Update From . COM A Medical doctor, Dr Samuel Nyityo Tagher, has died of Lassa fever in Makurdi, the Benue State capital. The deceased doctor, who was a staff of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Benue, is said to have taken ill and was referred to Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State, where he later died. Three persons including the doctor lost their lives to the disease, according to a hospital staff who pleaded anonymity to newsmen in a telephone message on Monday. However, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services in Benue State, Dr Joseph Ngbea confirmed that there was Lassa fever in the state but debunked the claim that three persons had died from the disease. Ngbea said only one person has died and another who was infected is being treated and in a stable condition in the hospital. "Only Dr Nyityo died. Nobody is in a critical position. The other person is in a stable condition," Ngbea said. While noting that the state government is doing its best to contain the disease, the commissioner explained that before the diagnosis of the Lassa fever, State Governor Samuel Ortom, through the ministry, had released money to ensure that it was contained. Ngbea, who also confirmed that the late Dr Nyityo worked for WHO, said Governor Ortom had gone to take over the payment but they said no that the organisation released the purchase of drugs worth N600,000 to be given to anybody who contacts the disease. The commissioner, who advised the public to stop eating rodents, disclosed that the WHO has urged that the public ensure that anybody who contracts the disease is taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital BSUTH within 20 minutes. Ngbea further warned the general public to desist from keeping their foodstuffs outside in the open and to do away with everything that would attract rats to their homes. "For Lassa fever, the vector is rat. For the doctor, we discovered that last year, two people had Lassa fever in his compound. This means that there is a species of rat that moves around in that area and poaches on people’s food. People should stop the idea of keeping food outside on the ground and people should be discouraged from eating rat," he said. "People should also keep away anything that would encourage rats to enter their homes. Those are the preventive measures. Apart from that, people should also see the doctor if they have a fever," Ngbea said the ministry would organise a workshop on Lassa fever in the state to create more awareness on why people should not keep anything that would encourage rats into their homes. Update From . COM A mother and two of her children have been charged in the death of her six year-old son after they lied that he was missing after he was killed. Damari Perry, 6, was reported missing on January 5 by his mother Jannie Perry, 38, and his 20-year-old brother, Jeremiah R. Perry. They told authorities that he may have gone missing in Skokie, Illinois, where he and his 16-year-old sister were going to a party, according to NBC 5 Chicago. When police questioned the sister, she reportedly told officers that she fell asleep after having several drinks and woke up to find that Damari and the man who had driven them were gone. But investigators quickly uncovered several lies in the story from the mum and siblings based on evidence they found in Skokie, and instead turned their attention to the boy's North Chicago home. They interviewed several juvenile witnesses at the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center, who led them to find Damari's body near an abandoned home in Gary, Indiana. On Friday, January 7, Damari's mother and two of his siblings were brought into custody. His 20-year-old brother, Jeremiah R. Perry, (pictured top right) was charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a child under 12, concealing a homicidal death and obstructing justice. He is being held on a $3 million bond. According to police, Damari was punished by being placed in a cold shower for an undetermined amount of time prior to his death. He reportedly 'did something to upset the family' . At some point, Damari vomited and was then taken out of the shower, but he eventually died. Prosecutors claim the relatives did not call for medical help and instead spun the 'completely false' story about Skokie. Damari's mother, Jannie, is now charged with first-degree murder, concealment of a homicidal death and obstructing justice. More charges could be filed against the family as the investigation continues. 'Our hearts ache over the murder of 6-year-old Damari Perry,' Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart said in a statement. 'We would not have reached the awful truth of this case without the work of the FBI, the North Chicago Police Department and the investigators and staff at the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center.' 'Prosecutors, investigators and victim support professionals worked Source: https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2022/1/mum-is-charged-with-murder-after-her-missing-son-6-was-found-dead.html
