CuteRedd: tnx alot
So investing 100k for a 91day tenor should reap how much judging from today's rate P. S. Kindly pardon my lack of knowledge The rates are not constant, it depends on what you meet at the bank at the moment. And this has to do with the secondary market as the primary market option is only open once in two weeks. The next date being next week Wednesday. I can't quote a rate on 91 day tenure now cos I don't have that info now,but a typical rate for that 91 days could be 14 percent. Your interest @ that 14% will be: 100k times 14/100, then you times what you get by 91/364. Interest = N3500. |

Investnow2017: Not bad, although i saw 18.20% for 352days at First Bank a while ago. How easy do you think it can be getting very close to the last CBN rate at the secondary market? |

Investnow2017: Dear Client/Reader, As analysts widely expected, the apex bank maintained the benchmark interest rate for the Nigerian economy at 14 percent. "In consideration of the headwind confronting the domestic economy and the uncertainty in the global environment, the committee decided by a vote of six to two to retain the MPR (monetary policy rate) at 14 percent," said Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank at the recently concluded 257TH meeting of the Monetary policy committee. The committee assessed the global and domestic economic and financial environments in the first six months of 2017 and the outlook for the rest of the year. The committee noted that the global economy continued to gather momentum in H1 2017, aided by gradual recovery in the emerging markets on the back of a pick-up in global demand and relatively stable commodity prices, coupled with fairly robust domestic demand in the advanced economies although low levels of inflation in advanced economies still continue to trigger uncertainty about their monetary policy. In the domestic economy, it noted the positive effects of improved foreign exchange management on the performance of the manufacturing sector and other economic activities whilst also pointing out the presence of inflationary pressures coupled with the high level of unemployment. Overall, the resolutions of the Monetary Policy Committee are to; · Retain the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 14%
· Retain the CRR at 22.5%
· Retain the Liquidity Ratio at 30%
· Retain the Asymmetric Window at +200 and -500 basis points around the MPR.
Thank you.

freeman67: On your request to liquidate TB investment, your bank or investment house will either sell it to an intending buyer at the secondary market or absorb it if they have the cash at their disposal and willing to buy.
Note that charges is dependent on the financial institution you used. G However, either they decided to charge you or not you will not get your complete cash back again because you already got part of your money as interest upfront depending on the time of liquidation.
Also in your certificate, confirmation or proof of investment for first bank it is written below the charges that " in the event that you have to liquidate your investment prior to maturity date a penal charge will be applied based on the prevalent rediscount rate". For Stanbic it is not usually written but I believe on request you will be notified on the conditions before execution.
Personally I have never liquidated before maturity. I try as best as I can to measure my duration and other need for money before investment. Nice one. But please we will appreciate if anyone can present us the calculations what will apply in a typical scenario where one wishes to pull out money before time, using hypothetical figures, tenor, etc. |

klas: With effect from April 1, 2017, the minimum investment in treasury bill is N50m. The minimum was N10,000 before that date but with the introduction of FGN Saving Bond which has the minimum of N10,000, that of TB was jerked up to encourage the patronage of the bond.
If you are investing below N50m in TB, what the banks are effectively doing for you is to pull your own investment into theirs. That is why you cannot get a winning bid rate above that of your bidding bank rate. Thanks. You made it clearer where the risks belong. |

klas: These conditions are only applicable if your single TB investment is more than N50m (in which case, you buy in your own name through the bank), otherwise your investment forms a part of the bank's portfolio and the cbn doesn't owe you direct obligation in case of bank collapse. Like seriously, is that how it works even with primary market purchase below 50m? |

Investnow2017: Applying the formula, lets assume you invested N1,000,000 for 30days @5%, it goes like this:
1,000,000 x 0.05 × 30 = 1,500,000/365 = N4,109.50
N4,109.50 less 10% Tax = 410.95 =
Total Interest earned for 30days or one month =N3,698
Terrible Well said! |

Fm4real06: Please we need to also let people know about the charges involved if u want to liquidate your treasury bills before maturity date. Although it's not advisible to liquidate b4 maturity but one needs to know the penal charges involved.
I heard part of your interest will be forfeited at a rediscount rate.

junglep: I did my tb on the Primary market which was supposed to be auctioned on the 20th, which is tommorow with first bank. I got a notification today advising I got 18.3% for 364 days. It seems a bit low especially because it was done on the Primary market, also principal amount debited and no interest on the account.
Is this normal? Which bank was it? It depends, but I think you should have gotten better than that though not a bad deal either. I'm aware IBTC gave up to 18.4. |

Fm4real06: I just got 78days for 15%.. is this a good investment from firstbank??
Although i saw 18% for 176days which i could have gone for but i took in consideration of the maturity date that's why i settled for the former.
Plus in i signing the treasury certificate given to me by the bank?
Although i didnt get any credit or debit alert from the bank, but when i checked, the money has been deducted. The rates appear ok. I guess it's primary you went for? |

Dsov2016: If they want to leave let hem leave. What the government said is a step in the right direction. Imagine the number if jobs this could create. This was what I was just discussing with someone few weeks ago, even adverts meant for Nigerian goods and cosumption are being short in foreign countries. Just sit and don't be blinded by your emotions and think, just think of how many jobs can be created. The FG could have made it bad by imposing huge taxes on videos shot abroad Hypocrisy is all they know. Imagine Buhari who vied for 4 times and his APC being in charge after much struggle yet having no clues what to do with the power to change the Nigerian story. They abandon the core things that demand urgent attention and need to be done and get busy chasing such shadows. I wonder what their nice-sounding promises and legacies will look like after they leave power. I wonder if it requires rocket science to see when government is performing. |

CastedDude: Another fresh attack by the Mambilla militia group reportedly happened Wednesday, July 12 (two days ago) at Mbaso in Sardauna Local Government Area, Taraba State. . According to reports, the militia group attacked livestock owned by the Fulanis in the area with machetes - killing some and injuring others in the process..
The government is yet to do any thing tangible to stop this growing menace.

Investnow2017: Poor. Why so low? Always request to see the ranges available in their system. Making the officer in charge a close parley can help him or her to open up and you will be surprised to see better deals in their computer. Anyway size of fund and tenor are a factor kind of.
Always have a range in mind. Like me, for any tenor on the secondary market, anything less than 18% is unacceptable! Boss, you mean even with the tenor, about 83 days? |
