Car Talk / Re: How Does The Use Of Car AC Affect Fuel Consumption? by mrtunde(m): 5:17pm On Feb 29, 2008
Get this.
Any activity of the car that involves you using more engine capacity, will result in more fuel consumption. It is very logical.

Even something as seemimgly mundane as using your headlights at night.

So i agree with the earliers posts. Tyre pressure, engine condition, aerodynamics, speed, driving habits etc affect your fuel consumption.

But you should not sweat fuel consumption really. If you can afford a ride, you can afford to maintain it.

Oooo my Amala
Oooo my Amala
When shall i see you ooooooooo?
When shall i see, Amala and abula i will never forget Ogunfe.

meeennn, I feel like a thousand raps right now.

The great amala joints have already been mentioned. I will like to add coca-cola at Marina. Their amala is not the bomb, but decent. Its the closest you have to the real thing.

Amala is best served in a calabash with abula (all in together and ate with five fingers). anything else will lose its authenticity.

Romance / Re: My Girlfriend Lied About Her Age: Should I Dump Her? by mrtunde(m): 9:40am On Oct 26, 2007
Saggy,
you know, the first step is to determine if you do not have any trouble accepting the fact that you are younger.
from what i've read, she definately does not have trouble accepting the situation.

If you come to the conclusion that you do not mind the age difference, then scold her a little while (which i assume you had done enough already) and move on.

i sense a lot of affection and passion in your writings. you love this girl, she obviously loves you too. That is more important than the sequencing of birth days.

however, you need to drive it home in no uncertain terms, that you will not accept any more lies or deliberate withholding of information. say all the nice things about how successful relationships are built on trust blah blah blah and move on.

I suspect you are a muslim, (sallah break and all). if you are, then you should probably know that you Prophet M'med (PBUH) first wife was older than him. That is a worthy example for you.

cheers

Food / Re: Mr Biggs' Fried Rice by mrtunde(m): 4:37pm On Oct 23, 2007
Why would anyone eat out of Mr. Biggs in the first instance.
They are the least professional of all the eateries i know.
They serve pork (diced) in their fried/jollof rice (muslims don't eat pork)
their service girls are not very pretty. they don't smile at you
they never have change!
some outlets are actually dirty!
and their meals are cold.
the list goes on and on.
i stopped eating at any mr. biggs almost a year ago!
Business / Re: Transcorp Board Reconstituted: Are They Ready To Fly? by mrtunde(m): 12:05pm On Oct 22, 2007
I would not touch transcorp with a long stick.
I mean, what businesses do they have in their portfolio to warrant even N4 per share?
Running a business is a lot like personal finance. Your cost has to be lower than your income to have savings or profit in the case of a company!.
for transcorp, to start with, Nitel was acquired for far in excess of what it was worth. Nitel again is bleeding cash and would require heavy investment of cash (which transcorp does not have) to bring it back to life. I guess you can always say the banks will lend transcorp money but no serious bank will do that when Nitel's competitors have run-away market shares, the cream of the customers and are better capitalized!

The managers of Transcorp has to diversify their portfolio and focus on businesses that will bring instant cash. nitel is not one of the. To get there is a good five years of relentless efforts.

unfortunately, Transcorp does not have a guaranty of participating in the lucrative oil & gas sector as promised by OBJ. this would have provided them with a lot of cash to cover up the hole in Nitel.

Transcorp is a sum of its parts. and those parts are standing on precarious grounds.

Investment advice, buy, only if you are ready to wait 5 years!!!

Key Battles: The players to watch on Saturday

Arsenal will return to their flourishing domestic campaign on Saturday when they entertain strugggling Bolton. The visitors, who parted company with Sammy Lee this week, have traditionally caused the Gunners problems. However they currently sit second from bottom and are without a manager. The Trotters have former Arsenal striker Nicolas Anelka in their ranks, but the Frenchman picked up an injury over the international break and is yet to be confirmed as available. This season Arsenal.com will be identifying the key battles for each Premier League game and bringing you all the statistics and information a fan could need. Swot up now and come Sunday you'll be impressing anyone who'll listen with your new-found knowledge.

Gael Clichy v Kevin Davies
Gael Clichy is fast emerging as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League. The young Frenchman has drawn plaudits from the press with his solid defending and his ambitious forays forward. He has successfully completed over 60 per cent of his dribbles and made 63 passes. His reading of the game has led to 11 clearances three blocked shots. Yet to score for the club, Gael plays as more of a link man in the final third and is a most valuable outlet. In his position he is used to all kinds of customers but in Kevin Davies he will be in for a tough afternoon. The big Bolton man has been a thorn in the side of many defenders over the years, and his no-nonsense physical approach has certainly ruffled a few feathers along the way. The Englishman is yet to score this season, but has shot goalwards five times. He makes good use of the ball, completing 66 per cent of passes, and has run with the ball on five occasions.

Key Battle

Cesc Fabregas v Gary Speed
The 20-year-old talent of Cesc Fabregas will go head-to-head with the Premier League’s most capped player on Saturday. Cesc is having a phenomenal season in the heart of the Arsenal midfield, scoring four and setting up six league goals. His ‘shoot on sight’ philosophy has seen him work the goalkeeper on 11 other occasions. Cesc has impressed fans and media alike by adding a tough approach to his game too. The Spaniard has made 14 tackles and put his body in the way of five shots. In Gary Speed he will be up against a highly-respected professional. Speed, recently part of Bolton’s coaching set-up, is yet to score but has shot at goal 10 times. He is fierce in the tackle, making 23 this season, and has wonderful vision. The former Welsh captain has made 40 successful passes so far this term. Speed recently relinquished his coaching duties to focus on his Bolton form.

Key Battle

Emmanuel Adebayor v Abdoulaye Meite
Arsenal’s Togolese star has had a difficult week while on international duty. The striker’s home country has failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations and Adebayor is now dealing with the news that his strike partner Robin van Persie faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. With his domestic campaign flourishing though, Arsenal fans can expect Adebayor to put it behind him and continue where he left off before the international break. The 23-year-old has scored six goals and hit the target 12 times. His influence on the team is demonstrated in his link-up play with 34 passes made. He is just as useful when running with the ball, completing more than 60 per cent of his dribbles,

Key Battle

Its not true!
I think we should differentiate between Interest rate charged when you borrow from the bank (now about 18% across board excluding fees) and interest rate paid when you fix you money for a specified period of time (term deposit or fixed deposit). fixed deposit rates will vary depending on the amount of money you want to fix. usually, the higher the volume of money, the higher the rate but not exceeding 13% or so. please note that all rates are per annum.

Sports / Mesmerizing Arsenal: Welcome To The Future by mrtunde(m): 3:15pm On Sep 20, 2007
For the last couple of years, many of us have speculated that the future might belong to Arsenal. Reaching the UEFA Champions League final in 2006 was almost an aberration of timing: the youngsters certainly needed a season or two to refine their games under the wise tutelage of Arsene Wenger.

While it's still early in the current campaign, can any side in European football match Arsenal for aptitude and entertainment at the moment? I was frankly mesmerized by them on Wednesday night in the Champions League meeting with a very capable Sevilla side. That the UEFA Cup holders were soundly beaten 3-0 was no statement about the Andalucians' inadequacies. This was a match of a very high level.

Arsenal celebrate during the 3-0 Champions League win against FC Sevilla

It's almost as though Arsenal have been freed up by the transfer of Thierry Henry to Barcelona. I, and a few others, felt that without the fantastic Frenchman, the Gunners might, temporarily at least, take a few steps in a backward direction. Instead, we're being treated to football with a smile, a deep-seated commitment to pure attacking at a pace most teams can only dream about.

Perhaps, it's too early to make judgements. After all, the resources of Wenger's squad have yet to be properly tested. But every season we're introduced to a new name or two and rarely do they fail. Bacary Sagna is this summer's shining example, following in the footsteps of Emmanuel Eboue, Kolo Toure and the brilliantly gifted Cesc Fabregas.

I'm writing this column while listening to Wenger's post-match press comments and he's hit the nail on the head with his remark that there's a new maturity about the current Arsenal team.

One of my ESPN producers asked me the other day for my prediction as to who's going to be crowned European club champions this season. My answer? Well, I think you might be able to guess!

Men!
This is one of those many opportunities the police use to extort Nigerians.
Yes, i think there is a law requiring police permit for tinted vehicles.
But the wahala is, you can only get the permit from certain police stations.
You will pay something between 45k to 60k depending on the greed of the police officer that attends to you.
You will not get a receipt and you will be asked to come back in a day or so to collect it.

I just did mine. if you do not have it, you may have to part with 500 - 1000 naira everytime you are stopped. which is probably 2-3 times a day depending on your route.

Its really sad.
