DKA ANNUAL SHORT STORY COMPETITION 2023 (Maiden Edition) Are you a budding fictional writer interested in showcasing your talent and winning some money for your craft? Also, are you based in Nigeria, and can you attend the presentation event/ after- party in Ekiti State? If your answers are yes……perhaps you should throw your hat in the ring. A prize pot of N400,000 awaits the three finalists. Winner: N150k 1st Runner-up: N135k 2 nd Runner-up: N115k (Winning plaques accompanied by certificates will also be presented to all three finalists at the presentation event. PLS. READ TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY: Story to be submitted MUST NOT exceed five thousand words (5000.) Entry must not have been previously unpublished. The work must not have been submitted to a literary agent, publishing house, or imprint. Plagiarism would automatically disqualify entry, and the owner would be banned from future contests. All entries must be submitted before or by 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2023. Six finalists will be shortlisted and invited to attend the presentation event. Non-attendance will lead to forfeiture, and prize money will pass to the next contestant. I Am in the race to take a stand against bad governance! To take a stand against imposition and the stealing of party structures through undemocratic means! Am in the race to stop impunity and conscienceless plunder of the commonwealth and patrimony of our people. I have taken a stand and I am willing to stand by its consequences. I stand on the side of truth and conscience. I stand on the side of the people who die every day because of the absence of hospital infrastructure across the state! People whose pensions have been denied for several years and who die of want and deprivation even in the midst of plenty! I stand on the side of Restoring Abia to flourish. I do not aspire to be a good politician and will not be. I aspire to be a man of conscience and conviction and to be fearless and courageous in my pursuit of the greatest good of the greater majority of our people. Martin Luther King took a stand. Mandela took a stand. I have taken a stand and I am on the side of what I believe in. I have decided to stand with the people against the oppressors of their destiny. I honestly believe that only through a selfless pursuit of the good of our people rather than political interest can our people be saved from the dungeon and abyss of hopelessness and grieve they have been plunged into these two and half decades. That is the side I am on. Our individual successes shall not only be reckoned by our various individual accomplishments but by our collective contribution towards the development of the place we call hone. It is my candid prayer and supplication that we all join hands to restore and rebuild Abia. We must, more than ever, determine to plant trees even if we must not be around to find safety under it. We hereby categorically and strongly deny all the accusations contained in the recent press statement released by one Apex Socio-Political Organization in South-East, Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) and published by Aba City Blog, who claims to be acting on behalf of non-indigenes in Aba South. The said allegations are not only untrue, they are malicious and scurrilous and a calculated attempt to sabotage the image of our brand, “Thanna Hand Sanitizer”. Thanna Hand Sanitizer, proudly produced in Aba, has a National and International acceptability in household products, does not reduce the quality and essence of a sanitizer. The sanitizer was produced with Tea, Cabopon (Thickener), Aloe Vera Gel, Glycerin, Methanol, Isopropyl and Fragrance. Whilst that in itself has been produced to kill harmful germs and help keep hands soft, we found it more compelling to make it affordable for people to use against spread of germs during this pandemic. It is important to clear that for us at Thanna, the pandemic presented an opportunity to launch the sanitizer, to not just protect people from harmful germs, but to also provide an affordable alternative to popular brands.
