Politics / Obasanjo: Ekwueme Rejected Senate Presidency Offer In 1999 by mrinfo(m): 3:23pm On Oct 29, 2010
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday said that former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme rejected the position of Senate President after losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries in 1999.

Obasanjo made the revelation in Lagos at the launch of his new book entitled: Baba’s Story: Nigeria is 50.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the 60-page book, which was authored by a Ghanaian, Abyna-Ansaa Adjei, tells the Nigerian story from Obasanjo’s perspective.

In the book, Obasanjo is quoted as saying that Ekwueme, who was vice-president under the Shehu Shagari regime, declined the offer of senate president after losing the party’s nomination to him.

“By that time, the party founders had already agreed that Ekwueme would be the President of the Senate,” Obasanjo said.

The former ruler also defended his record in office from 1999 to 2007, stating that his administration instituted policies and programmes which helped in shaping the country.

“We made great strides in the area of education, health, telecommunications and banking.

I keep wondering the kind of money companies shower on some useful entertainment shows while they do little or nothing to encourage the intellectual and creative human resources in this country.

#1 TRUTH ; Organizations Don’t Care About Your Degree.

You might have struggled for years through the university to come out with a good degree so telling you that companies and organizations don’t care for it seems harsh but that’s the fact.

Getting a good degree helps somehow in getting a good job but what really counts to every employer is what value, skills, knowledge, experience etc you are bringing to them. After all, almost every job seeker out there has a degree. What differentiates some from the rest? The extra.

#2 TRUTH; You Don’t Need Any Godfather Before You Can Get A good Job but Knowing Influential People Increases Your Chances.

The bigger and more influential your referees are the better your chances of getting called for interviews when you submit your CV.

#3 TRUTH ; Nothing Goes For Nothing

Many young job seekers foolishly talk about their desire to land very lucrative jobs in oil companies, telecommunications companies, banks etc but possess little or no skills to ensure they get their dream jobs. Be prepared to improve yourself tremendously if you are aiming for the really juicy jobs.

Knowing these truths, no matter how unpalatable and tackling them will move you closer to making a successful career for yourself in whatever sector you choose.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Man Utd Fans Storm Rooney's House by mrinfo(m): 7:13am On Oct 22, 2010
Rooney, who is understood to be in turmoil over whether to accept a new offer to remain at Old Trafford, sparked fury among Manchester United supporters by claiming that he is ready to leave the club due to the failure of senior figures to prove they match his ambition.

Derogatory banners and chants were directed at Rooney during Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Bursaspor at Old Trafford, but the animosity reached new depths with a mob of around 30 people being dispersed by police.

The group, which consisted of men wearing balaclavas and Eric Cantona-masks, descended on Rooney’s family home around 8.30pm, when police were called to assist.

Eight officers arrived on the scene to clear the disturbance, which Cheshire police have confirmed cleared peacefully with no arrests made.

The mob, who were labelled as the ‘Men in Black’ on fans’ forums and Twitter last night, carried banners warning Rooney against leaving United for neighbours Manchester City.

Rooney is understood to have been in the house at the time, but the player was not confronted by the group.

The events mirror similar attacks on United chief executive David Gill and England captain Rio Ferdinand, Rooney’s United team-mate, who received a similar ‘visit’ from supporters in 2005 during his lengthy contract dispute with the club.

A United spokesman confirmed last night that they were aware of the incident at Rooney’s house, but security details surrounding the player remain a private matter.
Politics / Dokpesi Sues Sss For100 Million Naira Damages by mrinfo(m): 2:54pm On Oct 13, 2010
Nigerian media mogul Raymond Dokpesi has lodged a lawsuit against the secret police over his arrest in connection with the Independence Day Abuja bombings.

Mr Dokpesi, election campaign chief to a rival of the president in elections due next year, wants 100m naira ($660,000; £410,000) in damages.

He was one of nine people arrested in Nigeria over the twin car-bombings which killed at least 12 people.

He says the arrest was “malicious”.

Mr Dokpesi was freed at least nine hours after being detained on 4 October – three days after the bombing.

He owns the Africa Independent Television network, one of Nigeria’s biggest, and is running the campaign of former military ruler Gen Ibrahim Babangida.

Gen Babangida is challenging President Goodluck Jonathan for the right to become Nigeria’s governing party’s presidential candidate.

On Monday, another candidate for the People’s Democratic Party nomination – the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar – called for an international inquiry into the 1 October bombings to ensure the investigations were not manipulated for political reasons.

When Mr Dokpesi was arrested, officials said he had exchanged text messages with the alleged mastermind of the bombing, Henry Okah, who has been charged with terrorism offences in South Africa, where he is based.

Mr Okah is a former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (Mend), which is fighting for more control of Nigeria’s oil wealth for residents of the oil-producing Delta region.

He has denied any links to the blasts, but an e-mail purportedly sent by Mend said it had carried out the attacks.

If confirmed, this would be the first time Nigeria’s oil militants have struck in the capital.

Mr Okah is believed to lead a militant Mend faction opposed to a government amnesty.

Most Mend commanders have joined the amnesty, set up to end years of unrest in the region which cut Nigeria’s oil output by up to 20%.
