We won against Rwanda but let me not lie, from the moment I saw Aina as left back and Chukwueze in midfield, I lost some ounce of faith.

And then to repeat the same thing yesterday is unpardonable. I doubt Chelle's tactical nous.

Aina is the best RB in the EPL. Why manage him as a left back and play a mediocre Osayi as RB? Wouldn't it have been better to play Aina as a RB and enjoy maximum performance from him and then play Bruno who is also good in joining the attack on the left?

As long as we continue to play players out of position, things like these will continue to happen

Did you see that Ndidi miss? 😂 that’s enough for even fifa deduct 3 points. Apologies to Aiyegbeni!
Kanu will not miss that Ndidi opportunity. Laye. Several times in the 18, I saw our players in a rush to shoot. I scratch my head. Player go don block you, you go still shoot. Why not cut and pass to another player or create space for yourself and shoot?

Na coach go come teach them that one again?

That's where the problem lies. But it's not a matter of enjoying him or not. He played well yesterday. If we say we need a better CM, fine. Nobody will oppose that.

I will not baba, check out his over 80 caps and tell me what Iwobi bring to the table,we are still remembering Henry Nwosu,Austin Okocha and Mikel Obi not cuz of caps but what they did in some matches.....Iwobi I watched against Zimbabwe, haba no no o
Iwobi has 10 goals. Without him we would not have qualified for the last World Cup we played. Go and watch the last Afcon matches against Cameroun and Angola. Iwobi even though he played deep throughout Afcon, gave the pre-assist to the second goal we scored against Cameroun and then the only goal we scored against Angola. You see I'm talking factually now. Not some bubbly notion about how good he is. I'm giving you facts.

Baba, sorry oo you no watch yesterday match well. Tension color your vision. But more than that you have preconceived notions and you watched Iwobi with that eye.

Iwobi was a standout performer yesterday.

Point is that I'm not saying he should not be criticized. But at the same time, we should be realistic. If a player, plays well. Applaud him. If he does not, criticise him.

The fact of yesterday's match was that apart from Osimhen, Iwobi was the next best player out of our attacking players. Lookman, Simon, Chukwueze were poor. To show how biased you are in your analysis, you have not mentioned how bad these players played yesterday. Na Iwobi shaaaaa. He must be blamed. It's mimetic

The thing with Iwobi is that we want a better creative midfielder. That is a valid point nevertheless we often conflate our desire for a better CM with the match to match performance of Iwobi and then judge him unfairly.

We should separate the conversation: there is the conversation on our need for a better CM. There is also the conversation on the match to match performance of Iwobi. Yesterday oo, he played well.

From Rohr to Eguavoen to Peseiro to Finidi to Eguavoen again and now Chelle, Iwobi continues to feature. Una say he is terrible. Abi him dey use juju confuse the coach?

Moses Simon failed woefully yesterday. Couldn't make any successful dribble to set up any reasonable chance even though we used his side to attack most of the time.

Iwobi shouldn't be starting if we had a better option. I haven't seen the hype around that guy and I don't know what he actually contributes to that team. We keep on changing his position to accommodate Jo's strengths when the truth is that the guy is an average midfielder on his best days whose only concern is social media and Snapchat.
Iwobi hyped? Nope. It has been attack upon attack whenever he plays for Nigeria. If we win oo, Iwobi will be blamed.. If we lose, he will still be blamed.

Elder, with all due respect visit an optician for new glasses.

Iwobi played well and delivered a masterclass of a performance yesterday. He did his job and that of Ndidi. He was always dropping deep to collect the ball from the defenders, a job which ordinarily Ndidi ought to have been doing.

Ndidi was the weak link in that midfield due to his poor positional awareness, lack of anticipation, poor passing, ball-carrying & advancing ability.

Removing Iwobi was a wrong call by the coach. Rather, Ndidi ought to have been removed for Alhassan Yusuf or Onyedika.

Pls dead this talk of home-based players. This foreign-based despite their disappointing results, I still believe are better than the home-based players.

No worry, CHAN no too far so we'll come back to ths issue of home-based players again.
I am genuinely shocked that he said Iwobi was terrible yesterday. Even the commentator said that Iwobi covered every blade of grass yesterday.

He played really well but you see Iwobi has become a meme in the minds of Nigerians. Even if he plays well, they will still blame him.

It's awful.

grin

This thread is one of the problems of the Super Eagles. Some of you hype players like Chukwueze as if they were Lionel Messi, raising expectations to unrealistic heights based on false beliefs, only to be disappointed when reality sets in.

To be fair, Chelle seems like a good coach. Tactically, he appears competent enough to take us to the next level. Blaming the NFF? Well, they are always the scapegoats, rather than addressing the overhyped players.

As for the names most of you are mentioning as "missing," they wouldn’t make much of a difference. This is the same way 99% of players were hyped before their invitations and integration into the squad.

Did they play like there was anything at stake? How many clear chances and opportunities were missed? Are we really going to pin all of this on Chelle or the NFF again?

They’ve been tagged as Vibes FC, and they own it with their full chest, yet we somehow want to believe they’re still good enough to represent the Green and White.

It’s time to give local players a chance to shine. Remo Stars or their feeders team, Beyond Limits, would destroy Zimbabwe with ease.

It is the coach that has the power to substitute players...

if the coach would rather be stubborn and leave tired players on the pitch to defend when there are fit players on the bench then it is the coach's fault..

Ekong, Iwobi, Bassey, Lookman, Aina are foreign born players which means they cannot handle 90mins of Nigerian heat or African heat on the field so them playing more than 65 - 70 mins should be an abomination...

Nigerian players with the attitude of Onyeka who can run all over field should be the ones getting invited.

Foreign born players are good but they should not be allowed to play full match especially since they will start the next match.

NFF and most Nigerians don't consider players fatigue and tiredness from previous matches can affect their performances..
Na wa. Whenever we lose, one reads all sorts of outlandish, thoughtless comments which provokes one more than the loss suffered.

Abeg this idea of you never change a winning team requires re-examination. Cos this slavish adherence to that philosophy can be costly sometimes.

What’s the essence of inviting 23 players and you use the first eleven twice?

This is what cost us the last Afcon. Our players were jaded. Peseiro stuck to the philosophy of never changing a winning team. Well, winning team was defeated.

Meanwhile in Afcon 94, Westerhof brought in Amunike in the final when he hadn't featured in any match previously. Guess what? Amunike scored twice.

Lookman was poor today but when players are played out of position, their effectiveness is compromised.

When I saw Chelle stick to Osayi at LB, I was not pleased and I was not feeling good somewhat. Aina may be ambipedal, yes... but he is most effective as a RB all day!!!

Chelle made his point with Osayi as RB vs Rwanda but repeating such for Zimbabwe tells me he may have tactical personnel stiffness tendencies.

Bruno is a better LB than Osayi yet Chellechukwu did what he did.
That it worked against Rwanda is no guarantee that it would work subsequently. It's awful.

The entire right hand side of our attack was flat. Aina, Lookman, Iwobi, Simon, all of them concentrated on the left hand side of attack.

The guys really tried but this is all on the coach. The starting formation, tactics and personnel choice were wrong. Then also when we finally scored, wrong substitutions, wrong instructions. Osayi, lookman and ndid should have been taking out as they were all exhausted but instead he brought in Boniface to do what exactly, when a more defensive sub and game plan should have been used. Hopefully this is a learning curve for him and he realizes his mistakes and doesn't stubbornly want to keep with this stupid formation,if not we are in for a long ride. World cup dream is officially over,we can move on to other things.
Once I saw Aina on the left and Osayi on the right again, I just became cold. I was never comfortable all through the match.
