What are the causes ?
The main drivers of antibiotic resistance in Nigeria include widespread misuse of antibiotics (72.4% of pharmacies sell without prescriptions), poor health infrastructure, low public awareness (23.8%), and heavy antibiotic use in agriculture (87.4% of poultry farms, pig farming, even fish farming.
What are the impact and effect?
Antibiotic resistance costs Nigeria's economy an estimated 2.4% of GDP, with resistant infections requiring 287% more treatment costs.
Effort by the Government??
Nigeria launched a National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance in 2017, but implementation has been slow, with only 45% of activities completed by 2021
Our Medical Professionals are not even helping the matter to say the least. Someone that’s been infected with a viral infection like catarrh and the likes would be given some antibiotics. These misuse always makes the microorganisms resistance to even the so called Broad Spectrum antibiotics. We really need to get ourselves enlightened so we can save the world and the planet.

You are part of the reason and problems we are having antibiotics resistance lately for some microbes. You don’t just prescribe antibiotics anyhow to individuals without proper diagnosis

It has not been easy time for me as I am tensed

The surgery was scheduled for 3rd of April,2025, she has changed into the hospital's robe , everything is ready however her BP was really high (170 plus).

The Anesthesiologist advised against the surgery due to the high blood pressure and we were referred to see a Cardiologist

After seeing the Cardiologist with her ECG results , there were no anomalies.

However her BP drugs was changed by the Doc.

She is currently on diet to eat more of protein, veggies and fruits while reducing intake of starchy foods

On 22nd if the public holiday did not affect, she will see the doctor again , if the BP is stable , then a new date for the surgery will be fixed

It is down to 149 this evening she checked

For like 72hours

The Progressive Disability Forum, the disability wing of the All Progressive Congress has warned the party against using the disability condition of a former governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, as a basis to disqualify him from the race for the chairmanship of the party.

The National Coordinator of PDF, Abdulaziz Onibare, raised the concern in a letter addressed to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and obtained by journalists in Abuja on Sunday.

According to him, the party would be in contravention of the National Disability Act and its constitution should such move succeed.

The letter reads, “It has come to our notice that some group of people are moving around castigating the person of His Excellency, Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura, questioning his capacity on the basis of his disability. They didn’t question his capacity when he was contributing his millions, time and energy for the progress of the party.”

Onibare added that Al-Makura’s disability should not be a yardstick to measure his competence to lead the party as he has given his dues to the APC and represented the disability community well.

He said as such, the former governor should be given the opportunity to lead APC to a resounding victory as the 2023 elections beckon.

Onibare, who pleaded that its member’s contribution to the party should not be allowed to go in vain, lamented that the leadership of APC had continued to marginalise the PDF as it has never held any tangible position.

We should be given the opportunity to lead this party, and our disability cannot be counted as a barrier. Hence, we felt it a point of duty to emphasise it,” he said.
