Napoleon55: I wonder why our coaches don't see all these things, any of these players deployments in midfield you and Charles put out can win us our remaining matches, but they will keep playing only Ndidi and Iwobi in our midfield.
I wish they have time to visits this thread sometimes. It's shocking. Since Rohr, our midfield set up has been a disaster and we continously pay the prize for it. Chelle has come and it appears at least from his set up in the last two matches that the problem will persist. Is setting up the midfield which is the heartbeat of the team nuclear physics? Elyte89 I regret that you didn't get this job at least ChrisKels, charlesemeka85 and TheSuperNerd would have been very brainy assistants to you. I'm impressed by their tactical nous. For now I don't trust Chelle oo. I don't. |

charlesemeka85: one thing pple don’t see in Chrisantus game is he is a ball playing midfielder with good technique and passing ability who is also a threat in the opposition’s 18 yard box. In him I see that B2B force/machine that we all have been yawning for many years. He is just like Yaya toure
Onyeka will then serve as the CDM who can also venture forward when required but expected to be on alert to help onyedika wade off opposition’s threat in the middle
Onyedika then will be given the full license and instruction to be the link between the defence to the entire team because of his accurate passing range both long and short and calmness on the ball Wetin dey surprise me na be say una sabi this thing pass this coaches. It's theory oo but it's sweet theory. I am yet to get over Chelle playing with such haggard selection. |

TheSuperNerd: I am loving that midfield 3 and especially because of the role you assigned Iwobi. Playing him on the right or left as we see at Fulham will work. He will operate as a creative "Wingfielder" not winger particularly.
Since Lookman is more effective from the left halfspace, then Iwobi will feature from the right benching Chuks.
But damn! That midfield 3 of Onyeka, Onyedika, Uche potentially has the elements of a tactically balanced midfield force that still has an Iwobi on the pitch but wingwards. It rivals and "may" even be better than the potential trio of Iwobi, Onyedika and Uche based on who connects them on the right. Now I know that Oliseh was a gem. 4 assist as a midfielder at Afcon 94. Someone said on cyber eagles and I agree with him that we never understood and appreciated Oliseh, that Oliseh was not a DM but a DLM. |

Goke7: Was the same Onyeka not in Afcon? Apart from him who else Dey? how many players una get to do all the running for Iwobi, which of them is ready to suspend their own kind of passing game for Iwobi? Mikel too struggled for long until victor Moses came may be because they both played in Chelsea I don’t know, I don’t think Iwobi may ever get the kind of partnership that some of us think he needs to make more impact. Miracles do happen though! Play two holding midfielders - Ndidi, Onyeka, Onyedika, Uche - and deploy Iwobi as the tip of the triangle so he sits in the hole behind the 3 attackers. Na woto woto dem go collect |

Danielnino00: Iwobi is on course to hit double digit goals this season.... His best season in his premier league career and he is doing it in his preferred position..
This idea of using him in a 2 man midfield is why he is constantly underperformed and been used a a scapegoat, sort of by disgruntled fans.... Chelle need to stop it... If at all he wants to use a 2 man midfield, let Iwobi start on the flank...that way, he can easily drop to midfield at will and provide extra bodies..... We that we are not coaches, we see these things. Are these coaches blind ni? |

I just came back from watching all his PKs and don't see anything terrible about his PK technique or anywhere he looked like he lacked confidence. He drops his shoulder in the direction he wants to play the ball. That's what yinkeys meant talking about body language. He needs to improve. And there's nothing wrong with that. |

He has taken 8 penalties this season and scored 8 of them... He has just 6 misses in 28 career penalties taken... He has scored top goalkeepers in the process too. He has taken the highest number of penalties in all players from this current Nigerian squad and has a high conversion rate.
He go score Donnaruma or Martinez, even top goal scorers are seeing their penalties saved, no be new thing. He's good and scoring penalties is already a strong suit for him, I no know which improvement you dey talk again because Fenerbahçe goalie touched the PK? That Sunday afternoon’s MTN ad after the game capped it all.

The duo of Awesu and Usiyen left Nigeria to United States to pursue their academic goals and fans were shattered by that decision, funny AWESU left without informing his club and friends like Okala,Muda Lawal.
Kunle Awesu lived a very secluded life and till date nobody can trace his family history, his wife, children even his grandparents but from what I heard Kunle Awesu hailed from Offa in Kwara State.

Hope you remember Peseiro too preferred Aina as LB when Sanusi wasn't available during Afcon with Bruno in the team.....he put Osayi as RB and Aina as LB.
I got your point, but a very solid LB in the team would not have been on the bench for right footer or possibly have not watched Bruno keenly. Aina played as RB throughout Afcon. But we have watched Bruno. He's better on that left than Osayi is on the right. |

Drew that match was just the only minus My logic is not about the averageness of our LB. My logic is that if you play Aina on the right, you utilize him at his best. See what eventually happened: we used Aina on the LB and got a goal but it was through the right side of our defense that Zimbabwe scored. |

Daninya33: CHELLE TO OVERHAUL SUPER EAGLES •New Players May Prosecute Int'l Friendlies
Some players of the Super Eagles may be facing the exit door of the team during and after the international break week.
Apparently not satisfied with the performance of his team in the 1-1 drawn game against Warriors of Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifier played in Uyo, Chelle is set to invite new set of players to prosecute the international friendly against Russia in June and the 4-Nation tournament that will follow.
Eagles will be involved in an invitational tournament with Ghana and Jamaica after the friendly with Russia. Chelle plans to test new players with these games.
"He has about 20 new players on his list and if most of them excel in the games during the international break then, some senior or old players in the original team will be on their way out," an impeccable source in the NFF revealed.
The source went further, "He (Chelle) wanted to use these new players in the game against Rwanda and Zimbabwe but he was asked not to experiment with the new players because it may backfire.
"But after the game against Zimbabwe, he made up his mind to try the new players during the international break to prepare for the September World Cup qualification outing of the team."
Another report says, Chelle has Lesley Ugochukwu, George Ilenikhena, Carney Chukwuemeka among other players he has on his radar to discuss with, with a prospect to play for Nigeria.
Perhaps this piece of news may coerce Super Eagles players to sit up. Most of them have been posting very dismal or below par performance in recent times.
Recently Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface appealed to fans of Super Eagles to be patient with him after scoring in the 3-1 defeat of Bochum last Friday. He has featured in 11 games for Super Eagles including the last against Zimbabwe scoring just once.
© DESMOND EKWUEME Chelle himself should overhaul his thinking. Playing Aina as LB twice shows that he is not flexible. |

chrisooblog: D'Law I you're allowing the fact that we got to the finals of last year's AFCON cloud your judgment as to the efficacy and suitability of that formation to the SE general play.
For all the it's defensive functionality the 3-5-2 formation has inherent flaws which our opponents exploited.
Rather than adopting a dogmatic approach to how the team should be set up I always prefer being flexible enough to choose a formation that will gift you the best chance of beating an opponent depending on their style and make up.
Using Chelle's example the approach adopted against Zimbabwe was ok but for whatever reason we were not clinical enough. Now the mistake Eric made not reading the situation to say you know what 1 goal will be fine let me lock up and maintain this lead.
Flip it to JP against CIV part 2 being ultra defensive facing a team with quality players to unlock your defensive was always going to be trouble. Iwobi himself said it that the Ivorians were clever to come up with a strategy that gave them extra numbers in midfield meaning Alex and Onyeka were busy curtailing the Ivorians cutting off our forwards. JP should have been flexible enough to alter the set up but he was too many scared to change something that worked most of the tournament. Beautiful post. I agree with all you said especially the bolded. But the essential point is that Peseiro was pragmatic to adopt a strategy that got us as far as the finals but like you pointed out, he too became stuck to the system and the personnel. A coach must be flexible. Chelle should know when to tweak his formation and at this point I don't believe we have to play the same first eleven in every match. The guys who played against Rwanda were tired. We should have maybe started with Iwobi and Onyedika in midfield. Do you know that Chelle invited only two wing forwards? |
