The Inspector General Of Police Solomon Arase has warned his officers attached to politicians and other senior citizens in the country to stop performing the function of a domestic staff to them.

Arase Stated this in Jos the Plateau State capital while on a Maiden visit. According to him “you are not domestic staff to politicians and other senior citizens of Nigeria where you have been posted to work.

Stop carrying their bags for them and don’t do any domestic work for them. If they want house helps they should go and employ one. The uniform of the Nigeria Police must be respected. If any Police officer is caught bridging this rule will be penalise”, Arase said.

The Police boss who brought good tidings to his lieutenants in Plateau State said he is most passionate with the plight of his junior officers ranging from the Rank & File to Inspectors, said measures has been put in place to ensure a robust welfare package and retirement benefit, thereby encouraging them not to be corrupt as their future is already secured.

“The President is also passionate about your welfare and is determined to give you all it takes to enable you carry out your duties effectively”, he said.

He however encourage them to step up efforts towards ensuring that crimes in the state is reduced to the barest.

The last four cases of Ebola in Liberia were discharged from a treatment clinic in the capital of Monrovia on Monday, meaning there were no more confirmed carriers of the deadly virus in the West African country.

The group of four, released from the ELWA treatment unit to cheers and applause, were part of new wave of Ebola infections in Margibi County just outside Monrovia discovered in late June.

Two other confirmed cases have since died, including the sister of one of the released patients.

“The (Ebola treatment unit) is not a death camp; you can come here and survive,” said Tolbert Nyenswah, head of Liberia’s Ebola response. “This is what we can demonstrate even if Ebola comes back.”

Medical officials shook the hands of the four survivors from Margibi County, a rural area outside Monrovia, and handed them food and supplies. The youngest, Moses Duo, is just nine years old. “Now that I have survived, I feel fine. I have no pain in my body again,” said Othello Miah, 19.

More than 11,200 people have died from Ebola since an epidemic broke out in December 2013 in neighboring Guinea.

Hundreds of millions of dollars in aid and military assistance from the United States, its long-term ally, helped Liberia control the outbreak and it was declared Ebola-free on May 9. But it reported a new case nearly two months later. The outbreak is still active in Sierra Leone and Guinea.

Health experts have not yet discovered why Ebola resurfaced in Liberia, although genetic tests on the first case in the new wave of infections show it probably remained latent in the country.

Officials think that sexual transmission is the most likely explanation, since the virus can persist in soft tissues of the body such as semen for up to 90 days.

At least 100 contacts who came into contact with the six cases and are at risk of developing symptoms will remain under surveillance into August.

“There is still a lot to do. We need to continue surveillance and keep up standards in healthcare centers,” Nicoletta Bellio, the Medicins Sans Frontieres head of mission for Liberia, said by telephone. Officials said last week they were tracking a herbalist who treated the 17-year-old boy who sparked the new cases and fled to Nimba County.

A country is not declared Ebola-free until 42 days have passed with no new cases.

Illarramendi made his name at Real Sociedad but has struggled to make an impact at Madrid since joining the club in 2013, with the 25-year-old managing to make just 10 league starts last season.

It appears his first team chances aren’t much better under new boss Rafa Benitez as the Metrosay Illarramendi has been told he is free to leave this summer and a move to England could now be on the cards.

The newspaper is citing reports coming out of Spain that claim Liverpool have stepped-up their interest in the midfielder after tabling a formal €20m offer – which equates to around £14m.

There has been no official response from Madrid as yet but the Metro suggest that the Spanish giants are likely to accept the Merseysider’s offer as it will allow them to recoup the majority of the fee they paid Sociedad two years ago.

As with any transfer rumour, we should take things with a pinch of salt until something concrete comes out but I think Illarramendi would be an excellent signing for Liverpool if they could pull it off this summer.

He was outstanding for Scoeidad before moving to the Bernabeu and he just hasn’t been given the chance to show his best form in a Madrid shirt due to the competition he’s faced for a first team place.

The Spanish international is a deep-lying playmaker who would be able to dictate the tempo of Liverpool’s play from in front of the back-four and I don’t think there’s any doubt he’d be an upgrade on the likes of Joe Allen.



We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but if Illarramendi does end up moving to Anfield he’ll become Brendan Rodgers’ seventh signing of the summer as the Reds boss tries to build a squad capable of breaking back in to the top four next year.

Chelsea are leading the chase for Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez, who has accepted that his future lies away from the Nou Camp following the arrival of Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid.

​Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has undergone a medical with Turkish club Fenerbahce and has agreed to join on a three-year contract, according to various reports.

​Sky Sports announced that a deal between the two clubs had been struck on Wednesday night, after Fenerbahce director Guiliano Terraneo recently travelled to London recently to discuss the deal. Van Persie had already agreed to the transfer after his wife Bouchra had approved the move, and he will reportedly pocket £200,000-a-week over the course the contract – which has the option for an additional fourth year.

The ​Guardian, meanwhile, report that United will receive £4.7m for the 31-year-old – who wants to ensure he plays first team football next season given Euro 2016 is around the corner.

Italian journalist ​Gianluca Di Marzio revealed on Thursday morning that the player himself was undergoing a medical with Fenerbahce in London, and it is believed the move could even be officially announced by Fenerbahce before the weekend. It would be their second signing from United within the space of a week – given Nani has joined for £4.25m.

Steven Gerrard has blasted Raheem Sterling for his behaviour in this interview with the BBC from LA.

The new LA Galaxy player had to hold back, and his anger with Sterling was manifest when he said he was ‘very disappointed’ with Sterling calling in sick and missing training, and now sees Sterling’s exit from the club this summer as an inevitability.

Gerrard then implicitly criticized Sterling for his utter lack of professioalism by contrasting him to new captain Jordan Henderson – ‘a loyal winner and a professional’.

Gerrard also vouched for Henderson to be a great Liverpool skipper, and hopes to see him lifting a trophy in the near future.

The young Nigerian is part of the Gunners squad to Asia for their pre-season tour where they will face Stoke City, Everton and a Singapore XI

Youngster Alex Iwobi has been named in the Arsenalsquad for the Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore.

The lad would travel with the Gunners as they prepare to face Everton, Stoke City and a Singapore XI.

The club announced its 27-man squad for the trip on Thursday and it included another Nigerian Chuba Akpom.

Captain of the Arsenal U21 side, Iwobi, 19, was born in Lagos but has appeared for the English national youth sides.

His nationality switch to Nigeria was not completed when was invited to the U23 squad in February but he watched from the stands as Samson Siasia’s Dream Team VI defeated Gabon 4-1 in an All African Games qualifier in Libreville.

It shouldn’t be long before he makes his first team debut for the Gunners.


“The ambition is to break into the Arsenal first team plans and fulfil my ambition of playing at the top level on a regular basis,” Iwobi told BBC Sport in a previous interview.

“The main thing for me is to keep working hard as I still have a long way to get to the top.”

Other youngsters included in the trip are Gedion Zelalem, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Chris Willock.

Calamity was on Monday night averted when an Emirates aircraft, Boeing 777-200, with over 300 passengers onboard had a ground collision with a plane parked at the apron wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.

The incident occurred at around 9:30pm when the aircraft was taxing to the take-off point for departure from the country to Dubai.

The wing of the Emirates aircraft, with the flight number EK782 Lagos to Dubai, brushed the tail of an Hak Air aircraft.

The Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, which confirmed the incident, said it had commenced investigation to unravel the cause of the incident.

The checked-in passengers were thereafter evacuated from the aircraft while the management of the airline commenced damage assessment of both planes.

A source who witnessed the incident confided in Daily Times that the Hak Air aircraft had substantial damage to its tail.

The source told our correspondent that the incident might have occurred due to the fact that the international runway, 18Left had safety issue as at the time of the incident and that the runway was not properly lit.

As a result of the safety issue, all international aircraft were directed to the local runway, 18Right for take-off.

Another source told our correspondent that a portion of the taxiway was already on Notice To Airmen, NOTAM, which means that aircraft were not allowed to operate to that portion of the runway, which the pilot of the aircraft allegedly ignored.

As at the time of filing this report, the aircraft was still parked at the tarmac of the airport while the passengers were yet to be transported out of the country.

Confirming the incident on phone with our correspondent, the Regional Manager, Emirates West Africa, Mr. Manoj Nair said that it occurred when the aircraft was taxiing for departure.

Nair said: “The right hand wingtip of our aircraft came into contact with the tail of a stationary aircraft, Boeing 737 of a local carrier named Hak Air.”

He emphasized that no injuries to passengers or crew, but the aircraft remained on ground while all passengers and crew were transferred back to the terminal.

Also, AIB in a statement by its Head, Public Affairs, Mr. Tunji Oketunbi stated that the investigator had promptly deployed a team of investigators to determine the circumstances surrounding the serious incident with a view to making possible safety recommendations.

Manchester United have made a substantial £25 million offer for Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera as they prepare for the exit of David de Gea, according to the Daily Star.

With de Gea in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and expected to join Real Madrid either this summer of next, Louis van Gaal is keen to wrap up a deal for his replacement.

Adding to the fuel that de Gea will be on his way to the Spanish capital this summer, the agent of Iker Casillas has confirmed to ESPN that the Real Madrid legend is close to joining FC Porto.

United have been linked with a whole host of replacement goalkeepers for their 2014-15 Player of the Season, and the Daily Star are now citing reports coming from Turkish newspaper Vatan that claim the Red Devils have their eyes set on Galatasaray’s shot stopper Fernando Muslera.

The report even claims that United have submitted a mega £25 million bid for the Uruguayan number one’s service.

Muslera has been with the Turkish giants for the past four years following his big-money from Lazio. He is an excellent shot stopper, flexible, but also comes up with a couple of clangers each season. A £25 million bid at the age of 29 seems excessive.

The Uruguayan has 66 caps for his national team and has been their number one at each of the past two World Cups.

However, even if these reports are accurate, United’s mega offer may still be rejected as the president of the Turkish champions, Dursun Özbek has been quoted recently by the Daily Star,saying Galatasaray will refuse to sell their goalkeeper:



“MUSLERA IS LOVED BY ALL GALATASARAY FANS. WE WILL NOT SELL HIM TO ANY CLUB. GALATASARAY IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S BIGGEST CLUBS.”

Of course, they would be mad to reject such an offer, but should United fail in their attempt to sign Muslera, they are also strongly linked with Hugo Lloris or Asmir Begović as alternative options – two goalkeepers who have already proved themselves in the Premier League.

Manchester United winger Nani has completed a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce, the Barclays Premier League club have announced.

Portugal international Nani leaves Old Trafford permanently after spending last season on loan with former club Sporting Lisbon.

The 28-year-old underwent a medical in Istanbul at the weekend ahead of the move worth a reported £4.25m.

Nani won four Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League after joining United in 2007 and scored 41 goals in 230 appearances.


He signed a five-year contract in 2013 but then began to fall out of favour and returned to Sporting as part of the deal that took Marcos Rojo in the opposite direction last summer.

He could be back at Old Trafford as early as next month with Fenerbahce potential Champions League qualifying opponents for United.

Steven Gerrard has taken just three days to get his hands on a trophy after moving to Los Angeles.

The Liverpool legend is acclimatising to his new surroundings in the United States after leaving England to join Major League Soccer franchise LA Galaxy.

Gerrard, who has been pictured out and about with team-mate Robbie Keane, took to Instagram to show off his latest prize – an Oscar.

He said: ‘Day 3 in LA and I get a OSCAR in my hands thanks to the late Mr Lew Wasserman . Respect.’

Wasserman was a world-famous talent agent and studio executive, who was given the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1973 by Sir Alfred Hitchcock.

Gerrard has signed an 18-month contract with the MLS side but can’t officially make his debut until the American transfer windows open on July 8.

A delegation of nine elders from Bayelsa State who came on behalf of the Bayelsa Consultative Forum, BCF, has announced plans to dump the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Led by Senator John Kofo Brambaifa in their Tuesday’s visit to the APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Timi Frank, the elders noted that they were ready to join forces with the APC-led federal government to help address challenges facing the country.

While vowing that the APC would defeat PDP in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, Brambaifa express the belief of the group that Bayelsa State under the PDP administration was currently drifting; saying the administration of the state had become a one-man affair being controlled by an emperor.



According to him, “Bayelsa has become one man state, controlled by an emperor-like leadership. We have sampled opinion and the result is no to emperor leadership in the state.

“We held our inaugural meeting on the 8th of this month and the people of the state have resolved that the second term ambition of the current government in the state must not be allowed to succeed.

“That we want to join the APC and they must come in their number to Bayelsa State to receive us to send a signal to the emperor that we have been properly received,” he stated.

The leader of the delegation assured that the forum is ready to team up with the APC as soon as plans were concluded with the national leaders of the party.



He explained that their coming to Abuja was to see the national leadership of APC and all the prominent members from Bayelsa State, stressing that whenever the political history of the state would be written, the visit to Frank would not be forgotten.

In his response, Frank advised the PDP leaders not to waste time any longer trying to join the APC at the state level.



He assured that the national leaders of APC would appreciate them and be willing to receive them anytime they deem fit to join the party.

Manchester United are attempting to sell Robin van Persie this summer without telling the striker.



That’s the extraordinary claim made by his former Netherlands team-mate Pierre van Hooijdonk, who revealed that he has “received information” that United are actively seeking to sell Van Persie.

The 31-year-old striker has just one year remaining on his current contract and his future at Old Trafford has already been thrown into question with suggestions that he could leave the club as part of manager Louis van Gaal’s restructuring of his squad.



With Turkish side Fenerbahce believed to be interested in Van Persie, the prospect of the former Arsenal captain wearing the red of United next season appears in the balance, and Van Hooijdonk has added fuel to the flames by claiming the club have already mounted plans to sell him this summer without informing the player himself.

“As early as January of this year, I received information from Turkey about Robin and Fenerbahce,” said Van Hooijdonk in hisVoetbal International column. “The minute this information came, you knew that United had sent people to test the water for a move.

“Agents and others were searching for big clubs who are prepared to pay the high fee involved for Van Persie. Robin’s contract expires next year, so this is the moment when United can still get money for him.”

Juventus managing director, Giuseppe Marotta, has revealed that they have turned down a bid of €80 million from Barcelona for Paul Pogba.

Pogba is the subject of interest from big European clubs like Barca, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, but Marotta has insisted that the France international is not for sale.


He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “We received an offer of €80 million but I can affirm that Pogba will not be sold”.



Barcelona, which beat Juventus in last season’s Champions League final, are banned from registering new players until January 2016.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), said that the 30 days so far spent by President Muhammadu Buhari-led government far outweighed the six years spent by his predecessor. This comment was made by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a chat with journalists.

He maintained that the steps taken, so far, by Buhari, within 30 days of the life of his administration, especially in tackling corruption and insecurity,‎ had outpaced the six years’ achievements of the former president,Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. Mohammed also berated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for quoting him out of context, when he said Buhari had out-performed Jonathan in just three weeks.
Reacting to perceived unease on account of the delay by Buhari in the appointment of ministers and principal officers, such as Chief of Staff (COS), Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Mohammed explained that it was caused by the delay of the Jonathan administration in submitting hand-over notes, and what he described as the dynamics of a ruling party handing-over to an opposition party. Pleading, however, with Nigerians for patience, Mohammed said “the President will set-up his team in the shortest possible time.” Said he: “It’s been about one month, since President Buhari assumed office, and I can tell you that there has been motion, and there has been movement, contrary to what is being peddled in some quarters. “The APC, understands and appreciates the concerns of Nigerians as far as the perceived far-from-fast pace of the administration is concerned.
We understand that they repose so much confidence in the party and the government to act quickly to stamp out insecurity, tackle corruption, revive the moribund economy, provide jobs and generally restore hope.
