Escabado: It's obvious in Nigeria we turn everything upside down, a slay queen in USA is different from a slay queen in Nigeria , a slay queen in USA is a young girl that has a decent job or a decent business enterprise that like taking sexy picture. But here in Nigeria a slay queen is a typical ashawo and runs girls without any source of income.all dey do is to sell there body for sexxx, buy clothes and begin to take sexy picture to attract more male customer to sleep with them and pay them money All na d same.Must we follow their definition of SLAY.D decency of job or profession in this context is in d eyes of d beholder. Family › Re: I Lost My Job, Now I Am Losing My Dignity At Home by MrHenshaw: 7:52pm On Jul 02, 2017 |
mylander: Please advise.
I was in an employment of a bank until recently when my employment was terminated.
When I had the job, I took my family welfare as my priory. My wife and our only son were faring good, I always ensure we do not lack the basic necessities. Meanwhile, my wife did not have a job then. All the house upkeep expenses including the cost of running her postgraduate program were on me and I felt comfortable bearing the costs as the breadwinner of the family.
After I lost my job in the bank some month ago, my wife got an employment with the state govt. With her little income, she has been able to assist in bearing some expenses, even she pays for fuelling our car sometimes.
The drama has now started in the house and our marriage is on the verge of breaking up.
Any little issue, my wife will turn it to quarrel, different abuses. Funny enough, she would be referring to the financial supports she has been rendering in the house. This is a woman that did not work at all for 2 years and I was bearing all the expenses with pleasure. Now she had only supported me for about 4months now and she's is misbehaving.
To my surprise, my wife maintains a record in which she records every penny she spends in the house including food items and fuel. With this, she always ask me when will I pay him back.
At the instance of a simple argument/misunderstanding, my wife would be boasting of 'I paid for this, I paid for that....' 'If not for my support since you had problem at work......'
Please advise me, I am getting fed-up with the situation, my wife had changed totally. l sincerely feel your pain.I will advice that you get yourself something average doing that will engage you and enable you leave d house often. At least you will earn a stipend at month end to enable you shield yourself from collecting every one kobo from her at this stage. 90% of them are like that,u are not alone. a.k.a "Obiageli aku".lgbo's can understand better. But trust me,you MUST overcome. At least remain calm because of the blessed child. Finally you can see the sack was a blessing in disguise,at least you now know better whom you have married and been making sacrifice for. Shouting, cursing, crying, the mother says, "Who was the pig that did this to you? I want to know!" The girl picks up the phone and makes a call. Half an hour later, a Ferrari stops in front of their house. A mature and distinguished man with gray hair and impeccably dressed in an Armani suit steps out of the of the Ferrari and enters the house. He sits in the living room with the father, mother, and the girl and tells them: "Good morning, your daughter has informed me of the problem. I can't marry her because of my personal family situation but I'll take charge." "I will pay all costs and provide for your daughter for the rest of her life." "Additionally, if a girl is born, I will bequeath a Ferrari, a beach house, two retail stores, a townhouse, a beachfront villa, and a $2,000,000 bank account. If a boy is born, my legacy will be a couple of factories and a $4,000,000 bank account. If twins, they will receive a factory and $2,000,000 each. Business › Re: Pa Audu Ogbe’s Nigerian Yam Export: A Wrong Step, In The Right Direction by MrHenshaw: 2:26pm On Jul 02, 2017 |
BlueBrothers: I hate to be the one to burst your bubble if you have been grinning from molar to molar, celebrating Pa Audu’s “incredible feat” of exporting 72 tonnes of yam to the US and UK. I watched the report on AIT. Nicely packaged yam, in lovely cartons. I was tempted to celebrate Pa Audu for this achievement. Then I ran the numbers.
According to the May 2017 report by the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics, 1kg of yam goes for N256. This means that 72 tonnes of yam would have a street value of N18 million. Do the math. Forget that this is less than 50% of the volume of trade on a good day in Katsina Ala yam market every week. Anyway, the yam was well packed, and then freighted to the US and UK. Lets us assume than the packaging and freighting costed N3 million (and it might be a lot more, given that yam is heavy). So we have about N15 million net worth of yam (18 – 3 = 15). Assuming we sell it at twice the price, we would make a profit of N15 million. Again, let us assume that we did not incur additional cost in the transaction. So, here is the summary: we exported 72 tonnes of yam, and made N15 million. Good business, good profit.
Now this is where I am going with this: if 72 tonnes of yam is processed to pharmaceutical grade starch, (PGS) (that is the major component of tablets and capsules), we will get about 9.7 tonnes of pure PGS. I am a pharmacist, I know. Depending on your source, pharmaceutical grade starch goes for anywhere from $20 – 40/kg in the international market. And you can google this up. Pa Audu’s 72 tonnes of yam is therefore worth a princely N102 million if it was processed to PGS (assuming it is sold for $30/kg, just to be conservative). So, N18 million worth of yam, processed to N102 million, profit of about 84 million.
The question is, has Audu made N15 million or lost N84 million?
Imagine, for instance, that Benue State was interested in setting up a starch production plant in Katsina Ala. Would we need to export 72 tonnes of starch to make N15 million, instead of making 84 million? And this is a state that makes a pitiable IGR of N250 million per month. The same Benue produces arguably half of the oranges in the country but there is no single fruit juice making industry in the state. This is not about Benue.
Nigeria produces 50 million metric tonnes of cassava annually, 20% of world production according to FAO, but what do we do with it? We convert it to fufu and eat. Zero percent is processed to PGS or other value-added products. If only half of it is processed to PGS, we would be making N35 billion per annum in sales. Again, open Excel and do the math.
So we have Audu exporting yam, exporting jobs, loosing revenue and feeling cool. And we have Gov. Ortom in the background, loving the spotlight of this new enterprise, waiting for applause. He cannot see the opportunities and the waste. He cannot understand why IGR is only N250m/month. Then we have the federal government exporting crude, exporting jobs, messing us all up.
We have us, eating 50 million metric tonnes of cassava, converting it to pooh when we can convert it to cash.
And we want to be called a developing country.
The fact that Pa’ Audu Ogbe meant well naturally to the extent of his knowledge. However, superior arguments shows that what Nigeria need is for Government to provide Tax Holidays & orher Fiscal & Non Fiscal incentives for Local & Foreign Investors to Invest in the mis-gaps, which Value addition to Processing, Parking, Storage, Standardization of Exportable Cash Crops/Agricultural produce…

hahn: Assuming it exists, hell that is, WHEN did god create it?
Did it create it before man sinned?
This would mean that it knew man would sin and still went on to create a place of eternal torment, anguish and pain which makes it either psychopathic and an absolute maniac considering that it is supposed to be omniscient thus can man really be blamed for sin? Does god have any moral justification for torturing people in eternity for sins it created knowing it would punish us for them before even creating us or us becoming aware enough to commit sin?
Did it create it after man sinned?
Couldn't god have just forgiven man considering that Adam and Eve eating the fruit was their first sin ever? As a human, won't you scold your child the first time he/she does something wrong and leave the flogging or punishment to when the child repeats it(depending on the level of crime committed)?
Does it make sense for god to create a place of eternal suffering, torment and pain just because Adam and Eve ate a fruit? Besides, where was god at the time? Couldn't it have shown up and stopped the devil from tempting Eve, since it is omnipresent, and saved humanity from "hell"?
If it exists

Education › Re: Dania, OAU First Class Graduate Breaks Record Of 28 Years by MrHenshaw: 8:12pm On Jul 01, 2017 |
youngdav: Eunice Dania set a record at the Department of Physical and Health Education, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife when she made first class; the first time in 28 years, despite being a dancer who performed at different events regularly. In this interview with TUNDE AJAJA, the 25-year-old, who also made Distinction in her Master’s programme, talks about her days in school and the level she’s taking her dancing passion to.
The basic understanding many people have about Physical and Health Education is the one they did in primary school. What does this course entail at the tertiary level?
Physical and Health Education is deeper than the layman’s definition of it. It is a subject matter that touches every aspect of life. Through involvement in activities, individuals can develop themselves mentally, physically, emotionally and socially. It helps individuals to make meaning of the world around them and think critically by exploring health-related and movement contexts. It also takes a preventive approach, rather than a curative one, towards the incidence of diseases. It entails the mechanics and analysis of movement (biomechanics), socialisation (sociology), understanding of the structures and functions of the human system (anatomy and physiology) and the study of mental practices (psychology) towards promoting purposeful and goal-directed movement for healthy living (kinesiology).
You must have had deep interest in the course to have first class in it, was it the course you had always wanted?
I wanted to study International Relations but I was given Physical and Health Education. I decided to take up the course, but I sat the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination again hoping to change to drop the course. I realised the course was more than I had perceived it to be, so I began to love it and I stuck with it. However, I had the plan to have first class but it didn’t come easy, especially from Obafemi Awolowo University, and a department that had not produced a first class in 28 years. It was challenging but I was able to overcome the challenges through prayer, hard work, discipline and determination.
How many of you had first class in your department?
I was the only one in my set.
How would you have felt if you didn’t make first class?
Although, it is not the determinant of success in life, I still would have been devastated because of the efforts I put into it.
Would you know if there was anything people didn’t do for those 28 years that you did?
I don’t think I did anything that had not been done before, so I really cannot say why it was difficult and my department had the best lecturers I can think of. But as I said, I prayed, worked hard and smart, avoided procrastination, attended lectures, read my books and gave my best. Every individual has their own style and pace of learning. I had to take the time to figure out what worked for me, recognise and improve on my weaknesses and capitalise on my strengths; always ready to know more and constantly seeking ways to improve on myself. I have never been comfortable with ‘average’. I believe that has always been the reason why it’s either I give my best to something or I don’t attempt it at all. Excellence and greatness have a price; they never come easy. It involves working hard and smart, discipline, faith, determination and commitment. These principles have always been my watchword and applying them without any second thoughts has always worked for me.
Were there things about your growing up that prepared you never to settle for average or it has to do with personal decision?
All thanks to God and my parents who gave me the needed support (advice, discipline, encouragement and memories). Growing up was fun and memorable. Those memories cannot be forgotten, because they came along with several experiences, lessons and values which have helped in shaping and moulding me into the woman I’ve grown to become. I can’t seem to forget study time with my parents. Dad was my mathematics teacher. He would help me with whatever difficulty I was having in the subject. Mum, on the other hand, would wake me up every night to study. Sometimes, she would sit with me all through the night to make sure I was not dozing off and ask me questions afterwards. Any question missed would attract several strokes of the cane. It wasn’t tea party for me, but those days prepared me for the future and I’m glad about the progress I’ve made so far. In my previous schools, I always had impressive performances. I remember bagging the prizes in all subjects except Yoruba in my secondary school. I always took first position both in primary and secondary school.
Apart from being the best in your department, were there other awards you won as an undergraduate?
Yes, I won the most outstanding female and most academic sought-after female of the department. I also won the Prof. Babatunde Fafunwa award for the best graduating student with the highest CGPA in my faculty.
What was the extreme thing you ever did for the sake of your academics?
When I read for 48 hours at a stretch.
Some people would think you would have read throughout to have that kind of result. Were you involved in other activities?
I didn’t read throughout; I was involved in other activities. I made sure I slept from 8pm to 11pm and then read from 11pm to 4am every day. Besides, I was involved in other activities. I like dancing and writing. I was in two dance crews and was the editor-in-chief of the National Association of Physical and Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance News and also belonged to the editorial unit in church. Those activities were equally demanding. I would travel to perform at dance events and competitions and go for overnight rehearsals, write for magazines and stay up to meet deadlines for submission. Ordinarily, I was doing rehearsals every day and the duration varied and there were times we had overnight rehearsals and I had to go to class the following morning. The most important thing was creating a balance and doing the right thing at the right time. I really wanted the best out of both worlds. It was a challenging feat but I was able to pull through with the help of God.
How did you start being a dancer and choreographer?
I started dancing from secondary school. It gets me excited seeing people move their bodies. I realised I could do some of those movements very well. I started getting interested, formed a dance crew and we performed at special events in school. The experience in the university was not any different. I joined a dance crew, performed on stage and events, and became recognised in OAU. I started getting referrals to teach people how to dance. I really can’t describe what dance means to me. I’m very passionate about it and it makes me very happy.
Was it that you went to learn it or it started since you were young?
I didn’t learn it. I realised it was something I could do, naturally. Although, as dancers, there are certain moves that need to be learnt and internalised.
Which would you consider as your biggest stage to have featured?
The best stage I ever featured was at Aso Rock at the YOUWIN conference. Having to dance in front of the then President Goodluck Jonathan was an honour. Also, I was given the ever ready member award and best female dancer award by my crew (Shake up’ crew), and best female dancer, Obafemi Awolowo University (2009). I was named the best female dancer, Malta Guinness street dance competition, 2010. These mean a lot to me.
Were your parents supportive or there were times they chastised you?
My parents didn’t know I danced in school, until they heard from friends that I was on TV. Since my academics wasn’t affected, they were very supportive.
How did you feel the first time you saw yourself on TV?
I was excited; I mean very excited. That was when I went for Malta Guinness Street dance and the judges made wonderful remarks about my performance, so that meant a lot. That was in my third year. I was really excited.
But oftentimes, people see dancers as unserious people, in terms of academics. Were there people who saw you like that?
A lot of people saw me as unserious when I was a fresher. My results proved a lot of them wrong. Most of them had to change their notion about dancers. I was given the nickname ‘unique dancer’ and ‘first class dancer’ because of that.
That venture must have raised your income significantly?
At first, it was just for fun but it fetched me some money later on. But more importantly, it gave me lots of exposure and opened doors for me to meet people. There were people who tried to discourage me. They told me to leave one for the other; that it was impossible to combine both. But, to me, I believe impossibility is nothing. I enjoyed it all the way.
Were there times your practice or events clashed with your lectures or tests?
Yes, a lot, but I always knew my primary assignment was my studies. I chose my academics over rehearsals. My performance was superb in my first year with a CGPA of 4.8. so, I learnt to prioritise.
Would you say the course you studied has helped your passion for dancing?
Even though PHE was not the course I wanted, it has in a lot of ways helped to build flexibility, stamina, strength, endurance, balance and co-ordination. It has helped my dance a lot.
If you have so much interest in dancing/choreography, why didn’t you consider going for Theatre Arts?
Dancing in secondary school was just for fun. I didn’t think I would go deeper into it while in the university. I believe Physical and Health Education was just what God wanted for me and the best course for me to build certain components and qualities that I needed to have as a dancer.
Would you want to go into full scale dancing, like a venture, or you want to practise your profession?
I would love to do both. They are interwoven and very much related. I believe doing both won’t be a bad idea.
So what are your aspirations?
To be the most sought after exercise physiologist as a result of my work and contribution to society and a strong advocate for dance to be accepted and recognised as a sporting activity in Nigeria and beyond. Also, I really would love to be a lecturer. I love writing, reading and conducting research. Being a lecturer will give me the opportunity to do that. If I’m not one, I would love to be on my own, acting as a consultant for several organisations as an exercise physiologist.
Why do you think students fail?
Misplaced priorities, inadequate preparation and indiscipline. I think students should put God first, they should be disciplined, determined and work hard. They shouldn’t listen to negative voices that tell them they can’t achieve certain things. Believe in yourself and give your best.
Men are usually attracted to ladies who know how to dance. What was it like for you?
Of course, it attracted a lot of guys, but I have a principle. I took them as friends and drew the line. So, I was able to keep friends as friends and fans as fans.
What were you doing between when you left school and when you went for Master’s?
I was working. I worked in a school, I worked in a hospital and I had some contract jobs. I actually left to do my Master’s in Exercise Physiology, which I concluded last year, because I love the academics. Right now, I’m working on my own project to gather some money before I go for my Ph.D., which costs a lot of money.

Crime › Re: US Based Nigerian Doctor Cries Out To Government Over Murder Of His Mom. Photos by MrHenshaw: 3:52pm On Jun 30, 2017 |
Angelanest: A Nigerian medical doctor living in the U.S has called on the Nigeria government and her security agencies to urgently unravel the circumstance surrounding the murder of his mother at their Umuoshi village in Avutu, Obowo Local Government Area, Imo State Nigeria and ask for the prosecution of those behind the wicked act.
The only child of his parents, Dr. Ikechukwu Nwosu accused the Nigeria Police of asking for money before carrying out the investigation into the murder of his mother.
Calling for justice, he alleged that two out of the three suspected killers are in police custody and have confessed to the crime before being transferred to the State CID in Owerri, from Obowo police division.
He shared the photo of the two arrested suspects and that of the one at large as well as giving details of his encounter with the police below:
"My name is Ikechukwu Nwosu, I am a Medical doctor based in the United States of America, but a native of Umuoshi, Avutu in Obowo Local Government Area, Imo State Nigeria. I am the only child of my parents, Mr. Emmanuel Nwosu and Mrs. Maria Nwosu. I have never felt as much sorrow as I am feeling at this moment writing this story and begging the Nigerian people to join me in seeking justice for the death of my precious mother, Mrs. Maria Nwosu who was shot and killed by gunmen in our home in the village at Umuoshi Avutu in Obowo Local Government Area, Imo State Nigeria. "
He said : "Thursday, June 8, 2017 9:07pm (USA) ET/Friday, June 9, 2017 2:07am Nigerian time, is a day and moment I will never forget because it is the time I received the worst call of my life. I was informed that my mother was shot and killed by unknown gunmen, and “fortunately” for me, my dad was not killed as well. You can imagine how I felt, given that I had just finished speaking with my parents over the phone two hours earlier when I got off work before I got that horrible call. Mind you, my mother was supposed to be getting ready to come to the US to visit me and my family including her newborn grand-daughter on June 23, 2017."
The only son of the deceased stated "When I called my dad, he was already at the hospital where he and a family member rushed my mum in an effort to save her life. Of course he was distraught at the time. He could not even communicate with me because he was crying so deeply. When he finally got himself together, he managed to tell me how the incident unfolded, and how the love of his life was shot in few seconds without him having a chance to protect his wife. He went on to tell me that he had gone to the Police Station at Otoko (the headquarter of Obowo Local Government) to report the horrible crime that just happened; however the police first asked for money before they could follow him to the hospital and the crime scene. Upon getting there, police demanded that my dad call a photographer to take pictures of my mother and the crime scene (Mind you, this is a man whose wife had just been killed in a horrific way, yet police is making him run around in the early hours of the morning). My dad finally found a photographer who was willing to take the pictures, but not until he was paid for his services by my dad."
He averred that "Two days later my Dad was notified of the whereabouts of some of the suspected young, evil boys who killed his wife, and they happened to be from my community. My dad was able to call people, whose identity I will not mention for security reasons, to ensure that those boys were caught. Fortunately, they were able to catch three boys who admitted they were involved in the crime. They were immediately taken to the police station and were handed over to police. My family was informed that there was an additional person involved, but when they went after this person, the suspect got away from them. I would expect police to spring into action in searching for this boy, or even go to his house to obtain a photo of him and make the public aware of his identity, but unfortunately none of these happened. As days went by, we learned that there were more people involved, and that the individual on the run knew their identity. The three suspects in custody where transferred to the State CID in Owerri. At this point, I was hearing that police in Owerri would come see the crime scene, but there was no haste in action from them in doing so. As a matter of fact, they were given money because they claimed they needed it for gas (petrol) and to charter more vehicles to enable them to make more arrests when they get to my community. When they arrived, they also asked for money for food, and it was given to them."
The USA based medical doctor queried "As days went by, police demanded an autopsy to be done on my mother, and of course the payment to the doctor for performing the autopsy came out of my family’s pocket. That was not the end of it. It was said that the doctor who performed the autopsy would not be the one to stitch my mum’s open body. Now the person who was supposed to do it collected his own payment. But wait, that is not the end. Do you know that my dad had to also pay the photographer who was documenting the autopsy process for his services?"
"Now I ask myself, what is the job of the government and the police in protecting and serving her citizens? To know that a crime of this magnitude was committed, yet there is not much activity in catching the remaining suspected perpetrators who are on the run and no news in arraigning those in custody to court in order to begin their judgement proceedings baffles me; although I would not say I am surprised. I was told that police even obtained pictures of those suspects on the run, yet I have not seen any publication in the news warning the public of these evil doers and the threat they pose to the public. Who knows, you, your family or friend may be interacting with a suspected killer and armed robber without knowing because police have not made the faces of these suspected killers known to the public."

mezebel: Edoga should be blamed. Prof. Francis otunta remains the best VC. Every vc will want to help his people and that is exactly what he is about to do. @Mezebel y should Edoga be blamed and how did you arrive @ Otunta as the best VC.Are you refering to d best VC in Nigeria or d MOUAU University .l also believe when he sacks them he wouldn't do same since d action has been tagged as a "crime". For records, the former VC (Edeoga) transformed the University in every angle.Visit and confirm.By the expiration of Otunta administration, juxtapose their achievement and be the judge.Otunta is very good in his way,no doubt. @Mezebel school politics are more than Nigeria politics, where every Professor claim to be equal. My dear if u have access to University senate Chamber during seating,u will know better. |

lisbonabdulahi: Hello Nairalanders, please I need you advice before I finally end this marriage. I know I was at fault at the beginning for not stamping my authority , I showed her so much love, because she is a product of a broken home, I wanted her to know there is much more to life, now she has turned my love to foolishness, I do not want my kids to grow up without a father. That is why I have been very patient, but now … please read on.
I have been married for 11 years, with 4 kids. The truth is that we have never had really peace in the home for these years, everything is trouble, from the way I talk, eat, dress, use the toilet and sleep, just name them. The situation has been bad from the beginning, but the last three years has been hell for me and the kids, my wife shouts and complain over everything, she cannot go one full day with Joy, there is always one thing that annoys her, she has to be right on all issues, The very sad part is that whenever she does anything wrong and I ask her, there will be trouble, she will refuse to speak with me for as long as she like. We can go for weeks without really speaking with each other she enjoys it, she does not just bother at all. Each time these things happen, I am always the one that try to initiate peace.
I will like to give only one example to summarise everything going on in my home: two years ago, she will just leave the home without telling me, I called her and told her it is not right, she replied me promptly that it is her life, I can’t control her, and it is my life as well, I should do whatever I like with it. well I thought it was anger, however, I never mind, anytime I want to leave, I make sure I tell her till one day she called me and tell me that even if I keep informing her about my movements, that she is not going to change, she is not under any obligation to tell me where she is going to. My people, for two years counting now, that is how we have been doing it, we just leave without telling each other. BUT OCCASSIONALLY FOR SOME REASONS I DON’T KNOW, SHE WILL JUST TELL ME SHE IS GOING OUT TO XYZ.
She always insults me and even the kids, for any mistake they make and she never fails to tell them that they did not inherit their bad character from her, that they inherited their character from me, she says this consistently even when I am there. There is no insult she has not poured on me, I have had to explain to her mother severally but the woman is simply helpless, her mother is dead scared of her. She exhibited some of these characters during our two years of courtship, but her mother and some brethren advised that she will change after marriage. She is always complaining of being tired, meanwhile, I do the dishes, do the vacuuming (sweeping), cleaning and other domestic duties, even when she cooks, I have to cut the ingredients and all that, in short she rarely cooks. We sleep in different rooms for 4 years counting now, occasionally I try to go to her room to initiate sex, but 99% of cases she chase me away, sometime she locks her door. She stopped me from sleeping in same room with her, when I asked why, shy did not say anything but after 4 months she said it was because I was snoring at night. Trust me anytime I am opportune to make love to her I make sure she climaxes…
It is so bad that even her sisters sometimes rebuke her in my presence, presently, she is not in talking terms with any of her siblings, and this has been on for the past three years. I am stuck with this lady, her mother cannot talk to her, no family member she respects. She is a loner. To the extent that she makes friends and they always break up, she has no real close friends, even if they are close, trust me, before 6 months the relationship has gone sour. This is super stooooooory! And you are still doing what? |

Mumben: I am married with four kids, very gentle and easy going. My immediate younger brother's wife calls me by my name. I am 4 years older than her. Is this RIGHT? If not, how do i correct her politely? Matured responses pls. My dear, your case has an answer.Note, that she is your younger brother's wife doesn't make her younger than you,she maybe your age mate though u didn't specify her age here. Also it doesn't have much to do generally being from Igbo or any other ethnic group, every african male or female likes respect by age.On this note ,l wish to ask what your brother calls you or how do u relate with him.Even if d wife calls u by name but sees respect n honour and right family bond within d family, she will join suit. Also how does respect by age flow in your family.U can't expect what u don't have. Some people came from where respect by age doesn't count, she might be one of such. Finally try to take her as a younger sister ,possbly provide for her where and when necessary both in material and kindness if u have what it takes.Pls don't be too close with her especially living together but try n show her care often.ln a short time she can't summon the courage to call you by name again. So my dear read the above and do the needful. |
