Politics › Ndi-igbo Will No Longer Be Timid – Igbo Congress by missbehave247(op): 7:27pm On Aug 17, 2015*. Modified: 7:51pm On Aug 17, 2015 |
Ndi-Igbo under the auspices of World Igbo Congress in the Diaspora and at home have been urged to attend the annual congress of the group where the state of Ndi-Igbo in Nigeria and a road map on how to internationalise its cause will be discussed.
This, it said, is to the effect that the global community will understand the plight of the race in Nigeria especially in the area of marginalisation.
In a press released made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday, the forum stated that as a determined organisation, they want to ensure that Ndi-Igbo will no longer be timid about demanding and receiving equity and fairness in Nigeria. Therefore, they want to direct Ndi-Igbo to stop allowing other groups to direct their destiny in the country.
According to the organisation, it is their collective responsibility to chart their own cause and work assiduously towards achieving them.
The yearly congress will also assess the impact of the 2015 general elections and map out pathways to future successes. It said Ndigbo have decided that they will not let the outcome of the presidential election undermine their success insisting that their progress will not be determined by whoever is the president of Nigeria.
According to the organisers, the event will take place in September 2015 in the United States. The congress, in a statement, also seeks to pursue unity and protection of Igbo interests within Nigeria and at the same time help to build lasting and enduring bridges of understanding among the Igbo nation especially in the contiguous homeland and other tribes living in their midst.
The release further stated that no tribe in Nigeria has suffered more marginalisation than the Igbo people citing federal government’s reluctance to build a new bridge on the River Niger after promises from three administrations. It also cited the massacre of Igbo people in the northern part of the country and the recent calls by some people for the massacre of Igbo people in Nigeria. It therefore said they will proffer mechanism for achieving Igbo unity where every person of Igbo nationality is held responsible for his/her activities in the advancement of the collective Igbo interests.
It warned of dire sanctions on individuals who bring disunity and disrepute to the Igbo nation. Cc:lalasticlala Source: http://leadership.ng/news/454514/ndi-igbo-will-no-longer-be-timid-igbo-congress |

Crime › Man Owes Blind Landlord 3-years’ Rent, Sets Building Ablaze by missbehave247(op): 10:07am On Aug 14, 2015 |
A tenant has thrown decorum to the wind as he owed his blind landlord three years and six months’ rent after which he set the house ablaze, in Ajegunle area of Lagos State.
LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the tenant, identified as Dominic Udo was owing his blind landlord rent.
The landlord, identified as Richard was said to have reported the matter at the Citizen Mediation Centre, in Amukoko.
Both Udo and Richard were invited to the centre, on August 5, 2015.
On August 7, 2015, Udo was alleged to have put fire on a candle and left. The fire ignited his room in the evening but was put out by residents in the area.
The residents suspected that Udo would have done that based on the fact that the landlord took him to the centre after which he promised to quit the residence.
Richard, who wanted to eject the tenant from the building situated at Young Lane, for his defiant behaviour went to Ajegunle police station and made a report, yesterday.
A resident, Mama Nkiru said, “The tenant had no human sympathy. How could a man, who is a commercial motorcycle rider live in a house for over three years without paying his landlord a dime? It is wickedness. He should be ashamed of himself. We are suspecting that he set the building ablaze himself because the landlord took him to the Citizen Mediation Centre. “

Crime › Crash: Pilots Recovered Dead, Black Boxes Missing by missbehave247(op): 5:07am On Aug 14, 2015*. Modified: 5:24am On Aug 14, 2015 |
The two remaining persons on board the ill-fated Bristow helicopter that crashed into the Lagos lagoon on Wednesday have been recovered.
The victims – the pilots, Captain Joseph Wyatt and First Officer Peter Bello – who were fished out of the lagoon by emergency management agencies and local divers at about 10.30am, had, however, died.
The recovery brought the number of deceased persons to six.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Thursday that the chopper had taken off from an oil rig station in the country for Lagos, but plunged into the lagoon in the Alonge, Oworonshoki area of the state five minutes before the arrival time.
It was also reported that of the 12 passengers, said to be oil workers on board the flight, 10 were recovered on Wednesday with four dead and six sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Michael Akindele, said all the 12 persons that were on board had been accounted for.
He said, “The rescue mission as far as we are concerned has been concluded.”
The South West Director of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Bandele Onibode, said the Accident Investigation Bureau would handle the second phase of the recovery, which involved the wreckage of the helicopter
Black boxes missing –AIB
The Accident Investigation Bureau, the Federal Government agency investigating the fatal air crash involving a chopper belonging to Bristow Helicopters Nigeria Limited, on Thursday said the black boxes of the ill-fated aircraft had yet to be found over 24 hours after the accident.
The black boxes refer to the Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder. The two key safety devices, usually installed in every aircraft, are meant to give indications of the causes of an air accident.
The AIB Commissioner/ Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Felix Abali, said search and rescue efforts made so far by agency’s investigators had yet to produce the two crucial devices.
He, however, said some parts of the wreckage of the Sikorsy S-76C+ chopper found and flight recordings obtained from the Control Tower were already being examined by the agency.
Abali said, “Search and rescue operation had been concluded after which six of the 12 persons on board, including the two crew members, were fatally injured while the six survivors are receiving treatment at a hospital.
“The recovery of the aircraft wreckage, led by Julius Berger Construction Company, is underway. Investigation continues.”
The AIB commissioner also said the passengers manifest would be released in due course, noting that the airline would do so after contacting the air crash victims’ families.
On the information that that the plane was meant to carry only eight passengers instead of 12 that it carried, Abali merely said the plane had “12 souls on board.”
There had also been rumours that the aicraft had been phased out, but the airline could not be reached for immediate response.
Meanwhile, the management of Bristow Helicopters Nigeria Limited confirmed that its pilots were among the victims of the crash.
A statement by the Head, External Communications, Bristow Helicopters, Julie King, read in part, “The Bristow flight crew members that were among the fatalities, comprised Captain Joseph “Jay” Wyatt of Oklahoma, US, and First Officer Peter Bello of Nigeria.
“Captain Wyatt joined Bristow in 2006 and has spent his entire career flying with Bristow Helicopters out of Africa. First Officer Peter Bello joined Bristow in 2014 after graduating from Bristow Academy’s helicopter flight school.”
Local divers tackle rescue agencies
Some local divers, comprising fishermen and commercial boat operators on Thursday accused the emergency agencies of reneging on the promise made to them prior to the rescue of the victims.
They said contrary to a sum of N250,000 the agencies reportedly promised to pay 12 of them who went into the lagoon to recover the victims, they were eventually given N100,000 after the operation.
A fisherman, Tosin Atolagbe, said, “We first rescued six people alive. Later, we brought out four but they were dead. We resumed this morning (Thursday) again and recovered the two corpses left. With all the efforts we made, they gave us N100,000 instead of the N250,000 they promised.”
A boat operator, Adedayo Hassan, said, “We had to go down the water. They (victims) were at the front seat of the helicopter and we had to break the glasses of the helicopter, cut the belts they used before we were able to bring them out.”
Injured victims moved to St. Nicholas Hospital
Six injured victims of the Bristow helicopter crash have been moved to the St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos. A source said the victims were currently being monitored to prevent any complication from their injuries.
The source said, “They brought them (victims) here this morning (Thursday) and they are doing fine. We will observe them for some days to ensure that they did not sustain any internal injury. ”
The hospital official, however, declined to disclose the identity of the victims.
Also, at the Folabi Medical Centre, where two of the injured victims were initially admitted, the Medical Director, Dr. Olajide Afolabi, said they had been discharged.
He said, “Folabi Medical Centre respected their desire to continue the treatment at another hospital. They were discharged at about 11pm Wednesday.”

Crime › Motorcyclists Burnt To Death In Lagos Fire by missbehave247(op): 4:48am On Aug 14, 2015 |
There was panic in the Mile 12 area of Lagos on Wednesday after fire erupted from a passenger’s keg and burnt two motorcyclists to death.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the fire, which started at about 7.30pm, also razed about eight motorcycles in the area.
It was gathered that the victims, identified only as Musa and Sanni, were among several others affected by the inferno at Agilinti bus stop, Mile 12.
Our correspondent learnt that a woman, who boarded a motorcycle, had a keg of fuel with her, which was kept inside a nylon, but the keg reportedly leaked.
The motorcycle was said to have arrived at the Agilinti bus stop, where some traders had lit their lamps.
Fire from one of the lamps was said to have leaped unto the fuel-soaked nylon, leading to a fire outbreak.
PUNCH Metro gathered that no fewer than eight motorcycles at the bus stop were consumed. About five motorcyclists were also said to have been injured, and were taken to hospitals in the area.
Musa and Sanni were said to have died in one of the hospitals.
When our correspondent visited the area on Thursday, one of the motorcyclists, identified simply as Kolawole, said some firefighters later showed up to put out the fire.
He said, “It was at about 8pm. I was at the bus stop. As soon as the motorcycle brought the woman, the fire started. The woman had a keg of fuel in a nylon, which she was taking home. But the keg was leaking, and the nylon was soaked.
“Some traders at the bus stop had lit their local lamps; and as the motorcycle wanted to turn round the junction, the fire started. Two motorcyclists were badly burnt, and they have died in a hospital.
“About eight other motorcycles were razed by the fire. Some firefighters later came to put out the fire.
Those injured have also been rushed to some hospitals where they are being treated.”
A motorist, identified only as Leke, said there was commotion in the area, as shop owners and passersby tried in vain to put out the fire.
He said, “I brought my vehicle to a filling station in the area to buy fuel. There were lots of motorcycles at the bus stop. Suddenly, there was an outburst of fire, and the smoke covered everyone.
“I initially thought it was a tanker fire, as everyone ran helter-skelter. Traders and passersby tried to put out the fire, but it had destroyed about eight motorcycles.”
The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Dr. Rasak Fadipe, confirmed the incident, adding that men of the Ilupeju Fire Station attended to it.
He said, “The fire servicemen from Ilupeju were there. But we do not have a record of any death.
“Seven motorcycles were burnt, and one person was also injured.”
Efforts by our correspondent to see the injured persons were unsuccessful as no one knew the hospitals they were taken to.
Our correspondent gathered that the corpses of the deceased had been deposited in a morgue in the area.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Patricia Amadin, had yet to reply to a text message sent to her phone as of press time.

Culture › Seven-day Curfew Begins After Ooni’s Burial Today by missbehave247(op): 3:07am On Aug 14, 2015 |
A seven-day curfew will begin after the remains of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, must have been buried on Friday, the town’s chiefs have said.
The spokesperson for the chiefs, Chief Dejo Adejobi, told our correspondent on the telephone on Thursday that the restriction of movement for the rites would start from 4pm today and would past for the next seven days.
But asked what the chiefs would do to ensure that the curfew would not affect visitors who would attend the burial, Adejobi said, “I understand you. Yes, we cannot invite people for the burial service and still restrict their movement. But you should understand that the service will start by 10am and the restriction of movement will start from 4:pm.”
Meanwhile, the burial rites which would herald the interment of the late monarch continued on Thursday as town criers from the palace moved round the town to enforce the chiefs’ order.
A resident, who witnessed the scene, Wunmi Adeoye, told our correspondent that the town criers beat their gongs as they moved round, warning residents not to come out tomorrow because movement would be restricted to enable the chiefs to carry out the remaining rites.
The town criers, according to him, warned violators of the order to be ready to face the consequences of their action.
He said, “Around 9.30am some persons from the palace came to Oja Titun and started beating traders and driving away traders. They said the people knew the burial rites still continued but came out to dare them.
“They have shut down the market and they said the rites would continue for seven days.”
Speaking with our correspondent, a resident who said she had visited Itakogun Market to buy somethings, said some palace messengers went round ordering traders to immediately close their shops and vacate the markets in compliance with the order.
At Sabo Market, which is mostly populated by non-indigenes, traders hurriedly closed their shops as the news of the closure order of markets reached the place.
Some residents frown on the way the palace messengers flogged traders and those who crossed their path, saying they palace chiefs ought to have gone to the radio station to inform everybody that markets would be closed for seven days.
The announcement of movement restriction may confusion among those who were invited for the interdenominational service which would be held for the monarch before his remains would be interred at the palace.
The interment, which would take place inside the palace, it was gathered, would only be witnessed by some traditional chiefs. The gates of the Ooni’s place were ajar when our correspondent visited the place on Thursday. This, the chiefs said, was one of the signs that the Ooni had left the world.
Preparations were also in top gear for the burial as workers were seen clearing the bush from Ife Junction to the main gate of the Obafemi Awolowo University on Thursday. Cc:lalasticlala, Ishilove Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/seven-day-curfew-begins-after-oonis-burial-today/

Health › Ebonyi: 40 Die From Cholera by missbehave247(op): 4:36am On Aug 11, 2015*. Modified: 5:00am On Aug 11, 2015 |
No fewer than 40 persons, including secondary school students, from different local government areas of Ebonyi State, have died since the outbreak of cholera in the state in February this year.
Some medical doctors in the state who spoke to LEADERSHIP described cholera as a disease caught from infected water that causes severe diarrhea, vomiting and often causes death.
They attributed the outbreak of the disease to the inability of successive governments in the state to provide the people with potable water.
In April this year, six persons from three communities in the state, Edomia, Amachi and Ikeligu were confirmed dead and eight others were hospitalized following suspected cholera outbreak in the areas.
In an interview with LEADERSHIP, the former state commissioner for health, Dr. Sunday Nwangele, said that medical experts in the state have continued to advice people to maintain personal and environmental hygiene, to keep the disease at bay.
“When the first person died of cholera, the government instructed that the victim should be buried immediately without the usual burial ceremonies, but the people did not obey the directive, and this led to the spread of the disease.
“The people expose whatever food they eat to flies and these flies will perch on them and infect them with diseases such as cholera’’, he said.
Nwangele observed that most residents of the state do not have toilet facilities; forcing them to defecate around their houses, a development which he said had contributed to spread of diseases such as cholera in the state.
He said that during the administration of the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Martin Elechi, 30 houses were sealed for lacked of toilet facilities.
Nwangele advised the people to ensure regular washing of hands with running water, to avoid contracting diseases, as well as to make use of health facilities provided by the government whenever there is an outbreak of any epidemic.
Less than five days after three persons died in Edomia, Amaechi and Ikelegu, another cholera outbreak broke out in the state, which affected 15 students of Girls’ High School, Azuiyiokwu, in the Abakaliki area.
The affected students were hospitalized at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Former Governor Elechi, thereafter, donated cartons of hand sanitizers, oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and other preventive items to control the spread of the disease.
Dr. Nwangele noted that the essence of the donation was to ensure proper care of the affected students and prevent further spread by providing the care-givers and others around them with the hand sanitizers and other preventive items.
Similarly few weeks after, another outbreak was recorded in Abakaliki, Izzi, Ebonyi, Ohaukwu, Ishielu, Ezza North and Ohaozara local government areas.
This time around, ten undergraduates of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU), were affected by the disease out of which one died.
Apparently worried by the spread of the cholera in the state, the immediate past speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon Chukwuma Nwazunku, ordered the state Ministry of Health to declare a state of emergency in the health sector.
The House further compelled the Ministry of Health to provide the necessary drugs to the communities hit by the epidemic, and expressed worry over the outbreak as well as the spread of the disease in the state.
While the state Ministry of Health battled to curtail the spread of the disease, as well as respond to the demands of the House, five more deaths were recorded in the state.
In an interactive session with newsmen, the former state director of Public Health and disease control, who is now the special adviser on Primary Health, Ebonyi North senatorial zone, Dr. Christian Achi, revealed that as at May 2015, 256 persons had been affected by cholera, saying that they were hospitalized in various hospitals in the state.
He said that the disease had spread to seven out of the 13 local government areas in the state. He traced the outbreak of the disease to Amachi community in Abakaliki local government area, adding that the two persons who died following the outbreak of the disease resorted to self-medication, and warned the residents against falling prey to the scourge.
Achi explained that the latest casualties were recorded in Oriuzor Ezza North local government area and Umuogudu Akpu and Umuogudu Oshia in Ohaukwu local government area.
In a bid to assist the state contain the spread of the disease, a team of medical experts from the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, arrived the state on April 22, 2015.
The team which stayed for only two days brought along with them assorted drugs to combat the disease.
That notwithstanding, in May another cholera outbreak was recorded in the state.
While the disease claimed two lives in Ozibo village, Ebonyi local government area of the state, seven others died in four communities of Umuezeoka, Umuezeokaha, Ekka and Ori-uzor, Ezza North local government area.
The state epidemiologist, Dr. Francis Onwe who confirmed the deaths in Ezza North, said that over 20 persons had been hospitalized in a private hospital located in Onueke, Ezza South local government area of the state.
While addressing the people, the head of Health Department, Imoha Development Centre, Ezza North local government area, Sunday Eze decried the poor hygienic condition of the private hospital where the victims were receiving treatment, and directed the occupants to vacate the premises within 48 hours to forestall further outbreak of the disease.
One of the relatives of the deceased, Chidozie Otta, whose mother, Mrs. Margret Otta, was affected by the disease, called on the state government to provide drugs and other relief materials to assist victims of the disease in the area.
Addressing the people during a sensitization programme, a medical practitioner attached to FETHA, Dr. John Nwaeze, advised them to take the issues of their health seriously by washing their hands regularly; drinking safe water and avoid defecating in bushes around their surroundings.
At the end of the event, drugs of various kinds were donated by the member representing Ezza North/Ishielu federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Anayo Nwonu, for the control of the disease.
It was gathered that as at May, the death toll had risen to 42, while the first outbreak of the disease this year was recorded in February.
The acting general manager of Ebonyi Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (EBRUWASA) Mr Sunday Opoke, while speaking with LEADERSHIP on the water situation in the state, stated that over 3,000 water boreholes constructed across the three geo-political zones of the state are currently not functional, noting that the situation has made it difficult for the rural dwellers to access water in the state.
According to him, “the agency recently visited Ndieze-Ndiogbun community in Izzi local government area of the state, one of the affected communities recently ravaged by the cholera outbreak in the state, and discovered that five villages in the community have no boreholes at all.”
He noted that the available bore-holes in other villages were not functioning, as the agency discovered that the boreholes sunk by some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) lacked technical finesse as most of them were not properly supervised; shallow and had poor water quality.
He noted that in its effort to provide potable water to the people, and curb the menace of cholera, the agency repaired some boreholes at Amasiri, Izzi local government area, among others, saying that the agency will soon repair other boreholes at Ezza North, Ezza South councils, among others.
Following the determination of Chief Dave Umahi-led administration to curb the menace of cholera in the state, the commissioner for Environment, Mr. Moses Ogodo-Ali, on assumption of office threatened to prosecute all landlords in the state capital who fail to comply with government directive of providing modern toilet facilities for their tenants.
Mr. Ogodo-Ali, stated that the two weeks ultimatum given to the landlords which elapsed last week still stands, adding that any landlord who fails to comply with the directive will be prosecuted.
The commissioner noted that the directive followed the cholera outbreak in the state, which he said had claimed many lives. He stressed that the decision was to ensure healthy and safe living environment for residents of the state.
“We believe that between now and yesterday, those who do not have their Water Closet System (WCS) in their houses must have completed them because that is the only way people contract cholera and other diseases”, he said.
Several medical experts have called on Governor Umahi led administration to complete the water schemes started by Chief Elechi, as well as to ensure that the cholera scourge in the state is brought under control, if not eradicated.
There is a consensus here that since the state was able to battle guinea worm to a standstill, it would also find a lasting solution to the spread of cholera in the state. Cc:lalasticlala, Ishilove Source: http://leadership.ng/news/453059/ebonyi-40-die-from-cholera

Politics › Senate Forgery Allegation Raises Issue Of Criminality –IG by missbehave247(op): 4:05am On Aug 11, 2015 |
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has defended police investigation into the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Orders 2015.
The police boss defended his action in a preliminary objection opposing a suit filed by the Enugu East senator in the National Assembly, Mr. Gilbert Nnaji, asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to restrain the police and the Attorney-General of the Federation from taking any further step on the allegation.
Nnaji had filed the suit asking the court to stop the police investigation on the grounds that it “is inspired by a devious petition by the Secretary of the Unity Forum Senators, solely aimed at unjustly incriminating the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.”
But the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, the second defendant to the suit, had also filed a similar notice of preliminary objection, asking the court to strike out the suit, which it said ought to have been instituted by Ekweremadu, if truly the police investigation was meant to unjustly incriminate him.
In the preliminary objection filed by the counsel for the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Oloye Torugbene, the police asked the court to strike out the senator’s suit because the plaintiff lacked the legal right to institute the suit.
The police added that the forgery allegation raised “issues of criminality” and “not simply an issue on the floor” of the Senate.
They added that no Nigerian had immunity against investigation and that investigating alleged forgery could not amount to undue interference in the affairs of the Senate.
A counter-affidavit accompanying the preliminary objection and deposed to by an officer in the Legal/ Prosecution Section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja, Joshua Yohanna, stated, “Every Nigerian can be investigated for crime.
There is no immunity against investigation in all civilised countries, Nigeria inclusive.
“Investigating the allegation of forgery can only strengthen the integrity of the Senate and the Senate leadership.”
The police urged the judge to strike out the suit because the plaintiff had not demonstrated that he had “special interest that is beyond that of every other senator.”
They insisted that they had a duty to investigate allegations of crimes and that their “duty will be impeded” if the court granted the prayers sought by the plaintiff.
The counter-affidavit also read, “The first defendant (the Inspector-General of Police) has a duty and responsibility to investigate all allegations of crime; to determine whether allegations of forgery are made out; who committed the said forgery; and if there is a forgery at all, in the first place.
“Investigating the allegations and determining the culpability or otherwise of the alleged culprits will lead to a just conclusion of the matter.
“Non-investigation of the allegations will engender mistrust amongst the disputing sides.
“The matter at hand is not simply an issue on the floor.
“The matter at hand raises issues of criminality.
“The first defendant (the Inspector-General of Police) owes Nigerians the duty to unearth the truth behind the allegations of forgery.”
The police maintained that the IGP had never taken side on the issue and would remain neutral.
“The first defendant is neutral in this matter.
“The first defendant has not taken sides, will not take sides and does not take sides on issues of this nature at all.”

Education › UNILAG Disowns Lecturer Who Raped Admission Seeker by missbehave247(op): 6:41am On Aug 10, 2015 |
Authorities of the University of Lagos on Sunday disowned the randy lecturer, Dr. Akin Baruwa, who reportedly raped an 18-year-old admission seeker.
Baruwa allegedly raped the young girl (name withheld), who is seeking admission to the university, in his office on July 23, 2015.
The lecturer, currently in detention at the Kirikiri Prison, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on Thursday.
But speaking with our correspondent on Sunday, the Head, Information Unit of the university, Mr. Olagoke Oke, said Baruwa was not an employee of the institution.
According to him, no such name exists on the university’s employee list whether teaching or non- teaching.
He added, “The said Dr. Baruwa is a not a member of staff of the university, whether teaching or non-teaching. He also does not belong to the part-time or full-time teaching staff of the school. His name is not on the master list of workers of the university. I have checked the staff list using his full name and initials and could not come up with any such name as of Friday, August 6, 2015.
“I have also checked the list of office accommodation given to members of staff of the university and his name is not there. There is no office allocation attached to such a name. How he reportedly entered the said office where the crime took place is what we are looking into as an institution.
“While we sympathise with the alleged victim, we are ready to cooperate with every agency of government to get to the root of the matter as soon as possible.
As an institution, we do not support any act of violence, not even against women. Therefore, we will help to ensure that the case comes to a logical conclusion.”
Meanwhile, as the authorities disowned the lecturer, some students, in the Faculty of Business Administration, who craved anonymity for fear of victimisation, claimed that the suspect was a part-time lecturer of the accounting department of the university.
One of them said, “I know him as a part-time lecturer in the accounting department. I wonder what the university wants to achieve now by trying to disown him.”
The Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Rasheed Ojikutu, could not be reached as of 6pm on Sunday.
Baruwa, who the police in Lagos arrested on August 3, reportedly confessed to the act but claimed that the sex was by mutual consent. Cc:lalasticlala, ishilove Source: http://www.punchng.com/news/unilag-disowns-lecturer-who-raped-admission-seeker/

Health › Housewife Accuses National Hospital Of Scam by missbehave247(op): 6:22am On Aug 10, 2015 |
A housewife, Mrs. Stella Adepegba, has accused the National Hospital, Abuja, of charging her for a medical procedure for which it had no equipment.
She added that the management of the hospital had refused to refund the N50,000 she paid for the aborted surgical operation.
Adepegba explained that she visited the hospital for a hysteroscopy procedure in May, 2015, and was asked to come for evaluation for two weeks during which she also did some laboratory tests.
She further said that after attending the medical evaluation for two weeks, she was scheduled for the operation on June 25, 2015, by one Dr. Idris.
She said, “On June 25, the day I was booked for the surgical operation, I paid the N50,000 fee and I was directed to the theatre where I waited for the doctors to commence the procedure.
“After some time, a technician who was passing by came to the theatre and asked me the procedure that I was booked for. After I told him, the man expressed surprise, saying the hysteroscopy machine had been bad for over two years and had yet to be repaired.”
According to her, the technician said another patient, who paid for the operation, had been visiting the hospital for the past two years.
“The technician said the woman had been coming to the hospital every month to check if the machine had been repaired,” she added.
Adepegba stated that she demanded a refund of her money, “but the hospital has been playing games with me.”
She explained that she was asked to write a letter for a refund, which she submitted on June 29 with the assurance that the money would be paid to her bank account within three weeks. “Since I submitted the letter, the National Hospital, Abuja, has refused to refund the money. My husband even went to their finance department, and they said they could not find the letter again. He also made a Written complaint to the Chief Medical Director, but the money has not been refunded till date. This made me to conclude that the hospital has been scamming Nigerians by collecting money for medical procedures it lacked the capacity to do,” the mother of one said.
The woman said she had thought that the hospital would be the best in terms of facilities and services, but was disappointed at the lack of professionalism being displayed there.
When contacted, the hospital’s Corporate Communication Officer, Dr. Tayo Haastrup, said he was aware of the matter.
He said, “The finance department has been directed to fast-track the refund of Adepegba’s money.” Cc:lalasticlala, Ishilove Source: http://www.punchng.com/metro-plus/housewife-accuses-national-hospital-of-scam/
