Kante strikes me as a more of a box-to-box midfielder than a rigid DM..
the bolded is exactly my point. Many defensive midfielders operate differently. It only depends on the midfield combination. Ndidi and Onyeka are two different types of DM so Nwakali is not competing with Onyeka IMO

Of course it does. But backward passes are worse.
back passes are not....At times, back passes are like a bait, you use them to draw your opponent and when they all assemble in your half, then you break their press with a quick one-twos or with a long pass and then boom! You score.
Arsenal have been scoring this type of goal lately.
PS: this has nothing to do with yesterday's match o. ..

Joezinho:
And how did Nwakali bring calmness to the midfield? grin

By making back passes thereby putting his team under immense pressure? He kept passing it back, he tried to dribble and lost it.... Even ndidi grew tired of the back passes...

The midfield got weaker with Nwakali's introduction. The attacking drive from the midfield reduced..
was there any attacking drive some moments before he came on?
If a coach brought you on to 'keep the ball', you have to even if the only option is back pass. What if he made the forward pass and the receiver lost the ball, won't that also put pressure on the team?
Make una rest abeg... All of them had a great game yesterday.

onyeka is a box to box midfielder (except you haven't been watching brentford's game all season).. Most times he drops back to help initiate buildup and make an impact in the final third but that doesn't make him a pure DM..
Is Kante a b2b midfielder,a DM or a CM?

Immediately Xhaka collected red card, I just switched off my phone and went to bed. I was already expecting some serious thumping rom Liverpool. Make I talk true, the players tried.

Xhaka eh ...is it a coincidence that we stopped qualifying for UCL immediately we signed him?

As for the Spurs match, White or Chambers may partner Lokonga in Midfield.
I heard Azeez is back too.

Anyway, inasmuch as Saka and Martinelli dey, no qualms

In the first 6 minutes there were three long balls straight to Awoniyi. Throughout the game when Omeruo was in trouble he went long Knowing there was an outlet and the outlet was Awoniyi.

Awoniyi is not Drogba or Lukaku but he showed good hold up play and pressed from the front he was pivotal to how we played.

He made it very difficult alongside Moses for Egypt particularly in the first half to get any Rythm. Our Midfield worked their socks off .

Again Awoniyi was pivotal to that.

Imagine Awoniyi had started you think we would be celebrating.❓

Nobody thought to give a long ball to Sadiq like they were doing continuously with Awoniyi. WHY

Nuff Said.
Let me ask you, how many goal attempts did we have within the time that Sadiq came in till the final minute? How many long balls were whipped in for him compared to Awoniyi who played more minutes?

You're Suggesting a 4-1-2-3 formation niyen.

Aribo and Nacho as the -2.

Nice.

Maduka got a crucial save today so I'll overlook the rest for now. grin
not necessarily a 4-1-2-3 we can just find another partner for Ndidi and move Aribo forward. For instance today, when Nacho came off,Onyeka or Nwakali will just partner Ndidi while Aribo moved forward

So how did Awoniyi do it.
Kelechi was there to partner him na. At a time during the game, Kelechi was even ahead of him.
When Kelechi went off, we revered back to 4-2-3-1. Austin must have noticed how isolated Sadiq was upfront which is why (I think) he brought on Iwobi. You could notice We kinda start pressing when Iwobi came on.

We watched different games then.

Sadiq was very lively. Not as strong as I expected but definitely lively. He pressed decently and ran into channels to create chances.
I agree . He was isolated towards the end. There is no way he could have heap pressure on their 4 defenders alone.

I'll take this 1:0 sha but I was expecting us to score more.

And Aribo needs to be moved forward,he is a goal-threat.

Ejuke was disappointing but I no go blame am.

A tap in with your weak foot from about 6 yards to the the goal doesn't make you two footed. Can you take a 20 to 25 yards ACCURATE shot with that same weak foot? Very few strikers can do this.

We have too many good wingers which is the core of our squad to waste it on a 3-5-2 formation.
I know ..the report of the poor goalscoring from the training made me opine such . BTW, apart from Simon, most of our wingers are inverted.
Anyway, they should give us good results.

If we will have a lot of problem scoring goals, I think we should go with three at the back.
Awaziem,Ajayi and Omeruo(Ekong) as the back three. Ndidi and Nwakali as the base. Then the best attacking third partnership IMO will be Henry, Sadiq and Musa; or Ejuke,Kelechi and Samu. Awoniyi will be more suited when we are playing with back 4. Simon na jack of all trade.
In a 3-5-2, Aribo(and Iwobi) will be the third midfielder with a free role kinda.

When the midfield is weak and we need someone to bring in the chaos factor, the Frank can enter.

You were talking rubbish then and you're still talking rubbish now.

Go and check the AFCON 2019 list, Kelechi was there, Kelechi was in World Cup 2018 too. So, how can you claim he was not there?

Which Awoniyi and Sadiq? Did you kill Ahmed Musa? Is he not in the same strike force? Chukwueze too is in our strike force, same as Simon and Onyekuru.

Strike force is the forward line. We have 8 forwards, only 3 of those 8 were not at the last AFCON.

Respect yourself and drop this argument, because you're still arguing in the rubbish.

I no even blame you, na me still dey answer you na wetin make.

If you know you can't quote anybody with courtesy here, abeg swerve

African football is very physical. You can see both coaches making changes at 70minutes but Rohr will not make changes until 87 min or a player is injured. Cameroon got two clear penalties as a result of the reckless challenge. If Eguovoen can get his tactics right , Nigeria may go far
especially with sleeky wingers like Chuks, Onyekuru and Ejuke. I hope those three Sabi act sha grin grin
