Politics › Re: What Was Jonathan's/pdp Economic Policy by modath(f):
LadyExcellency:
Vision 20-20

PDP took over government in 1999 when Nigeria was 94th highest Economy in the World and left in 26th in 2015.

The vision is realizable within the next five years.

PDP eradicated polio, ICT penetration from 0.2% to over 60%, and a new contributory pension scheme now with trillions of Naira in pension fund

The capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange grew from less than N1 trillion to N12 trillion as at handover.

Jonathan/PDP reduced Poverty by half
Jonathan left 12000Mw power capacity.
Jonathan's agricultural policies were fruitful.
Lady E, ordinarily i may not even have made any contribution to this discuss because I'm seeing this as gathering the clothes from the Clothes drying line after the has stopped falling.....

You highlighted a few things that i just couldn't help but counter...

Vision 20-20, which basically means Nigeria being a top 20 Economy by 2020, & what are the characteristics of a Top 20 economy? There are numerous but will restrict to a couple so this doesn't become too lengthy..

1.Access to Top notch education

2.Industrialization & almost 75% self sufficiency

3. Infrastructural Development

4. Unambiguous & fully defined GDP per capital growth

5. Strict adherence to due process

6. Law enforcement that guarantees 70-80% fairness.

Kindly tell which one Nigeria is on the path to

1. People now send secondary school age children to schools in Ghana

2. We import virtually everything even up to Pencils & toothpicks that we export timbers that are the base raw material.

3. No need starting on this, 3 pages won't come close

4. Minimum wage is 19,500, after deductions most of the people on this level don't go home with more than 15,000 which at 160 naira per dollar back than didn't even hit 100$ !!!! Less than 100$ for a whole month!!!!

5. We have a situation where contracts awarded don't go through tenders board, technical analysis, or even feasibility studies all because of cronyism & payment for such..

Payment can come from any source that the government believes is its sole preserve to act with impunity & no recourse to procurement process

6.This too is a 5 page minimum epistle....

Pray tell how 5 more years to vision 20 20 that is another conduit for corruption can even address any of this especially when no conscious effort is being put in place to check any of these!!

Vision 20 20 was/is all movement, no motion, An exercise in futility..

Polio, the past government did well with the assistance of DONOR agencies..

ICT Penetration, Pass mark but lot of work on pricing cos it isn't uhuru yet till 2 hrs streaming won't take out equivalent of a whole week's pay from one's pocket.

Pension Administration is the biggest scam Nigeria ia running after the Fuel Subsidy Scam, I can not count the no of retirees that discovered after their exit from service that more than 5 years that only their own part of the contribution made it to the PFA, government's never did, we also have extreme cases of both not even making it!! Stanbic, Trustfund , ARM are there for quick verification if the Steve Orosanye, Maina Waziri, Nellie Mayshak's Pension Scams sound far fetched.

Stock Market boom deceit, is another of the fraud that was perpetrated in this country , how many people bought downstream oil firms, Companies & bank shares between 2004-2008 based on the perception of "economic" boom that have now discovered that those Share certificates are now worthless papers today?

Portfolio companies isn't what development is about.. it is in the tangible/ real sector

Jonathan/PDP reduced Poverty by half? sure, in the lives of cronies & party faithfuls.... Obasanjo's "owo gbemu" is the only tangible of that era

12,000MW Capacity? Really? Capacity or actual end user AVAILABILITY?? Let's be clear..

Agricultural Policies? How? Giving Crony importers secret subsidies to bring in unbagged rice that is later bagged in Nigeria isn't what strides in agriculture is all about, Did the price of other food staples reduce? Garri, Beans, Maize, Yam, Wheatmeal l, Tomato, Oil, Egg, Potato etc... Did the policy impact their prices? 20% local production of one single food item isn't what should be taken on a campaign train!!!

I will however commend Jonathan for not listening to rabble rousers & "allowing" smooth transition of the country into the right hands, it may look bleak now but Rehab takes time,--one day at a time...

I wont say mostly especially North East

Bauchi is 80% Moslem, Yobe is 80% Moslem, Gombe is 60% Moslem, Borno is 60% Moslem, Adamawa is 60% moslem and Taraba is like 40% Moslem

Of the 6 states Only Taraba has a slight Xtian majority

In the NC however Plateau, Benue and like 75% Xtian, Niger and Kwara like 70 and 60% moslems, Kogi and Nasarawa I can say almost 50-50 with Moslems edging those states
I stand corrected on some SE states but Bauchi can't be more than 65-35, are you sure Taraba isn't more like 70-30? Nassarawa too should be 70-30 ..

Kogi is more than 50 for muslims, Igalas & Ebira have large muslim populations, the okun people not so much....

However, one is looking forward to the unveiling of the PDP's great hope & bright shining light... alao the definition of "north". smiley

Honestly am not too scared, what scares me is how divided Nigerians are in terms of religion and ethnicity, this is what the west can take advantage of to wreck us. But if we can just forget about last year elections and stand with the PMB, the west won't succeed.

The greatest beneficiaries of the China deal are presently from the region that antagonises the present govt the most. They need to get wiser now, the yuan deal is in their favour

Politics › Re: Currency Deal With China: Things To Know by modath(f): 3:46pm On Apr 15, 2016
989900B:
Just so we set some things straight for the naysayers:

1. If we have xbillion amount of dollars in our reserves, it does not literally mean it's all in US dollars.

2. Even from before, we did keep some Yuan in our 'basket of currencies'.

3. We keep other currencies like GBP, Euro and some few other currencies, and gold too, they are all part of the 'reserves'.

4. We are only increasing our Yuan reserves, and trading directly, rather than going via the $ route (which is a better thing for our economy, considering we have a huge trade volume to and from China . . . times are changing, it's not like the 70s,80s, or 90s . . . the world's trade and ours from then has greatly changed. We can't be applying the monetary policies of 30 years ago in a fast evolving world -- we've gotta evolve with it).

5. China is fast becoming the country with the most investments in Africa, with Nigeria one of it's favourite destination.

6. ATM, the dollar is too strong for it's own good, and the US is worried about that too -- they'r slowly feeling the effect.

7. With the huge trade volume between both countries, it's actually stark insanity NOT to do what PMB just did with China.

8. China's loan rates are one of the cheapest in the world -- every one is borrowing from them -- the UK owes them BILLIONS ($), the US borrowed TRILLIONS ($) from them!

9. China's investment in Africa and Nigeria is estimated to triple in few years.

10 Having a good chunk of our reserves in Yuan, with the amount of imports from there, would help ease the pressure between the Naira and the dollar.

For those who worry about local manufacturing and diversification of the economy, the deal with China as regards major projects such as the 4,000 MW power plant amongst other alternative power solutions, and railway, and refineries, are just the ingredients you need to diversify.

ATEOTD, it is more about policies/laws, leadership and accountability, and if we get it right even them Chinese factories we buy from, will relocate here.

Air Peace isn't that good to me, entered one of their planes from Lagos to Enugu on 5th April 2016. The flight scheduled for 5pm didn't take off till 6 pm, we reached the Enugu airport and landing was a big problem. The plane was making a circular turn for than 30 minutes. everybody in the plane was in panic, people praying and saying to God,is this how my end will be. God please forgive my sins and accept my soul. I marked it bad to board any local flight in this country.

NB : The pilot were warned of the bad weather if they live by 6pm instead of 5 pm it was scheduled. They didn't care about our safety all they had in mind was the money they will make.
The landing tyres were faulty yet nothing was done about it,the plane still took off like that.
The rain falling @ Enugu on 5th April was very terrible, the plane attempted to land several times but couldn't.
The speed the plane was moving in while trying to keep the aircraft in balance was much faster than the speed it travelled from Lagos to Enugu.
The plane made 30 complete turnings but still wasn't able to land.

Same airline will be going international when it couldn't manage the local flight well. I fear for the passengers it will be carrying. Safety rules in our country is zero.
Flew them 2x, Abj-Lag-Abj, both occassions, no complaints. Never flown with them anywhere else so I can't have a opinion about that!!

1. Saratiff needs something on the national stage to "announce" himself as a contender.

His 7th senate stint, drawing attention to the subsidy scam & #savebagega drama didn't generate the kind of buzz that could have propelled him..

Why is PDP being unfair to the entire southern region by treating the region as 3 zones but the north as one, in their new sharing formula? I think the PDP need to come out clearer and be specific about the North as they are about the south. The north comprises of 3 zones, just as the south. They can't treat the south as 3 zones and the north as one. If the permutation is to garner large number of votes from the north, let them be specific as to which section of the north produces the President and VP.
If the south-west and s-south are zoned out of presidency, so should the north west (which has produced Yaradua, NPN's Shagari and APC's Buhari) in the spirit of equity. It's fair that either the north-central or north-east (NOT CURRENT NATIONAL CHAIRMAN PLEASE) produces the next president while the zone that loses out in the primaries takes the senate president's slot.
