I agree with what you wrote up there and they are points I myself would make any day anytime. Just for some minor things I disagree with.
Imported goods are actually more expensive than locally made goods, but it remains for us a kind of status symbol when we use foreign, besides we think foreign goods are superior and better made and will last longer, which in a way might be true most often.

Name the inexpensive items

Sure, the government cannot be absolved of blame neither can it be sidelined in the scheme of things, yet we know Nigeria, don't we?

So we should give up without a fight abi!?

Our rulers will never do anything for the common masses unless it benefits them one way and other.

It's called being human
How many truly selfless things have you done
It's you the voters that should vote only after blackmailing the politician to do your bidding
Hat e the game not the player

They pay lip service to just about everything that concerns the masses, yet steal with reckless abandon.

When the voters say they are OK with rice and lamenting on nairaland

Do you sincerely think the government will enact a law banning importation of rice if their wives or children are in charge of the importation? Or if they collect kickbacks from those importing?

Yeah they will if rice growers association mobilises votes and threatens to vote for opposition

The only way the ordinary man on the streets is able to control this is if when they go to the market they all ask for locally made goods. Do that and see foreign imports die a natural death.

Not while foreign goods are cheaper and of better quality they won't

Otherwise, I'm in total agreement with you.

PMWSpirit:
Since last year's general elections where the PDP lost the presidential election to the APC, the Igbos, especially their youths, have continued unremittingly to vent their spleen on the Yorubas by calling them different unprintable names like "Yorobbers", "betrayers", slaves of the Hausa-Fulanis etc. Let us go down the memory lane and put it in historical perspective. Both in 1979 and 1983 presidential elections, Chief Obafemi Awolowo contested against Alhaji Shehu Shagari, it was the refusal of the Igbo people that scuttled Awolowo's chance. Again When Alex Ekwueme, an Igbo man of intimidating credentials, contested the PDP primaries against Obasanjo in 1999, it was the Igbo people in consort with Hausa-Fulanis that conspired against Ekwueme which led to the emergence of Obasanjo. When Ojukwu, the Biafra war hero, and undisputed Igbo leader, contested for presidency in 2003 the Igbo people failed to vote for him. When Orji Uzor Kalu floated a party and contested for presidency in 2007, the Igbo rejected him and they voted for Yar'adua. The infamous role played by the Igbo in 1993 June 12 presidential election is still fresh in our memory. MKO Abiola, a Yoruba man, contested for presidency and won, it was an Igbo man, Arthur Nzeribe through his satanic ABN that scuttled Abiola's ambition alongside Babangida, through a dubious court injuction. When Abiola was detained by General Abacha, it was your kinsman, Daniel Kanu who led a vigorous campaign for Abacha for life president through his well-oiled infamous organization, Youth Earnestly Ask for Abacha YEAA. We still remember vividly the prominent role played by the eminent Yoruba men when Goodluck Jonathan, as Vice President was fenced out by the Aso Rock cabals, during the Yar'Adua's protracted illness in far away Saudi Arabia. Was it not the Yoruba men like Professor Wole Soyinka, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Femi Falana, late Dr Tunji Breithwhite and others who raised an alarm and fought vigorously that powers should be transmitted to Jonathan in an acting capacity? Where were the Igbos when the Save Nigeria Group members took the agitation upon themselves and took to the streets of Abuja and Lagos? During the Biafra War between 1967 to 1970, a Yoruba man, in person of Professor Wole risked his life for the sake of Igbo. The literary icon put his weight behind the Biafra agitators by crisscrossing the length and breadth of the Igbo land and canvassing for their support. This earned Soyinka imprisonment for three years. Who is a betrayer between the Igbo and Yoruba? The Igbos have always been the serial supporters of the Northern Oligarchy right from Independence. During the first Republic, it was the NCNC, Dr Nnamdi Azikwe's party that mooted the idea of aligning with NPC, the party of the Northern Region headed by Alhaji Ahmadu Bello. The Action Group, South-West party headed by Awolowo, preferred to be in its regional cocoon and played the role of opposition to the Hausa-Fulani Oligachy while the Igbos fully embraced the central party. This paved the way for Zik being appointed as ceremonial president in 1959 while Alhaji Tafawa Balewa was made the Prime Minister, exercising the full executive powers. Yoruba has never been in the mainstream of Nigerian politics. The South-West has always preferred to play regional politics. It was when Jonathan became president in 2011 and relegated the Yoruba to the background despite the overwhelming support given to him by the South-West that the Yoruba woke up from their deep slumber and pitched their tent with the party they believed would protect their own interest. The truth pinches but it can't be covered. Finally, Let our Igbo brothers always go into the archive of history instead of this unwarranted name-callings.

are you even human ? Or should I ask how old are you?

I don't think this is coming from an adult that is intellectually sound

I'm repeating it pls, how old are you? Wow I'm fuvking amazed at what you just wrote

As a citizen I don't have RIGHTS, I only have privileges?? W.T.F?

You're even bringing God into this?

God even understood the basics amenities of mankind, that's why he provided the sun, the rain, light and darkness, night and day, soil and water, and so on.

Now what has the Governments provide for it people?

Is it road, electricity, water, jobs, security?
This are the things we've struggled to provide for our selves.

You're asking the farmers to protect themselves? And we pay taxes to the governments which is being used to pay all forms of forces, police the armies and so on and we still need to go ahead and protect ourselves.

You're talking about insurancehuh You think every farmer in Nigeria can go for insurance? Even the old men and women in the villages that got their produce destroyed and even got killed? And how many insurance do you even have on yourself? I'm sure you're the type that hides under his mummy's bed and keep typing poo there, coz you sound like you've never faced the reality of every Nigerian struggle b4.

You're even contradicting yourself by saying WE can only get what we clamoured for e.g the Israelites? I thought your ideology was that we were not suppose to talk?

And by the way, I'm a graduate and I paid my way out of all the institution I went to with the help of my parents.

I'm a farmer who eats his 3square meal comfortablely and doesn't lack the personal basic amenities of life that's bcoz I make them available for myself. And by God's grace I will only go higher.

I'm voicing out because the leaders failed their promises...

You even said they're fighting for their families so we should fight for ours, which means if you get to where they are, you will only fight for yourself and family alone gosh your reasoning disgust me. How old are you againhuh??

You and about 2 other people of your kind are the only odd ones on this thread

Listen pls, the president to an extent has more power than NASS. A bill passed by NASS can't be implemented without the president endorsing it.

Yes they can

Download a copy of constitution
It's free
They only need ⅔ votes to override presidential assent

However, a bill pass by the president is always endorsed by NASS if it means well for the country.

Only if Ghana must go is shared

In this case restructuring is good for the country. It must start from the president. Let him proposed a bill on restructuring and let see if NASS will reject it.

The pain in the heart of most Igbos is the role played by the Yorubas during the civil war.

Whatever Ojukwu and Awolowo discussed in secret, I don't know but what the public is aware of is that Awolowo said that if the east was allowed to secede the west would follow suit. Ojukwu ended up declaring the east a free and sovereign country but Awolowo refused to declare the west side a soverign country. To make matters worse, he joined the north to fight against us and the most painful part is starving many of our innocent women and children to death. We are not bothered about casualties on the battle field but the starving of our children coming from him.

You should thought about this before starting war you couldn't finish

Another Yoruba man, adekunle took it so personal to point of shooting women and children at the outskirts of Biafra. This man said that he didn't want to even see the Red Cross trying to help something even the Hausa/Fulani did not say!

All is fair in love and war

Personally I feel the Yorubas should apologise to us for these.

You started war
You got your assess, kicked

To set the records straight, Igbos don't hate Yorubas because if we did, we would not be marrying you every day.

PoliticsRe: Youths And Politics.....the Truth! by mikolo80: 4:57am On Aug 01, 2016
ahmstrng:
There are more than 1.2 billion people under the age of 30 in Africa, accounting for over 60 per cent of our total population. In some of our member states, particularly in Nigeria, the youth demographic rises to 70 per cent.

Youth are talented, knowledgeable and ambitious, and are making a difference every day in all fields of work and as leaders in their communities. They play an integral part in advancing development, democracy and peace, and in promoting Commonwealth values such as respect and understanding.

Despite their drive and achievements, young people’s contribution to society often goes unrecognized, nor are they adequately invested in or included in decision-making processes such as political and economical matters. At the same time young people also face formidable issues of unemployment, discrimination and lack of access to education and healthcare. Left unresolved, these challenges will impede national development while hindering each individual’s personal potential.
“When our children are assured of survival and health, provided with a good education, protected from war and violence, and when youth participate in the democracy and development of their countries, then Africa will be set to claim the 21st century” – Kingsley Y. Amoako, a Ghanaian-born international civil servant and diplomat who led the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in 1995-2005 at the rank of UN Under-Secretary-General.
It is no time but the best time to draw effect to the fact that youth participation and action in the smooth running and political ideology of our immediate environ is a turn down and total frown and slap on the idea that we have intellectual and democratic minded youth in Africa, considering the instance of the activities in the west and the inclination and projection of their youth in the society plan and diplomatic relations cannot be reiterated.

According to my own conviction about youthful participation in Politics and in line with international overview of democracy and good governance, it is when the people are freely involve in the design of their direct participation in managing their own affairs without imposition of a third party’s influence or dictating terms. It is inclusive perfection in the decision making process between and amongst the society in governance. In other words, Youth involvement must be based on the particular conditions of each society, but also on the shared values of the equal dignity and rights of all human beings.

We practice democracy in the fairest and uptight use, for democracy to work, it requires a well-functioning judicial system based on the principles of the rule of law and a just political settlement with equally shared ratio of age participation. This is very important in a political stability of very state, It is essentials because it allows free and fair elections, functioning political parties, independent media and vibrant civil society organizations and NGOs that can operate freely for welfare and development of state. In democracy and good governance, there is a political, social and economic accountability of people in positions of power for their actions due to the pure and ideal mindset of youths and sting towards true representation.

The involvement and participation of all with the attitude of respect to all and injury to none, the ideal importance and rationality behind the formation of democracy by the founding fathers will not be jeopardized so is the effect of rule of law, checks and balances enforcement.

Nevertheless at the expense of all this not in suitable place, it is issued on our shoulders, when I say “our” I mean “youth” to create a better and more comfortable arena for the practice of justice, because to present ourself with task of this huge importance, we have to showcase the very vast level of intellectual assimilation and orientations. This recommendations are prescribe to the youth for easy policy making and involvement in nation building and betterment, so as to declare their own availability for immense Establishment of National Youth Policy. The political leadership and indeed the

You just spoilt the whole right up with waiting for the old to give leadership to the young

Ministry responsible for youth, sport and recreation should design national youth service council where they will be trained to participate in national building that constitute democracy and good governance. They current youth Unions and associations at various levels are not organized with competence to neither participate in democracy and good governance nor challenge the government in the management of public affairs.
Professional Dialogue on Democracy and Good Governance:

There is a great concern about youth coming together and discuss issues by emphasizing the important role that youth can play in addressing corruptions at all level of public and private sector, so that it demand accountability and concrete actions from their government to address youth unemployment. There are many jobs here in Nigeria, only that wrong people are place at wrong places. when right people are unemployed. This confusion must be corrected to allow youth to work. Youth cannot be compared to older people because youth are engine of change; they are easily transformable into what is needed for betterment of the nation and they should not remain unused.

Definition of Youth and 15% Affirmative Action: I call upon the youth to come together to discuss amongst themselves and present their uniform position to National Constitutional Commission for inclusion in the constitution. Different youth group have already expressed their opinion by defining a youth as a person from the age of 18 to 40 years old. The government must also consider 15% affirmative action for youth in allocation of public offices at all levels of government and this must be expressly provided for in the constitution.
