@ Aristole

Yeah! Let's see if it's gonna work out this way.

You give us a proverb in any language with its meaning

Oya :

Omo ti ko ni iya kin dobo eyin
Meaning: A motherless child no dey mess (chop plaintain, banana, bla!bla!!bla!!!)  from behind
Funny. How about this one? I hear most elderly people say it with so much ease.

'Isiro ni oko dido'  , Can't even interprete it in English. Aristole help me now,

Music/RadioRe: Nigerian Industry Artists Who Could Actually Do Good Globally? by MojiEsther(f): 2:32pm On Apr 08, 2009
DBanjFan:
Hears another perspective we can look at the main question I was asking.

If one of our artistes were to go to the United States(seeing as that is the place where your career in music is propelled to greater heights) could their so called "product", sell enough to make in the Billboard top 10 charts.
Hmm,
Music/RadioRe: Nigerian Industry Artists Who Could Actually Do Good Globally? by MojiEsther(f): 3:13pm On Apr 07, 2009
@ Dbanj Fan,

Haba! Dont say there is no Nigerian artiste that can do good globally. There are a few who will and some who are widely known already.
They just need more promo and support.
Its easy, a law of branding says , 'to be a global brand, have a local perception'. Nigerian artistes who are original and do good music will do well globally. There's nothing wrong with 'our music' if only there's a touch of excellence.

So my list is:

Nice
Asa
Pasuma, Obesere, Saridon P(Saheed Osupa-this guy makes sense)
Dbanj
Durella (this guy is crazy)

My other list- I think they are very talented and will also do well globally.

Mode Nine
M.I
Paul Play
Nomoreloss

Thats all i can remember for now.
Music/RadioRe: Something About 9ice by MojiEsther(f): 2:34pm On Apr 07, 2009
Nice is just an optimistic person who decided to put his 'optimism' into his music. Chikena. I think bragging kinda sell.
Music/RadioRe: Songs You Hear On Your Radio/tv That Just Make You Turn Them Off! by MojiEsther(op): 2:21pm On Apr 07, 2009
@ Showbobo,

Yeah the video is nice (Ksolo's 'your way') but the song, tongue

Haba! Morachi is not bad o,   huh

My No3: (Forgot to mention), at the time it was still gaining airplay;

'Segemenge' - Kc Presh ( Minus OJB's rap and the beat).
The lyrics, i cant qualify, melody, rhyme, message, ish!  angry
Well the video is nice but i definitely turn off my radio.

Wo, Tosin, i wanted to also comment that "its unpleasant to the ear and lacks any form of talent" but didnt want to overdo it. You are so right,
Music/RadioSongs You Hear On Your Radio/tv That Just Make You Turn Them Off! by MojiEsther(op): 12:03pm On Mar 30, 2009
Hi fellow Nairalanders,

There are just some songs you  hear on TV/Radio that you cant stand. They turn you off, ruin your mood  angry, so you just turn off the T.V/Radio or change the channel whenever they are on.

Mine:

1.  Yo(Song Title) - AY Z (Artiste)

What on earth does did this guy do on this song ? Rap? or Chant?  huh

2.  'Your Way'(Song Tiltle) - Ksolo (Artiste)

The song sounds like a fake version of 'J.Martins' 'Good or Bad'  grin. Heard this guy is a producer and produces for Timaya and some other peeps. I think he is a better producer than 'singer'?

micdad:
do u think it will be easier for a yankee based naija girl to break naija music industry? or shes gotta be naija proper, I mean don't get me wrong talent can come from anywhere in the world but wat are the possibilities? Do u think a yankee naija girl will get the same respect like a naija based girl if they both have same talent potential?
Of course! With the right promotion and the right songs. She will.
If she's got talent - as in she can sing and she's focused-, she'll break into the market.
The fact that she's from Yankee could even be some form of promo tool/advantage: some recordlabels know how to do that kind of promo well.

Sky B now, He sang that popular song with the crappy video. The chorus is like this:

'My baby, my baby
You are the one that i'm calling, i'm calling
Ohhh my baby, my baby"

The song was really popular but i dont think the guy was really smart about it.

@ Sauron

Close that dictionary! , It took you so much time to search for the right words to fix in this reply message.
Dust your C.V( If you have one) and go get a job since you are not a music artiste( cos you lack talent).
What i know about music busines, you'll be shocked! My boy, and thats why i can be here cos i know what i'm talking about when i do. And when i dont, i don't say anything.Unlike you,
Meanwhile i don't have a fat ass, you should read my signature line( if you can think and read).
And its not sitted at home, its sitted at MY OFFICE. So i have nothing to lose,
I derive pleasure in helping you exhibit your folly and lack of masculinity on NL.
And guess what? Again, you are so emotional about this issue, you've being distracted from the topic at hand. Sissy girl!
Music/RadioRe: Nigerian Rappers by MojiEsther(f): 4:09pm On Jan 21, 2009
@ Sauron

Yes, of course you are not an artiste, how can you be? Thats y u know nothing about Naija music/music business and you are so in a hurry to run your crooked fingers on your bosses'overdue to be changed' pentium 1 desktop computer! Oops, you've got no job. If you do, you'll sound more responsible and stop talking to people like an uncivilized man? boy!.
Keep quiet when we talk about music/music business, you have no idea. You can contribute when sissies open a thread!
Yes i cant use the 'quote' well, i noticed. Maybe you should teach me, since you are the one who wants to teach all Naija rappers how to rap. Olodo!
Music/RadioRe: Nigerian Rappers by MojiEsther(f): 3:56pm On Jan 21, 2009
I dont understand these people oh. The poster is talking bout lyrics and made reference to one of the trying nigerian rappers as rubbish. and errbody is saying yea yea he's right.

yea he's right. but he still doesnt know what he's talking about. he doesnt listen to naija rap. that was the 1st time he'll listen to it(in his uncles car ) and then he used that little piece he heard to judge the whole nigerian rappers. waaahhh? he didnt even bother making a research or sumn. Instead of him to ask for the best out of the best in naija, he's busy badmouthing all of them.

Did nigerians start rap or what? how are they supposed to do it better than those that do it abroad. .? unless or maybe they grew up there. No one can tell me a full proper nigerian, born and bred, will do rap better than someone who grew up abroad. . . . .the vocabs compared to what guy learn in naija is just different . . . . . . . .

So, the little that do it and people feel them are trying. . . .they dont need to do at the same level as the kanyes, jayzs, nas's and so on.
its naija. . . .and rocking naija is enough. . . .if you feel they dont appeal to you, simply close ya earz whenever their songs are being played. . . . .
Thank you so much. That was so on point!
I wonder why some people are so quick to critisize without first doing some research and thinking,
Is there anything wrong with aiming to be a 'global brand with a Nigerian perception'?

I can tell you are not a rapper, a poet not to think a lyricist.

I can see you are a little bit spastic and demented.
How the hell is that punchline gon' be recognised internationally.
Isn't that what the OP was talking about in the first place about our music lacking substance??
It is so mis-directed as many artistes use 'Baba' in the Naija hip-hop industry. Mode9 coulda worded the punchline better.
He has no sense of direction.

You can't feel Banky W's/Rihanna song, fine, but you think its the most pathetic and laziest attempt at stardom.
Well, like tens of thousands of people dont think it is.

Cos the tens of thousands don't have class and a listening ear.
tens of millions of people also think Eedris is better than 50 cent so forget the figures and open your eyes.

Good day, Sauron, How are you doin? Howz kindergarten?
I refuse to come down to your level and then address you the way you just did.
I can tell your age?, level of intelligence, from the way you put your words.
You are so emotional about this forums and you dont have 'teets', Or do you?
If you know so well how about punchlines, how about releasing a single and putting ur music video on some international music channel? Chicken!
About the BankyW issue , You know nothing about the naija music business, i can tell u dont buy C'ds but beg for songs on NL. Ota aje!
Maybe you are one of the 'talented but no sense of biz artiste' , who keep doin music without having the third party(consumers) in mind, You no go sell! And nobody go come your show.
You think tens of thousands dont have a listening ear? I rest my case! Now its many against one.
Your argument lacks content. Shut down your system! If you dont you'll be banned on NL!

It wont kill, will it, it must just sink his career like the titanic. grin
My bad. Just read this again this morning. This is what i meant to say:

It won't kill, it might just sink his career like the titanic. grin.

I'm no fortune teller, its a probability thing, who knows the rugged one might scale thru dis.

@ darequam
I used to be a Rugged man fan o, cos i thought he was intelligent, got good delivery, communicated well and smart.
He spoke the truth then, we agreed, fine.
But then he keeps on ranting on and on about how he saved the whole industry, bla bla bla. Haba! there's a limit to which you blow your trumpet yourself.
Yes its music/music biz but we shouldnt forget it's human beings who buy C.ds and pay to watch artistes at shows. They are emotional and their opinion of you matter a lot, they can easily smell pride and lack of focus.
Talking about rugged losing focus(my opinion as a former fan and patron/consumer):
I heard the 'rugedy baba song' and kept asking "what on earth is he doing?" Is he still on them shoemaker's side or he's bothered whether he's no more on 'Naija rappers' 'A list' since he raps in pigdin and there are many other rappers who dont.
You know what, his dissing them Idris, rasqie etc and then coming back to collaborate with 'em to do songs, were all planed out by him. Those moves are all Marketing strategy(like some1 said on NL), but what worked for him in two thousand and ehen might not work for him in 2009.
I'm just a bit worried about the 'rugged man brand', it is seriously unstable now.
People might think these things dont matter but they go a long way in the minds of the consumer/fans.

U are not on your own, dawg!!!!

Only few of em actually know what the art of rapping is all about.
On the top of ma head, i will say M.I. Ruggedman, Virus and Alabai have the potential to rip it.
When u hear mode9 talking about when "i diss a Baba, i am not talking about Ethiopia". . . .That bar is the most watery hogwash i have heard.
Then u have that moronic Banky W that sang Rihanna's song in the most pathetic and laziest attempt at stardom.
Do Nigeria have a censors board at all?? How in the name of Zeus did they let that song hit the airwaves??
Buncha classless beings.

Beef in hip hop goes like a sock in a shoe.

Rugged took Eedris out of the game.

Now it is time to take him out.
Not just Eedris, He dulled Raskie's game, tried to take out maintain, dissed them kenny and D1.
So who is rugged that he can't be dealt with?
He's not above this, He must go thru this phase like every other artiste he dissed did.
Whatever you sow you reap, its his turn to eat dust.
It wont kill, will it, it must just sink his career like the titanic. grin
