Bestlyf: @MK82, Is it good to have a fiction under the same author name as your non fiction books? What would be the effect on sales? Or would you rather advice the fiction be under a different pen name. Thanks.
Happy Easter. Use a different pen mane. One person (author) is not expected to be an expert in everything. There is no limit to the number of pen names you can have. |

EroticDesigner: Kudos to you all. May your good deeds repay you a hundred fold. Prof. Mk82,sarahn, G12, bestlyf, twosquare. You guys have done a great job.
And I need your assistance. I want to know your experiences with using KDP select advertising.
The pros and cons of it. Also are there merits of pre-orders?
Also has any one ever been paid by Draft2digital? I would want to hear your experiences with this.
Thank you in advance.
P.s I sell 3d box set templates useful for books in a series. Send me a message on fiverr with your Nl moniker in it and get a discount. https://uk.fiverr.com/users/erotic_designer/ 1. I don't use Kdp select adverts. I only do free promotions. 2. Preorders work best for already known authors. It generates a buzz before the release of a book and gives a sales boost when the book is finally released. 3. I don't use draft2digital. I use smashwords since they have better coverage and an older reputation. |

abistar: have uploadd three books on kdp.amazon since last month, but have not generated any sales. what could be the fault? please help me out There are over 3.3 million books on Amazon KDP now. For a book by an unknown author to sell, you have to conduct deep research to find very good keywords and then set promotion for a few days. Sometimes, with the right keywords, you don't even need free promotions to get sales. |

twosquare: @y'all, how effective is KDP Select in your own experience, as per royalties and the likes. Mk82, Sarahn help out. KDP select is very effective and it helps you to get more royalties. Some of my books that have only a few sales compensate by getting several borrows. The recently introduced Kindle Unlimited has really expanded the opportunities for borrows. Free promotions still help to bring in sales for new books as well as some of the old ones. |

Bestlyf: Please, has anyone published on Smashwords? What's the experience like? Mk82, Sarahn, ecommerce, I need your experience on this. Thanks. Smashwords is good. It gives your books exposure to other markets that Amazon does not cover, like iBooks, Barnes & Noble and Kobo. However, you should not expect to make money on the level of Amazon. Amazon is the king of online publishing.I know some people who get about 20% of their income from smashwords. The best thing to do is to pick your books that are no longer getting good sales or borrows on kdp and publish them on smashwords. You have to remove them from KDP select and wait for the current enrollment period to expire. You will have to learn how to format for smashwords. The necessary guides are on their website. Smashwords pays through PayPal and payment is every 3 months. |

Sweetmarriage: Helo op and the rest. I want you to give me information about these two things.
1. Regarding the kdp select program. Let us say some people borrowed your book in the month of January, but your royalties didn't reach the minimium checkout (so you weren't paid for that month). If you are now being paid your royalties in Febuary, will your share of the book borrowed for January be added with your pay?
2. I publish different types of books on amazon. As a Christian writer, i use my name for some of my books, and a pen name for others. Now, if i want to have author page, can i have two different ones (one with my real name, the other with my pen name)? Thanks. The first question has been answered above. A way to know how much you will be paid for borrows is to look through the Kindle Direct Publishing Newsletter that is sent monthly. For the second question, visit the following page http://selfpublishtoday.com/author-central-tutorial/. The tutorial is good. |

myhoodlink: Can anyone please help me write a review to a book on amazon? "diary of a teenage murderer" EDITED
Thanks Hi poster, I will like you to edit this post to remove the part where you offered to pay for reviews. This is an open forum that gets international traffic and this kind of post can get negative attention. A number of people have lost their Kindle publishing accounts by violating Amazon's terms and conditions (I will write a post on that later). You can get people to review your book without offering money. Simply send them a copy of the book and ask for a honest review. Sample: Can anyone please help me write a review to a book on amazon? "diary of a teenage murderer" I can send you a copy so you read it before writing the review. |

G12: na wah o, I priced my book at $2.99 on 70% royalty and my royalty/sale is $1.05.
This is something else o. I don't understand this any more. They normally withhold tax when sending my payment which was not as high as this. I hope they will not withhold another tax when processing my payment. or is there something wrong?
I have been recording a few consistent sales but the bucks has not been adding up? Menh! This one is strong o There are other territories (countries) grouped under the USA. So even if you choose 70% royalty for USA, when your book sells in some of these territories, you can only get 35% royalty. Check out the image I attached.

Couple with the fact say person never dey collect better money for kindle publishing. Biko nu, fellow micro kindle publishers make una put mouth for the matter. Focussing on the UK market is not a good idea. Kindle money is in the USA. The US has 5 times the population of the UK and greater Amazon patronage. My UK income is usually about 10% of what I make in the USA market. Even after tax, the USA market still gives 7 times the UK market. Practice my research method over and over, and you'll soon know how to find simple niches with good sales. |

G12: @Mk82, thanks so much.
I found something I think would be interesting during the course of my research yesterday, but I'm still skeptical about it. It's PUBLISHING PUBLIC DOMAIN CONTENT. Here's what Amazon has to say about it
"the public domain and may refuse public domain content already available through our Program or available through other retail sites.
In order to provide a better customer buying experience, our policy is to not publish undifferentiated versions of public domain titles where a free version is available in our store. We consider works to be differentiated when one or more of the following criteria are met:
• (Translated) - A unique translation • (Annotated) - Contains annotations (unique, hand-crafted additional content including study guides, literary critiques, detailed biographies, or detailed historical context) • (Illustrated) - Includes 10 or more unique illustrations relevant to the book
Books that meet this criteria must include (Translated), (Annotated), or (Illustrated) in the title field".
Have you had any experience with this? Please what's your take on it?
@All, to check monthly search volume for a particular keyword go to www dot merchantwords dot com Stay away from public domain books. |

G12: Merry Christmas house! I pray this coming year will be a better year for us all! Hurray! I am finally in possession of my Payoneer master card, I used the paid shipping option through DHL. No going back on Amazon KDP. Please house, I'm looking forward to outsourcing my writing job because I'll be having a little time for that as it stands now, and I don't want to stop. Imagine having 50 ebooks published. All I want to do now is to keep reinvesting my income form KDP until I have a good number of ebooks on Amazon KDP. Please I need suggestions on how/where to get quality content at minimal rate. Also, Amazon sent me a message to update my tax and address information before 31st, since my details have not changed since the last time, will there be any need? I would have choose to ignore, but I want to know from the house the right thing to do. This is my little investment, I don't want any issue with my account. OP MK82, my Boss, My Leader, My Mentor, may God continue to bless you more abundantly and everyone who has contributed to making this thread a success. Thanks house! For outsourcing at minimal cost, go to odesk.com. You will get writers for small books from $30 upwards. However be ready to do serious proofreading and editing to fine tune the book. Concerning the tax issue, I think the letter is sent to every Kdp publisher. It is a compulsory formality whether your details have changed or not. On 31st, Dec, login to your account, click on your name, click on "update tax information" then go through the process and save. henrimoto: Good day @mk82. When does amazon pay authors their royalties for books borrowed from kdp select? What i have seen on my part are royalties from books paid for. Sales and borrows are paid at the same time. Click on Prior Months' Royalties to download the excel sheet of that month. Anywhere you see KU/KOLL, follow the line to the right. You will see the number of units borrowed and the amount paid. |

Iytech: Hi MK82. Thanks for the great work you've being doing. How do you know if there are celebrity authors in a niche you wanna go into? what exactly qualifies an individual to be regarded as a celebrity author? Seasons greetings to all. Knowing celebrity authors is simple. Check the book description and editorial review. Celebrity authors usually have a popular website, radio/TV show or newspaper/ magazine column. Their books are not selling just because of what they wrote, the sales are influenced by their personality and popularity. |

Bestlyf: Mk82, I just discovered that kindle keeps your book automatically enrolled in Kdp select until you uncheck the selection. Now my question is: whats the upside and/or downside of keeping your books enrolled in kdp select every 3 months? What if I discontinue my enrollment after the first 3 months? When your book is enrolled in KDP select, you have the chance of getting paid for borrows on KU/KOLL which is usually about $2 each. You also have the chance of promoting it again when it stops getting sales (if you still have promotion days left). The only reason for removing your books from KDP select is if you want to publish it on alternative platforms like Smashwords. |

Kdp is still very lucrative and will remain so for many years to come. When I have time, I may give the long answer. Check my post above where I said you have chosen a tough niche. That is a major mistake many people on this thread are making. |

Bestlyf: Mk82, Two days ago I published a book, which sold a copy before I could enrol it on kindle select for promotion. Now, would there be any problem if I enrol it for free promotion after it has begin to record sales? There's nothing that stops you from promoting the book. I've had books that got up to 3 sales or borrows before the day I set for promotion. The only risk is that the buyer may return the book if he sees it on free promo. However, it's better to take the risk of one returned book and promote your book to the 100s and sometimes 1000s of potential buyers that will see it during the promotion. |
