It goes to show why we are in the Europa league. After watching that performance from Barca, we are not in the same league as them. Simply put. grin

Jones in midfield again undecided

Thanks Fergie, he's really learning to be a top centerback there.

With regards to cover for Vidic. We definitely Smalling partnering Rio consistently and Jones at RB while the twins try not to maim themselves clipping their toenails. I have a feeling its going to be Evans partnering Rio though but when Rio inevitably gets injured its going to be Evans and Smalling. This scares me.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by MrTA(m): 11:30am On Dec 09, 2011
Vidic is out for the season.

I dont know what else to say.

Oh and Cleverly no longer scheduled to be back for the Christmas break but now expected in the new year.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by MrTA(m): 10:38am On Dec 09, 2011
I think SAF needed this sort of setback. Im sorry but Ive always believed the buck stops with the manager.

As much as I respect the man, everyone and their dog could see the problems in midfield in particular. This wasnt addressed in the summer.

I have no issue with the DeGea signing. He's obviously a good keeper but he's young so mistakes will happen. I really dont think he's been bad at all. Admittedly Lindegaard does like more assured but I have no complaints about having the 2 of them.

We also needed Phil Jones. I just dont agree with playing him in midfield. If he's not ready for the CB position put him in at RB. Smalling is ready for CB and should be Rio's first choice partner while Vidic is injured. The signing I was never sure we needed was Ashley young. I did think we needed another creative winger but not Ashley young exactly. we needed an Attacker can could play both midfield and out wide. Almost like a Modric/Sneihder type player. This team was absolutely crying out for that. Nothing was done.

Also, what is the point in freezing out Berbatov completely? If we werent going to play him why not sell him and get in a replacement? Completely pointless keeping in at the club and freezing him out.

If we want to do anything this season and not just pass it of as a season of transition we need the right player(s) in January.

Admittedly we also need our injury situation to improve. Phil Jones is the only first teamer who hasnt had an injury this season and that is pretty shocking.

By the way, Carrick was suspended for the Basel match that's why he didnt play.

Giggs and Jones in midfield.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Premier League Champions 2010/11 by MrTA(m): 11:16pm On Dec 07, 2011
Yeah, that was a Disaster.

Dont even know where to start but the top is always a good place.

Fergie killed us. He lied to us, when it was so obvious we needed someone like a Sneijder or a Modric he deserted us.

ive been saying it for over a year now but we have the worst midfield in probably the top 8.

We played 38 yr old Giggs and 19yr old Jones in midfield in an important european match away from home.

Giggs and Jones. Giggs and Jones. angry

Not blaming them individually, but its the squad thats the problem. So obvious.

We cannot rely on Rio and Vidic's fitness anymore. Vidic probably out for a long time now.

Anyways, hopefully we send the under 14s to the europa league and put all our eggs in a premier league shaped basket.

Will post more when wake up and hopefully this was all a terrrible terrible nightmare. smiley

Things can only get better from here.

Come on United.

Huge match tonight. Missing from the team are

Berbatov
Hernandez
Cleverly
Anderson
Twins
Carrick ( suspended)

Interested to see if Welbeck starts upfront with Rooney or if Rooney's starts upfront on his own. I think I might prefer the latter.

Derby draw shocked for the FA Cup. Bring it on.

Yes, I agree Carrick has been excellent lately. Would be interesting to see him and cleverly partnership if he keeps up this form.

I have to say I have not been impressed with Ashley Young at all. Will give him time.

We really cannot afford anymore injuries to the squad though.

That was stupidly dull. Shame as i thought we played well against Newcastle and Benfica. Obviously the injuries/lack of consistent team selection isnt helping but we really need to pick up our level for the festive period. Vidic and Carrick very good. Still no goals for Rooney is very worrying really.

Atleast our away form is good.

Subs: De Gea, Evans, Giggs, Park, Welbeck, Fletcher, Valencia

In other news, the twins will miss the Villa match, as will Berba. Apparently no word on Welbeck so I am hoping he will make the bench.

Diouf and Macheda will go out on loan in January.

Hopefully atleast Diouf has played his last game for united first team.

I just feel sorry for them. Its ok though, its difficult when your team goes trophy-less for 7 years.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Alex Song Vs John Mikel Obi by MrTA(m): 12:15pm On Dec 01, 2011
1025:
nigerians cannot judge a footballer well because we know close to nothing about football and truth. if alex song is as good as nigerians think, why is man city not calling him? why is madrid not looking for him? why is he not wanted by barca? abeg nigerians shld go and concentrate on their criminal activities and forget football.
how much is wenger paying alex and how much is chelsea paying mikel? players are paid according to their worth.
song is nothing but an arsenal player and as soon as he graduates, we will see chelsea, man u, man city, barca and madrid coming to take him on trial.
we saw nasri and fabregas in arsenal and we know where they are now. we are seeing van persie and we know that he is not signing a new contract with arsenal and man city as well as madrid and warming up to cash in on him.
let us wait till song begin to enjoy big boys salary and other clubs begin to see his goodness.
like i said, nigerians are only good in crimes and not football.
mikel is not a star but a super star.
This is by far the worst post I've seen on these forums and Ive seen alot of awful ones. Im going to assume it was tongue in cheek just to give the poster the benefit of the doubt because no one is that dumb.

Thought Morrison did ok actually. he was far far from one of the worst performers on the night.

People like Valencia, Park, Evans (again!) Fabio,Diuof, Macheda were very poor.

Gibson wasnt that bad aswell.
