DeeKeem:Thanks once again |
DeeKeem:Great. Thanks for your input. I will do as you suggested. My only problem would just be getting to the facility from France here. I can get a train from France here to Mol. But from Mol to the facility, I might use Uber. What's the general language in Mol? French or Dutch? |
victorsol:Thanks bro for this info. It's really helpful. In fact, you gave me one important info before leaving France, which is to come along with Covid-19 test since I won't be allowed to board trains in Belgium without it even as a first timer. I am usually an indoor person, I doubt there's a need for Bicycle. The buses, trams would do. I am only wondering is there would be tram from my last train station to the SCK-CEN facility. I also know the tram system will be similar to that of France. I just hate the stress of traveling. But I want to see Belgium too. Again, thanks for your time |
victorsol:Hey bro. I just discovered this thread. I will be coming to Belgium in few months time to complete my internship. The internship is in SCK-CEN in Mol. How's the covid situation? I have read few things about Belgium on this thread. Do you guys have a Nigerian student community in Belgium? I would love to explore Belgium, visit Netherlands and Germany. How's the transport situation there? |
atom080:Masters programme in Europe is 2 years. This includes 18 months academic activities and 5-6 months internship. I have concluded the 18 months academic activities on 10th of February. I am currently doing my internship. The report of your internship is the masters thesis. In UK, I think it's 6 months academic activities and 6 months research (same as internship). Or combined, I don't know exactly how it's divided. |
atom080:In principle, we signed a document called "Bond" which requires you to come back upon completion of your studies. In reality, no one expect you to come back if you find other opportunities. I would like to assume that even the president does not expect you to come back if you have something doing upon completion of your studies. So if you find perhaps a Ph.D or Post Doc, then you are encouraged to continue. PTDF scholarship is not a strict scholarship, it's very flexible. |
petux:Hey bro. Sorry I haven't been on nairaland lately. Well, buyers have 15 days after order completion to l leave a review after which they won't have the option of leaving any review. And like someone already said, you don't need to push him for the review. You should also be careful and to deliver quality services. Because, buyers have two review options. One that will be made public and the one for Fiverr backend Algorithm/support. The latter is secret and affects your ranking. So it's possible for a client to give you 5 stars publicly and behind your back, he will drop a 1 star review. When delivering your order, ask buyer to come back to you should they need have any modification request. Else, they should go ahead and mark the order as completed AND LEAVE A REVIEW OF THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH YOU. Tell them that this review will help other buyers make informed decision. The above is what I add to my order delivery message or once an order is completed, I will go to inbox and thank the guy for marking the order as completed, I will also remind him to please leave a review of his experience with my services as it will guide other buyers. I hope it helps |
It was just snowing lightly as we walked into the woods. It later increased its intensity.
|
The second pics was when we were about entering the woods.
|
Weather forecast predicts it will snow tomorrow again. It seems we are in end times ![]()
|
As it snowed, I accompanied someone to visit his friend. We took hot tea and took a walk in the woods. So, the streets are covered
|
Of everything to write on a snow, what came to the mind of these white folks is:
|
It started gradually and before you know it, it compelled everything to assume it's colour - White. They said it rarely snow in Nantes - today was the "Rare" day
|
Did everyone enjoy the Snow? absolutely yes. Being the first time, most people I met outside said they received a call from their friends in different city that it was going to Snow in Nantes. White, black, and colourless individuals were outside taking pictures, throwing snow balls on themselves, and enjoying the rare moment.
|
We woke up to this whitish, soft, and lovely water particles flying around, reaching to cover the black tarred roads with it's colour. The goal was achieved, atlas it was snowing in Nantes. Two things happened today in Nantes, the French president visited Nantes and they blocked some roads. It turned out that he was to pass my residence and very early while I rushed to meet a friend who's returning back to Nigeria, the entire tramstop was filled with police. Movement was restricted too. The temperature was negative 3 degrees in the morning but forecast app/sites confirmed it felt like -9. It was freezingly cold, then came the Snows. I read from a post that this is the first time it's snowing in Nantes in 30 years. While I can't immediately confirm this piece of data, I accepted it. Nantes is know to be the Rain city of France. It rains almost on daily basis during winter. Today, it disappointed everyone, including itself and didn't rain. Pics: View from my kitchen

Cousiim:Yes, you are right. I have corrected it bro. Thanks |
Ajibade123:Lol. Don't worry bro, you will soon finish. |
popeshemoo:Lol. Thanks bro. You guys were part of the journey. |
Boyhood:Thanks bro |
emeritus007:Thanks bro |
DisGuy:Yes bro |
christejames:Thanks bro |
Guys, the journey that started 17th September, 2019 has academically ended. Thanks for walking with me through this tough journey, your kind wishes, and prayers are all appreciated. I am very grateful. Now, we will have alot of time to gist, chat, and the rest. |
Honestly, it seems he was used. Someone contacted me to post on nairaland. It's quite an unfortunate situation. Wish the mods will push to front page. |

Yesterday, I received this and was asked to post on here. The mods should please push to front page. The family of Mr and Mrs Sylvester Nnadi woke up on the 4th of February, 2021 to a strange tragedy. Their son, Ikenna, who has invested about a decade with the Grace of God Mission(GGM) is missing. Ikenna had graduated from their theology school in Ọnịcha, Anambara State and ordained a pastor in their convention of November, 2013. In November, 2014 he was posted to the riverine area of Ọkpai Ibusu, and there he has been till the 4th of February. On this day, his elder brother, Uchenna woke up to see the following text messages: 11.59 pm Wednesday, 3rd February, 2021; "With heavy heart, utchi district pastor ikenna nnadi,s station find it very hard to break this sad news to you that pastor ikenna was involved in a water accident and haven't been seen till now after much search." 12.02 am Thursday, 4th February, 2021; "With heavy heart, utchi district pastor ikenna nnadi,s station find it very hard to break this sad news to you that pastor ikenna was involved in a water accident and haven't been seen till now after much search." The above texts came from the following number: +2348071621527. A follow up call to the above number revealed that Ikenna went to their church meeting at Utchi with about six others and on their way back to Ọkpai their speed boat capsized. Only Ikenna was missing. Every attempt to reach the other six persons was unsuccessful as they refused to pick their calls. The family made unsuccessful attempts to reach the founder of GGM, Bishop Dr. Paul Nwachukwu. However, text message to Bishop Paul Nwachukwu Jr (son of the founder) was answered as he refused to answer calls. These are his numbers: +234803 321 0517 and +234706 084 1763. The following exchange of texts followed: Uchenna: We are having great challenge locating my younger brother, Pastor Kevin Nnadi of Okpai Ibusu, Grace of God. Paul Jr: Is he missing Uchenna: That appears to be so, we have no clear information from his district/station after they attended church meeting across the river. Paul Jr: Do you have the no of their leader Uchenna: Nope, except for a number that sent me text that my brother is missing: +234 807 162 1527 And up till now, there has been no communication from the church, beyond the above texts, on the whereabout of their own pastor, Pastor Ikenna Kevin Nnadi to his family, not even to his wife, who has been battling in and out of hospitals with her little child...

Olabode971:You will go anywhere you have ever dreamed of going bro. You will go places. Keep the thoughts green, you will achieve all of them. |
popeshemoo:Thanks bro for your kind wishes. Internships are always an opportunity to validate some of the theories learned in school. It also equips you with relevant skills required and needed in the industry. 99% of my lecturers during this second year of masters are from industries, IAEA, CEA, EDF, IRSN, etc. They are invited to teach the various courses and how they apply it in their place of work. They give life to theories. This morning, we will be having a physical class to learn one software. It's a software used to simulate the entire operation of a power plant. It is called SOPHIA and developed by CEA. It can't be used outside of CEA computers, hence the reason it's not installed in the school systems and softwares. This way, we get to know how everything learned in class is applied in the industry. Internship, thus, consolidates it all by giving you first hand operation. Here, it's compulsory to do internship, and not all internship topics are accepted. You have to work on a specific topic, under the guidance of a particular person/team to achieve a goal which you will outline in a form signed by both your school supervisor and internship supervisor before the internship starts. You will continously communicate with your school supervisor on the progress of your internship, what you are doing, etc. He will give directions and recommend other things you can do. And yes, you can fail internships and be asked to redo it if you don't achieve enough internship goals capable of awarding 30 ECTS units. Enjoy the rest of your day bro. |
Back to what I was saying, in class and laboratories, we study the properties of these elements under irradiation using these transport codes. The behaviour or the computation is done from data gotten from real nuclear experiments. These are the nuclear libraries. However, they vary from place to place. For instance, US uses their own library called ENDF while Europe developed theirs (JEFF), other countries have their own or they use the US library. During my internship, I will be working with the library from a research reactor from Japan. I will be validating it and making covariance analysis. Figure 1. A simple nuclear fuel looks like the image below. It's a uranium fuel inside a zircaloy cladding placed in a pool of water. The figure below, exhibits same exact properties of Uranium. Figure 2. Uranium fuel at the beginning of irradiation (This is gotten from Serpent simulation in our class) Figure 2. Uranium fuel pin after 2.7 years of fissioning/irradiation in a reactor core (Gotten during a simulation in class too). You can tell the difference right? Yes, SERPENT is able to replicate same phenomenon we will get in real simulation. These are simple geometry anyway. During my internship, I may be working on more complicated geometry. The images are more than I explained above. Lol. It's just for you to have an idea of the most talked about uranium and nothing more. Maybe I will talk about plutonium. It's interesting on it's on.
|
Since we may not be able to physically see Uranium, shouldn't be this difficult but because it's in high demand and scarce, it's become a sensitive commodity. In reality, you can touch uranium with your bare hands. They only become dangerous when they are irradiated. In mines or reprocessing plants, we get the uranium-6 (U-VI) popularly known as the yellow cake. You can get close to it, touch it and it won't harm you. It's only extremely dangerous once irradiated. UO2 with the oxidation state of 6 is the most stable state of uranium. From the mine, after crushing the uranium rock, it's reprocessed using TBP and Nitric acid, dried to get the yellow cake used in nuclear reactors.
|
So in other to study these elements or to build a nuclear reactor, alot of codes has been developed, they are called neutron transport codes. Alot of them exist now, only few are open sourced. The likes of MCNP (Monte Carlo Neutron Particle Transport code developed in the US is very not readily accessed. Even if you can pay for it (expensive), it is not released to just anyone. In fact, in my school, they have only 5 licenses. Thus, we can't use it to learn. Another one is called SERPENT code. This works like the MCNP, widely accepted and used. If you write to the developers, they can give you access to it. The open sourced neutron transport code is the one developed by MIT (I guess), it's called openMC (MC - Monte Carlo). In my school, we use SERPENT2 code. However, to connect via the school virtual machine, we have to first connect to the FBI server and then back to the school server such that everything is monitored. I mentioned this in earlier thread. With these transport codes, it is possible to simulate an entire reactor core, make designs, and simulations including accident scenarios. They give you same result you will likely get in a real nuclear reactor. Simple core geometry we did in class are shown below.
|
I will be working on validating nuclear data, gotten from various experiments. I will also work on what is called Covariance nuclear data analysis. A seemingly new way of validating nuclear data. You will not understand I will try to explain a little. We deal with sensitive elements, one that I don't know if I will ever be able to set my eyes on it. Most nuclear scientists and engineers might spend their career without setting their eyes on these elements - Uranium and Plutonium. |
