Quota Scheme Scholarships


The Norwegian government provides students from developing countries in the South and countries in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and in Central Asia with financial support to study for a degree in Norway under the Quota Scheme.

The main objective of the Quota Scheme is to contribute to capacity building through education that will benefit the home country of the students when they return. The Quota Scheme is also intended to strengthen relations between Norway and the selected countries and thus contribute to internationalisation at Norwegian institutions of higher education.

Most universities and university colleges in Norway participate in the Quota scheme. The institutions involved are allocated a certain number of students under the programme each year. The scheme normally includes courses at Master’s and Ph.D. level in addition to certain professional/Bachelor’s degrees. Most of the Norwegian institutions offer courses and educational programmes in English.
Recruitment enrollment

The Quota Scheme will only enrol students from institutions (organisations, universities, authorities) which have collaboration agreements with Norwegian universities or university colleges. Norwegian institutions usually do not admit free movers (individual applicants) to this scheme. Only in very special cases will free movers be considered. Please contact the institutions directly for individual information.

Students who come to Norway as self-financing students will, as a rule, not be considered as being qualified for the Quota Scheme.

To find out which institutions collaborate with Norwegian institutions, please refer to the websites of the Norwegian institutions. You could also ask your home institution about whether they have any sort of collaboration with Norwegian universities / university colleges from the list of participating institutions.
Basic general requirements

Most of the study programmes offered under the Quota Scheme are taught in English. Applicants who are not native English speakers therefore must document their proficiency in English. Requirements may differ between institutions and various study programmes. Please see the university /university college’s website for more details about language requirements.

A few courses in the Quota Scheme are offered in Norwegian and require good skills in the Norwegian language. Students admitted to study programmes that are mainly taught in Norwegian may receive additional financial support for studying Norwegian language for one year prior to their study.

Admission to the Quota Scheme is highly competitive and meeting the minimum requirements is no guarantee for enrollment.

Tuition Free Universities in Germany.

Semester fees

Semester fees not only cover administrative costs, such as enrolment fees and re-registration fees, but also include a social contribution to the Studentenwerk (local student services organisation) for running the mensas, cafeterias, halls of residence, and advice services. The semester fees also contribute to the official body that represents students at the institution, such as the AStA (student union), and also go towards funding semester tickets for public transport, where applicable. You are obliged to pay semester fees if you wish to study at a higher education institution.
Tuition fees

Tuition fees are usually charged by private higher education institutions and for postgraduate programmes. Students who exceed the standard period of study by more than four semesters (long-term students) may also be liable to pay tuition fees. In 2007, general tuition fees began to be introduced in Germany, which every student had to pay from the first semester onwards, allowing other fees – such as long-term study fees – to be dropped. In the meantime, however, most German states have abolished tuition fees.

The Auckland Council Chief Economist’s Research Scholarship in Economics

Introduction

The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and support postgraduate research in urban economics or in a related field that has particular relevance to local government in New Zealand.

This scholarship was established in 2013 to support and encourage research into urban economics. The scholarship is funded by the Chief Economist’s Unit at Auckland Council.

This Scholarship provides funds to support research as part of a programme of postgraduate study at a New Zealand university.

Research can be in one of two categories:

1. Research that is directly relevant to the Auckland Plan, Auckland Council’s Unitary Plan or Economic Development Strategy, or
2. Research that addresses a topic which is relevant to and informs the economic knowledge of local government in New Zealand
Eligibility

At the time of application candidates must be enrolled in a programme of postgraduate study at a New Zealand university.
Applicants may be enrolled as either full time or part time students.
The postgraduate programme must be in the area of urban economics or a related field. (Universities NZ and Auckland Council reserve the right to determine the eligibility of a particular area of study.)
A thesis, dissertation or research report must be a requirement of the postgraduate programme.

Value and Number awarded

The scholarship can be held for only one academic year.

Candidates whose programmes are spread over more than one academic year are eligible for only one year’s scholarship.

Each year Auckland Council may grant one scholarship with an award of $4,000 or two scholarships with an award of $2,000 each.

For candidates who are enrolled on a part time basis the value of the award will still be $4,000 or $2,000.

The award funds are intended to help with tuition fees and research costs (eg data costs) and to contribute towards living costs.

Auckland Medical Aid Trust Scholarship (PhD)

Introduction

This scholarship was established in 2004 and is financed by the Auckland Medical Aid Trust to encourage research into social issues concerning being and becoming human.

This scholarship provides funds for individuals to undertake research towards a doctoral degree at a New Zealand university.

New Zealand is currently debating a number of issues that impact on the field of human reproduction – social, medical and technological. This Scholarship is designed to further that debate by promoting discussion of the cultural, ethical, legal, and spiritual issues arising from such topics.

The Selection Committee will consider projects that intersect with these debates from a number of disciplines across the arts and humanities including, but not limited to, bioethics, sociology, philosophy, anthropology, Māori studies, education, religion and law.

Eligibility

Applicants will be registered as a candidate or will be in the process of applying for registration as a candidate for a doctoral degree at a New Zealand university.

Scholars will be residing in New Zealand for the duration of their degree.

Value

The scholarship will be for up to $25,000 per annum.

Tenure

The scholarship will be awarded for one year but may be extended to a maximum of three years, provided that satisfactory progress is maintained and subject to approval by the Auckland Medical Aid Trust.

Co-tenure

The Trust are keen to allocate funds as broadly as possible. Applications are welcome from all eligible candidates, including those who already have funding from a university doctoral scholarship.

MSc ON INTEGRATED DRYLANDS MANAGEMENT

Programme Overview

The Joint Master’s Degree (MSc) Programme on Integrated Drylands Management brings together different expertise and scientific resources of the partner institutes to build advanced human capital, and generate and adapt global knowledge for local solutions in drylands. The programme provides young professionals and scientists an international perspective on integrated resources management approaches in drylands and allows them to gain practical experience in different dryland countries. Throughout the programme, a strong emphasis will be placed on multidisciplinary approaches.

The MSc Programme offers two components:

A short intensive course
Field research leading to the development of a Master’s thesis.

The three-week course work focuses on the international dimension of dryland management and a range of research methods. An international team of selected experts from all partners and their networks will provide a balanced mix of lectures and seminars.

The six-month field and laboratory research is conducted under the supervision of one of the programme partners. Upon completion of the MSc Programme, students will receive a Master’s Degree from their home university and a certificate from the United Nations University.

Typically, the graduates from the MSc Programme serve in government departments and agencies (e.g. those dealing with agriculture, forestry, natural resources management, and combating desertification), teaching positions in institutions of higher learning, research institutions and doctoral research programmes.

This 2015-2016 course will be held at Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute [CAREERI] in Lanzhou, China. International experts from all partner organizations and their networks, representing different disciplines in drylands management, will facilitate a mixture of lectures, seminars, laboratory applications and field visits to the arid landscape in China. The focus of the course work will be on research and practices for combating desertification, and will include inter and multi-disciplinary aspects such as climate change, integrated water and land management, land neutrality and economics aspects. The deadline for application submissions has been extended to July 30, 2015.

Tuition fee is US $6000, including costs of course delivery, supervision, and examination. The fee does not include travel costs between the country of the student’s origin and locations of the MSc Programme partners, and costs of living at the MSc Programme partners. Information on local food, accommodation, health insurance, and other logistical matters will be available from MSc Programme partners. The tuition fee will be waived for students who are Fellowship recipients.

A limited number of Fellowships will be provided to qualified candidates from developing countries on a competitive basis. These fellowships will cover the travel costs between the country of origin and IRA, CAREERI, ICARDA, and TU, as needed. Japanese students may only apply for TU fellowships.

During the course work in 2015, CAREERI will house the students with full boarding and lodging in a suitable hotel in Lanzhou, China. During laboratory research work, TU will provide non-Japanese students with allowance for accommodation and meals in Tottori, Japan.

Africas Land & Food Fellowship

Since the Fellowship was launched in 2005, over £1.8 million has been generously provided by the private sector, foundations and charities in support of the programme. Since 2012 the UK Government has also supported Fellows through Chevening Scholarships. This funding is provided for leadership training; the development of professional networks and supporting industrial experience, together with study opportunities on Master’s programmes in agriculture, agri-business, food and rural development at the Royal Agricultural University.

Fellows subsequently return to Africa and many are now making significant leadership contributions through their various occupations to managing change in rural development, food supply and security, farming, agribusiness, agricultural education, research and in government. The programme is linked to four Masters Programmes: MSc’s in International Rural Development, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security and Business Management plus the MBA in International Food and Agri-business.

Fellowships are open to Africans from Sub-Saharan Africa who have experience in agriculture, agri-business, food or natural resource management; an interest in land reform; and a desire to make a strategic and sustainable contribution to Africa’s development. In short, tomorrow’s innovators and leaders.

Scholarships cover tuition fees, board and accommodation, flights to and from the UK, provision for networking and a short industrial placement either in Africa or in the UK. Scholarships also cover incidental costs whilst in the UK and on placement; however, applicants are advised that funding does not include provision for home and family costs. Furthermore, Fellows are expected to return to their own countries following their UK studies to complete their programme and ‘begin to make a difference’.

We work with up to ten African fellows each year from a number of countries; the alumni includes fellows from: Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland, Malawi, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Kenya, Nigeria, South Sudan, Sierra Leone and Cameroon to date.

Canada-CARICOM Virtual University Scholarship Program (CCVUSP)

Background

The Canada-CARICOM Virtual University Scholarship Program (CCVUSP) was announced in 2007 by Prime Minister Harper during a visit to the Caribbean. The program serves to enhance the skill sets required to advance the development and sustainability of CARICOM and seeks to strengthen institutional linkages between Canadian universities and colleges and those in the region.

Canadian Virtual University (CVU) is an association of Canadian public universities specializing in online and distance education. Collectively, these universities offer over 3,000 courses and 350 degrees, diplomas and certificates available completely at a distance to students across Canada and around the world, in English and French.

CVU universities are all members of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) and conform to its principles of institutional quality assurance in Canadian higher education.
Guidelines

The Government of Canada under the Canada-CARICOM Virtual University Scholarship Program (CCVUSP) will offer three programs, delivered entirely online or through distance education, to learners from CARICOM countries.

The scholarships will be awarded and funded by Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) and will be co-administered by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and Canadian Virtual University (CVU).
Eligibility

Applicants must be citizens of and living in one of the following countries: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitt’s, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos.

Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women (FLOW 2016-2020)


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Netherlands aims to improve the position of women and girls in the World. Hence another round of funding is now been made available: Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women (FLOW).

Worldwide, some progress has been made in recent decades in attaining women’s rights and equal treatment. Many countries have abolished discriminatory laws and criminalized violence against women. They have made investments in health and education, and in some countries the economic participation of women has increased. In general, however, the pace of change is slow. In some countries and sectors, progress is at a standstill or has even been reversed. Despite major regional and contextual differences, experts agree that there is no country where progress towards gender equality is either assured or irreversible.

Call for proposals launched today

FLOW funds programs in low- and lower-middle income countries. 93 million EUR is available for the period of 2016-202, for programs aiming at:

1. Combatting violence against women;

2. Participation by women in politics and public administration; and

3. Women’s economic participation and self-reliance

YSEALI Academic Fellows

What is it?

Starting in summer 2015, over the course of a year, 250 YSEALI Academic Fellows will take part in academic institutes in one of three core YSEALI themes:

Civic engagement
Environment and natural resources management
Entrepreneurship and economic development

These five week institutes, held on the campus of a U.S. university or college, will include an academic residency, leadership development, an educational study tour, local community service activities, and opportunities to engage with American peers. The program will conclude in Washington, D.C., to allow for engagement with policymakers, governmental representatives, businesses, and think tanks.
Who is eligible to apply?

Young leaders from all 10 ASEAN countries who members that are current undergraduate or graduate students or recently graduated. Participants are selected by their local embassy based on their background, experience, leadership record, and commitment to service.
What are the eligibility requirements?

Applicants must be:

Between the ages of 18 and 25 at the time of application, although exceptional applicants over 25 can be considered if they meet all other eligibility requirements;

Sir John Logan Campbell Agricultural Scholarship

Sir John Logan Campbell was a successful Auckland businessman who lived from 1817 to 1912. He made many donations to the people of Auckland, including Cornwall Park. This scholarship has resulted from money gifted in 1925 from his endowment fund to help set up an agricultural teaching course in Palmerston North. It will be used to encourage 1st Year students from urban areas such as Auckland to begin a course in agriculture.

1. The John Logan Campbell Agricultural Scholarship shall have a value determined each year from the interest earned on the capital and be open to 1st Year Massey University students who are enrolled full-time for the Bachelor of AgriCommerce degree, or the agriculture major within either the Bachelor of AgriScience degree or the Bachelor of Science degree.

2. The scholarship shall be awarded annually as funds permit on the recommendation of the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee. The scholarship shall be awarded on academic merit, though preference will be given to applicants from an urban background who intend to pursue a career within the agricultural sector.

3. In recommending the award of the scholarship the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee shall take account of other scholarships and bursaries held with a view to achieving a reasonable distribution of monies among qualifying candidates.

4. The award shall be paid in May.

5. Students who withdraw from their studies during the year in which the scholarship was awarded shall repay the money awarded to them.

Tenure and Value
One Scholarship shall be awarded each academic year to the value of $5,000.

Eligibility
New Zealand and Australian citizens enrolling for full-time study leading to the Degree of Master of Fine Arts in Photography are eligible to apply.

The course of study of the scholarship recipient shall be in the area of contemporary documentary photography. This is to be interpreted broadly and may include photographic inquiry related to personal, social, cultural, political, or community concerns. The principal outcome may be an exhibition, an archive project, a book, or a web exhibition, which together with an extended critical essay will be submitted for examination as required by the MFA regulations.

Criteria
The award will be made to the highest quality Masters project proposal, accompanied by a digital portfolio of photographic work, and a statement about how their work relates to and expands a contemporary understanding of documentary photography.

Conditions of the Award
The award may be held concurrently with other bursaries or scholarships.

The selection committee may refrain from making an award if there is no applicant of sufficient merit.

Should the applicant wish to change the proposed research topic, permission must be sought from the SoFA Director of Post Graduate Studies. Any change must be fully supported by the supervisor. The Chair of the Scholarships Committee must be notified of any significant approved changes.

These regulations may be modified by Massey University from time to time as may be required in accordance with the general intent of the scholarship.

Responsibility for the Award
The Scholarship will be awarded by the Scholarships Committee based upon the recommendations of the selection committee.

The Scholarship will be recommended by a Selection Committee comprising the College of the Creative Arts Scholarships Committee representative (or nominee), the Head of the School of Fine Arts (or nominee), the Director of Photography; and the School of Fine Arts Director of Postgraduate Studies (or nominee).

Payment
The Scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments in March and August subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Closing Date
Applications close with the Executive Assistant, School of Fine Arts on 15 December in the year prior to which the award is to be held. Application forms are available from the School of Fine Arts, Massey University, Private Box 756, Wellington, New Zealand.

The INSEAD Need-based Scholarship(s) category groups the applications for scholarships that will be granted to those who demonstrate and prove significant difficulty in raising sufficient finances for the INSEAD MBA Programme and may be limited in accessing loans. Priority will be given to candidates with a marked socio-economic disadvantage. To be considered for any one of these scholarships (listed below) only one application is required. Successful candidates will receive only one of these awards. The awards are: IAF Diversity, INSEAD Alumni Association (IAA), MBA Class Reunions, Greek Friends of INSEAD, Financial Aid, the Gabel Family and the Bischoff Family, INSEAD Diversity, Ian Potter ’93D and Family Endowed Asia, MBA ’89D Endowed, Antonio Borges Endowed, Deepak and Sunita Gupta Endowed, Sam Akiwumi Endowed and the Russian Alumni Scholarships. For some IAF Diversity scholarships the alumni will actively encourage those receiving an award to make their own contribution to the Alumni Fund in the future.
