Jobs/VacanciesRe: Job Vacancies In An International School In Ikeja Lagos by Mike4S: 2:38am On Jun 28, 2018
A school that claims to be an international school and yet cannot boldly advertise her name is simply not international as claimed.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Strictly For Those Interested In Teaching Jobs by Mike4S: 10:44am On Jun 23, 2018
Teaching is good but the Nigerian factor has spoilt it. The use of teachers to conduct external exams is what I don't like. It is an avenue to aid and abet exam malpractice. Most of the so-called international schools are banking on it to justify the 'killer' school fees they are charging parents
pcjuvy:
Teaching in a secondary school as a youth corper (NYSC) could after all be a stepping stone to becoming a professional teacher!

Sometimes last year I wrote on how teaching job is fast becoming lucrative in Nigeria here on Nairaland platform though some folks disagreed with me not believing the reality of the positive changes in the teaching profession but am glad that numerous Nigerian graduate saw the write-up as an eye opener about this noble profession. However after that write up I realize that many still ask the question 'HOW CAN ONE GO ABOUT IT?' despite the various teaching jobs openings everyday, this information will however, support their interest and quest for a better teaching job placement.

Meanwhile,to comprehend this write-up you may first need to read https://www.nairaland.com/1517304/teaching-job-now-hot-cake .

Like I will always emphasize, that this write up is not to advertise any establishment or an avenue to showcase my writing skill but to give a helping hand to those that possess the burning desire to teach and impact knowledge in a reputable school especially in an international school in Nigeria that pays well. I did not claim to know everything here but with my little knowledge in the field I believe someone life will be touched for good.
Now let me start by letting you know that I studied Geophysics and not pure education initially but I realized my potentials during my youth service year and I decided to develop myself in the teaching and mentoring profession moving on to acquire educational and professional qualifications including a PGDip Ed and M.Ed and other National and international recognized teaching certification and really today I am glad and happy for my decision even do it was almost late before the decision was made.

CLARIFICATION BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS AND OTHER SCHOOLS.

Before I proceed however, I will like to make it clear that it is not all the school using the word ‘International’ as part of their nomenclature are indeed international in the real sense of it many of them are not (AISEN) Association of International School Educators of Nigeria, although they are very good schools good enough to start your teaching career any time, we have hundreds of them all over Nigeria . But I will want to talk about the AISEN schools.

The AISEN schools runs Nigeria, British and America curricula, some of these schools run just British or America curriculum alone and they are all over Nigeria, they operate different salary structures for their staff and provide training for them both locally and international wise exposing them to the dynamic world of 21st century education. The method of teaching is computer based with the use of ICT and modern instructional facilities, to the best of my knowledge the salary ranges between N100,000 - N350,000 sometimes excluding accommodations and other benefits which may vary from one school to the other for subject teachers and even more for the position of Academics Coordinators, various departmental heads, Academic Directors ,Pastoral directors/Head, Vice principal , Principal etc, I must also quick to mention here that teaching job is not the only opening in these schools there are positions like Laboratory technologist/technicians, Pastoral jobs for House or Hostel parents ,sport coaches, Students counselors, Nurses/Matrons etc. apart from the medical jobs mentioned, all others must first and foremost be a qualified and certified teacher too.

Some of these schools include:

Nigerian – Turkish International College
Capital Science Academy (CSA)
Grange School lagos
Corona Secondary School – Agbara
St. Gregory”s College
Olashore International School (OIS)
Lumen Christi International High School – Uromi,
Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls
Loyola Jesuit College
Day waterman college ASU Ogun State.
Dowen College Lagos.
Atlantic Hall Epe Lagos
British International School.(BIS)
Redeemers International school Lagos.
Bloombred International secondary school Portharcourt.
Temple school Lagos.
Meadow Hall School.
Pampers School
Greensprings school
Lekki British International High School, Lekki Phase One

………….And many more... http://titithedynamite.

WHAT YOU MAY NEED TO QUALIFY TO TEACH IN THESE SCHOOLS?

It is important to note that each of these schools has their own recruitment policies which is personal and specific to them, but I will base the general qualities you need on the following:

1. BE QUALIFIED AS A PROFESSIONAL: It is a known fact that we live in a dynamic world where things changes every day and teaching profession is not excluded, to work in these schools require some educational qualifications and professionalism and if your first degree is not in education then you need to upgrade by acquiring one, for example get your PGDip.Ed in addition to your Bsc /HND /B.Tech /B.Agric, BA etc. except you are a graduate of NCE, Adv.Dip.Ed , BSc (Ed) or B.Ed.

The additional certification can be obtain in our various Nigeria universities, colleges of Education or better still the National Teachers Institute (NTI) and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) the last two mentioned seems to be faster, cheaper and well recognized. Through the NTI you may be registered automatically as certified/registered teacher with the Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

Other international certification like the International Baccalaureate (IB), International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), Cambridge International Examination (CIE) SAT, TOEFL etc. Will be an added advantage for your quest; although, many schools provides training for their staff in order for them to acquire these certifications so never border yourself much on this except if you can afford it.

2. BE READY TO RELOCATE: You must be ready to relocate any time to any part of the country when the opportunities avails itself, as many of these schools are scattered all over Nigeria though we can find many of them around Lagos, Abuja, Abeokuta, Portharcourt, Ibadan, Offa, Enugu, Akure etc.

3. BE A CERTIFIED/REGISTERED TEACHER: Endeavour to be registered with a teaching professional body in Nigeria e.g TRCN and other relevant bodies.

4. PACKAGE YOUR CV WELL: So many of us miss it here because your CV is the first to represent you and when it is wrongly done even if you are academically qualified the job still remain far from you. These schools showcases good and well trained Human Resources personnel to scrutinized CV. Let it always be known to them through your CV that you are passionate to help the children to develop their potentials and the various positive changes you will bring to the school when you are employed.

5. BE CONFIDENT: Be sure of your self don’t pretend you know everything but be confident that you will impact positive changes to the life of the young ones, when you are interviewed never allow your take home or salary be the main focus but don’t appear too cheap. Before going for any interview, do some personal or internet findings about the school to get some basics information.

6. GATHER EXPERIENCE: Little, little experiences will take you there, not very many graduate get the job without any teaching experiences, some schools may recruit fresh graduate for training and empowering them for the teaching job but you don’t need to wait for that so gather the experience even starting with your NYSC year if you are fortunate to serve in a school, even then get some experience.

7. BE READY TO START SMALL: Be ready to start small, even in that Mushrooms or small schools you felt is nothing could actually be the stepping stone to a better placement what you need is to gather the experience from teaching and use the period to develop yourself academically as these will go a long way to prepare you for any interview with the International schools it doesn't really matter how much you are paid at the moment.

8. BE COMPUTER LITERATE AND INTERNET FRIENDLY : We are in the computer age and things are fast done through the internet nowadays because 95% of the international schools do their businesses through the internet, this include job opening adverts, application processing and even aptitude test. Subscribe to educational job alert as this will keep you abreast of the numerous job openings. I must let you know that there are numerous job opening for teachers every month more especially in July-August every year.

Finally, I will like to end here by saying that Joblessness could lead to frustration...Until you start to teach you wouldn't know you are a good teacher, make a move now and as you start small you will soon become large..! God bless you.

TravelRe: Before You Travel To Canada: The Dangers Therein by Mike4S:
The poster should know that economic hardship in Nigeria is the most salient factor most Nigerians consider before making that move. In general, handsome salaries usually make people to sit tight because we believe here that "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
While I've never met with the poster, my conjecture about her is that she has left Nigeria long ago. Nigeria today is not encouraging for job-seekers. Only those that are benefitting from the status quo are averring that all is well.
Those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds will always leave Nigeria to look for opportunities because there is no hope for them. As for me, I'm completely unmoved by every blandishment the poster is trying to use in her desperation to stop me from immigrating to Canada if I see the opportunity.
There is a growing consensus that the situation is dire-and looking bleaker everyday. When it comes to making decision that affects other people, you had better base those decisions on consensus reality. The only way to escape the economic hardship in Nigeria is to leave Nigeria at all cost.
Come back to Nigeria you will see that our government's ruthless policies have caused the population to try any available wild escapade. It is better to receive execrable treatment outside than to receive it from your own people. If only you have searched for jobs and did not get it just because you don't have anybody at the top to help you, you will understand what I mean.
If only you have paid for electricity bill that you did not consume you will know that it is better to stay in a place where you will be paying as you consume. If only you have lived outside your state and you got a treatment that placed you as a second citizen you will understand what I mean.
As I'm typing this, my continue stay in Nigeria is contingent upon my ability to raise what will take me out to any first world country. Even though it is to enter into servitude and work as an unpaid labour for sometimes many Nigerians are ready to do it. Here in Nigeria, we are ready to work but we are not offered work.
EducationRe: The Agony Of Private School Teachers by Mike4S: 4:28pm On May 06, 2018
I feel the pain of teachers that are trapped in such schools. The notoriety of some private secondary schools is alarming! If they don't want those that majored in education to rise against them, then they should be amenable to listening to their concern. If you want teachers to accomplish the academic goals, you must have the intrinsic motivation to push them forward.

You should not denigrate other people unless you want individuals to attack your reputation in retaliation (which is already happening now). Most private secondary schools are surviving today because of the exam malpractice they are into. If teachers decide to cooperate to shun such those schools will fall. As we all know that most parents are patronising them because of good result.

I know of a school in Maryland, Lagos that a teacher was ill treated by the proprietor and he retaliated by sending evidence of cheating during one of the exams to WAEC. The evidence suggested that teachers in connivance with the invigilators ran a vast exam malpractice. WAEC checked and found everything to be true. This was how the particular paper was cancelled.

You cannot start a business and be hoping to engage the service of quacks just because the government we have is a laissez faire type. There is no justification for that.
EducationExam Malpractice: Who Is To Blame? by Mike4S(op): 11:44am On May 05, 2018
Important questions loom in my mind over this topic. Having taught in a private school, I was able to see a bit of the corruption that has permeated almost every fabric of our society.
I cannot put this piece straight without sharing some experiences in some of the schools I have taught. It was in one of the terms and a parent had four children in the school. Our proprietor always told us to not let any of the pupil fail and we did not have choice but to give a good remark at the end of the term. One day a teacher joined us newly at the end of the term.
When it was time to fill the report card, his apodictic loyalty was proved true when he filled the pupil's card with apodictic accuracy. The proprietor who was very busy did not have time to crosscheck the cards.
Guess what! five minute after issuing the card, the parent that had four children stormed the school. He was visibly angry that no one would doubt that he was there to lay complaint. He headed straight to the proprietor's office and handed the card he was holding over to him.
The next five minutes the teacher was called and he was directed by the proprietor to go and make changes in the card. It was after that change that the parent left the school.
In another development, some invigilators that police the exam are not immune from bribery. I also encountered many of them that aid and abet exam malpractice just for the school to settle them.
Teachers also are not left out. In most cases, they are under pressure to make sure that no one under their tutelage fails. Some of them have been forced to cooperate with the cheating invigilators to make sure that the pupils pass.
So having said all these, who do you think is to blame for exam malpractice?

To all guys out there, St. Saviour's school, Ikoyi does not accept CV from male applicants. I was there and was told that they only employ female teachers.
Please don't waste your hard-earned money going there to apply. My next post will be on schools that don't accept CVs on the school premises i.e you must go to their HR department to submit.

All these is to save ones time and energy because it is not easy for a job seeker to go out looking for a job.
Chrisland at Opebi allen accepts CV in their human resources section at Adeniyi Jones.
Corona schools accept CV at a street in Ikoyi. (Raymond Njoku street)
Greenspring schools accept CV at their headquarter in Lekki.

It is always disappointing to pay transport fares only to be disappointed. If you know any other schools that have the HR section separate add it here to save somebody's transport fares and energy.

Foreign AffairsUS Senator Gives Birth In Office. by Mike4S(op): 7:46pm On Apr 09, 2018
US Senator Tammy Duckworth, 50, has given birth to a daughter, becoming the first sitting female US senator to give birth while in office.

The Illinois Democrat said on Twitter that Maile Pearl Bowlsbey was named after her husband's great aunt, who served as a nurse during World War Two.

In a series of tweets, she also thanked her family and medical team.

Mrs Duckworth is a former helicopter pilot who had both her legs amputated after crashing in Iraq in 2004.

The 'miracle' that helped a US mother make history
The Iraq War veteran had previously made history when she became the first woman with disabilities elected to the US senate.
Baby Maile - the couple's second daughter - was born in a suburban Washington DC hospital on Monday.

"Parenthood isn't just a women's issue, it's an economic issue and one that affects all parents - men and women alike," she said in a statement.

"As tough as juggling the demands of motherhood and being a Senator can be, I'm hardly alone or unique as a working parent, and my children only make me more committed to doing my job and standing up for hardworking families everywhere," she continued.

Last month senators from both parties, as well as their staff, hosted a baby shower for Mrs Duckworth at the US Capitol, according to the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, which was first to report the birth.
In January, Mrs Duckworth told the newspaper that getting pregnant with her second child was "a struggle".

Mrs Duckworth's first child, Abigail, was born in 2014 when she was serving in the US House of Representatives.

Mrs Duckworth, whose mother was from Thailand, was also among the first Asian-American women ever elected to Congress.

In 2018, Mrs Duckworth has authored several bills to help new mothers, including a bill to make airports offer a place for women to breastfeed or pump milk.

She has also called for the military to enact a policy to give personal time for new mothers to bond with newborn and adopted babies, and to make sure that student parents have access to on-campus child daycare centres.
