if a ship borne radar can detect a very small submarine periscope in high seas then detecting a un-submerged submarine will be a child's play for the ship borne radar isnt it?

Besides prior surfacing the submarine will conduct surveillance or check any radar activity with it's ESM or the radar warning receiver system mounted on different antennas.

1. Charging batteries will be done outside the patrol or operational area.

2. So the sub will go into operational to hunt for targets or do whatever it is there to do. Then leave the area to recharge it's batteries.

A Nuclear Submarine can stay submerged for months, yours cant! They are Conventional submarines which lack Air Independent Propulsion and must snort for a minimum of 2hrs within a 24hr period. During that process one of its pipes snorts to recharge it's batteries and the other pipe emits gas which releases heat. That is a huge disadvantage as you are prey for a searching Armada. This is as simple as can be understood.

The Selous scouts were utilised for special operations with direct action making up a small percentage for their ops.

The type of ops the 72nd is used for is similar to the Rhodesian light infantry.

But that doesn't change their designation.

in the theatre (both North central-North East) we've heard of the AH SG(Strike group)- I am led to bliv these is where the Rangers a'la 72MSF fall under
We've also heard of 133SF bn which had an IED experience of recently.
However we have the AFSF which is the Tri-service SF and they take their orders and missions from ONSA

if a aircraft is painted by radar guided air to air missiles either on-board or off-board ,we have RWR (radar warning reciever) to warn the pilot of the approaching missile.

what if a IR /IIR based air to air missile is fired at a aircraft , how is the pilot alerted to the incoming threat ?

Quiet/passive missiles.

Detection of the ultra violet/UV radiation of the incoming missile is one of the methods though. - What effect does the reduction of smoke in these missiles have?

Nigerian SBS were Admiral Adekeye's creation 2006, the boys started commando war experience since Niger Delta militancy against over 30,000 mangrove swamp guerrillas and 11 years of war they are still called new by those who dislike them. Many European commandos recruited 10 years ago have not seen one day of war, who are Russian, Israel, Spanish, Swedish commandos fighting today? All NN SBS have seen war, wounded, died, or survived, but they are still labelled as new and will forever be called new even after 22 years experience, but white nations freshman commandos who have not fought one commando war in 10 years are better according to you. Till Africans learn to avoid jealousy that blinds human minds dead.

Let me give u some intelligence on the present state of SA' military: SANDF present capabilities exists on paper. South Africa's military lacks the capacity to mount credible lethal offensive for a decisive victory in combat. This is an Army it's soldiers coming under live fire in Sudan didn't want to be anywhere near it. I can give u more but I'll leave it here. U can challenge it as usual with no intellectual or empirical proof as usual because of cause u want to be heard.

That doesn't reflect on the quality of training or capabilities but funding. The defence force has soldiers but faces problems in operationalising. Putting "warm bodies" on the ground and supporting them.

Regarding Sudan there was no point of staying there if the host keeps refusing for the troops on the ground to be better equipped.


Remember Nigeria pulled out of Sudan.

Current threats as well as past experiences dictate and future threat assessments dictate strategic planning in Nigeria. That doesn't seem to be the case in South Africa.

Yes, majority of Nigerian have been against non-state actors, however you have not added two significant wars. The war against Tchad and Cameroun. Two nations we roundly defeated, Infact in the case of Tchad, we pushed them close to N'Djamena.

The non-state actors we have faced have been well armed, and have deployed non-conventional tactics.

I am saying considering the threats most African countries south of the Sahara face, given the assessment of these threats and for the foreseeable future, not only do we have the best doctrine institutions, we are also the best equipped to deal with these threats.

Non...sense tell me one Nigerian institution comparable to CSIR.

You never really defeated Chad or Cameroon. Remember the military holds the line until politicians decide to head to the table.

We've made some mistakes due to corruption and bad leadership. Nigeria has a country should have never requested for eeben Barlow's assistance.
In terms of training, we had it but the guys morale was do down. They played politics with terrorism and our troops were under armed.

I want you to know if it was an invasion by a foreign military, such thing won't happen. BHT was politically motivated and the military and defence chiefs then were full of corruption.

The Nigerian military now is undergoing alot of reforms and we've seen great developments. However, the fact that BHT made joke of our military then still remains in the news. The Nigerian military however still hold it's position as one of the best in Africa.


The government needs to review it's procurement policies and fasten up things. Those Yahbon flash UAV, the JF17. We need more things from the Navy, I'm interested in that SSV as that will challenge NN for AA, ashw etc.


Some of these arguments here are unnecessary.

You can't deny the successes or contribution of those PMCs. From Angola bringing them in is like having or adding a paratroopers brigade worth of men in your armed forces.

There's no such thing as the best in the military world. The US was defeated by Vietnam. Russia was defeated in Chechnya.

The Nigerian military has been in constant engagement all across Africa for the past 25 years.

African threats are currently and have almost always been low intensity warfare.

The Nigerian military has spear-hearded almost all significant engagements in Africa.

In that period we have built the most extensive infrastructure, manpower, training and equipment to deal with these threats.

With the advent of terrorism, we have adapted and continue to expand our already extensive capability.

Pick one area, Army, Navy or Air Force, i'll detail what we have built and how no one compares?

Chances of Malaria infecting a South African are lower than a Nigeria.

Africa is not a country.

Current threats shouldn't dictate strategic planning. After World war 2 South Africa politicians ignored warnings of scientists and military leaders as they thought peace will reign forever and essential frontline equipment can source from Britian.

Majority of Nigeria's engagements have been against not so well led and equipped none state actors.

Are you saying Nigeria has better doctrine development institutions than all countries in SSA? Covering sea, land, air and space. I don't think so.
