Why would anyone be offended because you shared a story about your husband getting a job after 4months of searching?

Have we not read many such posts here and nobody got offended?
You need to ask yourself/answer this question.

Also nothing wrong with apologising if you find you are in the wrong like you are right now smiley

Please lets not pretend as if we don't know why the ..''people feelings'' comment was made. like i said i just want to make sure that nobody here will have the impression that the post was removed by the mod.

This has become ridiculous now. You didn't need to make sure of anything, people can read.

did you have to pay a subscription fee?

No I didn't this time. I've done it before when I wanted to actively message recruiters and HR manager's. LinkedIn also usually offers a month free for this (premium) per year. You can try to sign up but then cancel or stop the sign up process. Most likely they will then offer you a month free trial.

But what you really need to do is to set up many job alerts with the specifications/filters you want (eg; product manager, London, full time, remote). You get notified once jobs fulfilling your criteria are posted.

God's blessings won't come and fall at your feet just like that! Pls quit this line of thinking. Faith without good works...God is happy to bless everyone, We however need to show preparedness.
If you don't actually prepare and apply for a job, it will never come to you. This is not a "favour" market. If you want to work in a certain area, then you must put in effort to learn and skill up in that area and actually apply for those jobs.

A D rating will be a big shock to your bills and system. To put it in perspective, majority of mainstream lenders will not approve a BTL mortgage on a property with an EPC rating under C. If the government gets it's way, from 2025, all properties rated D and below will be classed as illegal lets for rental purposes.

So C should be your minimum really.

Got it, thank you. I'll persevere cool

You are not been realistic, its all good to talk the good talk but when you on student visa and needs sponsorship you are facing a different situation.
Job rejections can be demoralising and people keep reading here about landing those job salary jobs but it does not match the reality out there.

Get whatever job that offers you sponsorship, work towards getting ILR then....

Yes people do get those big salary jobs after graduation but there are in minority, majority have to work their way from low -high salary.

My point is...don't waste too much time chasing high profile jobs if you are on student visa and need sponsorship

Nothing wrong with looking for sponsorship at that level, it is great to have a fallback plan. but there is something wrong with making that the sole focus or thinking oneself "unworthy" of the better salary jobs and not making attempts.
And those comment were not made to denigrate, but rather to encourage and motivate.

I’m assuming the prepayment meter is for both gas and electric. Gas is usually cheaper than electricity…most homes use both or just electric.
Ok. Thank you.

cheesy LinkedIn Easy people should gather here, we get meeting, the I use to apply with it ehn also total job didn’t do bad too.
Right! The most important thing is crafting a great CV and cover letter(s)...once that is done, the platforms really make everything easy. Then the few outlier companies where you have to do the traditional application process.

Looks about right to me. £50 top up 5 days ago works out to be about £7.50 a day with £13 remaining. Do you have a traditional or smart prepaid meter? You should receive monthly rebate vouchers as part of the £400 Government Energy Rebate Scheme.

For just gas alone(I assume gas heating too)?

I always thought gas was cheaper than electricity..is my assumption wrong?
With the energy price hikes, should one be looking for electricity or gas heating?

Also house pls advise: is an EPC rating of C or D manageable? I currently live in a B rated and it is really good. But now looking to move and I see some really nice properties but with C and D rating, is the difference that bad?

This is largely because of how we grew up in Nigeria.

Most migrants don’t think big at all. We’re comfortable with the bare minimum. I faced this too until I started pushing for more.

Job requirements are ordinary wishlist. If you’re familiar with at least one requirement, apply away.

Totally agree with job requirements, that has been my experience. Even my current job, thanks to LinkedIn easy apply, here I am cheesy If it wasn't for "easy apply", I probably would not have bothered.

Please i need an advise. I will be coming to the UK in 2023 as a student. I have paid my school fees and will soon start processing my visa. I want to learn a skill before coming by April. Barbing or baking, which would be more beneficial and profitable to a student?

I will be waiting for your reply.

Hi Mimi, someone I know got an offer with a particular trust, band 2 but 10.10£ per hour. He tried to ask for sponsorship but the Hr said they don't sponsor unless his line manager endorses him. He is yet to start the job but his tier 4 visa expires mid next year. He is keen on this job because it's a stone throw to his accommodation and he is not planning on moving anywhere else for now. Any advice regarding sponsorship?

Cc rayralph, everyone with any pointers.

Thank you
Someone on tier 4 should really be aspiring for more, band 2 is not great start for a post grad degree holder. He should not have a closed mind to the other many opportunities out there.

I was just mooting the idea but I think one can subtly mention it (resident in the UK ....but not including the sharecode )in the objective section of CV or what you think?

It has never occurred to me before, leave it out totally, and this is not because you are hiding anything, it just isn't part of what should be on a CV.
Just like putting age, address, nationality, marital status etc..these things can cause an un/intentional bias which can be negative or positive. (you can also play it to favour you like
putting your UK location)

Lol that’s automatic disqualification. Also @ bigtt76 , Never give them your share code. Unless it’s asked for at the due diligence stage.

Exactly, it just raises questions unnecessarily and you are likely to get passed over.

Nawa. Plenty wahala for this Waka

No wahala there o.

If they don't ask, don't mention until late stage or offer even.
While it may be disappointing for you if they then refuse, interview experiences are needed to hone your skills for future interviews, so it isn't a complete waste of time.

Really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
I changed jobs 3ce last year within the NHS with the 1st job starting in January and the 4th one in December - the 1st 3 were with the same Trust and department at 3 different bands while the 4th was with a different one at 1 band lower. Got 2 other offers and about 9 interview invites within the same week that I got the offer from the new Trust.

My manager at the new Trust told me that she didn't see me in the role after the 1st year because she felt that with my skills, I'd either be aiming higher or getting headhunted for other roles. By March this year (3 months at the new Trust), I had an unconditional offer 2 bands up from my previous Trust. At the same time, I also had another offer from my current Trust but in a different department. My current manager and I have discussed my prospects for other roles and I'm currently exploring training and 7.5-14-hour secondment opportunities in different departments with my manager's approval.

Once you know what you want, map out a plan for it. My manager knew all about my moves and was quite supportive but not all managers will be like that so you need to weigh your options on keeping or not keeping your manager in the loop.
You don't need an excuse to leave a job but ensure that you don't burn your bridges as you might need to drive over them again. I'd also say that you need to weigh your options vis-a-vis work visa sponsorship. If you go for a work-visa sponsorship, you might not be able to change jobs as many times as you want except you go for a scale-up visa.

I'm liking this. This is a strategy I recently decided to adopt - I mean the job changing.
I am naturally very "loyal" and also not necessarily motivated by money, I have taken pay cuts to be in a role that I prefered... If I enjoy my work and I like the culture and I'm respected, then I can stay put for a long while in one company.

Recently I got a new manager at work and the dude who at the point knew little about the work/product started questioning my work and made some very unjustified disparaging remarks...I was quite shocked. I always put in my best and never in my whole life has my output been unsatisfactory. I just imagined that this human can wake up and give me a bad performance review and I'll be asked to leave., this is how they will stain my white .. undecided

That weekend, I edited my CV (and kept updating/tweaking it almost weekly ) and started some courses I had been procrastinating. Within a month I had a number of interviews scheduled and accepted an offer (Lesson here for me is that once you have that UK experience you lacked initially, you will become more appealing in the market, so for those saying sponsorship limits you to one employer...I say only if you let it)

Also I quietly quit - I never take my laptop home again....I used to come in up to 30mins before official time and stay late to finish up sometimes....now I walk in like other ppl by 9 or 9.15 sef and 4.50pm I pack my bag...no time tongue
I have never called in sick...I plan to be sick next week or upper, afterall everyone is coughing amd sneezing lipsrsealed

I realised that I achieved a lot in 6 weeks because I was angry, now I want that to be my default status - always "angry" and looking for the next best thing and putting needs first.

If I may ask, why did you move to a lower band?

How? Someone on student visa has few few options though

I doubt it would make sense to finish the interview process and then get rejected at the end when it comes up
Nope.

You should make them want you enough to then agree to sponsor. And you can only get that opportunity during interview.

Absolutely.

I'm interested in reading your serial job change story. grin

I'd like to think I'm a serial job changer as well. An employer once saw my CV and called me "a rolling stone" during the interview. He said he knew I'd leave them soon. Three months down the line I left. cool

Exploring new territories and roles is always exciting.

3 months!! Baba!
So will you put that short stint on your CV?

Good people, I am currently on a student visa, my visa is expiring in Jan. I got a job with a care home that promised to sponsor when I finished school.
I finished school in September and informed them, they told me they applied for more COS allocation from home office as they have exhausted what they had but haven't heard back from them, one week ran into 10weeks, they feedback was still the same ....they haven't heard back from home office.

Then, I got a mail last week from the home to send in all my details so they can apply for my COS, as home office has responded that the application will be considered on case by case basis. It's been 9 days since I forwarded my details( passport number, full name, status of current visa, date of birth).

1) Please does it look like I will have COS soon?
2) Do you know how long it takes home office to issue cos?
3) Should I relax because I am really worried?
What do you guys make of this story?

My advise is; pretend you don't have an offer and keep hunting for other jobs. There are lots of other/better opportunities out there, so keep trying while waiting.

Read the conditions of your visa again but this time slowly. It clearly states the type of jobs(additional) that you are allowed to take.
Pls advise...
Can one take on additional hours with sponsoring employer but in a different role which isn't on the shortage list?

so tired abeg

Don't let it discourage you, it is the same for most ppl initially, it just takes one positive response to change the entire story.
So keep going at it, there are many employers who will sponsor without issues.

Now that I have completed my msc course, what should I do on the council tax payment.Though my wife has been paying it during the period I was a student.Should I call council to inform them so they can remove the discount and I can now share payment with wifey or what should be my best cause of action.thanks in adv
The council will usually have your course end date and will bill accordingly.
However your wife should have been exempted as well in the first place...

Hello everyone,

Is there a deadline to when one can apply for pswp?
If dependant got sponsorship that was later withdrawn, can main applicant still go back to apply for pswp?
Deadline is the day your student visa expires. So if it has already expired, you can't apply again.

I have a question, does Home office allow working extra hours for your sponsor in another job category which is not on the shortage list?

I have read through the conditions and this isn't expressly stated or forbidden...
