asorocker: Agriculture doesn't not account for that much of the economy other wise farmers would have been controlling the economies of Nigerian states. Agriculture is good but not earning much revenue due to economies of scale His claim on Agriculture was the biggest lie ever but as always I politely asked him to back it up. I'm still waiting for his proof. |

omonnakoda: That is your own perception. You folk alway delude yourselves you are better than everyone else. Are you more of a hustler than the Fulani who walks from Sokoto to PH with his cows facing hostile humans and beasts on the way? Leave that self indulgent Ibo tale for your village entertainment. Everyone hustles in the way that they have aptitude for. The fact of the matter is the greatest economic activity in Nigeria today more than oil or anything else is agriculture. That is an indisputable fact. Now what do Ibos contribute to agriculture in Nigeria? Instead you continue making empty boasts about how Onitsha market is the largest in the Milky Wayand the US Army buys drones there.
Once again Agriculture accounts for more than 70% of Nigerian economy .What is the Ibo contribution? Questionable comments. Based on what survey, study or statistical data do you base the conclusion that the Nigerian economy depends on Agriculture,up to 70%? |

OfoIgbo: Also note that in the whole of Nigeria, the two LGAs with the largest oil reserves are the Igbo LGAs of Oyigbo and Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni both in Rivers state.
So basically Igbos are sitting pretty gas-wise and oil-wise The thread is actually meant as a point of contribution towards post-oil Niger-Delta economy. We know we have oil and gas but here we're looking at life after oil in Niger-Delta. |

OfoIgbo: The waters and land can be cleaned up. I will even encourage the governments of Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, imo, Abia and Akwa Ibom to make such cleanups, a priority before it is too late.
Seaports will be needed at Akwaibom (Ibaka), Abia (Obuaku), Imo (Oguta lake), PH, Ubani, Opobo and Bayelsa.
Presently in the eastern region, the following states are prepared for the post-oil Nigeria... Anambra, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Abia. With minor tweaks, the other eastern states will be ready Noted. |

The ND will still get more revenue from oil than Osun.
So never mind about us, go and ask your rascal governor why monthly allocations from Abuja are now jus 55 million naira. Lol. Man you're funny. Why would you think I'm from Osun? Aregbesola is not my governor. Please aim right. |

asorocker: First kano started off as a very big city of Commerce. The first plane landed in kano. But what do we have today, kano has not maintained the position of city of Commerce.
A look at the Igr of kano is discouraging at barely N13b per annum which is below the expected threshold. Kano doesn't measure of in the academic world too as kano ranks very low despite its huge population.
Kano does not have any industrial hub functioning as the textile industry is gone. Kano populace are not schooled in the business of entrepreneurship. Now for kano to generate enough revenue to fund its recurrent expenditure which is more than N6b it would go for broke. Kano budgeted N219b with recurrent of N70b and capital N148, meanwhile the igr of kano was just N13b for 2014 Which can not even fund the recurrent for 2 months He won't admit to these "truths". |

Just a little explanation would do. I dont want to start long arguments I think you got his perspective wrong. He's saying that: In the absence of crude oil revenue supporting some states. how will these states generate their own income to help themselves. |

asorocker: The decline of the oil industry is going to be worse on the states of Lagos and kano.
Lagos because an analysis of the igr of Lagos shows that Lagos derived it's revenue from the income tax and the income tax bulk is from the oil workers whose offices are in Lagos. The oil and gas component of the Lagos igr is more than 40% of the igr. Income tax paid by high earning oil and gas industry executive who gross average of N5m monthly has helped Lagos
Secondly kano will be the worst hit as the only state whose take home is equivalent to the take home of niger delta states with their 13% derivative.
Kano doesn't have the human capital to generate income tax.
Third state /city is Abuja. It is said that Abuja was built with oil money, where would the money to sustain and maintain Abuja come from if not the same money from niger delta.
Some states like kwara, benue, adamawa can easily with agriculture fight the downturn of their economy, how would sokoto, yobe, jigawa whose populace don't farm and whose land is far from economic centres for export of agricultural products survive.
The next in line are the hausa cities of katsina, batching, kaduna who benefitted from the lopsided federal allocations. Now that the oil wealth is going and there is no human capital we hope they will not turn to insurgency as a means of raising attention and revenue.
The states that would enjoy and be kings in the new dispensation.
Anambra, Nigeria's brain box and commercial hub will have its non oil economy growth unequalled and unrivaled. Anambra survived with no oil allocation managed the little it had and built an enabling environment for investments.
Akwa Ibom, this state was blessed with resources and good managers who used it very well to grow infrastructure and are currently working on a sea port.
Abia this state hosts aba, Nigeria's city of enterprise and football, aba is living beyond oil already. Nice analysis though I doubt Abuja will be hugely affected. it's the seat of power. |

TonyeBarcanista: Niger Delta is very rich. Before crude oil we were rich in palm oil. In fact, we were called Oil Rivers(Rivers, Warri and Bayelsa states) for a reason. We have rich lland for agriculture and our waters were used for fishing. Though our land and waters have been polluted due to oil exploration. We are rich in gas with abundant gas reserve. Whether oil become worthless or not we won't suffer. We will only adjust.
Most importantly, we have access to see and can easily capitalised on it.
@OP cry not for the Niger Delta. We will do just fine! Thank you for saying "...were used for fishing" cause the waters now are "flowing poison" which is very pitiable. As for the palm-oil let's wait and see |

I wonder what they can muster. Good question. Crude oil has being their contribution for time immemorial,I wonder what they have to offer in a post-oil Nigerian economy. |

The damage caused by oil exploration on their environment has not been tackled and now the oil is becoming "useless". If the downward trend continues the region will lose it's "relevance" and they'll become a laughing stock in the scheme of things because they've been made lazy by their oil benefits/entitlements. The future is quite bleak for the region unless they seat up and help themselves. |

asorocker: I think Igbos will take a hit from the oil price decline but not much compared to other people in the South like the Niger delta whose budget will fall below redemption as only 830B will be available for budget however i think only N211B will be available for 13% derivation sharing for all the Niger delta stat Can someone confirm. But on a more serious note , the fall in oil price might really hit yoruba companies below the belt like mad , i see a huge drop in the finances of yoruba owned companies and the corresponding yoruba banks handling their finances like GTB , first bank , skye bank and sterling bank which is already looking for a merging partner to escape the regulators prying eyes, Wema bank is already gone with the wind of oil price fall.
some of the companies already taking the hit include Oando that made a record loss of N140b for the last business year i dont really see how Oando might recover and become more profitable even if buhari gives Tinubu more oil wells , where will he sell the oil wells .
Conoil is virtually written off just waiting for the banks to come with underwriters and debt recovery experts as their revenue has dropped drastically for the second year running triggering a pull out by shareholders from the company stocks Adenuga just relinquished control over his bank to sterling bank which i heard was looking for a merging partner last week in Victoria Island or an outright buy off.
AP made a smart move by investing in power but for how long will the stay afloat since GEJ is no longer there to be influenced by obasanjo to bend the rules for them moreover as power stabilizes nobody will require their diesel anymore . Folwaiyo group which has received the hammer of DPR with capital oil over subsidy issues is already gone as the subsidy money which they all struggled over is gone i do not foresee future for the energy arm of the group.
Also oil price drops further to the $20 mark more Nigerian Billionaires who made fortune from oil like Mike Adenuga , Mrs Alakija and Otedola will be welcome back to the thousandnaires club which they belonged prior to 1999 , Nigerians should expect sell of yatches , private airlines belonging to these people and estates as the cut their expenditure to size.
Jimoh Ibrahim's case is just a case for another day as the Nairaland servers will not contain the number of pages of analysis of his fall from the billionaire cadre and the ruining of Air Nigeria, Nicon and his oil company. Oh I just love analysis. the God-forsaken op should learn from posts like. Analytic not dumb! |

EUROBOMBER: Udmaster, thank you for this thread. I have said it many times that Igbo nation should be separated from Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB. Just imagine the silly speech about wrappers. Imagine Kanu asking his followers to rise up and attack Pastor Kumuyi and kill Yorubas! Is that how he intends to get Biafra? What has a man of God got to do with his agitation?
I believe we Igbos can get a lot of what we want if we play our cards right in Nigeria but the reason why I get involved in all this Biafra talk is incase Nigeria eventually breaks up.
The Igbos will not force any tribe to be part of us but will accept any tribes that choose to be with us. All I am trying to point out is that Igboland is much bigger than the SE as defined by Nigeria, Igboland spreads into Delta & Rivers states. If Nigeria breaks we will take all our lands with us. The rest of the "We SS" people like tonyebarcanista and his likes can then form their ND republic. Thank God ijawcitizen has recognised this fact.
Another thing fundamentally wrong with Nnamdi Kanu's approach is that he did not make wide spread consultations, you cannot just sit down in UK, draw any map you like and begin to circulate as Biafra, this is the reason why these minorities are calling us expantionists. Consultation is key in this very critical issues. For instance if there happens to be any sort of agreement between the Igbos and the SS people to form any country the name cannot be Biafra, the name would be agreed by negotiations. Secondly we can go for a rgional system of government whereby we have two regions i.e. SE & SS. Each region would control it's resources and pay 20% to the center to fund a united formidable military. We can have a president and prime minister such that ifsay the SE produces the president, the SS would produce prime minister and vice versa.
This way, a society built on fairness and justice can be formed. This issue calls for a lot of mental work and not someone asking people to start killing their neighbours from one radio Biafra. As for the true size of Igboland, Cheruv has the map. you have spoke well but tell me,ndi ijo agekwete ihe nine I suggesti? Maka ndia egosigo m na ha maro Ife. |

martineverest: this is one fact that people don't know.. Once u write Edo off,u automatically write urhobo, itsekiri, anioma, ikwerres and partly ijaw off. Void must monarchs of this tribes see oba of Benin as their superior and chief commander. Lost monarchs from these tribes are from oba palace origin.a good example is dein of agbor. When he became the youngest monarch in history of Nigeria, his relatives wanted to eliminate him, causing heavy commotion in that region. To settle the brouhaha, he was sent to oba of Benin's palace for protection and grooming. The current dein grew up in bini palace and his education in UK was sponsored by oba. Remove Anioma from whatever you wrote there please. |
