FamilyRe: My Nigerian Marriage Certificate by mikedeoye(m): 11:35am On Oct 04, 2009
@Nicola c,

With your latest clarification, then i want to assume too that the marriage has been done legally. But you can confirm if the certificate u were given after the ceremony at the registry office has the following highlights:
- Federal Republic of Nigeria
- The Marriage Act (with the Nigerian logo)-Section 24
- Form E SCHEDULE
-Certificate no
-Marriage Celebrated in the ,
-Certificate of Marriage
-The couples details (names, date of marriage, ages, Condition, Rank or Profession, Residence address, and parents names)
-Married at,
-If the two of you signed on the certificate under the title "This marriage was celebrated between us, "
-The registrar's Signed under the title "Minister (or Registrar as the case may be), "
-If your witnesses signed on the Certificate under the title "in the presence of us, "

If the certificate you have has all those mentioned above then i think you have the right certificate.
FamilyRe: My Nigerian Marriage Certificate by mikedeoye(m): 9:15pm On Oct 02, 2009
@ Nicole c

I'm afraid you are not yet married by the nigerian law. What you hold presently is not a marriage certificate but rather an intending marriage permit (notification) normally granted by the marriage registry to all intending couples after a 21 day formal notice at the registry and an oath taking. The paper only indicates that you (i mean you and your spouse) have both indicated your intentions to marry each other. As indicated on the notification paper, the actual marriage ought to have been solemized latest by the indicated date either in the same registry (what is called Court Marriage) or a Marriage registry licensed church (note: not all churches are licenced, will explain this later). A Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) Marriage registry Certificate is issued to you on your wedding (soleminization) day.

By Marriage registry licensed Church, i mean a church that has applied to the Marriage Registry for the FRN marriage Certificate booklets and have been granted the authority to issue same on behalf of the marriage registry for marriages that take place at it Altar. Normally, before a marriage can be done in such a church they will normally ask you to go obtain the permit (i.e what u have now cos that has to be submitted in the church ) from a marriage registry. Such institution accounts for every certificate that they issue to couples and such has to be backed up by the marriage permit obtained by the couple from the registry. The FRN Marriage Registry Certificate comes in triplicates. Normally, on your wedding day, you are given a copy, the church keeps one and the thrid copy has to be returned to the marriage registry where you obtained the permit for the purpose of closing out and to show that the marriage has been consummated. Most big time churches like the Catholic, Anglican, Methodist etc and the Head Quarter church of most pentecostal churches have the FRN Marriage Registry Certificate. Pls note that it is this FRN Marriage Certificate that is recongnised by such institutions as the Embassies etc, Also note that most churches have their personalised Certificates which are not FRN marriage Registry Certificate.

Similarly, note that FRN Marriage Registry Certifacte is the same certificate you would get if your marriage had be consummated in the Registry. This is what people call Court Marriage in Nigeria. If your intention is to have the whole marriage process completed in the registry (court) and not the church, all u need to do is to tell the Registrar and u will be asked to pick a wedding day (normally mutually agreed with the registry) after the permit has benn granted which has to be before the latest indicated date on the permit. By this, you dont need to take the permit to anyway ( i mean church) since the final soleminization will be in the in the registry.

Cos most churches or their branches do not have the FRN Marriage Registry cerficate that is why some couples do a court (registry) wedding 2 or 3 days before the actual church wedding. By this, such couple can have the FRN Marriage Certificate issued by the registry and at the same time have their marriage blessed in the church on a later day and also get the church's personalised marriage certificate. But this does not mean u must do both the court wedding and church wedding. U do not need to go take your marriage vows in the registry or court if your church has the Marriage Registry's permission to issue FRN Marriage certificates, all u need is the 21 days notice at the marriage registry to be granted the permit to be taken to ur church. In all cases, church or registry weddings u need at least 2 witnesses who will be signitaries on the wedding certificate. These can be anybody but most people use their parents.

Hope this clarifies your question.

CareerRe: Logistics Or Supply Chain Management by mikedeoye(m): 6:15pm On Mar 09, 2009
Hi all,

It's been a while i visited this thread (which is 3 yrs old now) and i'm quite happy to see that the thread has been very much alive. I could not help but appreciate the efforts of Wills and a host of others that have kept this thread alive by keeping nigerians informed of the ever dynamic SCM field.
Much have been said about SCM and i hope those that have gotten to know about the field thru this thread and decided to practise field have not regretted it. Ever since i returned back to naija (going to 3 yrs now), i have seen SCM evolve in naija and almost at per with waht is obtainable abroad but believe you me that are still loads of opportunities, hence the need for these few words of encouragement from me again.

I still wish to emphasis here that anyone (no matter ur academic background) can work as a Supply chain practitioner, what is most important is your initial amptitude, then what u need to train over time are your eyes for efficiency (i.e cost reduction) and value creation cos these are the hallmarks of Logistical planning whether in aspect of procurement, inventory mgt, distribution or any other part of the chain. Hence, need more personal studies, researches and exposure. Certifications will help but believe u me, u can't get a formal certification for every field and that is where experience and knowledge of others come in.

I hope to share with time, my new knowledge and experiences of Supply Chain Management in different industries (FMCG and O &G) and i hope to learn from others on this forum as well. It's is interesting to know that hiring into big time SCM positions are now being done on recommendations of oher professionals and i hope we can create a newwork of SCM professionals that will be useful in the near future.

I will be coming up with more contributions later.

Cheers!
TravelRe: Should I Come Back To This Hopeless Nigeria? by mikedeoye(m): 11:32pm On Mar 10, 2006
My brother, you just have to go back home. It's never a good idea to leave illegally in a foreign land. Apart from that, i just believe there are better days ahead in Nigeria. Do not despise the days of your small beginnings. You ve got alot of opportunities as a Medical doctor, there are legal opportinities in the UK or even the US that u can explore, why not make enquiries about that instead in Nigeria.
CareerRe: Logistics Or Supply Chain Management by mikedeoye(m): 9:24pm On Mar 08, 2006
Zebudaya, good to know that ur are an Industrial Engineer. Ofcourse logistics or supply chain uses Statistics to solve problemsInfact just like in any field like marketing, finance what have u. However, Logistical management ( SCM) basically deals with the management of the flow of material and information across the 'value' chain. By 'value chain', i mean set of activities which are constituted of sourcing and purchasing of raw mtr'ls, the conversion ( manufacturing) of the raw materials into finish goods ( or usable services) and the final delivery ( dsitribution or transportation related) of the products (goods or services) to the final customer. Due to the increasing level of competition in the marketplace, SCM has over the years become very important operation which any company can use to leverage itself in the market. As Wills said, Logistical functions now constitute about 25% to 30 % of the total costs in most coys, ofcourse that calls for great consideration. Sure, no matter how small it may be, every company has as one thing or the other asscociated with logisctis and that creates opportunities anyone that is interested.

Apart from manufacturing, IEs can practise in any other industries like banking, consulting, Telecoms infact anyway u can think of.

Hi Wilson,

CareerRe: Logistics Or Supply Chain Management by mikedeoye(m): 4:20pm On Mar 08, 2006
Wills, thanks so much for that reply. I think why our people here on Nairaland couldn't contribute to this thread is because not too many people know of this exciting field and opportunities therein in nigeria. It is our duty to promote this in Nigeria and that was why i was quite happy when i saw your post on the thread.

You are very right, most big time positions in Logistics and SCM in Nigeria are being managed by expatriates. Shell for example will rather prefer to send expetriates to nigeria to handle such positions rather employ someone locally. Infact, a company like Shell mostly recruits Nigerian Techical ( Engineering) graduates abroad to return home to take up positions but they hardly recruit Nigerian graduates abroad into their commercial positions in which Logistics and Supply chain falls in within their organisation. They prefer foreign experts to handle such and that is why it might be a bit difficult to get recruited here from abroad. Anyway, nothing is impossible.

As regards CIPS, I don't really know so much about the certification, the only thing i know about it is that it's a UK based organisation and it's more about purchasing and supply which has always being the traditional functions within companys before the advent of the conventional SCM as discipline. As it is now, Purchasing is just an arm of the extended Supply Chain. Ofcourse you know that SCM is much more than procurement ( or maybe sourcing) , we ve got other interesting parts of the value chain process like Demand planning and the real supply planning itself, the core manufacturing itself ( covering production planning and other internal logistics like material handling, warehousing and the likes) and ofcourse distribution and transportation. Maybe because i have always been more of a full SCM boy, i see a certification in purchasing as just too limiting when there are other cerfications that covers all processes in the chain. APCIS ( America based) for example offers certification in SCM which can boost your chances of being relevant in any part of the chain. Anyway, as far as nigeria is concerned, CIPS wont be bad at all, it is a good way to really develop ones expertise in the procurement and sourcing are very strategic functions in any organisation. So, my brother u may go for it if the opportunity comes up. i have got a good resource on SCM, please chck this out: http://www.supply-chain.org/page.ww?section=SCOR+Model&name=SCOR+Model

As for work, i worked manufacturing multinational in nigeria ( within the FMCG) before coming abroad, so i know the big time coys who are really into SCM. But i would rather prefer to swich industry on returning home maybe Telecommunications and Oil and Gas. Though, pay is important but is not always the most pressing, the are rooms for comprises. I'm impressed with my qualifications and knowledge within the field but i need to put all these into alot of practise into boost my expertise and knowhow in the field.
CareerRe: Logistics Or Supply Chain Management by mikedeoye(m): 1:02am On Mar 08, 2006
I was quite happy to read your posting on Logistics and SCM. I'm happy to let you know that i m a practioner within the SCM field. I had a first degree in Industrial and Production Engineering ( from UI)  and an MSc in Production and Operations Mgt with specialization in Supply chain Management.

As regards ur request, i think u have done a very good homework on the development of the discipline in Nigeria and you are probably in a better position to inform of the latest as far as Nigeria is concerned. Sure, in terms of training, the best education on supply chain management that you can get is in the US. The likes of UK, Holland, Sweden and Germany are not doing bad as well. But based on your experience, i really dont see any reason for any further education, the truth of the matter is that Supply chain/ Logistics traininng  is better acquired in a hands-on real life scenerio. It is such a dynamic field that alot of things keep changing all the time.

As regards ERPs, i dont know what you mean by trainings on ERPs. Ordinarily, it is unusual here ( where I am ) that SAP or other ERP producers organises trainings on any of their applications unless you have purchased it for use in your company. Ofcourse, there are product DEMOs to introduce you to the product but as for the working knowlege of such, it can only be possible when you directly work with the applications in life scenerio, an example is the knowledge of ones you currently work with.

The other thing about ERPs is that, different companys implement different ones depending on what their core operations is and that is has to be adapted ( customised) to that company. For example i once worked with a SAP application while i worked in a company . This was specially customised for the company and ofcourse was different from another SAP application used in another company. The thing is that a good company will always train you on the use of the particular ERP that they have implemented. I recently did a study on common ERP applications in the Market (Oracle , SAP, Movex, Intertia, Monitor, PeopleSoft J.D Edwards and the likes), even though SAP has the biggest share, research shows that SAP is not appropriate for all organisations, IT consultants will confirm that to you. I see no Nigeria local firm implementing big ERPs like SAP or Oracle cos of the cost implications, The ones that probably use them now in nigeria are the multinationals who have that implemented due to the influence of their parent company abroad.

This just what i have to share with you for now. Can i know the company you for? Im trying to search for logistics compannies in Nigeria that i can apply to as i intend to return home before the end of year. I intend to work in any Logistics service company or within the Logostics division of a company.
RomanceHow Long Should Courtship Last? by mikedeoye(op): 5:48pm On Jul 20, 2005
Hi all, just want to hear your views on this!

"For how long  (duration) do you think you will have to court your intended partner before marriage?" Or maybe I should rephrase the question as "what is your ideal time length for your courtship/relationship before marriage?"

Some people have suggested a minmum of 3 months while some say minimum of 2 years. What do you think personally?

As for me, I'm particularly uncomfortable with long relationships. Anything more than 1 year seem to be getting too long for me.
NYSCRe: The Compulsory One Year NYSC Program by mikedeoye(op): 2:20pm On Jul 20, 2005
I think i shld share my own views as well.

To start with i had my service year in Nasarawa state in an old town called Doma.To be frank my case was that of mixed feelings which ran thru the old year.Though i never really planned to participate in program as my original intention was to run abroad immediately after my Bachelors for my Mastes. But as God will have it i could not secure the scholarship which needed to my make studies abroad so i was forced to stay back and complete  the service.

Franlky speaking my initial views of the whole thing with all the camp experiences and my initial primary posting were all nonsense.I was almost questioning God why He made me to be part of it.However, I got all these changed at the end of whole service year as that year remained of the memorable year of life so far.In essence, what i m saying is that the whole exercise worth(only to some extent). To me it  gave me any opportunity to see Nigeria from a very different perspective.During that  year i realised that Nigeria as a Nation still has long way to reaching true Nationhood.I had the opportunity to impact lives in my whole little way.I shared out of the pains in the rural areas living and dwelling with them. One of the highpoints of the year to me was that i was able to prepare an SS3 CLASS for  the mathematics WAEC EXAM,before my arrival these puplis have not been taught Mathematics for almost 2 years.I saw it as a privelege to impact lives.

However, my experiences after the year proved to me that i wasted one year out of my professional  career.Ofcourse, that relisation came to light on getting here where professional experinece  immediately after university are counted as been very valuable. My whole NYSC year could not have a place on my CV as it was not relevant to my career at all.So i saw myself not been able to account for one year professionally.

Based on this, i think i m  being tempeted to conclude that my whole NYSC EXPERIENCE might after all be a shear waste of time.

What do u think about this?
NYSCThe Compulsory One Year NYSC Program by mikedeoye(op): 1:34pm On Jul 20, 2005
Hi guys and gals in the house, I am about 4 days old on this forum and just felt like posting my first topic.

The topic is "what do you think of the compulsory 1-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program for the Nigerian Graguates?"

Do you think is still very relevant to the present day Nigerian youths or a sheer waste of time?

This topic was prompted by my experiences during and after my service year.

My intention is hear views from ex-corps members, present corpers, potential ones as well as those who have heard of it but never really had an opportunity to participate in it probably because they live abroad.

EducationRe: Undergraduate Studies, UK or Sweden by mikedeoye(m): 4:44pm On Jul 18, 2005
Well..... it's not just the langauge that matters though it is the most important thing.Apart from not been able to get to learn the Swedish outside sweden( cos it is not a widely spoken language) as I dont think there is any means of learning it in Nigeria at least to the best of my knowledge. The other thing is that the high school educational systtem here differs alot from that in Nigeria so there might be some discrepancies in the education and such maybe expected to complete some years before he can be taken into Uni here. The fact is High schol here is basically designed for Swedes themselves.it is a straight 12 yr studies

To me, i think it is always good to come in here with a Bsc as it easily reconciliable with University edu here.So i still strongly advice you look some where else for ur studies if u still insist in Studying abroad for ur first degree.

Cheers!
