the young man is not the problem,the system is.We would be lying to ourselves here if we pretend he didnt need the security detail.I know folks who have tried to live simple lifes and avoided all the attention that havin police escorts generate, but they have regretted it and learnt their lessons the hard way.Now they all roll with their truck loads of mobile policemen, if regular technicians and engineers that work with Julius Berger have security details cos they are white,how much more an executive director in GLO. Truth be told he cant run the streets of lagos on his own unscathed abi no be d Lagos wey we de so(Apologies Tuface and JIMMY JATT).
Besides the portfolio that guy runs is bigger than what some government officials in some states that run around with convoy of police men handle.our worry should be on how to check the excesses of these security men.

Besides everyone thought the Chinese were going to get run over by the West when most of their companies started moving there in the early 80’s.Today china is the world's 2nd economy and giving the Americans a run for their money.
Funny there seems to be a huge disconnect between what folks say on this forum and what is on ground, imagine someone saying a company that pays $18,000 annually to its average employees is low paying and therfore not welcome, all this in a country where graduates run after moving vehicles at full speed to sell one “Gala”…my opinion is they would definitely kick start some segments of the economy like agriculture ,it will always be cheaper to grow some stuff here than import ,and that’s something successive governments have failed to do.

AS far as I am aware there is nothing, no central database of all the cars on the road in Nigeria, which would be the first step, no mechanisms in place to stop the same car being registered over and over again in different states.

scary!I am reminded of a guy that had his car stolen only to find it with someone else some years later in a completely different state.the poor fella that bought the stolen car had to pay through his nose to get off the police case that followed,not to mention losing a car he supposedly bought legit!

But really people is there a fool-proof way of telling if a car is stolen and resold here in Nigeria.I mean cars stolen within the country and re-cycled, for cars stolen in North America you probably can tell with the car identification, and with all the neat Nigerian used cars so readily available these days its a big worry.Either one finds out how or else folks might simply avoid Nigerian used cars completely and go for brand new or tokunbo!

No harm intended bro but this car looks like it has been re-sprayed…give us the car’s history so we know what the catch is, on this supposed “fantastic” deal. It would even help u sell faster and clear suspicions.

Fine if you would have to replace them every six months. Look let us be realistic. If the average Londoner or New-Yorker would use and no abuse those bins, nick and resell them then you could extend your resources. Handrails gone, streetlights gone. Even the wrought iron mini fencing used to protect sidewalk lawns are fast disappearing in high brow Ikeja, all in the name of poverty. Ask those people and what they say is the economy is bad. There is a disconnect between prosperity and the environment that is evident on the streets and on this forum.

You cannot make a hungry man care for his environment. You cannot make him leave a bustling city though he has no job, you cannot make him obey laws. Fashola cannot change the mindset of Lagosians, he can only appeal. He cannot raise the per capita, he can only provide an enabling environment. London may be cheaper than Liverpool but we don't speak of Londoners, we speak of the British. He cannot create an island of splendor in the middle of a poor and backward country. If he does Lagos will become an even bigger magnet and perhaps the 20,000 souls entering the city a day will become like 200,000.

Believe me if we want to turn around this situation fast we need even more sacrifices as a people than we are currently offering. Watching the series currently running on BBC knowledge about Lagos the running battles between KAI, the baddies and the people what you ca glean out of the whole thing is that the average Nigerian, Lagosian is unwilling to give up anything for others or his environment all in the name of poverty.

While we are busy here blaming government for everything, people (right now) are building shops on drains, trading on the streets, vendors throwing corn cobs and husks, plantain peels into gutters with a care free attitude. Do you have to tell a man in New York or an Asian shop keeper in Birmingham to sweep the front of his shop. But Lagos has to shut down till ten in the morning on Thursdays to get people to clean up at a cost to government (in enforcement personnel, equipment and the works) of hundreds of millions per year. This is a monumental waste to attack waste. We can take care of our houses and shops ourselves. When we see a fellow passing by our house and drops a sachet of pure water we can bin t or call him to task. What is all this government this, government that. How many government bins are in the village. Why is the place not filthy. Simple because attitudes are different. The village belongs to us, the cities belong to government.

Makes plenty of sense, it’s not about Fashola but the mindset of Lagosians. The average lagosian feels doing right is “dulling”. I remember visiting Calabar and was shocked to see that even a perceived illiterate “Okada” rider would castigate u for throwing dirt on the street. In Accra a cab driver pursued a friend for over 2km for throwing an ice cream pack out of his car and forced him to drive back and pick it up, else he would be reported to the police.
I think as a deterrent, a practice in Seoul the South Korean capital could be initiated in Lagos, where citizens get huge monetary rewards for reporting fellow road users that break traffic laws. It could also be done for those that don’t discard waste properly. Offenders would be made to pay heavy fines and those that report them should be handsomely rewarded. I think Fashola can do more however I think Lagosians can do much more. Their role doesn’t just end with paying tax!

This is sheer hypocrisy! why do we have states and regions, Nigeria is for all Nigerians no doubt but a Fulani man cannot share equal land rights with a Tiv man on farm lands in Benue state its just not done and if u are an indigene of a state in Nigeria u would know its true and not just for land matters but same goes for elective offices, government  appointments, state university admissions, and a whole lot of other issues, and for those who think the Fulani attack does not have a religious bearing, well ask yourself how come the Fulanis seem to always be at loggerheads with farmers in predominantly middle belt Christian communities like in Benue and Plateau …pray how many Fulani herdsmen have u heard attack farmers in the northern part of Nigeria where we have more farmlands than in the middle-belt?

chei!no confuse me now!i think anoda thing the Accord has going,is that the resell value on toyotas drops faster than the Honda,like a naija used 2005 Accord still sells for over 1.3/1.4 mil even after 2 to 3 yrs of use.But a camry or corolla loses 200gees at least even after only a few months of use.

hey folks,i know its the age long debate but i am caught up in it cos am thinking of getting my first car and am stuck between the 2005 versions of the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Accord.
i hear Toyota Corolla is the car if u want durability and easy maintenance but its Honda cousin beats it anyday if u are looking for a luxury sedan but is usually prone to gear box issues.
What do u guys think?i need some truthful advice from folks that ve used either or both cars or know anything about them.
