I feel its for the best, basic medicine science would include basic knowledge of all three musketeers, Biochem, Anatomy and physiology... throwing an anatomist, physiologist or biochemist into a clinical scene could be catastrophic[in the Nigerian scene]. I feel NUC was tryna copy the american curriculum, without considering the level of knowledge a basic medical science graduate would have acquired.

Even in American system, they do basic med science for two years before proceeding to clinical for two years. Note that their clinical facilities are optimal for learning unlike nigeria where everyone's out to get you. The older medical professionals need to be nicer and more approachable

Dude i think that's the whole essence of asking the patients questions upon entering the hospital, the patient gives you a lead to follow, which gives you a possible diagnosis before tests are ran... Truth is, there are tons of possible causes of a stomach ache, unless the patient points you towards a direction, you'd be spinning in circles

Lol sorry, I just felt they would have a better say as they on the inside, sorry for my over sight. But before tests come back, differential diagnosis can be gotten so some form of treatment can start? Atleast to make the patient more comfortable before proper treatment can start.
Also patients lie in history and physical exam, I know I have lied once or twice

1). Right now, a DE student starts from year 2 and undergoes five year training. But there is a new curriculum, if mdcn accepts, DE students will start from year 4 and undergo four year training.
2). Yes, it's possible to apply through both. That's what I'm doing.

As to number one, that clause applies to those who have bSc in basic med science, we Zoologists would have to start from year two and use 6 years

Thanks man, I went to the admin office today and I was told it wud be accepted once I meet the required minimum grade which is upper credit
And issues concerning the transcript and certificate will come up once the direct entry candidate is shortlisted for screening

I'm a 300 pharmacology student at unilag,will be graduating next year by God's grace..although im still very much interesting in studying medicine....here are my plans tho..
Firstly; im.thinking of applying tru.direct.entry back into unilag,meaning I will be taking a direct entry form next year...but my problem is i'm really not sure if my transcript will out during next year's application...nd direct entry into Unilag is highly competitive nd d quota of admission is very low...
Secondly; i'm thinking of getting a MCAT form ..but I dont ve a profound knowledge about this exam and also scholarship oppoturnities for international medical students in the states...i will so much love it if dis plan works out tho
Lastly;i'm thinking of getting a jamb form next year..well this plan tends to be the easiest and most feasible way of getting into medical schl..but the number of years involved cannot be ignored...even some friends advised I continue in my current field of study till the paramount level than having to start all over again...but medicine is my dream and I will never feel whole if I don't achieve it.......please house,kindly help and advise me..thanks.

I feel if medicine is your dream, chase it, try every means (legal) possible, both DE to your school or other schools, for you to consider MCATS you should be loaded, you can also try Caribbeans, Ukraine, Philippines, China etc and or Jamb. As for MCAT to the best of my knowledge, I feel you would need some time to prepare for the exams, so you would need to be there to attend some premed catch up classe. I am not too knowledgeable on it, check American Association of medical students website you should see something helpful there.

I would like to beg to disagree, I think it all boils down to the students. I just dislike the mental abuse metted out to students during clinical. They are supposed to be taught in love not in fear.

2. do different "medical schools" write the same MBBS ? i mean the same question... or at least of the same standard??

3. if the answer to the "no.2" above is "NO" ...aw do we test the quality of the doctors a particular med. school is churning out

1) done by school but I guess there is some external supervision as in viva
2)if you are asking if it's like a standardised test like jamb, No. They have different questions, the school sets the questions so questions differ.
3)cant really say much but by their works you shall know them. However for a school to be accredited by mdcn it means they have satisfied the requirements needed to train doctors, it's then left for the student to be the best he/she can be
It's just my opinion, to the best of my knowledge

unfortunately, anatomy (especially gross) doesn't deserve much attention (but deserves attention).. learning the code u are gone with your 50.. reading Keith moore with netters or Grant's to me is enough.. I believe one should read his atlas periodically then one is good to go.. writing answers straight to the point following a synopsis ..if is adult female breast(intro, body (describing nipple, lactiferous duct..e.t.c), blood supply, lymphatic drainage, clinical correlates).. shikena

Am considering investing in flash cards and plenty of white large papers for pathways... would that work?

Unfortunately our system is teaching students to cram.(we nid to cram). questions should be clinically oriented and linked to basics of anatomy.. a problem solving approach should be introduced...

I support that, I wish medschool in nigeria could make the questions more clinical such as if a man reports with pain so so so what nerve could be affected etc. As it's done in US. Then again our system seems archaic.. increasing years in school.

Yes oo... God will continue to keep my husband, my mother, my mother in law and my siblings. Cos once ai start, the burden will be on them, for the next 7years(Ai heard medicine is now seven years). Or 4yrs(through direct entry)

Oyah unna well-done finished cutting person heart. Nothing dey happen God dey sha cause my own case will be different. On the issue of 1st degree DE doing badly as correctly said, the problem is usually distractions. Then again, the work one puts into his/her studies is what masters, it's better to go in with the mindset of "I know nothing", and put in effort to knowing. Studying, asking for explanations when stuck, etc. Not like it's easy but it's doable, it's all personal choice

What we were told is that those who come with this particular impression of her's are the ones who don't make it because they feel they already know what is being taught. I didn't want to be the 1st to call her out. Thank God others did. Pls we don't need sentiments when giving advice and try to get your facts right.

Don't say things you aren't sure of. Having a first degree doesn't guarantee that 1st and second mb will be a walkover for u. I've seen cases where degree holders with 2.1 didn't even make it past first mb. Be sensitive about the info you give out. Thanks.

It's not out yet, it comes out along with the putme form. Last year it was 2500 tho, hope u gotten the form from jamb?
