Christianity EtcChristianity And Polygamy by MisterMan(op): 6:24pm On Sep 11, 2007
The popular believe is that christianity does not allow polygamy. Is it really so? Let's take a quick look at men of old. Abraham, Jacob, David etc. They all have more than one wife. If God were against it, he would have told Abraham straight trhat he was against it. To me, you can take as many as you can adequately take care of. What the bible is against is injustice. Here is what Deut 21:15 say: if a man have two wives , This tect shows that it is OK to have more than one wife. However, you must do justice. Read this through vs 17.

I know a lot of people will be saying: But that is old testamant. So what? Even, if you read 1 Tim 3 1-8, Apostle Paul was particular about those aspiring to the office of bishop and that of deacon. To my own understanding, it is only the clergy class and deacons that are disallowed from having more than one wife. What do you think? Peace
Christianity EtcDeath Entered Thru Sin Really? by MisterMan(op): 6:12pm On Sep 11, 2007
We were made to believe that we die because of the sin committed by Adam and Eve. The popular thinking is that had Adam and Eve not sinned, we would have lived forever. But is that really so? The curse concerning Adam is in Gen. 3 17-19. Note that it was only Adam that God did not curse directly. He cursed the land (read vs 17 very well). It was the effect of the curse on Adam that God was talking about. What God was saying is that Adam would continue to work hard till he die. The task of Adam was supposed to be a pleasant one (2:15).

2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and keep it.

Now after the disobedience, it was hard work: thorns, thistles, weed, pests etc. Let me quote part 17 to 19 of chapter 3

17 , cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 In the sweet of thy face shall thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return

The operative word here is 'till'. Here is what Oxford Advanced Learner say: up to the time when. To paraphrase that sentence, we can say: you will continue to work hard until you die. You will not rest until you die.

What does all these mean. If they had not eaten the fruit, our mothers will not experience birth pains. Farming would have been very easy and pleasant. Why did God chase the miserable pair away? Read Gen 3: 22 & 23. So what do you think? Peace

azenothony:
I want u to understand one thing,God did not say the serpent will exactly feed on dust,and we all know that the serpent always stick out its tongue therefore using it to gather dust,sand etc into its mouth thereby feeding on them.
This is what is in my bible: ', and dust shalt thou eat ALL (emphasis mine) the days of thy life.

If that is correct, then goats, sheep etc are also eating dust
Christianity EtcBirth Pains. Why? by MisterMan(op): 5:42pm On Sep 11, 2007
Why do female animals experience birth pains? It is understandable why our mothers have birth pains because of what happened in the garden of Eden years ago. But why should the curse also go to the female animals? Afterall they did not eat the forbidden fruit neither do they encourage our mother to eat it. They were not like gods, knowing good from evil but they pertook in the curse. What do you think?

Christianity EtcBirth Pains. Why For Female Animals? by MisterMan(op): 2:57pm On Sep 10, 2007
I wonder. Why does female animals experience birth pains? It is understandable why our mothers have birth pains because of what happened years ago in the garden of Eden. The question is why should the curse also go to the female animals? After all, they did not eat the fruit that was forbidden.  What do you think?

IDINRETE:
Misterman kindly clarify these points please:

3:04 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall surely not die:

1. did the serpent speak unto the woman in Hebrew?
I don't know if he spoke in Hebrew. Really, I don't know why the question. I have just posted a related thread (I had prepared it b4 I even read this).  I think the title of the thread is Death entered thru sin. Really?

2. was the serpent walking upright before the lord god cursed it?

I wasn't there so I don't know if it was walking upright. However, since God cursed it that it would be crawling, one can deduce that it was not crawling before then. Crawling is really no big deal. MMillipedeand centipede do that. Remember that God said that the serpent will eat dust. I was taught in O Level Biology that Serpents are carnivorous animals. Serpents DO NOT eat dust
Christianity EtcWho Is Economical With The Truth? by MisterMan(op): 3:46pm On Sep 07, 2007
3:04 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall surely not die:

3:05 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

3:06 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.

3:07 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew they were naked, and they sewed fig trees together, and made themselves aprons.

3:08 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

3:09 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.

3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

3:12 And the man said, The woman thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

3:13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

3:14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel

3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake, in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

3:22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever

I am sure you know that the above is Gen. 3: 4-21, quoted verbatim, except for the emphasis which is mine. ls it fair to punish the serpent for saying the truth? God did not even ask the serpent for its own side. He just pronounced guilty verdict. At least, He asked both Adam and Eve. God did confirm the truth when he said his statement in vs. 22. Let us be objective: Why should God punish the serpent for saying the truth. They died not because they eat the fruit. Even if they have not eaten the fruit, they would still have died. What do u think?
ProgrammingRe: IT gurus,Please !!! by MisterMan(m): 11:55am On Sep 04, 2007
IT is a very wide field as somebody suggested. I don't know much about DBA. I saw some interesting threads: Database Administrator on Nairaland. Read that. It will give you great insight on that. From what I read and what I know, it seems u are better off being a programmer. At least, there will be more demand for a programmer than a DBA.
Now, here is what u said
iyke199:
Sorry, i didn't tell u. i already knew Qbasic and VB 6.0, MS word and excel. I will not lie. Dats all i knew about computer and IT.
U know next to nothing. Don't ever tell anybody that u know Qbasic. They will laugh at you. No employer will ask u for your knowledge of Word or Excel. That is assumed unless you are saying u know how to program MS-Word and MS-Excel. If u know VB6, continue on to VB.net and C#.net. Also try and learn how to develop website. Sites are becoming very popular. Even on your own, you can earn decent living developing websites. Read some threads in Webdeveloper to have a feel of what I am talking about. Cheer and best of luck

Kay, I think Afam is right. And to say "Up yours Afam! Now will u bloody well mind your own business if u're not interested", that is quite rude of u. This should be a place 4 gentlemen, not 'Agberos' (tout).  He made a very good statement that what if 200 pple called? How do u handle that? He is just trying to help u out. To ask pple to call u! Do u know how much that is going to cost somebody. And no guarantee that something +ve will come out. In the era of per second billing? Or will u want to do night call? It is better to IM and then you can get to the next stage. For u to really appreciate how useful his comment is, how many pple have called u?
