captainprogress: Thirteen days to her wedding and 29th birthday, a corps member, Miss Omolola Abogunrin, has been murdered by unknown criminals.
She was murdered in a sultry afternoon in the compound of an agriculture research institute located in Apata area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Sunday.
The late Miss Abogunrin was said to have been raped and strangled beside a stream within the expansive premises of the National Cereal Research Institute, Moor Plantation, Ibadan at about 1:30 pm.
Police are still on the trail of the murderers.
The deceased was looking forward to her wedding which was scheduled for October 17, the day she would have been 29 years old.
A close source disclosed that the couple-to-be held their family introduction four months ago, paving the way for proper marriage ceremony.
The wedding was to hold at a Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan where both lovers live.
It was learnt that sympathizers confirmed rape and strangulation through the semen found on her private part and nail wounds around her neck respectively on discovering her corpse.
Residents said the deceased was returning from church when she was waylaid by the unknown criminals in a bush path within the institute’s farmland. She was said to be on her way to her lover’s house to spend some time with a plan to return home afterwards.
Her lover, Olusola Babalola, has since been arrested and detained by the police.
Omolola graduated from the Polytechnic, Ibadan.
She was completing her one year compulsory national service in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, as at the time of her death.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said Omolola’s corpse has since been deposited at the morgue of state hospital, Adeoyo.
He explained that her lover, Mr. Babalola, was arrested and detained as part of police investigation on the broad-day murder.
Ajisebutu also disclosed that the case has since been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the command, stressing that the command would do everything to bring Omolola’s killers to book.

Politics › Amnesty International : Pro-biafrans Are Targeted By Police by Mrchippychappy(op): 10:25pm On Sep 10, 2015 |
There is evidence that pro-Biafran separatists in Nigeria are targeted by police, Amnesty International told IBTimes UK, one day after dozens of people belonging to groups advocating for a separate state were arrested.
It is believed that dozens of members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafran (Massob) were arrested after the inspector general of police, Solomon E Arase, released a statement urging authorities to clamp down on people who behaved violently across the country. The statement read: "This directive becomes imperative owing to recent activities of members of the Massob and the Indigenous People of Biafra [Ipob] in some parts of the country."
The number of people arrested, originally thought to be around 200, was confirmed by the police to stand at 22. Four people were arrested in Anambra State, six in Imo, one in Abia and 11 in Delta State. They were all Massob members.
Amnesty said that after speaking with "dozens of Biafran activists" in the last few years, they believe that pro-Biafrans are targeted by police. A spokesperson for the group said: "There is credible evidence that they have been arbitrarily arrested, tortured and jailed in the past. They are still targeted by the police."
The spokesperson added that according to estimates from one of the group's researchers, there could be "at least two dozen Biafran activists in almost every prison in the south east of Nigeria".
When contacted by IBTimes UK, Oleehkukyu Ali, spokesperson for the police in Anambra – one of the states where the Biafran activism is mostly widespread – said:" Recently, in this and other states in the country there has been a kind of excitement from members of pro-Biafran groups, and this excitement has led to their processions to become chaotic.
"So the police received instructions that anybody who incites in the name of any group people to go on processions that are violent in nature should be arrested."
Pro-Biafran activists have also alleged that the Nigerian police act violently against them. Unconfirmed reports said that three or four unarmed members of Ipob were killed by the Navy in Onitsha, Anambra, on 30 August.
Ifeanyi Adibe, a member of Ipob, told IBtimes UK that mass arrests, kidnappings, torture and killings of pro-Biafrans are "not a new thing". He alleged: "Hundreds are known to have been abducted in the middle of the night from their homes and [they] undergo torture in various underground Nigerian torture chambers. Many more are unaccounted for. The number of those already killed can not yet be established, but we know many are missing.
"The total lack of infrastructure and communication system has made it near impossible to get real time information of, or from Biafra terror victims," he continued. "We are monitoring the situation as close as the blackout allows us, but more importantly, we are having serious challenge convincing our dying and over stretched people to still remain calm and non-violent or fight back in legitimate self-defence."
Ali rejected the allegations of violence. He said: "We do not have any problem with pro-Biafrans here, the police are not violent against them. Any group has the right to associate, but if such group wants to do any procession, they should do it within the ambit of the law.
"Processions and demonstrations should not be detrimental to the state," he continued. "They should be done in line with the constitution, without violating the law of the land or infringe people's rights. But these groups went on a rampage in a number of areas, they caused a lot of traffic congestion and damages. But even when police was deployed, there was no violence, no problem at all.
"Pro-Biafrans are not considered as a threat, but inciting people to [participate] in violent processions is against the law and no government watches any group operates under such conditions." http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/nigeria-credible-evidence-that-pro-biafrans-are-targeted-by-police-says-amnesty-international-1519127 |

Why don't they place these ridiculous restrictions on politicians, public office holders and their associates? Wetin concern average Nigerians and cash limitation? The FG would probably say that the cash withdrawal limitation is another way of fighting corruption. besides the article talks about limiting NAIRA cash withdrawals. As usual na banks go dey win, to withdraw a certain amount of money you would have to use the ATM like 3 or 4 times and then the bank would apply their charges to your multiple transaction. A system devised by the government and the financial institutions to fleece money from the populace. Change indeed. Brace yourselves people. |

Politics › Shame On Nairaland Moderators by Mrchippychappy(op): 6:14pm On Aug 03, 2015 |
I find it strange that a thread like this https://www.nairaland.com/2496644/13-reasons-why-embraced-islam would be allowed to stay up on Nairaland and even go as far as making the front page. That thread was clearly made to destroy the image of Christianity. Lots of lies there and what makes it worse is that those from other beliefs cannot respond to the lies on that thread as there is some kind of mandatory oath you have to take before making a post there : "I believe that there no god/God but Allah." "I believe that Muhammad is God's Holy Prophet." "I believe that Islam is the Only True Religion." "lā ʾilāha ʾillā-llāh, muhammadun rasūlu-llāh." Anyone waiting for me to agree with the text written above is clearly wasting his or her time LOL. A religion that tries to suppress the opinion of others is no true religion to me, the bible says you shall know the truth, this other religion on the other hand wants to force their point of view on everybody. Here are the lies that was posted on that thread above : I GOT 13 VALID REASONS WHY AND HOW MUSLIMS ARE LIKE Jesus (PBUH) AND TRUER FOLLOWERS OF Jesus THAN MOST CHRISTIANS BELIEVE:
1. Jesus (pbuh) taught that there is only One God and Only God should be worshipped as taught in Deut 6:4, Mark 12:29. Muslims also believe this as taught in the Qur’an verse 4:171.
2. Jesus (pbuh) didn’t eat pork as taught in Leviticus 11:7 , and neither do Muslims as taught in the Qur’an verse 6:145. - Was there any account of Jesus christ refusing to eat pork in the bible?
3. Jesus (pbuh) greeted with the words “as salaamu alaikum” (Peace be with you) in John 20:21. Muslims also greet each other this way.- Clearly using Arabic translation to mess up the true meaning of Jesus Christ teachings.
4. Jesus (pbuh) always said “God Willing” (inshallah), Muslims say this too before doing anything as taught in the Qur’an verses 18:23-24. -My Muslims brothers are clearly lost in translation here again
5. Jesus (pbuh) washed his face, hands, and feet before praying. The Muslims do the same.-- Another one here, Jesus ALWAYS washed his face before praying? In what bible did you come across this.
6. Jesus (pbuh) and other prophets of the Bible prayed with their head to the ground (see Matthew26:39). Muslims do too as taught in the Qur’an verse 3:43.
7. Jesus (pbuh) had a beard and wore a throbe. It is Sunnah for Muslim men to do the same.
8. Jesus (pbuh) followed the law and believed in all the prophets, (see Matthew 5:17). Muslims do too as taught in the Qur’an verses 3:84, and 2:285.
9. Jesus’ mother Maryam (pbut) dressed modestly by fully covering her body and wearing a headscarf (hijab) as found in 1 Timothy 2:9, Genesis 24:64-65, and Corinthians 11:6. Muslim women modestly dress the same as taught in the Qur’an verse 33:59.
10. Jesus (pbuh) and other prophets of the Bible fasted up to 40 days (see Exodus 34:28, Daniel 10:2-6. 1Kings 19:8, and Matthew 4:1-Muslims do so also during the month of Ramadan. Muslims are required to fast the full obligatory 30 days (see Qur’an 2:183), and others take it a step further by fasting an additional 6 days to increase their rewards.
11. Jesus (pbuh) taught to say “Peace to this house” when entering it (see Luke 10:5), and to also greet the people in the house with “peace be unto you”. Muslims do exactly what Jesus did and taught. When we enter our homes and the homes of others we say “Bismillah” and also greet with “as salaamu alaikum” (peace be upon you) as taught in the Qur’an verse 24:61.
12. Jesus (pbuh) was circumcised. Circumcision is 1 of the 5 fitrah in Islam, so Muslim men are required to be circumcised. According to the Bible in Luke 2:21, Jesus was eight days old when he was circumcised. In the Torah, Allah/God stated to the Prophet Abraham (pbuh) that it is an “Everlasting covenant” (see Genesis 17:13). In the Qur’an verse 16:123 Muslims are required to follow the religion of Abraham. The Prophet Muhammad (saws) said, “The Prophet Abraham circumcised himself when he was eighty years old.” (see Sahih hadith Bukhari, Muslim, and Ahmad).
13. Jesus (pbuh) spoke aramaic and called God”Elah”, which is pronounced the same as “Allah”. Aramaic is an ancient, Biblical language. It is one of the Semitic languages that also include Hebrew, Arabic, Ethiopic and the ancient Assyrian and Babylonian language of Akkadian. The Aramaic”Elah” and the Arabic “Allah” are the same. The Aramaic “Elah” is derived from the Arabic “Allah”, and it means “GOD”. “Allah” in Arabic also means”GOD”, the Supreme GOD Almighty. You can easilysee the similarity in their pronunciation so this concludes that the God of Jesus is also the God of the Muslims, of all mankind, and all that exist. Now tell me who is the real follower of Jesus (pbuh)? Obviously Muslims. Now I believe am a true follower of Jesus PBUH I am a surprised at what makes the front page these days. When would these comparisons stop? Stick to your religion and leave others to stick to THEIR religion. You cannot force your religion on me and I would not fold my hands while someone goes around peddling lies against Jesus Christ. |

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – In its Iraqi stronghold of Mosul, the Islamic State (ISIS) group is banning residents from performing prayers on one of the most important Muslim feasts, controversially claiming the practice does not belong in the religion.
Ismat Rajab, a Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official for Mosul who now lives in the Kurdistan region, told Rudaw that the radical group has warned residents to avoid prayers for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan in about a week.
He said ISIS was claiming that the Eid prayer is not “originally an Islamic practice” and was not performed in Prophet Mohammad’s time.
Since the ISIS takeover of Mosul last year, the jihadis have been imposing new rules and regulations, backed by strict punishments that include the threat of death for offenders.
Eid al-Fitr, also called the Feast of Breaking the Fast, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting. Although a religious practice, the prayer preformed on the first day after Ramadan also is a cultural event. http://tribune.com.pk/story/918462/is-bans-eidul-fitr-prayers-in-iraq-calls-it-non-islamic/ |
