Politics / The Story Of The Creative Jobseeker by mrinfo(m): 2:30am On Nov 10, 2010
A jobseeker once came up with a creative way of reaching out to employers. He identified the companies he would love to work for and gathered necessary information on the heads of these companies.

Next he created a simple webpage for each of these CEOs, giving details of their profiles and achievements with pictures where available. At the end he put in a small paragraph about the writer (that is himself) stating his profile and his zeal to deliver and help grow any firm he works for. He also stated that he would love to work under the CEO. He also include his detailed contact information; phone, email.

He put up such web pages and he did that free. He didn’t have to spend for web design or hosting. He used free web design services such as blogger and then began to promote the pages.

Funny enough a few of those CEOs on searching for their name in Google came in contact with a single page describing many interesting things and achievements about them (Everyone of us sometimes want to see if we have an online presence and so we search for our names).

After reading the interesting web pages about them three of the CEOs contacted the young man who put up the pages and two ended up offering him a job. And you can bet that he will be starting halfway up the ladder instead of from the bottom because of the unique approach that got him the attention of the top man in the organization.
If you are looking to fast track your career rise, do unconventional things, grab the headlines. Have you heard of the story of the young man who got a job from new Ekiti state governor Kayode Fayemi because of twitter?

That is a story for another day. Tell us what you think or questions you have for a young person who wants to achieve a high point in his or her career. Use the comment box below we’ll try and reply.

Politics / Old Couple Win $11 Million In Lottery by mrinfo(m): 3:35pm On Nov 05, 2010
A retired Canadian couple who won $11.3 million in the lottery in July have already given it (almost) all away.

"What you've never had, you never miss," 78-year-old Violet Large explained to a local reporter.

She was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer when the couple realized they'd won the jackpot in July.

"That money that we won was nothing," her tearful husband, Allen, told Patricia Brooks Arenburg of the Nova Scotia Chronicle Herald. "We have each other."

The money was a "headache," they told the paper--mainly, it brought anxiety over the prospect that "crooked people" might take advantage of them. Several people called them out of the blue to ask for money when the news first broke that they'd won the jackpot. So they began an $11 million donation spree to get rid of it and help others, the Chronicle Herald reports:

They took care of family first and then began delivering donations to the two pages' worth of groups they had decided on, including the local fire department, churches, cemeteries, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, hospitals in Truro and Halifax, where Violet underwent her cancer treatment, and organizations that fight cancer, Alzheimer's and diabetes. The list goes on and on.

If Yobo and Yakubu ever hinted they'll prefer Keshi then we should know already that keshi is not good for the team. We want someone to break the so called big boy gang led by Yobo and send all misfit players parking.Keshi my foot. Why won't they root for keshi? They want to remain in business

Politics / D-day For Siasia And Keshi: If You Were In Nff Who Would You Go For? by mrinfo(m): 3:41am On Nov 04, 2010
Today marks the day Nigeria's two most respected local coaches will slug it out in an interview to know who clinches the top job of coaching the super eagles. Knowing the NFF we got it is clear that merit alone will not give any of the both the job but also whoever the NFF bigwigs believe they can direct and compromise more easily. The question is If you were in the NFF Technical Committee who is more likely to get your vote?
Sports / Chris Green (new Nff Technical Committee Under Pressure Over Siasia And Keshi by mrinfo(m): 5:08pm On Nov 02, 2010
Barrister Christopher Green has been reflecting on life as chairman technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Green described the job as the most challenging in his entire life noting that he is now the “busiest Man in the world”. “I hardly sleep these days. My never stops ringing and I am almost at a loss as to how to handle the situation,’ Green told SuperSport.com.

The former Rivers state commissioner for sports also revealed that he had been spoken to both men (Samson Siasia and Stephen Keshi) in the last few days.

“To be honest with you, I have received calls from both men but I am objective and refuse to have my emotions swayed. My track record as one of the most experienced administrators of football in this country is there for all to see. I will be firm, firm and upright in this latest assignment,” he said.

On the pressures he has faced since assuming the position, Green said.

“People in high places call me all the time; politicians, agents and even footballers.

The other day I received a call from as much as six national team players who had things to say about the upcoming interview for the two shortlisted coaches for the Super Eagles job. But I have always been a dispassionate Man and will continue to do what is right,” he said
Career / What Not To Wear To A Job Interview by mrinfo(m): 4:34pm On Nov 01, 2010
Here is a list of fashion mistakes many job seekers make that can cost you a chance during interview sessions no matter how good you performed at the interview. Make sure to avoid these mistakes next time you get called for an interview.

- Wearing Wild Nail Polish: This is mostly a mistake by women. You are not going for a wild night party or a fashion show that should warrant putting on such. Trim your nails and make them look simple and responsible

- Noisy Jewelry: Wearing bangles and chains will only turn off the interviewing panel and make you look like the unserious type. Be conservative.

- Open Toed or Backless Shoes: This is a no-no for a formal setting like interviews.

- Bare Legs: Put on socks while attending interviews and make sure they match your dressing.

- Old Suits: Even if you are poor you don’t have to look it. The interviewers are not charity. Better put on good corporate shirt than wear an old suit to interview.
- Short Skirts: Wearing mini or short skirts smacks of irresponsibility. You are not likely to have a chance if you wear it.

- Leather Jackets: Leave out jackets when dressing for job interviews. The simpler you dress the better.

- Turtlenecks: Turtlenecks are not for interviews. Leave your at home.

- Trendy Handbags: Avoid anything flashy. Small handbags that blend with your dressing will be a better option.

- Red Briefcase: It is wiser to avoid loud colours . If you must, carry small portable black briefcase or one that matches your dressing.

Politics / I Knew I Would Leave Prison Alive - Obasanjo by mrinfo(m): 10:35am On Nov 01, 2010
Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday recounted his Yola prison experience, declaring that there was a divine message that he would leave prison alive and that former military Head of State, late Gen. Sanni Abacha, whose administration sentenced him, would not be the one to release him.

Obasanjo was in 1995 sentenced to life in prison by the Abacha administration over an alleged coup plot, but was released by the administration of Gen. Abubakar Abdulsalam in 1998 after the death of Abacha. Upon his release, he vowed to dedicate a church for the propagation of Christianity which was formally done yesterday amid preaching, prayers and thanksgiving.

In his thanksgiving address, Obasanjo told the congregation at the Chapel of Christ the Glorious King inside the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library that he was quite sure that he would survive the prison travails alive, with the man at the centre of his predicament not going to be responsible for his release. He said the experience in the prison made him to be more committed to God even though the pressure to come and be president in 1999 took him years back from realizing his dream. He thanked God for sparing his life to fulfill the promise to build a church to appreciate Him.

“When I was in prison, I knew two things. One, that I would come out alive; secondly, that the man who imprisoned me would not be the one to release me. And these two came to pass. I want to thank God for that”, he said.
Politics / Ndlea Arrest Two Grandparents Over Peddling by mrinfo(m): 3:59pm On Oct 29, 2010
Bello Mobolaji, 60, and Afolabi Kehinde, 47, both grand parents, are currently in custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for their alleged involvement in peddling hard drugs.

The duo, who were apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, allegedly ingested a total of 189 wraps of the powdery substances weighing 3.14kg as revealed by the scanning machine at the terminal. Mitchell Ofoyeju, the spokesperson for the anti-drug peddling agency, on Thursday, stated that Mr Mobolaji, who is a transport administrator in Surulere, and Mrs Kehinde, a trader at Owo Town in Ondo State, are facing interrogation by narcotics investigators over their roles in the crime. "Mobolaji, who ingested 83 wraps of substances that tested positive to heroin weighing 1.12kg, was stopped from smuggling drugs into Detroit in the United States through a KLM flight, while Kehinde swallowed 106 wraps of substances that proved positive for cocaine weighing 1.92kg on her way to London during screening of passengers on Virgin Atlantic flight," he said.

Hamza Umar, the Airport Commander for the agency, stated that the scanning machines at the international terminal will definitely detect drugs meticulously concealed by suspects irrespective of age brackets. "It is amazing that at their age they could still involve in drug trafficking," he said. "The good thing is that we have the capacity to detect them as scanning machines do not consider age and status."

A litany of reasons

In a statement provided by the anti-drug agency, which identified both suspects as grand parents. Mr Mobolaji said that financial costs of his wife's illness made him delve into drug peddling, adding that it took about a year before he could be convinced to smuggle hard drugs. "My wife had a surgical operation that cost about N1.5million last year," he said. "I am still paying the debt I incurred from the medical bill. All the same, it all started last year when I contemplated smuggling drugs. They gave me bitter cola to swallow which I did but I latter changed my mind after the trial. Three weeks ago, I was contacted by the same people and I agreed to do it for $10,000. Now I know that I have made a mistake."

Mrs Kehinde, on her own part, said she needed the money for medications, adding that she was promised £3,500 by those who lured her into the crime. "I needed money for my medication because I am sick," she said. "When I met the people in Lagos, they promised to pay me £3,500 and I agreed to swallow the drugs. That was how they lodged me in a hotel where I ingested the drugs for about one and half day period. I am ashamed of myself."

Ahmadu Giade, the Chief Executive of the NDLEA, said that the agency's strategic plan, aimed at stemming the illicit trade in narcotics as the year draws to a close, is yielding positive results. "End of year is usually associated with rise in crime rate as most people strive to make money for the yuletide season," he said. "This inordinate quest for money compels many into illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities. We have therefore prepared adequately to tackle the antics of drug barons. We shall stop them by strategic reduction of our threats and maximization of drug control opportunities. The use of older people will certainly not work as these arrests have shown."
