PoliticsRe: South West Nigeria An Envy Of Other Regions by Movic1(op): 7:57pm On Feb 21, 2016
Education

South Western population today is the most educated as western education came through there and education as a resource was democratized since the early sixties. Geographical location, democratization of western education, availability of resources enhanced in last 9 years and some empowerment during the Obasanjo administration have collectively enabled the South Western economy to rank as first in west africa economies.
South west has probably the highest number of Universities, Polytechnics,Colleges,Secondary and Primary schools in in Nigeria.

Poverty Rate

According to the MPI Report, as at 2010, 46% of Nigerians lived below the national poverty line (Only 28% in Urban areas, and near 70% in The rural). Although a Report by the World bank, released in 2014, showed that only 33% of Nigerians could be considered Poor.

South West as a region can boast of having a defined growing middle class and is perceived to have at least 50,000 of its indigenes with net worth of over N100m each.
PoliticsSouth West Nigeria An Envy Of Other Regions by Movic1(op): 7:56pm On Feb 21, 2016
South-Western political zone of Nigeria comprises Oyo State, Lagos State, Ogun State, Ondo State, Osun State and Ekiti State. The people of the South-West are not limited to the Yoruba which constitute the majority tribe, but also include the non-Yoruba who number about ten million people.
South West part of Nigeria is the most secure and peaceful part of Nigeria today many non-Yoruba people who have settled peacefully for years in different parts of Yorubaland, have mastered Yoruba language with its delicate dialects, contest for political posts, have inter-married etc.
The South-West zone is richly blessed with fertile land, vigorous and sturdy people.

Economy

South Western Nigeria with a Land Mass of 76,852 square kilometres and population of 25.2 million today owns and/or control 60% of the nation’s industrial capacity, 44% of banking assets, 67% of insurance assets and is house to the nation’s three deep sea ports of Apapa, Tin Can Island and Roro; the busiest international airport of Ikeja, three thermal stations of Egbin, Papalanto and Omotosho.
Southwest has an estimated GDP of about N67 trillion naira( about $305 billion US dollars), more than half of the GDP of the nation.
By my estimates, the Southwest region was the third largest economy in the continent of Africa n 2014! This must be a shock or a pleasant surprise to many people.
Take it out of Nigeria, the South West economy with is defined growing middle class and resources, will be one of the fastest growing economies in the world.

Industries

It is no more news, that Ogun state in South-Western Nigeria is the new juggernaut in the fields of Industry and Academic institutions. It can be said that the state is currently experiencing an unprecedented industrial revolution, as an ever increasing stream of Companies, Industries and firms are beginning to site production plants, Warehouses and all kind of facilities in the state, From Dangote's Ibeshe plant (The largest in Africa), to various new Industrial and Power plants in the state, the new manufacturing plants that have commenced production in Ogun State belong to the biggest industrial concerns in the world, and are by no means minnow.
Today, South west four major industrial estates of Agbara, Ikeja ,oluyole and Otta are all linked to gas under the West African gas pipeline plan and piping of gas is ongoing from Otta to Abeokuta.
While Lagos is undoubtedly ahead as the main station in terms of the service industry establishments, where the headquarters of banks, major business concerns and also the Stock Exchange and other financial centres are located, Ogun has also been accelerating towards emerging as the centre of industrial activities. Presently, investors in the manufacturing sector actually consider Ogun State a more alluring and conducive site for their activities. These investors have been drifting into the state at an unprecedented rate in the last three years, From the Sango Otta axis to Agbara, Ewekoro, Ibese, Ifo, Ibafo, Magboro and Sagamu, where numerous major manufacturing firms have registered their presence.

The Yorubas are at it again.

They are spreading rumours of a burning of a mosque in onitsha and are following it up with a fake demand from arewa youth to leave the north.

I have warned and continue to warn you yorubas that the war you wish for the better south will rebound back on you.

If there is another genocide in the north over this fake mosque burning, know that that will only strengthen the cause of the Biafrans in the international community and lead to outright declaration of secession.

You might end up doing the bidding of the Biafrans and sealing your slavery to the house of Don Fodio.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the arrest of media mogul, Mr Raymond Dokpesi and other opposition elements by the APC-led Federal Government.

In a statement on Tuesday by the spokesman for the PDP, Mr Olisa Metuh, the opposition party said the military style of pronouncement of guilt on Chief Dokpesi before any fair hearing, showed he was a victim of political persecution and mob trial by the APC government because of his association with the PDP.
Mr Dokpesi was arrested on Tuesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission .
He was picked up in Abuja at about noon on Tuesday and was accompanied to the office of the EFCC by his son Raymond Dokpesi Jnr., who is the current Chairman of Daar Communications.
The Head of Media in the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, told Channels Television that Chief Dokpesi was arrested in connection with money disbursed from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

PoliticsOsun Inaugurates N750m School Named After Soyinka by Movic1(op): 7:57am On Nov 24, 2015
Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has described the Federal Government’s failure to rescue the missing Chibok girls as shameful.
Soyinka enjoined the nation’s leaders to ensure that children were brought up to respect one another’s religion.
According to him, sincere efforts must be made to ensure that school children were not differentiated along religious lines for a better Nigeria.
He spoke yesterday at the inauguration of the N750 million Wole Soyinka Government High School in Ejigbo, Osun State.
It was the first in the mega schools series under the education reform programme of the Rauf Aregbesola administration.
The literary giant described the school as an “emphatic rejection of what Boko Haram insurgents preach”.
The school is a 3,000-capacity complex with 72 classrooms of 49 square-metre, each capable of sitting 49 pupils. It has six offices for study groups.
It is equipped with six laboratories, 18 toilets for girls and 18 for boys, one science library, one arts library, facility manager’s office, a bookshop and a sick bay.
Soyinka praised Aregbesola, saying he was elated that such honour was bestowed on him. He pledged to visit the school often to see how it was faring.
His words: “It is a shame that the nation cannot account for over 200 girls in Chibok. I sympathise with the religious policy of governments in school; children must not be brought up feeling that religion inhibits knowledge.
“In schools, we need not distinguish our children, the fatalistic religious holiness and the holier-than-thou attitude must be reduced among our pupils.”
Aregbesola said although the cost of the school was huge, he noted that it was a worthy investment.
The governor promised that within the first quarter of next year his government would inaugurate another set of schools in the same category.
