this is what u call involvement! obviously a political vendetta. why will a bank fold up because of one account? cmon im sure ekiti can do better than all this nonsense ive been seeing lately. the place is waay to small to be causing soo much trouble! *rolls eyes*
Yeah, just a bank account will surely NOT cause a bank to fold up, however, an account of that magnitude in a rural setting like Agbado means a lot. Agbado is NOT Lagos, remember that. Moreover, give people an inch, they will take a yard. Who knows the kind of thing the Chairman will bring up next time

how are u sure, many others dont have similar projects they are handling. d fact that u did not join in puts you in a position where you should not have raised the dust.
sure, not all abokis with cobbling tools can fix your shoe.
some will create more havoc.

Neways, i didnt take it personal.
I have been around for long to know some things. I have interacted with so many programmers to know what is on ground. Compare the number of programmers we have and with the number of software and you know what I am talking about. Mind you, I am not just blaming our programmers. The environment is simply killing.

I laugh with this your comment: , d fact that u did not join in puts you in a position where you should not have raised the dust. '' What dust did I raise, if I may ask?. The original poster was unduely attacked and I gave an opinion that supported his claim. Does that mean raising dust?

rexyjay:
When you start a serious coding session and then NEPA casts a shadow over your project, it's then you begin to understand that it's the system that principally makes us all seem silly aside many other factors militating against effective application development. You can imagine that Computer science lecturers are still teaching students archaic programming languages as Pascal and Fortran in this age when we're supposed to be catching up with PHP & MySQL, Java, ASP, and so forth.
That is exactly what I am saying. I should know because That is what I do and I live in Nigeria. Would you believe that for the past few weeks, light has been so eratic? Internet access is so expensive that it is prohibitive. In the town where I live, it is not only expensive, but very unreliable. It is very frustrating paying for internet access and not getting your money's worth. At least for some people, it is expensive, but then they get their money's worth. How about paying and not getting the service?

I am into software development and I know what the situation is. If we are innovative enough and the environment is OK, we should be exporting software to other countries in Africa.
We have many problems. It starts with the lecturers. How many of them know about modern languages. All they do is to teach Quick Basic and Basica in the new age. The truth is that some of them are ignorant.

Why should we be bothered if there is Bill Clinton or charles taylor, all we need is truly honest people, if your name is Bill Clinton and you have an ID go ahead and vote, what we should call for is for INEC to have a thumbprinting recognising software so that when you register as Bill Clinton, if you register again as Barack Obama the computer recognises your thumbprint as Bill clinton and disqualifies u with a flag for your thumbprint the moment you show up at a polling booth, once u place your thumbprint the alert will come up on the screen, all that the electoral officer can do is advice u to kindly leave or hands you over to security agents.
Why shouldn't we be bothered if there is Bill Clinton or Charles taylor? I do understand that English is NOT your mother tongue, but even a JSS3 student would have known what I am saying. All what I am saying is that there are ghost voters. I take it that you are NOT in JSS. I could have mentioned Doe Joe or Ikechukwu Kano. These are non-existent people.

", all we need is truly honest people , ". But the truth is that we don't have honest people around. Do you know how many elections were upturned. What happened in Edo, Ekiti, Ondo etc. By stealing those machines, ghost voters will creep in. It is that simple.

i disagree.
if you are good at what you do, you sure wont have much time for stuffs. we are responsible for how we spend our time and since we own our time, we are free to decide how we spend it, we are not multithreaded.
I hope you are not taking my comment as personal. I agree with you that you (not just you, but everybody) have a right to decide what they do with their time. Do you realise that thousands of people are equally good at what they do and still contribute to writing SMF (the board that Seun is using), countless of people are contributing codes to other great software. Check out SourceForge and you will realise what I am saying.

To butress your point further that people are entittled to spending their time as they deem fit, I did not sign up for the code I mentioned. Why? I have a similar project that I was handling at the time. How will I be able to do it without a conflict of interest? The honourable and the right thing to do then was to withdraw. The truth is that it is not everybody that has a a project that conflicted with Kobojunkie's initiated project.

The truth is that a lot of our so called programmers cannot and do not code. That is the truth. Cheers and good bye

These machines are not for the election proper, they are for voters registration, so, the thieving thief may find it hard to use.
You are indeed very naive. Rigging is NOT only done on election day only. When some things (I can't remember those things and which were not supposed to be in his house) were found, what do you think he was up to? Rigging starts with voters registration. Don't be surprised when you see Bill Clinton or Prince Charles on the voter list. Those who stole it know what they are doing. Of course, they stole it not because they want to resell it. It is NOT edible as well

Why are Nigerian programmers so smart? They are so smart that all they ever do is to develop:
1. Banking software (Which our banks will never use. Can you trust a Nigerian with money? take Yahoo Yahoo as a case study. The Nigerian programmer might probably put in a back orfice into the program to enable him siphon money from the bank anytime he wishes). Why would i use a crappy Nigerian software, when there are excellent banking software made in India?
2. Human Resource Managers : this is almost same as the above
3. Hospitality software: same as the above
4. Social networking sites and forums like "dollarland.com"
5. The list is endless

Lets try the be innovative.

P.S: NOW LET THE PERSONAL ATTACKS BEGIN
The guy is saying the truth. Why the personal attack? He absolutely has a right to his own views. People do NOT need to be this insulting.
Some body claimed to have written some software and another developed some sites. Great. How many programmers are in Nigeria? If 1 or 2 programmers have done that, how about others? All people (programmers) are interested in is to work in banks. Agreed, we have so many issues with working environment: light, internet access etc. The truth is a lot of programmers are lazy. It starts from school. Teachers themselves are ignorant of mordern trends. People go to other schools are copy projects. When somebody cannot write a simple 'Hello World' code, how do you expect those people to turn out great codes.

I remember sometimes ago Kobojunkie came out with a beautiful project. How many signed up? What became of the project. Do you want to hear the truth? Nigerian programmers are lazy.

SportsRe: Adeboye Predicts Brighter Days For Nigerian Sports ! by MisterMan(m): 4:09pm On Nov 08, 2010
wales:
The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A Adeboye, has predicted better days for sports in the country.

Adeboye, who was speaking at the special thanksgiving/prayer service for Nigerian sports held at the headquarters of the church on Redemption Way, Ebute Meta, Lagos, relived the good old days when Nigeria was first among equals in the comity of sporting nations but rued her steady decline in the past few years.

“Once upon a time, Nigeria was a leading nation in sports, I remember a time when we used to have world boxing champions from this country, when we had one of the best footballers in the world; in the person of Thunder Balogun. But now, our team which was originally called Super Eagles is now being called Super Chickens by some people. I know if we cry unto God to intervene, things will change for the better and the glory of the country will be restored,” he said.
I have to re-read all over where the prediction is. The man talked about the good old days. You were never around when Thunder Balogun was playing. By the way she spoke, she might still be a baby or not even yet in this world when Jerry Okorodudu won a medal in boxing. So tell me what the man's crime when he said we should pray to God. The Man reads his bible very well. There are instances in the bible when the children of God were overwhelmed by foes. Battles that they were NOT supposed to win were won because they prayed. So if a man of God asks people to pray, what has made him to be criminal.
Bye and God bless
SportsRe: Adeboye Predicts Brighter Days For Nigerian Sports ! by MisterMan(m): 4:01pm On Nov 08, 2010
I am shocked by the way some people talked. Before I continue, confession time. I am a proud member of Redeemed Christian Church of Christ. I am going tospeak, NOT as a RCCG member, but as an African. We give respect to elders. If Tudor were to say the kind of things she said to a respected muslim cleric, my reaction will still be the same. Tudor, you shouldn't have commented the way you did. I want to believe that you are from a good home. Will your parents be proud of you to see these your posts. Properly-bred people don't comment the way you did.
By the way, where is the prediction there? Somebody used the word Adeboye Predicts Brighter Days For Nigerian Sports ! Another person was still comparing what Adeboye said with Paul. No there is NO prediction here. Remember, as a man of God, what will you expect him to say. Of course, he will say we should pray, fast and hold on to God. Another person will say we should hire a foreign coach and so on and so forth.
To be this abusive is throwing decorum to the winds. Let us make Nairaland a great place by giving great and objective view. We should not be this abusive, LEARN TO RESPECT ELDERS. Bye and God bless

that is not an excuse to be shylock. nuyagem is spending money on emails too and yet he's giving out for free. think about it.
Shylock? So because I am charging some amount for my efforts you call me a shylock? Hey, common, you need to watch the kind of words/language you use. So because somebody offers his program for free and I am asking a small fee, then that turns me to be a shylock. Nairaland is suppose to be for mature mind. The original poster is free to get that software. Afterall it is FREE. If the table were to be turned, I will surely NOT call you a shylock. Honestly, I feel offended, but then I take it as one of those things.

I dey holla all my fellow naija country men ooooooo, However, i have been coming to this programming discussion forum for quite sometime now and read about people who claim to be professional and guru's in programming. But if you take a closer look, you will notice that no concrete program or even a web application has been created by those who suggest in their chosen "user name" to be Java chief, rude python and what have you. what i am trying to ask in essence is where is the innovative spirit amongst our people that have degree's in the computer and information technology field like you see from other countries especially the recent emerging developing countries? Just trying to access most Nigerian universities website is a shame and many are of poor quality that even a kindergaten website in an organised country is far more sophisticated, what are those doing in the departments of CS in Naija?

Does anyone have an explanation? I would like to know. In the meantime my kudos to the guys wey develop Nairaland, peace out and one love.
This is unfortunate but true. Agreed, there are so many problems bedevilling us in Nigeria, but the blunt truth is that we are NOT innovative enough. It is NOT enough for Logik to think because he has been able to create some impressivie packages, the same applies to others. Most of our so-called gurus are nothing to write about. Take for instance, a lady programmer who resides in UK (KoboJunkie) came up with an impressive project. What happened to it? It is still-born. I wanted to be part of the project, but then I have issues with internet connection, and more importantly, I was working on something similar to that. All our programmers made a loty of noise, but nothing came out of it. Apart from the programs written by Lojik and a few other ones, nothing is happening in software arena in Nigeria. Most of our us we make noise. How many programmers can list the jobs they have carried out here. So if a programmer or two out of 2,000 is/are outstanding, can we say we have arrioved? Not at all. Agreed, our environment is challenging.
Take for example, I have some programs up my sleeve. I have completed one almost two years ago, but to implement it is tough. I need to upload the program unto my server, but the internet connection is very slow. To even get a rookie programmer is tough. Hence, I am forced to wear so many hearts at the same time: Programmer, web developer, marketing executive. To even proof-read what I am writing is tough. Light may go off anytime. I still have managable connection. I have to quickly upload despite that it may be riddled with mistakes because if I don't, the connection may become slow or yanked away.
Yes we have challenges, but our programmers are not worth the salt. Is it their fault? Not really. Let me give you an insight. Our lecturers are not doing enough. When I was still in Kano, I went to BUK. I went to one of their classes. If you see the kind of programs their lecturer was teaching. You will see that the logic was faulty. In fact the students were correcting the lecturer. Please, don't get me wrong. I am NOT saying the lecturers in the North are inferior to their counterpacts in the South. In fact, you will come across graduates who cannot write the simplest of programs. When I aws in Kano, one corper was looking for where to do PP. He came in: Ican teach MS-Word, Excel, blah blah blah.
OK, I said. I gave him the keyboard. I gave him an assignment. He could not do it.
The truth is: We are not innovative enough. The average Computer Science graduate wants to work in banks. Period
Then, the lecturers are not doing enough

Like most people have said, I find it extremely difficult to understand your question. If a question is not understood, how do we provide answer? Tell us the configuration of your system. However, SMTP comes free with Windows. If you can't get the software to do bulk mailing, you only need to do very simple coding to write the program that does that. If you need assistance along that line, mail me (tianshihotguy@yahoo.com).

Take heart brother. Vs 2010 is more evolutionary than revolutionary. It ain't that bad. Somebody mentioned that it is marketing gimmick. I beg to differ. MS does not just wake up one day with the additions they made. These are requests made by developers. Most of the requests pple make are incorporated in the next release. MS has got to listen to its clients. Though I am yet to use it, the changes are just minor,

I mean you can't compare the changes to VB6 and VB.NET. Likewise, you can't compare the changes made to VB 5/6 with its forebears such as QB or GWBasic. Hardware is getting better and better, and we need changes in software to keep up. That is the downside of our profession. U just need to keep updating yourself. Don't get tired
