dellynash:
hello Mohawkchic, thanks for your advice,i actually had some set expectations which i will wipe them out now and accept the transition.I will also try to be patient,
i don't understand when u say every man needs his ego to be stroke now and then, what does it means my dear?
~It means knowing & using to the best of your ability things/ways that please your hubby, other posters have given you pointers,at the end of the day, only you knows how your hubby will react to certain things,so its all trail & error, some might work, others wont work but keep your head up & keep plugging away!!

*Learn how to pick your fights w/ him,he can't always be right, but sometimes let him think he's had his way!

*Saying You're Soory :sometimes it may be you havent even done anything to apologise for but say it anyways!!

*Learn to Compliment him,his Efforts for doing some things, however small, let him know you noticed !!

*Cook him his favourite meal & then go in for the kill . .you can cajole him to listen to what you have to say!

*Avoiding Character Assassination : if there's nothing a man hates, its losing respect or face, much as we can't always control what we say when we are angry, try not to hit him where it hurts the most-by name calling etc

*Try not to bring up old grudges on past arguments - Unless when absolutely neccessary!!

~Can i also say, without you realising it,you might have been giving some negative body language that your hubby might have picked up on,let him know you're not comfy having a house guest so soon after youre just married!!

~With a house guest, there must be things you're not able to do the way you'd want to!! -scream your head off when doin you know what! wink

*not been able to walk around your house butt naked if you feel like it,you know how uncomfy & how much of a strain its having on you & affecting you,try to make him understand!

Family › Re: The Foundation Of A Good Pregnancy by mohawkchic(f): 9:45pm On Nov 13, 2008
redprofile:
Key 1: Realistic Expectancies

What sets people up for disappointment is when they think something is going to turn out one way, but it turns out to be another. That is why it is important to have expectancies that are realistic. The good news is, no matter what anyone tells you about pregnancy, you're about to begin the most joyous, fun, unbelievable time of your life. You're getting ready to change all of your thinking about what having a child is like and you're getting ready to have a completely different attitude. The rewards outweigh the sacrifices 1,000 to one.

Key 2: Preparation

You must be as prepared as you can be for what is ahead and what you'll need to do. It is very important to include the baby's dad in the process as well. The father really needs to not be crowded out of the pregnancy and baby experience.

Dads: Stake your ground and change those diapers, get involved with bonding with your child right away.

Moms: He may look like a bear with boxing gloves on trying to change that diaper, but don't take over. He'll learn just like you did. And together, you can grow as a couple with the joys of the parenting process.

Key 3: Patience

It seems obvious, but it's extremely important to learn patience. Expectant mothers can go through many different emotions due to the hormone fluctuations and they may have difficulty dealing with the changes in their bodies. For the first time, it isn't all about you and it requires a shift in body image. Weight gain is a part of pregnancy and is needed in order to support the growing life inside your body. Research absolutely supports exercise during pregnancy, such as low impact cardio, yoga and light weight training. Women who exercise during pregnancy are much less likely to have postpartum depression, and much more likely to regain their figure and lose the weight rapidly afterward.

Key 4: A Unified Front

An expectant couple should provide a unified front in the pregnancy experience. Mutual support between you and your partner can make all the difference. As you work together planning for the family addition, listen to your partner's ideas and negotiate. Things like negotiating a name for your baby can be a fun experience.

The number one thing parents can do that may put their child's life in jeopardy is to not cherish the relationship with their partner. When you become a mother and father, you have to be careful to not stop being friends and lovers. It's so easy to be consumed by your child, but you have to remember that kids join our lives, we don't join theirs. Of course they are important, but don't forget to take care of the relationship that is their base of operations. Spend time as a couple and nurture your relationship so your child has a solid future ahead.

hotstuff06:
Mohawkchic, my thoughts exactly.
@ poster, I think what they want you to do is talk to her about boys and *ex. How to not have intercourse and or wait till her wedding night kind of talk.
It could mean more to her coming from the opposite sex that she admires so much as opposed to parents.
Her parents might have noticed that she respects and thinks so highly of you, hence why they are asking you to speak with her.
~On that note,i'd advice you emphasize on "Peer Pressure" to have sex or that sometimes boys will say "things" like {"Dont Woory You Wont Get Pregnant!"} to get her to do something she doesnt really want to do/ready for!!

~Those were the best advice i got from my dada!! It helped coming from a man as well!! For all you know what mum might be trying to warn/tell her about the responsibilities of becoming a woman will sound more like a "Lecture" than concern so keep it light!!

~You have to make the realisation that there is a huge change to embrace from dating to living together as husband & wife !!!there's no longer a "me-space",its all about you two now . . sometimes you'll be iin each  other's face,it takes time to get use to it!!So be Patient!!

~Best advice my mam gave me was . . "Don't Expect It To Be The Same!!" Its a huge transition period!! so don't have "Set Expectations" - you expect things to be just like when you were dating!!- take each day one day at a time, get to know each other's good & bad habits, try to compromise on some things you can't agree on!! ALWAYS communicate how you feel & encourage your hubby to communnicate his feelings too . . none of that nagging bizness now grin

~Every man needs his ego stroked every now & again, perfect your stroke on his ego . . .works every time!!

~Its never an easy path to walk but like all marriages, you get a good knock-down every now & then!!don't loose sight of your goal to be happy in love w/ all the changes that come w/ marriage tho!! wink

~Times like these, you wish marriage came with a manual!! grin

You asked me earlier what the assignment was about? Basically maternity. Been going to the hospital for a while, maternity unit. To observe, and actually learn something about OB/GYN, what they do, procedure etc. Talk to the patience, how they feel, etc.
Basically, this is a part of my assignment. It's really cool, but I wouldn't want to work on that floor tongue tongue The babies are wonderful but it's same thing over and over again. undecided undecided seeing a baby being born, oh it cried and cried. uggghhh grin

And I can't deal with the symptoms those babies are going true. Saw a baby today, all his arm burned. I think his mother put his arms in hot water because he couldn't stop crying. Some people should just not have babies angry angry

So I was like, hey, why not ask nairalanders too tongue[/quote]
~No worries . .you're most welcome!

~I guess you get to see & experience first hand the Joys of having a baby & the worst of Mums/parents who should just not have had babies!! Abuse amongs new born babies/toddlers is so common place nowadays!! to say some Mums lack patience is an understatement!! They dont deal w/ the post-natal depresion or are not aware they have it even, poor babies have to suffer!!

~The past week has seen stories of a 17mth old baby girl who was abused at the hands of her mum,her b/f & the lodger, very sickening!!

~You asked for it,so here goes!! grin

~First thing i noticed that was unusual was my appetite to eat,i lived & survived on snacks ~sandwhiches ~salad & chicken wings, sometimes,i'd go thro the day & wonder if i've eaten . . all of a sudden i started pigging out like no body's bizness!! I craved for the local food back home . . .food i wudnt necessarrily give a toss about . . . anything Rice will have me looking like a kid in a sweet shop!! My sexual urges was on overdrive, lol,i wanted to hit it more often than normal!to put it bluntly,I was gaging for it!! -I wasnt overly wooried when i missed my monthly,i have this weird cycle, where i'd hit or  miss . . .after two-miss-months,i finally went to my GP for a check-up! Didnt have to say much,as i was handed a pregnancy kit,i was so nervous doing my thing to find out -my heart was beating like drums . . . i was ever so estatic to confirm what i'd already suspected & looked forward to feel a new life grow in me,see my bump grow . . .little did i know what journey i had ahead . . there was highs & lows - Emotions & hormones ran thro me like raindrops thro tree leaves but you know what . . . It was all worth it!!

~Spitting:This was the part i hated the most!!my tummy was still as flat as a pancake,no even a bulge, yet there i was spitting for England!!i would have won a gold medal & all grin i wont dwell on it . .save you the "eews" ;Girlfirend my glands were on overtime . .lol i had all sorts of mints to keep my mouth busy,i was reduced to be discrectly stuck w/ a fragranced 75ml soda bottle w/ a drop of my favourite body bath ready for any bombardment of nastiness everywhere i went!! i was grossed out past caring &  i didnt even realised  when it stopped!! It was inbetween first term & half term . .boy was i happy!!

~First scan left me on a high, seeing the baby on the monitor, hearing baby's heartbeat, aaah,i looked at that scan pic every few seconds to remind myself i really had a baby growing in me,my tummy had started to loose its firmness,i welcomed the slight bulge with much anticipation!!
~The significant change from having a very huge appetite to not been able to keep any food down was not on any research i'd read,& trust me as a research buff, you bet,i'd read up on A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G & E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G to do with pregnancy!!

~The real wierd part was i couldnt stand eating the very few food i do eat, already a very fussy eater by nature, the thought of eating chicken, meat, fish freaked me out!! It was so weird i thought,it was unreal; the advert of KFC chicken on Tv would have me running to go puke,it was as if the food was right in front of me & i could smell it . .{i don't even eat KFC }- anyways i had the same difficulty if i walked passed a resturant, the arouma of any food will make me sick!!Needless to say there was a NO- Cooking/Making-Anything-That-Will-Leave-A-Smell in the house, not that my hubby could cook anyways, but he was banned from making the one thing he was good at . . baked Potato & Tuna . .that grossed me out more than the KFC Advert!! Poor Bugs,he eat out all thro my preggy!

~So what was i eating?- i hear you wonder!! Toast, cucumber & tomato sandwhich, hell of a lot of tea,Coke, water & my new found obession of chewing Uncooked Rice!!yes!!you read it right . . .i had my special zip it bag for the rice  embarassed . . .Half the time i did eat any of the above,i cudnt keep it down,i felt like a bulimic, one minute i was eating, the next minute it was all out again!~ A couple of occassion in the last term of my pregnancy i craved for fufu;hubby called on a favour from a friend of a friend to make me some - back then,i'll burn water when it came to cooking anything local from back home!! Girl did i pig out on that . .it was as if i'd hadnt eaten for a month!!

~Needless to say the midwife was really wooried about baby,as i wasnt eating properly to help baby grow bla bla bla,i was always at the point of passing out from exhaustion ~ heartburn ~ my insomnia became chronic,i couldnt sleep for days sometimes . .i felt like a zombie at night,my love for reading became an obssession -i read a book or two each day ~research-crazed,i read up on everything there was to know about first-time-mums,joined forums, groups about babies, watched babies popping out on Discovery health . . i was ever so emotional,i cried at the silliest things-hormones was all over the place!!for the most part if i wasnt shopping, window shopping,i slept thro the day, started my routine all over again!!

~On one of my schedule checkups,my midwife informed me i had sickle cell trait! Am like "You what!!" "you sure you got the right file ?" went through the usual Q's "any history of SC?" "NO!!"- anywho i had an appointment booked w/ The Sickle Cell centre  . . that scared the shit out of me,for real!! Did all the necessary blood tests, had the talk w/ the cousellor  . .giving it to me straight up - hubby had to be tested, what the chances were for baby if hubby had the trait as welli was balling thro-out her counselling . . .Halle Berry had nothing on me on her Oscar speech!! - not something i like to think about at all!!. . was a close call . . .to think when i looked at my son now,i was given the option to terminate if hubby had the trait as well . . phew!! I can only say "Thank You Lord"

~On a much brigther note,{prolly bored you silly w/ my preggy autobiography huh} - I loved my bump: it wasnt humongous,it was real sexy & small,i regularly checked my bump in the long length mirror to see how much it has grown,i looked forward to it taking the form from a bulge to the shape of a round pot's backside . .when i told peeps when i was due they're like "hmm you sure?" { like i wouldnt know} - i didnt feel the need to wear/buy maternity,i just bought me clothes a size up when my bump outgrew my regular clothes!!my nose however was a totally different story,i felt like pinoccho . .my nose was huge . . especially towards half-term!!i avoided taking pics just b/c of my nose . .i had this special glow only a preggy woman can boost of . . my bust size doubled,& i put those babies forward, like Pamela Anderson would on a beach in baywatch- my nails grew strong & long!!

~Truth be told i cudnt wait to pop the baby out!! I was knackered,Nine months can do that to you you know!! wink

Hi Folks, I've got a cousin who is very dear to me. I was told by her guardians that she's been seeing her monthly period and needs some guidance and advice.
She respects me a lot and her guardian wants me to talk to her. I'm a guy and knows very little about such strictly feminine stuff.
I would appreciate the advice and guidance of women (especially) and experienced men in da house.
~Me thinks her guardians meant for you to talk to her about boys!!"The Birds & The Bees" Not The How-To-Put-On-Sanitary-Pads speech!!

~She's got to that stage where unprotected sex will end up in Unwanted pregnancy,so without scaring her silly, talk to her from the heart, like you would your own sister, tell her the pro's & cons of having sex!!
