic rights and party loyalty.

Today, that call is finding a practical response in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, through the actions of Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. What is unfolding in Igbere represents a deliberate and strategic shift toward industrialization, anchored on the belief that true development must begin from home. By simultaneously establishing four industries alongside a University of Science and Technology, Senator Kalu is laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth, skills development, and job creation not only for Abia North but for the entire state.

This vision is not an isolated effort; it is a continuation of a long-standing commitment to grassroots development. As former Governor of Abia State, Senator Kalu prioritized road infrastructure, particularly in Igbere and across Abia North.
