Alh. Atiku Abubakar has come out to condemn the attack on Mr. Sowore and his rearrest while court proceeding was going on.

The former vice president and presidential aspirant wrote "To keep Nigeria a democracy is the paramount duty of all concerned stakeholders. Please speak up against this tyranny and side with the Nigerian people."

This among other tweets he posted on his twitter page.

Mr. Sowore who was released barely 24 hours ago after a court order was rearrested earlier today in court.
The DSS according to report, chased out the presiding judge and then proceeded to arrest Mr. Sowore despite resistance from his lawyers and family members.

H.E Atiku went further to state that "Without the rule of law, there can be no rule at all. Power in Nigeria still flows from the people, not from the barrel of a gun. I call on all men and women of goodwill not to keep quiet or sit on the fence at times like this."

"We cannot have a situation where our government is quick to obey foreign court orders and even quicker to disobey domestic court orders. This is symptomatic of a mindset that is servile to foreign powers and brutal to Nigerians.'

"I further call for all law enforcement agencies in Nigeria to immediately respect not just the court order made by Justice Ojukwu, but the order of any court in Nigeria, on any detainee, be it Omoyele Sowore, Sambo Dasuki or Ibrahim Zakzaky, among others."

PoliticsAPC To Matawalle: Well Done For Stopping The Bogus Pension by MisterGrace(op): 6:22am On Dec 01, 2019
https://i0.wp.com/www.editorialtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Matawelle.jpg?w=660

Governor Matawalle of the Peoples Democratic Party had earlier last week stopped the 10 million naira pension for ex governors of Zamfara state. Other monthly pensions for ex deputy governors and speakers of Zamfara state house of assembly were also cancelled.

Ex governor Yari before he left office, in collaboration with the state house of Assembly passed a bill into law, availing them the opportunity to continually receive bogus pensions for life.

Alhaji Sani Gwamna, the APC Vice Chairman in the Central Senatorial District commended Gov. Matawalle for the bold step to stop the outrageous pensions. He however, stressed that the funds be channeled into opening up rural areas as well as infrastructural development in the state.

Alhaji Gwamna on the happenings in the state, blamed politicians for using security operatives to harass and intimidate their members. He said that they remained law abiding despite the development.

"We are ready to comply with the security personnel, but when they resort to harassing our members, then it is not fair" - he added.

Nigeria's education system encompasses three different sectors: basic education (nine years), post-basic/senior secondary education (three years), and tertiary education (four to six years, depending on the program of study).

According to our findings, different state governments prioritizes education differently. While some took it seriously, others cared less about investing in education.

EDITORIAL TIMES obtained an info-graphic of the 2019 education budget for various states of the federation from the Budget office website in which Oyo, Bayelsa, Rivers and Zamfara states information about their budgets for education weren't sufficient as at time of filing this report.

Sokoto, Yobe and Delta states topped the chart with 25.93%, 24.20% and 23.92% respectively.

Kogi state has the least education budget for 2019 with 0.18%.

A national Stakeholder of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Owelle Rochas Okorocha has reiterated his determination to build a new generation of; "visionary, incorruptible, courageous and creative leaders for Nigeria and Africa as a whole."

He this known when the Forum of Southeast APC House of Assembly Candidates paid him a courtesy visit at his Unity House office, Abuja.

"We have a huge gap in the political leadership of Nigeria, and I have made a commitment to continue to empower the younger generation with the requisite leadership skills and other resources necessary for them to give our country a better leadership after us."

Senator Okorocha heeded to the call for him to continue to have his presence in the east. He urged the group, who are mostly made up of youths to among other things; "avoid the trader mentality which is mostly responsible for the political problems in the Southeast."

In his words; "The APC's performance in the last general elections is regrettable, but we must not be stuck in ruing our losses, but should begin to take steps towards making the Party stronger in the region. President Muhammadu Buhari has made an appeal for Party leaders to ensure that the Party does not die with him, and I can assure you that I will be ready to do my best in ensuring that the Party is revitalized in the Southeast, if the right things are done."

Speaking further, he said; "As young people, you must identify the causes of our present political predicament and make efforts to avoid them. One of such problems is the trader mentality. Sometimes, we tend to approach politics as a cash and carry endeavor, and it isn't correct."

He recommended consistent loyalty to the right ideals, negotiated compromise and diplomacy as necessary qualities which aspiring political leaders must possess or make deliberate efforts to acquire.

Highly regarded as the political leader in the Southeast who has empowered the highest number of young people, Senator Okorocha is also the founder of the Emerging Leaders' Forum, which aims to bridge the political leadership gap in the country.

Speaking earlier, the member representing Bende in the Abia State House of Assembly and Deputy Minority leader of the House, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, thanked the former governor for his vision in bringing the APC to the Southeast and assured him of the unwavering support of the grassroots members of the Party in the entire Southeast.

In her speech, the Secretary of the Forum, Hon. Ngozichi Okorie explained that the Forum consists of about 100 grassroots mobilizers who were flag-beaeers of the Party in the House of Assembly elections in the five Southeast States, out of which about ten of them won their elections.

The delegation also presented the Imo West Senator with a giant greeting card as a token of appreciation for his visionary leadership and mentorship.

PoliticsAPC Asks Security Agencies To Investigate Seyi Makinde’s Role In Kogi Election by MisterGrace(op): 8:56am On Nov 21, 2019
https://i0.wp.com/www.editorialtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Seyi-Makinde-2-587x367.jpg?fit=587%2C367

In what seemed to be a new twist, the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigeria Police, as well as other security agencies to launch a thorough probe into the roles played by Governor Seyi Makinde before, during and after the last Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Kogi State.

APC stated that this will help to unravel the real culprits of the series of violence which were reported in the exercise.

Recall that Gov. Makinde was attacked in Lokoja the Kogi State capital on the eve of the election by some hoodlums.

The APC made it known that it was seriously worried by the cases of violence reported in parts of Kogi on the course of determining who would govern the Confluence State in the next four years.

Makinde should also be investigated by the EFCC over the government money spent on the ill-fated project, the APC said.

The party in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday said, “As reactions follow allegations ad counter allegations of election violence sponsorship among political gladiators in Kogi state over the conduct of the last Saturday gubernatorial and Kogi West Senatorial re-run elections, we stand to condemn every act osaf violence, incitement and vote buying which might have been recorded. The fact remains that no life of any individual is worth the votes being sought at polls by politicians.

“In the case of Kogi, among those to be investigated is Gov. Seyi Makinde who was on a desperate mission to influence the emergence of the PDP candidates in persons of Sen. Dino Melaye and Mr. Musa Wada. The Oyo state governor’s clandestine hatchet job in Kogi was blown few hours to the polls when a team of security agents had to burst into a hide out where some disgruntled elements had gathered to plan evil ahead of the elections.

“Immediately this happened, Gov. Makinde raised the alarm that he was attacked in a hotel. The same governor commissioned his media handlers, he deliberately left in Ibadan, to twist the story and thus mislead the public. The truth of the matter is that he (Makinde) was the one who assembled vote buyers, miscreants and other shady characters for the purpose of giving out briefs and incentive to all those contracted for some evil plots. Sources have it that the exercise later took place in another location where cash running into billions of naira, taken from Oyo State treasury, was doled out.

“This was to be corroborated by the innocent revelation made by a popular socialite who has always been on hand as a mercenary to the PDP in the South West since the days of Aregbesola vs Oyinlola imbroglio in the State of Osun. The video clip of the mindless confession which apparently indicted Gov. Makinde is currently available on virtually all social media platforms.

“Without mincing words, keen watchers have come to realize that Makinde’s political history cannot be said to be free from damning evidence of violence sponsorship, financial inducements and propaganda. Back home, he is now in a dilemma as to how to fulfill all the promises made to a known criminal element and his army of urchins who he used to hijack the mandate which he is enjoying at the moment”.

Editorial Times | Lagos

https://i0.wp.com/www.editorialtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Male-contraceptive.jpg?fit=618%2C410

The Indian Council of Medical Research, a government-funded biomedical research agency, has successfully completed a clinical trial on an inject-able male contraceptive, the Hindustan Times reported.

Dr. R.S. Sharma, senior scientist with ICMR, told the local news outlet that “The product is ready, with only regulatory approvals pending [from the government],” “The trials are over, including extended, Phase 3 clinical trials for which 303 candidates were recruited with a 97.3% success rate and no reported side effects. The product can safely be called the world’s first male contraceptive.”

The birth control method, is expected to last approximately 13 years and involves injecting a polymer, called styrene maleic anhydride into the vas deferens, effectively blocking sperm from leaving the testicles. The shot, preceded by a dose of local anesthesia, is designed to supplant a traditional vasectomy. There is no indication whether injected men will still be able to enjoy sex as the sperms will be blocked from leaving the testicles.

Similary, researchers in the US have developed a similar contraceptive, called Vasalgel, which has not yet been brought to market. A male birth control pill also exists, though researchers anticipate it’ll be about 10 years before the drug makes it to market. Also, drugs such as these can only prevent pregnancy, and do not protect against STDs.

“The polymer was developed by Professor S.K. Guha from the Indian Institute of Technology in the 1970s. ICMR has been researching on it to turn it into a product for mass use since 1984, and the final product is ready after exhaustive trials,” said Sharma. Researchers call this reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance.

Drugs Controller General of India V.G. Somani said, because of pending regulatory approval, it “will still take about six to seven months … before the product can be manufactured,” they told Hindustan Times.

In the meantime, Vice asked several Indian men if they were open to the idea of a shot in the groin to prevent pregnancy. Many agreed that more options would be a boon for men and women, though many weren’t keen on needling their nether regions.

“When I think about this whole concept of contraception that you have to inject … it’s too graphic,” said 33-year-old Abhay. “Our [testicles] are like family jewels, so if I have to resort to using any kind of contraceptive, I’d rather go for a pill.”

Shreyes, 24, liked the idea of a male contraceptive because women are “already burdened enough,” but he thinks an injection may be too much for men, adding that he’d “rather not have sex at all” in that case.

“Men are not too used to making changes in their routine, so it has to be marketed in a way that doesn’t seem so intense or difficult,” he said.
