In the history of nigerian military coup, there have never been a yoruba coup even though many of their officers died during coups.

The next coup was a revenge coup lead by northern officers who were angry that the sultan of sokoto , their muslim leader was killed and also because the igbo military head didnt punish the igbo coup plotters.

The northern coup brought Gowon a Christian officer, then core northern organised another coup and brought in a muslim general, murtala Mohammed, he was assassinated in a coup by a middle belt officer, a loyalist of Gowon, colonel dimka, after murtal's assassination, his deputy Obasanjo a christian yoruba became the head of state, he then handed over to a civilian from the north shehu shagari, who was also remove by a coup by buhari, a northern.
