Few weeks ago, a survey surfaced, listing countries with most unfaithful wives in the world. To the chagrin of Nigerian women, the survey conducted by condom manufacturer, Durex, had them topping the list and beating 35 other countries, including Western countries, sampled in the marital infidelity test. Controversy has since continued to trail that judgement, with Nigerian women crying foul. This outcry is understandable though, as these are women popularly reputed for their solemn reverence for religion, more than their counterparts in any part of the world. “We have more Nigerian women that are faithful to their marriages than other nations. Ours can be attributed to various factors like religion, which has become the standard for most of us, and then tradition. “Despite our exposure and enlightenment, a typical Nigerian woman still holds firm to the dictates of tradition, either of her background or that of her husband’s. That aside, our men are even too egocentric to allow their wives that liberty. A man can kill any woman suspected of infidelity, whether true or not. It’s seen as a slap on the man’s face and not an emotional slip,” Rosemary Duamlong, an entrepreneur and mother of two argued firmly in defence of Nigerian women when presented with the outcome of Durex’s survey. The survey claims that regardless of marital status, sexual orientation, or a committed relationship, Nigerian women still in the real sense tend to be unfaithful, giving a 62% prevalence of unfaithfulness, with Thailand following. Admitting though that some women could be extremely unfaithful, some male folks debunked the percentage put forward by the survey. “I have been married for 20 years and my wife has not cheated on me. In every way, she has been very faithful even despite my unfaithfulness,” a middle-aged Nigerian who simply identified himself as Monye said. Another man said of his wife: “While we were still dating, I could say she kept other men, but as soon as she became certain that I was serious about her, she personally dropped them and has since then been more than faithful to me.” Nigeria is not a society where adultery is treated with impunity, unlike places like Britain where married couples jointly patronize so-called ‘Elite Sex Clubs’ where they have sex with other men and women. Here, family values are cherished and women who cheat do so mostly in secret. Hence, it remains a puzzle how the country managed to top the list of unfaithful wives. “Nigerian women are generally family-centred and conscious of society approval. Only a few would therefore risk rubbishing the integrity of their families, especially that of their children, for a moment of pleasure. Our society is yet to liberate women to the level of equal rights with men. Thus, no Nigerian woman will be applauded for cheating on her husband socially. To this end, the stigma it attracts is a deterrent. Besides, what a man can do and get away with in Nigeria, a woman cannot try it and get away and this includes being unfaithful in marriage,” said a lady who’s been married for nine years. “We’ve had instances where women commit adultery with no sense of secrecy but the percentage cannot be said to be as high as claimed by Durex’s survey. We’ve also had women getting pregnant for other men in their husband’s house but yet, the percentage is minute, compared to what obtains in other countries. If Durex’s claims were true, why do most Nigerian men in diaspora come back home to Nigeria to pick a wife? If you ask them, they will tell you our women are more faithful in marriage than their counterparts abroad. They have lived both in Nigeria and abroad but still prefer our women. Funny enough, foreigners are not exempted in this search for Nigerian wives. Just last year, a friend’s daughter had an Italian coming to seek her hand in marriage. They both met in Italy but this young man in his early thirties came down here with this girl to marry her traditionally and legally. I learned the man had vowed not to marry from his country because of the high rate of infidelity amongst their women,” argued another woman in her fifties. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/01/nigerian-women-unfaithful-wives-world/#sthash.wYtA1fhu.dpuf

Its a short story but that's the first chapter. I will try and submit the next by tuesday but your comments are really needed. Not just view but comment. I always wanted to write and this is my first. I had this story for over 2 years now and I made it sci-fi because I wanted to do something really different. Like I said, I am open to constructive criticism. |
The walk to their quarters was long and terrifying. Akira could barely see. She could only see the faint light on the pathway and she could barely see above her knee and she couldn't see the face of those around her. Apart from the darkness, the place had a irritating smell. She hated the smell. It was that of dead bodies and she felt she was the only one that could sense it. The place was poorly kept and she could hear from afar people screaming for either fear or death. The Krains were known for torturing prisoners and their cruelty, their culture was truly alien to life on Terra. Only five decade ago the Krains came down from the stars and inhabited the dark lands of Terrra. They had grew in number and the other Lords had grown suspicious of them. Rumors had circulated that the Krains would capture and eat the flesh off Terrans that walked into the dark worlds and grind their bones as powders for the women. But standing in front of Akira was a Krain who was clothed with darkness and all she could make up was it's curvy and long shadow falling on the ground. They reached a dead end and all of a sudden the wall opened and Lord Ki-Wa and his entourage are ushered into the dark room. ''Here Lord Ki-Wa. Do enjoy your little time on our dark world, the gathering will start when the sun sets tonight",said the frail as it dissapears into the darkness. ''My Lord we have never had a gathering held after the sunsets, I do not trust Lord Savage'', said Councillor Ega, one who always insists on traditions. "The dark world smells of death. Darkness everywhere" another Councillor replied. "All thesame, more reason for us to be done here on time",replied Lord Ki-Wa."Akira, we have no much time left, get ready" "Yes father", replied Akira who was already stricken with fear to speak much. In no time they were done, the sun was setting above the dark land. Another Krain appears, this time alone and asks for the Huntu delegates to come with him. They follow, like lamb to the slaughter. They walked in fear. Darkness still covered the pathway, but from afar, they could see light coming from a hall. They couldn't wait to get there but the Krain moved so slow Akira felt like pushing him. Finally they got there but the Krain stayed in the dark and pointed the room to them. "The gathering begins soon Lord Ki-Wa'' said the Krain as he walks away. They are taken by two guards into the hall to a place lavishly decorated where the councillors sits. On the Lord Keeper's chair is Lord Savage, the Krain Lord, flanked by Krain guards and fear burning from him. The other two Lords was Lord Amin, Keeper of the Tutsin realm and his delegates and Lord Gad Al-Affi, keeper of the Golden realm. They all can't trust the Krain but what choice do they have, the Bantus had refused to host the gathering unless the Krain leaves Terra. Lord Savage after letting reality sink into the other Lords, the Krain dancers comes out and performs a dance that was more terrifying than it was entertaining. Lord Savages takes the stage and suddenly, darkness falls over the hall.... |
Hello nairalanders. This is the first time I am putting this story down which began as an idea. I also wish that no aspect of the story be copied for any purpose. I will be posting every three(3) days because it will be written in several episode. Its a fictional story with a large sci-fi concept but I hope you all like it. The names will be African and the culture African. Pls enjoy, I am open to constructive criticism. EPISODE 1: Into the dark world. Akira Ki-Wa was racing into the Mother-Hub, struggling hard to breathe in her heavy costume. Racing across the decorated halls, she could see the look on her father's face and it was quite difficult to read. She had just passed her 20th star and was now "worthy" to join in the 100th gathering of the keepers of the 7 realms, only that 4 keepers were attending out of 7. She never fancied a meeting were irrelevant matters about organizing troops or exchange of IMMADI were discussed for days. Akira was a herald. The daughter of Lord Musa Ki-Wa, keeper of the Huntu Realm. Raised by her father who is now worn out by years of endless campaign trying to prevent the entire realm from slipping into anarchy, her only joy was riding across the green lands of the Huntu realm into the golden sun. But those days are now gone. She is now a lady. Her duty was to partake in fierce diplomacy and someday be the Lord and Keeper of the Huntu realm. She had been a loner, father's only bond with dear Akira was telling her stories of 'THE FALL' and how the Huntus had gained control of the largest IMMADI port. "Akira! Hurry! No more time for foolish behaviors!" Yelled Lord Musa who was flanked by guards and councilors. "Sorry my Lord" Akira replied. Lord Musa never joked with time but honest. He had not always been like that though. Once a carefree Writer and madly in love with Kambilli, his entire world was changed when the Nomads attacked the Huntu realm and it was his ability to raise an army out of mere air-riders and farmers to defend the realm and won the heart of the councilors. Years later, he was elected keeper. But it all came at a price. Aboard the mother-hub which was set to carry over 20 councilors and the Keeper for the 100th gathering of the keepers, Akira never was comfortable. She remembered the dreams she had 3 days before of the sun falling on TERRA and the entire planet disappearing out of the stars. "Father, I do not believe this year's gathering should be attended" said Akira to her father who was sitting by her side. "Hush little girl! Our very existence and future depends on this gathering. The IMMADI is becoming unstable and the Lords no longer abide by the sacred acts of our fathers"replied Musa "But father only 4 Lord are going to be there, the Nomads continue their campaign to penetrate the Lands and the Bantus have left the gathering..." "Those are what will be addressed little one, the Nomads are outcast, the Bantus claim Lord Savage...." "Lord Savage cannot be trusted father, you said so yourself and yet we will be guest under his house and hold the gathering with him as Keeper of the Lords? His sight alone...." "Someday you too will keep a realm and then know how to trust your enemy. Lord Savage is a Krain, because he looks different from us and his people are different from us means nothing. He has provided a thousand ships to rebuild the IMMADI ports and soon the gathering will regain it's honor. Terra will become united again my child". "Father...." "No more child. Pay attention to little details in the gathering. No mare air-riding. You will someday represent the realm and protect the millions at home. Akira we are safe. Lord Savage knows about the sacred act of ensuring your guest are safe with you. Be good Akira!", commanded Lord Musa who suddenly left his daughter's presence to join the councilors. The mother-hub had reached it's destination in light speed. They were now in the Hinterlands. The hinterlands was ruled by Lord Savage, the councilors were no more and now the hinterlands now manufacturers of battleships and all sorts of terrifying weapons. Lord Savage was a Krain. Covered with scaly skin and bald all through. They needed carbon to breathe but the laws of Terra and life on Terra forbids it. Carbon could kill all life on Terra. As the ship landed and Lord Musa alongside his terrified daughter and councilors step foot on ground, a long dark figure emerge from the darkness ahead, they could see 3 terrifying figures accompanying him in the dark, the hinterlands was a dark realm, the only light appearing came from the mother-hub. Akira felt in her heart that truly something more lied within the darkness that was the Hinterlands. "Welcome Lord Ki-Wa, the darkness welcomes you..."while he bow his head with a sinister smile on his face. As the mother ship is guided to a parking space all that was left around Akira was a dark world and a figure which gave no hope...... To be continued..... Pls people, I will continue tomorrow, it is really short and I apologize but I will post more tomorrow. Good night ![]() |
It really is not the type of change I expected on nairaland. A FP topic could have over 30 pages but right now u juz see some with only 2-5. That aint ryt. Let the relevant, captivating and educative topic make FRONT PAGE. |
halalMACburger:The MODS should do what needs to be done and not put topics on the FP unnecssarily. RULE 20? Fine it is necessary to respect the MODS but that should not make them bullies on nairaland. |
Fabdedon:I am not saying nairaland is not fun. Its just the rate at which some topic which are not FP worthy are placed there is not cool. Some better remain in the sectiom where there were created. |
I ve been a lover of nairaland, infact I ve even introduced to my sisters, dad and friends. Since I discovered this site in 2008 shortly I became a member but I ve used 3 different account, most of the time because I forgot my password or a problem with my mail, but I always visit nairaland daily either as a guest or with my account but I ve fixed that and this is my permanent account(hopefully). But recently now some really silly topic just appears in front page. The front page used to have really interesting and capturing topic which sometimes make one laugh, was educating, interesting and could make you stay for hours on nairaland. Now out of the front page topics I saw this morning. Only 3 I opened. I am not saying those topics on nairaland are not interesting but they best be left in their sections. I ve always enjoyed nairaland and still do, but the MODS really need to sit up and sort this out. Thanks. |
Nice info. Dear Mods, if this piece doesnt make front page rather than the unnecessary stories that does then nairaland is turning itself into what God knows. Atleast the pic above of 2 unique peeps and d very interesting letter should. Thanks ![]() |

Just when you thought superhero movies were taking it easy after Thanksgiving, Warner Bros. decides to drop a casting bomb or six for its 2016 movie that doesn’t feature Ben Affleck, and Marvel quietly plans an extension to its much-anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron. What tryptophan hangover were you talking about? Here are the highlights of this week’s superhero movie news. SUPER IDEA: Warner Bros. Making a Suicide Pact With Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Jared Leto Ending weeks of speculation, Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday that, yes, almost everyone you’d heard connected with a Suicide Squad role would actually be in the movie. That means that we’ll see Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as the Enchantress, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto as the Joker. You have to admit, that’s a kind of crazy cast list. Why this is super: Didn’t we just say that was a crazy cast list? It’s hard to imagine what the eventual movie will turn out like with all of those actors on the screen together, but we’re looking forward to finding out. Oh, and that’s not the only Suicide Squad piece of news this week… SUPER IDEA: Oprah Winfrey Could Be DC’s Nick Fury Also hidden in Variety’s write-up of the Suicide Squad casting news was this gem: “The studio’s shortlist of actresses being eyed for the role [of Amanda Waller, the major doom behind the Squad itself] includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, and Oprah Winfrey, whom sources say would be WB’s first choice for the part.” Yes, you read that right: Warner Bros. might want Oprah Winfrey to play Amanda Waller. Why this is super: Let’s be real here: This is a piece of genius casting. We’ve all heard rumors that Winfrey, behind the scenes, is more of a badass than her televisual persona would suggest, and here would be a role in which she could take charge and make grown men cry on a regular basis. Not to put Viola Davis or Octavia Spencer down in the slightest—who would? Spencer in particular would make an amazing Waller—but the very idea of Winfrey taking on the role is more exciting than all of the casting announcements of Marvel’s last four movies put together. How can we make this happen? SUPER IDEA: Guillermo del Toro Making His Supernatural DC Superhero Movie It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Guillermo del Toro’s Dark Universe, which brings together supernatural characters from the DC Comics stable including the Demon, Zatanna, and Swamp Thing. When it wasn’t mentioned during Warners’ big DC presentation in October, many assumed the project was dead, but the Pacific Rim director told Forbes that wasn’t the case, and that the script is with the studio even as you read these words. He later confirmed to Collider that the project is intended to be part of Warners’ “shared universe” of DC properties. Why this is super: If you’ve seen any of his movies, it’s self-evident why del Toro developing a project using DC’s supernatural characters is a good thing. Just imagine how great it could look, if nothing else. So, we already know next year’s Fantastic Four movie will remake Doctor Doom from a melodramatic dictator of a small Eastern European country into a “very anti-social programmer” called Victor Domashev, and now it turns out that sources from the movie are describing his look as “Halo’s Master Chief with a Doctor Doom mask and that hooded cape.” Why this is villainy: Look, we’re not claiming the original design was anything more than a suit of armor with a bright green tunic over it, but still: He’s a programmer with a grudge who looks like a videogame character? It’s like you’re not even trying anymore, everyone involved with the Fantastic Four movie. Come on, people. Avengers 2 Is Maybe Still Filming There’s just six months until Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters, and we’ve already seen the first trailer, but apparently Marvel isn’t done with the movie just yet. A report from the Daily Mail newspaper claims that the cast will return for another two weeks of shooting next month, ahead of production beginning on the third and fourth Avengers movies at the end of 2015. Why this is super: Last-minute reshoots are becoming a Marvel Studios tradition, but it’s hard to argue with the quality of the result, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier leading the argument for staying open to the idea. If Joss Whedon and company think that they missed something important after watching a rough assembly (no pun intended, etc.) of the footage to date, who are we to argue? Well, until the movie’s released, of course. Then everyone will argue, because that’s what we do. Marvel Finally Confirms Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange Ending months of speculation about the identity of the Sorcerer Supreme, Marvel Studios announced today that Sherlock Holmes himself—aka Benedict Cumberbatch—would be playing Dr. Stephen Strange in Scott Derrickson’s 2016 adaptation of the magical character. Cumberbatch’s name had been linked to the role for months, although countless others—amongst them, Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto and Tom Hardy—had also been reported as being in the running. Of course, now that we finally have a Strange, it’s time to start thinking about who will play the villain of the piece, and just who that villain will be. Baron Mordo? Dormammu? Maybe even the faux Satan named Mephisto? Why this is super: If nothing else, it’s good to finally have the uncertainty behind us. And, let’s be honest, we’d watch Cumberbatch in almost anything, as Star Trek Into Darkness has already proven. ![]()
