Career / Re: Before You Accept That GROSS Salary, Here's Are Steps To Calculate Your Net Pay by Mountbatten: 12:20am On Jul 26, 2023

This Is not explicit enough.
His aim is to determine the net (take home, not.

You did not factor other deductions like pension, medicals etc
N2.8M can not be the NET in your scenario

Pension, medicals and other benefits are not usually added to net to avoid tax on other incentives. Your taxable income is your net and this was just high level accounting.
Career / Re: Before You Accept That GROSS Salary, Here's Are Steps To Calculate Your Net Pay by Mountbatten: 5:01pm On Jul 25, 2023
1st class but can't break down simple concept smh.

Just do 20% of your gross.

For example
Gross: ₦3,500,000
Tax: 20%

Therefore, multiply Gross x Tax to know what government takes from your gross as tax.
₦3,500,000×20% = ₦700,000

To get your net pay, subtract your gross from how much government takes
₦3,500,000 – ₦700,000
Net Pay= ₦2,800,000

To get your monthly pay, divide your net pay by 12
₦2,800,000/12
Monthly pay = ₦233,333.33

In summary, if your gross is ₦3,500,000 with tax at 20%, your net pay is ₦2,800,000 and your salary is ₦233,333.33 or just ask for your payslip.

TV/Movies / Re: Meet The BBNaija "All Stars" 2023 Male Housemates (Profile And Pictures) by Mountbatten: 10:45am On Jul 25, 2023
I really struggle to see what the average simpleton sees in this sort of “reality” TV show.

I blame the high unemployment rate in Nigeria for making these randoms into believing they actually add value to society, as they tend to feel self-important because of their jobless fans.

I really struggle to see what the average simpleton sees in this sort of “reality” TV show.

Took some time to actually go through these profiles, and they seemed so washed up. Lots of “has-been” who don't want to let go of the “spotlight”. I blame the high unemployment rate in Nigeria for making these randoms into believing they actually add value to society, as they tend to feel self-important because of their jobless fans.

Anyone with a salary of 100k and above have no reason whatsoever to complain.

₦100k isn't liveable salary in Lagos. Anything lower than ₦250k for entry level in 2023 is poverty tbh.

To add a bit of context, ₦100k is $117.65…

Are we supposed to feel sorry for you?

How can someone earning this low keep reproducing so many kids? You are an irresponsible person who doesn't deserve any help.

Man up and deal with your own problem.

This is what happens when you focus on your career and forget to build character and personality. Besides her cosy job, what else has she got to offer that makes her stand out from a guy's POV?

The thing about “the abroad” is no one gives a flying toss about you. It's worse if you're a black woman, as you're at the bottom of the dating ladder. My advice is she should go get some real hobbies, begin to volunteer for causes she believes in as a way to meet new people. Join local communities and be humble, as men are not impressed by a woman's career or income.

Men don't want to date men, so women need to stop trying to be one.

Family / Re: Who Are The Real Middle Class In Nigeria? by Mountbatten: 6:07pm On Jul 16, 2023
I've found this thread quite shocking.

In my opinion, anything lower than ₦350,000 – ₦500,000 per month in this current economy cannot be branded middle class.

To add a bit of context, ₦350,000 is $430 while ₦500,000 is $614. How can any reasonable person say that earning this per annum is middle class? ₦500,000 per month isn't as much as you think, just ask those who are around this income bracket. It's average class at best for a single person.

To be truly comfortable in Lagos or Abuja, one should be earning at least ₦750,000 – ₦1,500,000 per month as that gives you enough wiggle room plus decent savings.

Middle class is $1000-$4000 all across Africa.
(So currently: N700k - N3M)

Nigeria 🇳🇬 included.

When you start earning it, you'll notice it's just that -- middle class. (But it can help you live a kind of rich life, if you are wise, meek and honest).

I hope this is per month not annum.

LMAO. What you enlisted is UPPER MIDDLE CLASS kind of spending, not just middle class. Yes, there's such a thing as a lower middle class. My neighbourhood is pretty much middle class & you can get a decent two bedroom for under a million.
You can't include business fuel expense under personal or home expense. It doesn't work that way.
However, 500k per annum is not middle class like the OP stated.

What's this location?

bravehost4u:

Your statistic may justify a particular location but cannot serve as a yardstick to classify one as a middle class.
My Location:
Rent : 360k (2 bed flat in a Middle class area)

That can never be a middle class area in Lagos unless say na container you dey sleep lol!

I'm pretty sure Nigerians will start avoiding the UK, at least those for MSc.
the incentives for them are already wiped off. higher cost equivalent in naira, no dependent, increased visa cost and insurance.
why will anybody be willing to waste £45k for a masters degree in the UK when there are good alternatives like SE Asia, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Canada?

Let's stop pretending a majority of those who go to UK for masters are going there to study. It's an expensive means to an uncertain end.

I am speaking to you as an individual. If your dad was/is a good man, you will still love him whether he is married to your mum or not.

Every woman's gift is conditional and sentimental. Here is an analogy of a sentimental gift from women(Your mum)

" You return home from school and ask your father for 10,000 to buy a text book at school. He will ask you what textbook you want to buy and you may have probably inflated the amount for the textbook. At night, your father stays awake thinking of how he will give you his last 10k for school. Tomorrow morning he calls you and gives you 7k. He give 2k to your mum for food before going to work and he is left with Just 1k. Now he has to pay transport or fuel his car, he has to also buy something to eat from that same 1k.
Now you go back to your room feeling sad that your dad did not give you the complete money. While you are grumbling, your mum squeezes 3k into your hand and tells you 'don't mind your father, he is a stingy man' and immediately you collect the money from her, you feel better and begin to smile and your emotions surpasses your reasoning. You are angry at someone (your dad) who gave you 7k but you are happy with someone who gave you 3k". WOMEN ATTACH SENTIMENTS TO THEIR GIFTS.

Do not misinterpret my message for being misogynistic. I'm just trying to open your mind to properly understand the world and how women think.

Shalom

You sabi how e dey go.

A boy truly becomes a man the moment he's able to understand the sacrifices his father made for the family.
