PoliticsRe: Which Way Nigeria ? by mikolo80: 6:25am On Aug 06, 2016
justhelp:
To start with am pro Buhari. But am not sure of where Nigeria is heading to, I don't know what to expect from this government anymore (good or bad).

However, I still hoping for better Nigeria under APC. Having said that, this government need to do more to rescue our currency from falling, because very soon Naira will be useless even to Cefa.

In fact, to buy 1000 Cefa now its about 650 naira while it was just 350 naira before, I was at tokpa market in cotonu on the 3rd of this month and I was ashamed of holding a Nigeria currency. (me that I used to boast whenever am there before) Which Way Nigeria?

One forex man told me to bring 6,000 Naira to exchange for 9,000 Cefa, the worst thing is that the price of their commondities still remain the same in Cefa, for example the price of jago condensed milk is 1,000 Cefa for more than three years now even when we exchage 1,000 Cefa for just 350 Naira. Which Way Nigeria?

Can those in the importation business survive ? I don't want to talk about dollar I know it will be the worst. So am calling on our economic team, the CBN and others major actors to do something about our currency as soon as possible. Thanks

NB: please ignore my typing error and pass the message the the president.

PoliticsRe: Before You Criticise Buhari For Appointing An 84-Year-Old Durojaiye by mikolo80: 6:21am On Aug 06, 2016
TonyeBarcanista:
Earlier this morning, I received a call from a member of my palmchat social media circle probing my silence on the appointment of 84-years old Otunba Senator Biyi Durojaiye as the new Chairman of Nigeria Communication Commission, a sector unarguably dominated by young people. Though I wasn't impressed by the appointment of Otunba Biyi, and I see it as another setback in the agitation for a generational shift in leadership, I still couldn't help but do a retrospection in PDP, that I am unfortunately aligned with at the moment to check whether it is any different.

Who gives a sheet whether you're impressed or not

About 24hours after the appointment of Otunba Durojaiye, the Makarfi led Caretaker Committee of the PDP released a 248-member National Convention Committee list and another 80-member Finance Committee list for the Convention. A look at the 328 Member Combined list will show names of those that came, saw and never conquered. No single individual within the youth age of 18-35 was considered. In the list, there are lots of people that are even in their Seventies(official age). On sighting the list, I told some members of my clique that young people are in trouble in both parties. Then I asked "What is the difference between the appointment of  Senator Durojaiye and the PDP Convention Committee list?"

APC AND PDP DON'T CARE ABOUT THE YOUTH
If you take a look at the ministers appointed by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, the "youngest" minister as at time of appointment was/is Abubakar Malami (SAN), who is the  Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation. How "young" is he? He was 48years as at time of appointment in 2015, and now 49. Kemi Adeosun, the finance minister that people call "young" is also 49(a month older than Malami). Meanwhile, the Youth Policy in Nigeria defines youths as citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria within the age of 18–35 years. In other words, there is NOT a single Youth within Buhari cabinet... Even the Youth Affairs Minister is 54 years of age.

Found yoots care about themselves?
Why should the babas?

Under the last administration, the only youth that made it into the cabinet of President Goodluck Jonathan was Dr Nurudeen Mohammed, who was appointed at age 35, though the appointment was commendable, he was however relegated to the position of junior minister despite his performance in the Senate during screening exercise. Meanwhile, the former President would later appoint a 58years old two-time former Governor of Adamawa state, Boni Haruna as "Youth Minister". He would also appoint an 80years old Dr. Christopher Kolade as Head of Sure-P, and an 80-years old Bamangar Tukur as "Ambassador at Large". For those that may be unaware, Tukur was a Governor of Gongola state in 1983 (36years ago).

What did nuru do with his 1 talent

In truth, political appointment in this part of the world is about "sharing" the spoils among party top chieftains and not based on factors that will push the country forward. This is the norm in both PDP and APC, and unfortunately for young people, they are never considered in the scheme of things because they were not among the "FOUNDING FATHERS" of either parties.  The interesting thing about the whole event is that both APC and PDP have a form of established barter system where there is an unwritten code that mandates both parties to heavily reward any chieftain that switches camps.  This privilege is only reserved for "elder chieftains' not rank and file youths.

Wake up dummy
Sharing happens in all countries
No be yoots value demsself useless?

THE CHIEFTAINS OF PARTIES IN BOTH APC AND PDP WILL CONTINUE TO HOLD SWAY
If you look at both parties, for one to emerge as candidate for General election or Conventions, he must win popular votes among the "delegates" of the party. Who are these delegates?

While some may assume that the "youths" from both camps can mobilise themselves with their clear majority, both parties constitution doesn't work that way.

In the PDP for instance, to elect a governorship candidate, the party constitution provides that each ward will present 3 delegates, of which one will be a woman. To provide shield in case of hijack, the party provides that there shall be "AUTOMATIC DELEGATES". These automatic delegates include, National Chairman and Members of the National Executive Committee, Elected office holders from the state, Members of the Zonal and State Executive Committee,   LG Party Secretary, Treasurer, Youth Leader and Woman Leader, Former members of state Working Committee,  Former Governor and Deputy produced by the Party and  Former Speakers & Deputy Speakers.

A look at the "automatic delegates" has given the "Chieftains" undue advantage in the whole process. We shouldn't even forget that even the ward congress is organised by the chieftains and their wish stays. This is not different from APC... Well, their party after all.

No be d yoots when join mumu party

NIGERIA NEEDS 21ST CENTURY LEADERSHIP
Nigeria is in a quagmire because the people that were the problem are the same group of people parading themselves as the solution, even when they either lack the cognitive skill required of 21st century leadership or they are simply there to further their business.

Our present crop of Governors and LGA Chairmen are unable to use modern skills to achieve wealth creation, neither are they able to utilise various resources in their domain to shoot IGR upward. Shamefully, most of them believe that governance is about sitting in the office and waiting for oil money to share. Some see governance as frivolty like  posing for pictures with the poor and those in need of good governance. Sadly, they couldn't consider it wise to appoint smart brains as Special Advisers to help shaping their administration.

Why should they give a damn about you when you're only interested in rice and tribalism

NIGERIA YOUTHS MUST STEP UP
Nigeria Youths must arise. Our South African neighbours have grown beyond youth being part of governance but moved to young people taking over reins of power. Unlike Nigeria that keep permuting men of mid and late 50s-60s to succeed Buhari, South Africans are permuting lads of 33-45 to succeed Jacob Zuma in 2019.  We need a change in orientation and take that leap of faith for the sake of Nigeria and our future.

Una tink say na by keyboard warrior ba

THE POWER OF YOUTHS
In 2013, a group of SA youths led by 33years old Julius Malema, a former President of ANC Youth Wing formed a political party called Economic Freedom Fighters. In 2015 August, they successfully secured a judgement from the Constitutional Court to order President Jacob Zuma and the Speaker to payback state funds that was used for personal effect. Before the judgement, the party participated in 2014 Parliamentary election and won a whopping TWENTY-FIVE seats out of 400 in the National Assembly, and Seven out of 90 in the National Council of Province. These are in addition to seats won in various provinces. In fact, they became the third force in South Africa.

In 2014 a 17-years old Joshua Wong, and other teenagers including Agnes Chow and Oscar Lai, and 21-years old Nathan law led fellow students to shut down Hong Kong for almost two months due to unfavorable pro-China policy. Even after the protest, these lads went ahead to form a Political Party in April 2016 Demosistō. Nathan Law(23) is the Chairman, Oscar Lai is Vice Chairman, and Joshua Wong is Secretary general. A key agenda in their manifesto is self-determination for Hong Kong people, and they have been growing in popularity despite government persecution.

I believe that I have said a lot. I wish to take a pause at this juncture.

As for my PDP friends, before you criticise Buhari for appointing an 84-years old man as NCC Chairman, please ask yourself whether or not PDP considered a youth in their own appointment. As for those young people that are justifying the appointment, I leave you to your conscience.

Which wan you wan lead

PoliticsRe: 6 Major Problems Nigeria Has Been Struggling With Since Independence by mikolo80: 6:02am On Aug 06, 2016
McGibson:
Despite being labeled as the Giant of Africa, the general feeling in Nigeria, and the world, is that Africa’s most populous nation could do much better, given her natural resources and potential.
In the years after her independence, Nigeria was regarded as a land flowing with milk and honey but nowadays Nigerians search for greener pastures abroad. The situation has degenerated and gotten so worse that some Nigerians wish the colonial masters would come back to rule the nation.
Since Nigeria gained freedom from Britain, the country has been grappling with several problems without finding a lasting solution to it. Some of them are:
Corruption
Corruption is a huge problem Nigeria has been fighting with since independence. It started with government officials and has gradually eaten deep into every other area of the economy. It’s very rare to see a government official who isn’t corrupt nowadays.
Currently, Nigeria ranks very high in the league of corrupt nations, and as stated by ex British Prime Minister David Cameron, Nigeria is a “fantastically corrupt” country with corrupt leaders. This problem has been there since independence and has gotten worse.
President Muhammadu Buhari has put up a fight against the monster but only time will tell if the war will be won. Plus he probably has just four years to achieve this.

Impunity of Leaders
Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Once in power, Nigerian leaders at the federal, state and local government levels feel invincible and disregard the rule of law, whenever they can. Leaders bend rules to their wishes and damn the consequences. The judiciary arm of the government has been toothless and only clamp down on the average citizens while top government officials who break the law are left to wander free.

Internal Strife
Nigeria is an amalgam of over 300 ethnic tribes. For some reasons, these tribes haven’t found a way to co-exist peacefully, despite having decades of experience. Most people firstly pledge allegiance to their tribe before admitting they’re Nigerians. As a result, square pegs have gone into round holes and needless squabbles have degenerated into full-blown war between communities. Tribalism reigns in Nigeria and it plays a great part in the country’s current quagmire.

Worsening Economy
Things have gotten worse for the Nigerian masses over the decades. The country’s economy has been deteriorating over the years with the hope that things will get better getting fainter. The country’s infrastructure which should stimulate economic growth is in shambles and little is done to reverse the case.

Administrative Inefficiency
One of Nigeria’s biggest problems is its lack of good leadership. Nigeria has barely managed to rule itself efficiently or achieve political stability since it gained independence 56 years ago. The Nigerian civil service has depreciated over the years and is now riddled with corruption and ineptitude. Due to tribalism and other ills, appointments into offices are based on nepotism instead of pragmatism. As a result, unqualified candidates are put in important positions and the result is what we have today.

Over Dependence on oil
This problem started in the 70’s when oil was discovered in the Niger Delta. Nigeria depends solely on oil as its source of revenue, abandoned agriculture and refused to seek other means of making money. Coupled with corruption and a non-saving culture, the country’s economy went into recession following the drop in the price of crude oil.

PoliticsRe: Lagos State Government's Terrorism Against Igbos by mikolo80: 5:58am On Aug 06, 2016
ImperialYoruba:
here is no doubt that ethnic relationship in Lagos is under threat and this is purely as a result of the utterances and action of the Lagos state government, Yoruba supremacists and the Oba of Lagos. For some understandable but unacceptable reasons, they have resorted to the politics of hate and discrimination and the Igbos as always, have been at the receiving end.

After being driven away from the North under the guise of Boko Haram because some of them voted for Jonathan, it would seem that some people in Lagos state have decided t it is time to turn on them for simulate reasons.

I am alarmed at the way Igbos are singled out for discriminatory treatment and often the target of hate crimes for no other reason that they have succeeded where their persecutors have failed. It is time to do something about it, before it degenerates into ethnic cleansing and another pogrom.

The Mushin market was developed by Igbos. The closure of the marked and the threat to bulldoze it, while the goods of the traders are still inside, it, is not only a calculated act of wickedness from very hateful and prejudiced hearts, driven by envy and greed, but a shameless attempt to forcefully acquiring what another person has worked for.

It is attempt to hide behind the law to dispossess Igbos of what they worked very hard for, reminiscent of the dispossession of Jews of their possessions in Nazi Germany.

This is another unlawful action in what is evolving as a calculated plan, to subjugate and intimidate Igbos in Lagos in the continuing pogrom against Igbos in Nigeria.

The recent flame of ethnic hatred against Igbos, fanned by the likes of Femi Fani-Kayode, Dr Abraham Ariyo and Oba of Lagos, is gathering strength.

The victimisation of Igbos in Lagos continues and the rest of Nigeria keep silent. What excuse can any democratic government have to act against law abiding citizens of Nigeria in Lagos, in the way and manner, the Lagos government has acted against Igbos?

What is the excuse for a civil government to act in such autocratic, irresponsible and inhumane manner?

The singling out of any ethnic group in a multiethnic nation for some unfair treatment, is almost always both the foundation of its failure and the beginning of its disintegration.

This is because no people can build a safe, strong and united nation, without paying serious attention to justice as fairness and equality of all under the law.

The attempt to exploit Igbos, who are the nation builders if Nigeria unfairly, or hide under the smoke screen of the law and power to persecute them in anyway, undermines the foundation and viability of Nigeria. Igbos are the glue that hold Nigeria together. The are the ones who build outside their ethnic region, if they disinvest and head to the East, Nigeria will cease to exist. If the prejudice and discrimination and persecution against them continues, this will become inevitable.

It has happened in Iraq, Sudan, Syria, and Yugoslavia, to mention only but three. It will happen in Nigeria, no matter how loud those who are benefiting from the status shout that Nigeria must remain one, if the persecution and targeting of Igbos for discriminatory treatment, is not brought to an end in places like Lagos.

With the closure of the The Market in Mushin, where the traders are predominantly Igbos and without regard to their rights as free citizens of Nigeria, the ethnic divide in Nigeria is being widened. Igbos established the Market and those driven by greed, jealousy and ethnic prejudice must be compelled by the law.

Such people do not stop, unless they are stopped. Their aim is to destroy those they hate. Hitler did not stop and I do not see those behind the closure of Mushin market stopping, until they have thrown Igbos into Lagos into the Lagoon as the have threatened. Only God knows how many they have already thrown into the Lagoon.

Igbos must take this development seriously, those who forget history, only live to repeat it.

Africa is still very underdeveloped and minds of the people, who perpetrate ethnic atrocities are dominated by traditional beliefs, religious beliefs and ethnic prejudice.

They find it difficult to be fair to people who are not either of the same ethnic group with them, or share the same religion. Theirs' is a primitive mindset, dominated by greed, hate and pride, which have very little place for tolerance, equality and fairness.

Therefore, those at risk of ethnic prejudice and unfair treatment must make effort to protect themselves. The world always arrived too late to the scene if genocide.

In my view, it is time for Igbos with investment outside Igboland to begin to repatriate them to places where they would not be targeted because they are Igbos.

Igbo leaders must now fight for Enugu, Port Harcourt and Calabar airports and port Harcourt and Calabar seaports to get the same licence and consideration as Lagos airport and Lagos Apapa seaport to attract more airlines, and ships so that Igbos engaged in international trades trips, are not compelled to travel via Lagos.

Lagos has benefited and flourished because of the privileges and monopoly it enjoys and it is time to level the playing grounds so that human effort and ingenuity will determine the outcome.

This would seem to be the the fair response under the circumstance. There is enough land between Port Harcourt and Asaba to contain all Igbos in Nigeria, if Lagos state government, the Oba of Lagos and Boko Haram wants to continue their terrorism against Igbos.

Igbos must now realise that no one can make another to love him or her, if the person has chosen to hate people like him or her. Nigeria's ethnic divid is deep, Igbos continue to ignore at our peril.

A cripple should not die in a war that everybody saw coming. Locking a market developed by Igbos and depriving families of means of their livelihood is a targeted act of terrorism against Igbos, which should have no place in a multiethnic democracy like Nigeria. It is a cold and calculated act of wickedness and an audacious attention at wealth grab.

It simply and clearly demonstrated that the perpetrators do not give the same consideration they give to those who share the same ethnic group with them to those who do not.

It is a targeted act of persecution, victimisation and terrorism against Igbos because of who they are. It is wrong. It should be unacceptable and should not be justified or condoned, if Nigeria will survive as a United country.

This is the time to address it. We should not wait, until area boys get orders from the Oba of Lagos, to begin to throw Igbo traders, who are protesting glaring injustice into the lagoon, or the police gets order from the governor to shot them.

What is happening in Lagos is another way to oppress and extort money from Igbos. It is and act ethnic cleansing and persecution and reminds me of how Nazi Germans were treating German Jews in the 1930s.

What use is a country which can sympathise with you, but can do nothing to help redress the injustice you suffer? Where are the so called Igbo Leaders?

This should be a turning point for Igbos who think we will escape the fate of Jews in Germany, if we continue to do nothing, while this pogrom continues.

I do not think I wish to continue to be part of a Nigeria, where Igbos are constant targets of discriminations and victimisation for exercising their rights to hold political opinion and support the party of their choice in the way and manner they have been targeted in Lagos.

It is time for Buhari to demonstrate that he is president of Nigeria and would protect all ethnic groups and for all who believe in freedom, justice and equality to speak out and do all in their power to bring back the Lagos state government and Oba of Lagos to the path of law, civility, justice as fairness and equality. These are the bedrocks of any viable nations.

We in naija use debit cards mostly hence your account must be well funded before you can make a purchase. My point is I believe in Nigeria. I'm not carried away by whatever happens in the West. Nigeria shall be great.
no the citizens are highly productive morons that were swindled into buy-in made in China products at exorbitant cost

Oil, oil, oil. If it is not oil, our leaders have little sense. That's why we pay little or no attention to other sectors of the economy.

To them, it is like what is in it for them? What is in it for their pockets? If they can't see it then it is not relevant.

But don't we plan? Don't we have an Olympic committee? Why are we stranded? Don't we have all the movement drawn from point A to point B and then back to Nigeria and what it will take? This is a serious embarrassment to Nigeria, Nigerians and Nigerians leaders.

There is something in it for us: Our National Pride.
what national pride
