Family / Rethinking My Stay In Nigeria by Mille: 6:56pm On Jul 13, 2023 |
To be clear, I love living in Nigeria. I have had the best social standing and quality of life here. Coupled with the social support readily available to me, I am not in any hurry to leave Nigeria. I have tasted life on the other side and I know what to expect. But the issue is I am very prone to Malaria. Growing up, I used to treat malaria like 6-7 times a year to the point that I know almost the nurses and doctors in any area I move to. As an adult making bread, I have been able to reduce that to like 2 times a year with very proactive actions that doesn't come cheap. I am very rarely down with anything other than malaria. A few days ago, my 2-year old daughter got malaria for the first time while I was also down with it. I had to forget about my own and ensure she got the best treatment. I was restless and worried for the 2-3 days she was down. Now I can't even bear the thought of seeing her down with it again not to even talk about having it constantly. I have been looking at options abroad (Germany job seeker visa, Netherlands orientation visa, Sweden job seeker visa), all of which I qualify for easily. Is there a way to know if she is prone to Malaria or it's just a one time thing? I am the only one prone to Malaria amongst my siblings. The others rarely get sick at all. Btw; I am AA and my daughter is AA too. I am already feeling I would be doing her a huge favor moving to a country without any chance of malaria occurrence. 3 Likes |

Dabronze: Lol. They will attack any state that they feel threatened by. The only reason I do not see Nigeria in any kind of war or conflict with external actors is our population. We have a very high youth population who are ready to japa at any opportunity. I don't see NATO attacking Nigeria unless the EU is ready to take in a very high influx of Nigerians and citizens of our neighboring countries. The Syrian refugee crisis will be a child's play if Nigeria ever gets involved in any conflict in the coming years. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Family / Re: Why Monogamous Marriages Are Dangerous To Men. by Mille: 1:57pm On Jul 08, 2023 |
I always try to learn from people around me. As a man, as you're trying to do the best for your family, also try to do the best for yourself. And most importantly, make investments for your future. The story of my Grandfather who died late last year at 96. My grandmother died about 14 years earlier. My Grandparents had something similar. My grandpa moved to Lagos Island while I was small. My Grandma used the excuse of her business and staying closer to her kids to stay in their previous apartment. She stayed about 20 minutes away from us so we do see her quite often. As a child, we were given all the brainwashing about how Grandma was the best thing since jollof rice so we were not that close with my grandfather. We do go to visit him maybe once in a year except when he comes visiting and he rarely stays the night. It was after growing up that I learnt the whole truth. I mean, I couldn't believe it when I learnt that he married my grandma after she was thrown out of her previous marriage for infertility and the reason that she had children and grandchildren were even because of him and his knowledge in traditional medicine. Women will selfishly do anything to corner the love of their children. They employed housekeepers for my grandfather to take care of him. At a point, I started noticing physical changes in the man. He was becoming fresh, strong and very healthy like someone ageing backwards. It was not until 2015 that I discovered my old man had gotten married to a fresh succulent young woman and even had a son. While there may be speculations and rumors about the reason for their relationship, I'm very sure he does not care and neither do I. He has had the best old age of any person I know. All of which will not have been possible if he was a poor old man. And he was anything but lonely. Eyesight was perfect, strength was good, walks good unaided. So as a man, rather than struggling to pay 1m for each kid in this economy, let them go to a school of 500k while you invest the remaining 500k in your future. Do not make the mistake of becoming a pauper or relying on pension in your old age. Your children will hiss many times before they pick your calls. 3 Likes 1 Share |
Travel / Re: Sequel - Nigerians Are Not Suffering In UK Stop Lying by Mille: 1:10pm On Jul 06, 2023 |
My takeaway is that Nigerians should know that everything is relative. The UK will either be an upgrade or a downgrade depending on the person's living condition in Nigeria before relocating. For someone who was balling in Nigeria or comfortable before relocating, the UK will be a massive downgrade if they are stuck in blue collar jobs. It will be a very big upgrade for someone who was unemployed or managing a 200k salary in Nigeria. I did DHL and GLS sorting job while studying in Germany. And after studying, I couldn't get a professional job except an Amazon warehouse job that pays over €2k. Now the money was good but I was unfulfilled and a bit depressed because I feel I am above that level. I looked around me and quite a lot of people similar to me were stuck in these minimum wage jobs. Infact, my feeling as a black African was more like Germany only considers us for blue collar jobs. The ones who don't want to do manual jobs end up having to do a PhD. I then decided Germany as at then was not for me. I explored the UK and visited Manchester where many of my family lives in. Unfortunately for me, I couldn't connect to the middle-class Africans. Many of my family members were doing care or factory work so I got discouraged and binned the UK. Got a remote job that pays a bit less than Amazon and returned home to Nigeria. I'll disagree with the notion that Nigerians in UK are suffering. But I just feel a lot of them are professionally unfulfilled. I intend to go back abroad and return. But my anthem is simple; " I WILL NEVER DO MANUAL or MINIMUM WAGE JOBS. Wherever I go, I don't want to be in the lower rungs of the society I live in The US remains the best choice for any professional willing to relocate abroad. 24 Likes 9 Shares |

Ahmed0336: That's why as a well-to-do African man, almost all of your investments should be in Africa. Let me see the court that can enforce the seizure of your properties. I remember the case of a well-to-do Hong Kong man married to a fellow Hong Kong woman and stay-at-home mom living in Vancouver, Canada. The man's business were in Hong Kong and he shuttles between Hong Kong and Vancouver where his wife and two sons live. The woman filed for divorce and the court gave her the Vancouver house they stay in and some other properties in Hong Kong and a monthly alimony of about 12,500 CAD. Baba simply did not return to Canada and only sent upkeep money directly to his sons aged 18 and 16. 3 Likes |

WrriterNig: It pains me to see this happen in France. She is a country that has been very dear to my heart just behind Nigeria even before I did my Masters there. I hate most of France's foreign policies, especially it's atrocities in Francophone Africa and some of her politicians including that bitch Marine Le Pen but I do not hate the country or it's people neither do I pray for her downfall nor destruction. IMO, Protesters should lose any form of protection or legitimacy once there is violence, looting and destruction of public properties. If you want to protest, protest against institutions and not private individuals and businesses. I stopped supporting EndSars when they started burning buses and destroying public facilities in my home city. I hope Macron is able to grow some balls and do the needful cos I just saw a video of so called "protesters" firing live rounds at CCTV cameras. |
Family / Re: Growing Up As A Son Raise By Singlemother. How Has Life Be ? by Mille: 9:22pm On Jun 30, 2023 |
Dc14: Which of it don't you agree with? How many single fathers are there compared to single mothers raising a child into teenage years alone? It is very rare. Unless the man is really really poor. Most single fathers whether divorced, widowed or getting someone pregnant in their early years tend to marry or remarry sometimes in the child early years. The child they have custody of gets a mother figure in the woman their father later marries. The ones they don't have custody of end up getting raised by family members and single mothers. 1 Like |

Hamachi: I really enjoyed reading your reply. Back to the topic. No; You alone cannot teach a son on how to be a man. I grew up in a lower middle class environment with a very alarming rate of single motherhood. In fact, our building had 4 single mother tenants and I had to befriend, play and go to school with plenty of guys who were raised by single moms. My observations are the following; - There is an absence of a father's authority and discipline. Despite the women's effort, many of the male children become delinquent. For those with the presence of an involved father, the situation is mostly different. In fact, the threat of "I'll tell your father when he comes back" by your mother is enough to turn you straight. I am sure you yourself have heard the phrase " I go tell your papa" quite often. - It tends to open up the children to all forms of abuse by their peers and other members of the society. From physical abuse to bullying to sexual abuse etc. because most times, members of the society have no one to fear. - They tend to be very emotional and sensitive just like women. Take decisions with emotions and no logic. And to hide their sensitivity, they become unnecessarily aggressive. As we know, aggressiveness leads to delinquency which leads to a violent street attitude which then leads to a life of crime. - Crime; My God. That's the most significant effects. All of the factors I have listed contribute to it. Our streets, our schools can just turn upside down in the blink of an eye. I always had to wear "civilian clothes" under my school uniform just in case of trouble which could happen anytime. From Lagos to London where the teenage sons of these single mothers are stabbing each other to the US where "a child raised without a father is five times more likely to commit crime and be poor, nine-times more likely to drop out of school, and 20 times more likely to end up in jail or prison". The situation is the same. - As we all know, the absence of a father is the single most important cause of poverty. Too bad Nigeria doesn't have a statistics. *For the US, Children living in female-headed families with no spouse present have a poverty rate of 45.8 percent, over four times the rate of children in married-couple families (9.5 percent) 3 Likes |

dvkot: That's surely what will happen. But it pains me because it is a big dent on Wagner PMC and it's going to undermine their positive role in the history and security of Russia. I'm sure when this is over. They'll find a way to get rid of Prigozhin and bring Wagner under the wings of the Ministry of Defense. I think Wagner functions well as an independent entity. 4 Likes |

Procashtips: Isn't it obvious already that it's a coup. The goal is simply to seize government buildings and arrest/detain leaders of the government. I don't know if that will include Putin or Medvedev but I know for sure that he will ask for the arrest and dismissal of Shoigu and Gerasimov. I am more interested in whether the Russian Army/ National Guard will open fire to defend these government buildings. He can't be on the road to the Capital. Putin would just have to order a strike to take him out and the insurrection will be over. I'm sure he is in a bunker in the Rostov region. I mean, all it would take is a Martyr to put bullets in his head, end the coup and posthumously become Hero of Russia if he is foolish enough to expose himself and be on the road to Russia. See the case of Turkey in 2016. One of the main coup plotters, General Semir Terzi led other officers to takeover the headquarters of the Special Forces. They disarmed the guards and took control of the building. One Army officer walked behind them and gave the General three headshots. Though the army officer was later killed, it meant there was no senior officer to take over the headquarters of the Special Forces and therefore the Special Forces could be used against the coup plotters. It was even caught on video. 1 Like |

dermmy: It has always been the goal. Now they have found a willing collaborator with a large army and lots of ambitions. With the head of Wagner, they can achieve that and also undermine Russian war efforts in Ukraine. That was what Germany did in 1917 with Lenin and it was successful. The difference this time is that the Russian people are firmly behind Putin due to the Russophobic actions of the West in the past year. There has also been no defections to the Wagner side. And unless there are high profile military defections in the coming days, it will end just that like how that of Turkey ended in 2016. With the actions of Prigozhin, it will only end in two ways; In power or in the grave. There are no in-betweens. And if it fails as it likely looks, it will only consolidate Putin in power for the unforseeable future. 6 Likes |

Everything smells like a fiancee who was caught cheating and decided to say she was raped. That was how my then University babe who contracted Gonorrhea from a guy lied that he raped her. I "forgave" her, bleeped her well for the next three years and dumped her ass. Once a cheater, always a cheater. I hope "Mr Peter" learns. If you like, forgive a cheater. Okafor's Law will always come into play. ✓ Entered a room to greet and decided to take alcohol that you claim dull your senses. ✓ Took alcohol with the agreement that a man will take you to your fiance's room to sleep. I thought she was about to leave. Now she is talking about sleeping over after taking the alcohol. ✓ A supposed fiancee started dancing with another man in a locked room. 23 Likes 1 Share |

I have been here for a while now and they only bring their light at midnight between 1,2,3 am and take it before or by 5am. They can decide to flash it for like 5 or 10 minutes at 6:30am. Sometimes you're lucky to have light at 2 or 3pm for two or three hours. Every other time is total blackout. Coming here has been a mistake. A lot of very very bad road and epileptic power supply. Donjazet2: You chose the wrong person to be proud of. First, Obama can be classed as White. I'm sure he himself didn't identify as African cos if he did, he wouldn't as the president of the then greatest country in the world invade the motherland. The same man contributed to the instability in Africa, reduced a once prosperous Libya into ruins, directly and indirectly causing millions of deaths in Africa including in Nigeria by supplying millions of Libya weapons to insurgent groups and terrorists like Boko Haram across Africa. Are we talking about the same man who caused thousands of deaths of your fellow countrymen by sanctioning Nigeria because GEJ refused to legalize the "Alphabet people"? Obama dropped the most bombs of any president in history when not at war. That man killed more civilians than the rulers of the so-called dictator countries. No doubt that the US recognize the rights of its citizens. Do they recognize the rights of those who are not US citizens? We are not Americans so its democracy doesn't concern us when all they do is dropping bombs on those who are not their citizens. I hope you know that the US is currently sponsoring the genocide and forced displacement of Palestinians. Maybe you can start your condemnation from there. China and Russia doesn't go about stoking instability or influencing regime change in Africa. The US is only interested in war, instability, regime change. China has the most investments in Africa. And we are talking about Trains, infrastructure, airports and not Military bases like the other country I won't mention. Finally, no one is calling for the annihilation of the US. We are supporting Russia and China because they are helping to checkmate a bully. Syria survives as a country because of Russia. Now Just imagine that there is nothing standing in their way. And as it seems, Ukraine is readily available to provide a fodder for NATO and Russia itself is not providing any clear deterrence. I'm pro-Putin and while I do not know Russia's military strategies, it's concerning that so many supposed red lines have been crossed without any action other than releasing statements and firing a few missiles into Kiev. At the beginning of the SMO, everyone was scared to provide Ukraine with offensive weapons. Ukraine has now been given weapons that constituted the "red lines" at the beginning of the SMO. Ukraine has been given tanks, medium and longe range missiles that have been used to attack inside Russia. There is also the attack on the Crimea bridge that the West and everybody else thought constituted a clear red line that might cause nuclear response, there is the attack on the Kremlin, the numerous high-profile assassinations inside Russia and today a commitment for Jets including F-16s. At this point, I'm tempted to ask if Russia has any red lines at all. 3 Likes |
