Investment in equity is basically taking risks. Not everything would be smooth from start to finish, especially in a highly regulated sector like banking. Several banks have experienced one issue or the other at different times which affected payment of dividend e.g. FBN, Wema, etc. No director wants the value of his/her multi-billion wealth in investments to go down or be eroded. |

Ladasha: Hello investors,
Which 2 stocks would you buy today if you're targeting capital appreciation and ready to hold the investment for 5 years? Please your input would be greatly appreciated. If you are looking at 5 solid years: Look for stocks that have good potential, but currently undervalued and not doing too well. One sure bet: Access Bank. The other is: Insurance stocks: Another one is: Oando (but very controversial, it has good potential if you have the MIND to wait and shoulder all the risks) Another one: Japaul |

Itzlinda: Me wey de wait for it sub 90 naira. Zenithbank seems to tag it is 50 week moving average every year and it is yet to happened this year. The 50 week moving average is at 86 naira and it is going up. I will be comfortable buying between now and november once it touches the 50 week which will likely be between 85-95 naira. It might go lower but I am not looking to time the bottom. The downward risk is minimal from that price You people are the ones that want to make some folks cry on this forum! They say you people should say your ''evil and bad'' prayers and wishes quietly to yourselves in one corner. They don't want to read or hear them here because they bought those stocks at very high prices but you want the price to crash D |

Agbalowomeri: You sha wan follow ACCESS enter grave All die be die! The nature and regulation of the banking industry would always create some of these opportunities, when a bank is required by CBN to do some house cleaning before paying dividends, bonus etc. which ultimately affects the price. Na so FBN was selling at N3-N4 for a very long time. Wema was 0.50k for almost a year. Even GTB/ZB fell to N15-N17 a few years back. UBA also stagnated for some time The FUGAZ are very strategic to the economy and cannot fail, at least for now. |

NYSC › Re: What Do You Think About The New NYSC Reforms? by mikeapollo: 1:12pm On Jul 01 |
TobiNaija: When I first heard about the proposed NYSC reforms, my immediate reaction was:
“These could actually be good… if they’re implemented properly.”
Most people seem to be focused on the camp being extended from 3 weeks to 6 weeks, but that’s honestly the least interesting part to me.
If those extra weeks are spent on practical skills, entrepreneurship, certifications, and things that genuinely improve your chances of getting a job after service, I’d say it’s worth it.
What I’m more interested in is the idea of matching corps members to PPAs based on their qualifications and improving deployment with security in mind. Those changes could have a much bigger impact than simply making camp longer.
That said, we’ve all seen good policies announced before that didn’t quite play out as expected. Just telling lies for cruise. The higher institutions producing the corps members should be the main focus of all the things listed in the so-called reforms. |

wearsandtrends1: This is my preference I want to know if it's a fair price I would advise you to be a bit patient and look for a very clean, well maintained Nigerian used version. You can then do some few repairs and put it in top shape. That would save you you about 40%-50% of the cost of the tokunboh. To me, foreign used cars are just overpriced because of the exchange rate |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by mikeapollo: 9:00am On Jul 01 |
isaacosas01: People keep asking “how can faster settlement be bad?” Let me explain.
When a foreign fund wants to buy NGX stocks, they don’t have naira sitting somewhere. They wire dollars, their custodian converts to naira through CBN FX window, THEN they buy shares.
Under T+2, they had 2 days to sort that FX conversion. Manageable.
Under T+1, they have to fund the trade same day. Our FX market cannot deliver large naira amounts same-day consistently. So what happens? They have to convert dollars to naira BEFORE any trade is even placed and just leave it sitting there on standby.
That is called prefunding. And that is the problem.
Why would any serious fund hold naira? Every day you sit in naira waiting to deploy, you are bleeding in dollar terms. Before you buy a single share, you are already losing.
FTSE Russell issued a notice yesterday because of this putting Nigeria’s Frontier Market reclassification on HOLD. We were supposed to get that status in September 2026, which would have triggered automatic buying from global index funds. That money is now on hold.
We copied T+1 from USA and India without copying the part that makes it work for them — a deep FX market where you can source local currency instantly.
We put the cart before the horse. We need to fix the naira liquidity problem first. T+2 and T+1 are the standard trading cycles in most global exchanges. We cannot just be doing things for the foreign stakeholder or a particular exchange. FTSE Russell can HOLD whatever they want. NGX and the Nigerian investor need the improvements that come with T+1. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by mikeapollo: 8:54am On Jul 01 |
isaacosas01: NO! Capital NO! A pre-funded market is very BAD. A requirement to prefund equity trades is deemed a negative for the Settlement Cycle (DvP) criterion.
For those who don’t know DvP means Delivery versus Payment — the global standard where cash and shares move simultaneously at settlement. No advance funding needed. Nigeria just broke that standard for foreign investors.
If we don’t solve this we would NEVER get on FTSE Russell FTSE Russell can go to blazes! The NGX rules are not meant for only FTSE Russell. Now, ask yourself this fundamental question: Between T+2 and T+1, which one is better for market liquidity, and investor confidence? T+2 and T+1 are the preferred trading cycles in most global exchanges, so what is different with NGX opting from T+2 to T+1? |

isaacosas01: This isn’t good. Didn’t the ngx consider this before implementing T+1 A pre-funded market is much better as it helps reduce liquidity risk in the market, which helps to boost market confidence. The FTSE Russell review should lead to an improvement in the classification of NGX, unless they are up to something else. |

If you follow game theory, you will know all participants in the game, and one participant I see people here mostly ignore is the participation of smart money.
The game begins when smart money comes in and the game gets over after they leave so I don't see into the future. I only have a habit of using maths to track the activities of smart money. Smart money tracker! Who no know go know, who know too much go kpeme! |

Beeron: I don't need to know the actual price but you shouldn't be bothered about that either.
What you should be bothered about after solid fundamentals is the presence of smart money because, think about it.
If you say MTN and the likes are trading at a discount now because of low price in a bear market and you know other retailers are actively buying the dip, yet it's still dipping.
You should ask yourself why? Just refer my earlier post: I said those who could spare some funds to invest for the long term may consider Access Bank Without prejudice to anyone or any other stocks, Access bank fundamentals are solid and good for long term appreciation, from the current price. Whether the price is done falling or not is another issue entirely! |

malali: Trump, who isn’t even contesting for re-election, personally came out on Truth Social to direct fuel retailers to slash pump prices immediately, warning them against gouging. He didn’t hide behind his Energy Secretary.
Yet here in Nigeria, the same man who doubles as Minister of Petroleum, and is busy eyeing re-election, has not uttered a single word as marketers exploit Nigerians despite crashing crude prices.
This is the same president whose only real energy is reserved for collecting foreign loans and spending them.
Insecurity killing people daily? Silence.
Inflation choking families? Silence.
No power, no jobs? Silence.
But petrol prices? Not a single official statement from his office. This lackadaisical, tone-deaf leadership is unacceptable. Tinubu should address Nigerians directly on this matter, not through proxies. This has been the main reason why Trump has been soft on Iran, avoiding a full escalation of the war because of possible effect on oil pricce. Otherwise, Iran would not last one month under USA full military fire! |
