Indonesia brushed aside last-minute appeals yesterday and executed eight people including 4 Nigerians convicted of drug smuggling in their country. Photos of the dead being buried and details from their last minutes on earth have now been revealed.

According to the pastors who were with them in their final hours, reformed Bali Nine ringleaders Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran and their six fellow death row prisoners refused to wear blindfolds and were singing as they were executed by a 13-member firing squad in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The eight men chose to face their executioners and spent their last minutes of life praying, praising God and singing songs including Amazing Grace.

On Wednesday morning, Pastor Christie Buckingham - who read Chan and Sukumaran their last rites - said the eight death row inmates walked out onto the killing field singing religious songs in the moments before they were executed.

Pastor Buckingham said the men conducted themselves with 'dignity and strength until the end'. Another pastor, Karina de Vega, said it was a 'beautiful experience'.

'It was breathtaking. This was the first time I witnessed someone so excited to meet their God,' Pastor de Vega told Fairfax.

Nigerian Martin Anderson chose to be buried in the West Java town of Bekasi, and fellow Nigerian Raheem Agbaje, wanted to be buried in the East Java town of Madiun where he had been a prisoner. Indonesian Zainal Abidin is to be buried in Cilacap. The wishes of two other Nigerians — Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise and Okwudili Oyatanze — have yet to be made public.

Indonesian Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo confirmed at a news conference hours after the deaths had been widely reported that each of the eight had been executed simultaneously at 12:35 a.m. (1735 GMT) by a 13-member firing squad. Medical teams confirmed their deaths three minutes later, he said.
"The executions have been successfully implemented, perfectly. All worked, no misses," he said of the deaths of two Australians, four Nigerians, a Brazilian and an Indonesian man.

Prasetyo also dismissed concerns that Indonesia had done long-term damage to bilateral relations through the executions. According to him:

"It's just a momentary reaction. What we're doing is carrying out court decisions."

He said that the message was "do not try to smuggle drugs in Indonesia, because we will be harsh and firm against drug-related crimes."

Being educated doesn't equal to being exposed or informed. You're obviously educated but not informed.

Many progressive countries have social programs for the poorest of their citizens irrespective of the type of government they practice.

It is myopic to assume that Aregbe didn't do a feasibility study before embarking on the meal a day program. Feasibility studies do not always tell what will change in future and they mostly rely on present realities. How many programs have been discontinued in Nigeria as a result of new realities?

I don't like to do this but if you still call GMB an illiterate it shows the white matter in your skull is not what it should be.

OPINION
The Senator should have known better. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro was "attractively looking odd" at an official meeting on Thursday between a joint delegation of UNOWA (United Nations for West Africa) -UNOCA (United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa) officials led by Mohammed Ibn Chambas and Abdoulaye Bathily and the Nigerian delegation led by the ever smiling president Jonathan, at the presidential villa.

While the notable men who knew they were coming for an official meeting with international colleagues were donned in glamourous attires and footwears, our very own Minister of State II, Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro wore a Birkenstock slippers to the OFFICIAL meeting. The Senator's dressing may seem casual to some people but nothing is casual when it comes to matters of the presidency/Federal Government (even their salaries and allowances are not casual). Senator Obanikoro should have known what to put on for a high caliber meeting like that and not dress like someone going for his traditional wedding. All the same, the Senator is still my number one fan.

Earlier this month, A Utah man who wore a white polo shirt for a meeting with federal official was shocked to discover that his 'informal meeting' with the officials was actually with President Barack Obama. The man thought he was going to be led into an auditorium to talk about how to help veterans get more jobs in the field of solar energy. Instead, he saw a table filled with powerful functionaries such as President Obama, top senators and a mayor- all of whom were wearing suits and ties. He was the only odd one out like our own Senator which made him feel embarrassed and criticized by some.

No more presidential jet for her, nawa ooo such is life, a woman that even use our presidential jet to fly some first ladies of other African countries into Nigeria, now use emirate. OK ooooo, construct roads they no gree, improve the safety and reliability of our local airlines they no gree, do what is necessary they no gree, now we don dey board the same airline.
