I maintain that dangote refinery need to ignore corrupt Nigerian leadership and focus on an export driven business plan. Nigeria is too corrupt. The people are so used to suffering that you cannot fight for them. They will align with corruption and fight you back. Did you see the hungry area boys chasing people away for protesting against hunger?
Dang refinery, amongst other benefits, has the capacity to mitigate the fx crisis we are facing, but...

It is purely for him to maximize profit. If it is possible for him to ignore Nigeria crude and market,I am not sure if he would be this agitated.

MTN has a business model of taking profit out of Nigeria in $$$'s from the naira it generates from users in Nigeria.
MTN must have repatriated the original dollars it invested in multiples. But because it's a foreign concern that generates no dollars as it exports nothing out of the country to generate dollars, MTN as it is today, is not good for the economy. As it will need the dollars businesses who have export streams that generate dollars. Most of Nigeria's dollars come from crude oil sales. MTN will always be in need of sucking this dollars away. To solve this problem, MTN needs to start a subsidiary that can generate dollars from Nigeria's comparative advantage. Perhaps it should invest in Cocoa or Palm Oil (like PRESCO) for export. Without something like this MTN, will continue to put pressure on the relative little $$$'s Nigerian companies generate.

But only a profit making company can repatriate or export $. Mtn has not made profit since this govt took over so they cannot export $. It shouldn't therefore be said that they are not good for the economy.

Oga nothing will happen if they leave.Imfact nigeria will be better. They should leave as soon as possible. I don't really use thr network. I only use them to receive calls for long because it is my first line people know me with.I use airtel for data which is very ok and far cheaper

Airtel equally has similar fx issue with mtn, they are both foreign companies.

I have never seen a company that loves our forex reserves like your beloved MTNN.

Not an MTN defender. But with all due respect, the 15billion you talk about was not stolen from government or nigerians. It was money made in the course of their legitimate business and they needed to repatriate same in order to pay dividends to their shareholders.

Companies doing business in other countries are usually allowed to freely repatriate profits. Not just Nigeria.

Bad governance and corruption in Nigeria has made it difficult for foreign companies to repatriate profits.
It is the same reason Nigeria had issues with UAE and some other countries, and also the same reason some other companies had to leave.
Thats why the current government is making serious efforts to ensure that enough $ is made available for foreign companies to repatriate profits.

No serious company will come to Nigeria to invest if they cannot return their profits.

Believe it or not, and with all due respect to nigerian telecoms companies, if MTN leaves Nigeria, there will be serious problem.

Go and read Airtel recent report, especially the explanatory notes, they specifically mentioned the negative impact their Nigerian arm had on their profit for the period.

So Dangsugar records bad result, investors take it out on NASCON shareprice.

Meanwhile Buafoods is still doing well, I wonder why DS keeps releasing all these bad results abi na them dey take all the fx losses for the entire industry?
