The reality is here, how many people are still at looking for admission? Find something to do. Buy UTME and read for next JAMB. |
Dclique:This is great news. I pray the extortion is reduced drastically and brilliant people get the opportunity to pursue their dreams. |
They are currently in Ibadan. Been taught introduction to programming (system design), java and c++. |
Hello All, Four students studying software engineering at Highland College of Technology need a place for their 3 months SIWES program. This will be an opportunity for them to gain some experience and apprenticeship with professionals. Many think that industrial attachment means training, but really its just for exposure during which they learn. The management of the instituition as well as the students will be grateful. You just need to assign tasks to them and assess what they have done and what they know. You dont have to take all the four students and dont have to pay them allowance. Thank you, your response will be received gratefully. You may email your interest to us at highlandcollegeng@yahoo.com www.highlandcollegeng.com Best regards. |
Whao!!! Institutions will make lots of money off students next year o, enough scratch cards, enough post-UTMEs. Admission officers will reap off so many. See money!!! God help us. If you dont have admission already, I feel so sorry for you, admission is not free and fair anymore. What am I even saying, exams are not free and fair, so I guess its balanced. Except there is a cry to government, there is nothing anyone of you can do about it. Pay for JAMB #4,500 scratch card for centre # 500 scratch card for result # 500 pay for 6 post UTME #6,000- #18,000 Scratch card for result # 500 Travel to 6 Post UTME centres#6,000-#12,000 An average value of about #27,000, now imagine the amount in only a 100,000 places. That is over 2.7billion Naira on admission runs only. I was just being conservative by working with 100,000. Last UME JAMB was taken by 1,145,961 candidates. I am working with an average 10% of candidates being successful. Admission run has a great economic importance as you can see. For those who will settle supervisor and admission officers, una just begin to spend. Good luck all the same. Read hard o, prepare well and pass the JAMB exam to get the highest score. I will keep praying for all of you. |
I would love to answer you question, but instead of doing that, giving you fish, I prefer to teach you how to fish. browse to www.google.com type your question or search for IT 1st then search for IE if you get links pointing to wikipedia, click on it an READ. Same goes for any other questions you may have. Google is vast and wiki is provided by very intelligent people. You can't miss your way when you ask the right people. Good luck. Note: I wrote read in capitals because it is essential to read in order to learn/know. |
Dear All, Please be informed, it is stated in your jamb brochure that JAMB reserves the right to send your details to any other institution other than those which you have chosen in your application. Therefore, It is possible to get admission into an institution you have not applied to. Starharris, if you are interested in this University that has offered you admission, go for it, else get another JAMB form. Why? JAMB only sends your details to other schools when the main schools have finished admitting the students they want. If anyone is still promising you space to wait and asking you to bring money, they are only going to milk you. For JAMB to have sent your name to another school, it means you have not gotten admission ito your first and second choices. I dont know the university that sent you SMS, but they wont have your phone number if JAMB did not provide it. Which means, you dont currently have admission anywhere else. Goodluck. |
Point of correction "millitants" not "ex-millitants" until they behave otherwise. I am neither condemning or praising them, I just believe as a man thinketh so is he, these men will always be millitant except they start to think otherwise. I hope lives were not lost, I sympathize with people who have lost properties. I hope things get resolved soon. |
The essence of a probe or even its meaning is to "Find out". In this case, its to find out the cause of mass failure (obvious as that may seem to everyone). The use of statistical data is usually to provide a measure of performance, against the goals or expectations. Its a relief to know that the performance figures has struck the government and they realise that the cause should be found with a view to solving the problem. However, the word probe in NIgeria has always implied a set negatively motivated actions against officers usually resulting in punishment of some sort. I totally disagree with the Hadiya that said some heads of schools may be purnished for mass failure of students. That is not the essence of the required kind of probe in education. The probe should not even be done by a committee, but be carried out by researchers in the universities by education lecturers and students at masters level accross the country over a period of time. So they can go all out to the grassroots and identify all causes. Finally a committee should review the findings and recommendations of the research, develop and implement a solution project plan to conciously monitor and improve the education of students from JS1 to SS3. Many of factors that affect the performance of students and how to alleviate the factors will need to be identified and tackled. You cant expect a student that has not learnt anything from JS1 to SS3 to pass SSCE. Failure does not start in the exam hall. Expo and mercenary are available at a price just out side the exam hall. Even though cheating is purnishable by 21yrs in jail. Strikes interrupt teaching, yes, but there are two sides to education, teaching and learning. Students are always waiting to be taught or dont even learn what they have been taught. When a candidate that does not accept that he does not "know" but registers for SSCE, he knows not that he does not know; and as the saying goes "he is a compound fool". There is a big difference in the way we handle problems in Nigeria and the way developed countries handle them. God help us to develop in our approach, mind set and thinking. Amen. |
Thank you for your attempt to disproof my opinion which I did not state as facts and as much as I dont want to turn this into a debate. I want to agree with your effort which intended to disproof my theory, but ended up in support of it as I explain below, from yours 1. Most universities requires no more than 5 credits but only SOME polytechnics require 5 credit. Most and some makes the difference. i.e many uni and few poly. 2. 4 paper compared with 3 paper exam from simple arithmetic 4>3 and 3<4. Level of difficulty is just from my own perception of the two exams which I took. I passed PCE more than UME and with a lot less effort. 3. According to JAMB, pass in english is required, therefore the polytechnics use credit in english to screen students, but officially its not a set requirement in the JAMB for university. From yours "On the other hand, only some (few) uni accept pass in english depending on course", again, many poly and few uni accept pass in english. What will an employer think of poly for this difference in standard? 5. And then again, only some( which means few) poly have big libraries, if you take a ratio , lets say hypothetically, 3:7 of poly have big library compared to Universities, judge by ratio, which graduates will the employers go for? I will say its the ones for the 7-3 uni. It means all poly should have big library like uni, equipped with books to the similar standards before we can equate the graduates from both. 6. Finally, in uni Profs and Ph.Ds lecture M.sc and M.Sc (while they either proceed to Ph.D or something) lecture B.sc . There is a tree of knowledge transfer from top researcher to the M.sc and then to B.sc. Many times they are direct knowledge transfers, trust me, you dont want to get in to Professors that lecture undergraduates. Prof Bamiro VC of UI taught me Strength of Materials and Theory of elasticity, another prof Ofi taught me Thermodynamics (both did not get their first degree from Nigeria) and other Ph.Ds taught me while I was undergraduate so if you ask how many prof and Ph.d teach undergraduate, the answer to your question is that many profs and Ph.d teach undergrad compared with the few in poly. Lets not mix up the topic here, its not "reasons why poly is better" , or "reasons why uni is better", its "reasons why employers discriminate against HND"and I am an employer as well as a worker who has witnessed the discrimination and giving my opinion of it so that HND can be rebranded and given better opportunities. I dont want to start a debate, I stand for progress and development of people and the nation in general. Lets identify the mentality of employers and advice on how to repackage the HND certificate to change the perception (mind set) of employers. Thank you. NB. There are universities and there are universities, Top Universities are not of the same grade as lower grade unis. Though they enjoy almost the same treatment by employers since they also get Bachelors degree, but if its any consolation, they are not any better than most polytechnics. That is why I support that polytechnics should get B.Tech at least to kill the discrimination. |
which type of school? nursery, primary, secondary, poly, or university? |
There has indeed been an unfair treatment by employers who perceived HND as inferior to Bachelors Degree. Here is my feeble attempt to guess a couple of reasons why 1. OND admission required less number of credits than Bachelors 2. A different exam PCE JAMB (easier than UME) is required for admission into ND. 3. Only a Pass in english is required for majority of OND courses. 4. Curriculum of Bachelors is different (not better) but of different objectives from OND and HND 5. University Libraries are better equipped than Polytechnics 6. Academic staff in universities include more Ph.D and Professors (i.e more academic achievement) 7. The Universities do lots of research and relate with academics internationally to keep up with developments 8. Polytechnic, as the name implies, are more technically oriented than universities 9. Universities have some courses that are research based like the education, medicine, agronomy, pharmacy which make the environment charged with too much efficos and grammar which is not required by Polytechnic. 10. Finally, employers know that HND holders have more technical skills than Bachelors holders but their needs in banks oil, telecoms and co, like teller jobs are not that technical and you dont have to be more than a school cert holder to do it, since the job market is full of both Bachelors and HND, first class, 2:1, 2:2, upper credit, lower credit. The companies who dont need your core skills either in engineering or accounting will prefer to employ a Bachelors holder who will speak with their customer, most times represent the company and when necessary take up a higher role in the management of the company. Every staff is a customer support staff. And by the nature of the academic orientation of students from universities, they are able to perform in these non skilled jobs and become professional at them. Speaking plenty grammar. These 10 reasons are just my own opinion. I hear now that universities and polytechnics will do the same exam (JAMB) next year and admission into ND will require five credits including maths and english. That is one very good way of setting the standard to same and removing discrimination. What now needs to be done is for the Polytechnics to achieve the same academically charged environment as universities. Lecturers in poly should also achieve Ph.D and do research. And grounds will level. Disrcimination will be removed. Not only in the mind but also in the content of education delivered to students of poly. I totally condemn the discrimination I have seen in my work place. I dont support it all. I have B.sc from Nigeria plus M.sc from UK and even B.Sc(Nigeria) is discriminated against compared with B.Sc(UK) even within Nigeria. We all suffer it because its a Nigerian problem. |
From Topic : Hnd Is Now B.tech Degree In All Nigerian Polytechnics at https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-138041.0.html which relates to this topic I have the following to say. Hi, I posted a topic earlier today but Dclique changed it from "Did you pass WAEC without any help? Why blame anyone else?" to "Reasons for Mass Failure in SSCE", I dont mind the topic being changed if it is not in line with a set standard but the new topic does not quite cut it. The subject is about exam fraud and object is improving education standard. |
Its just like a pledge you make to make an effort to improve education, no one will come and chase after you if you dont, its just to show your support for the idea and like a sign up for something you would do and want to be identified with. |
Most people can not boldly claim to have passed JSSCE, SSCE, NECO or JAMB without help. Many paid for help during exam, working question and giving them answers. Yet they blame one president or governor for their failure. They speak of quality education but can not read their books and pass exams. Some dint even know what they don't know, which as the saying goes makes them a compound fool. There are two sides to education, there is teaching and there is learning. I know people that passed SSCE with 7 credits while they were in SS1? Do you think anyone can pass exams they have never read for. Reading is key not cheating, those who have helped you, have ruined you and your confidence. No wonder many don't get admission despite their JAMB score. 26% had 5 credits including maths and English in the last SSCE. Shame on you if you are among the 74%. You spent 6 years in school and you have nothing to show for it. There is no luck in passing exams without preparation. "Nigerian are topping schools in UK and US" do you think you can top anything with help? How will Nigeria develop if you cant even study for exams and pass after 6 years of secondary school. You should have gone to learn a trade instead. Nigeria would be better that way. Please students of universities and polytechnics, you know you have passed SSCE with help, you know you still carry chips but you blame government for falling standards. Se until they jail you before the standard will go back up? How will you be able to contribute to the society if you manage to graduate by cheating? This is a major factor affecting the education standard List your name here if you support improved education standard by stopping exam fraud and more reading. 1. Fox |
You are right, silence is the best response to this question. What Nairalanders think does not change the facts. Performance is not determined by opinion. Its a measure of achievements for goals set out prior to a time. Surely, there are many more value-adding debates Nairalander can engage in. This as well as many others topics are just purely time wasting debates with aggressive flavor. Please be more creative. Look around you and start up better topics. Something people can gain from and find worthwhile. Cheers |
There is nothing you can do, to get a refund will take forever, and the refund cant bring you a result for the exam you did not write. If you have money sa, sue WAEC for not making alternative arrangement for your center. |
haba, there are softer ways and words to correct someone, especially if u want them to listen. i take ur point that its not important and irrelevant to list top 10 worst uni, but ur words should not be so harsh or rude. it may also reflect ur school. lets be courteous. cheers. |
this man why say something like this, its offensive. be objective not abusive, kilo de, wetin these other governors or state do you. i think this comment is not warranted. pls refrain from such. |
What you are looking for? Highland college of technology, call the director on 08033502136 if u need admission. |
Rating should be done by category and in your list there are five categories, federal uni, state uni, federal poly state poly and private uni. But you wont get an objective and accurate rating from Nairaland. It should be done by a professional body who will compare and grade these schools to produce proper ratings as done in US, UK and world over. Noone in Nairaland can give accurate rating when we are not talking about multina dance-all families or project fame guys voted by sms. Institutions rating is a different ball game. do u agree? |
Admission is on at highland college of technology, ibadan. if u have done all post jamb screening exams but still dont have admission. with 120 or above in MPCE and your WAEC, you will be offered admission all u have to do apart from accepting the admission is to change your first choice in jamb. offer lasts till spaces in each course is filled. call the director on 08033502136. Accredited by NBTE, approved by the federal ministry of education. private, inexpensive, quality training tailored to equip you professionally. |
what are the chances of pre-degree getting into degree program? 5-10%, so dont waste ur time. i know something better, get a national diploma, call 08033502136. better than pre-degree and staying at home |
highland college of technology, ibadan, call the director on 08033502136 |
Question is what makes a good university or polytechnic? NYSC? no, No of lecturers? no. Website? no.no quality of education& facilities? partly, what else? what percentage of their graduates are employed in top jobs? if u want to rate a school, use its input&output. strikes have made nija govt schools' input substandard. private uni and poly still have a chance of better input rating. good school is not by JAMB cut off or screening. |
i smell beef. performance is not just doing something if u care to know. its not a political move so that ppl will praise u. When u impact the lives of people in an objective and sustainable manner , naturally praises will follow. no need to beef fashola. let ppl praise who they deem fit. no need to help other governors advertise their performance which we dont feel. |
let's not be deceived the president dint go for university opening, its just a good excuse to see his doctors again for the 3rd time in 2 months. Please dont be deceived. There is nothing new in university opening. |
this is a fact. I am not sure why schools;uni and poly invite so many for screening, is it to get the truely brilliant or for more money from post scratch cards. All schools have limits to number they can admit and student numbers from spill over and new set increase yearly. main concern is what happens to 70% who will be screened out? pls dont sit at home, do a professional course, or learn a skill. help yourself, help d nation. |
