Once had to go to a court to get an affidavit in a Northern town. Its like u are trying to discourage or kill the little hope that many of us suffering from hearing have. Or I deduce u are trying to sell ur speech training. Pls if u have no good thing to talk about here except discouragement so that u can sell, get out of here. Many of us are not babies, we just suffer from this at a particular time. Pls all we need is solution, u are not a doctor, even my doctor never mention some of the trash u are talking about. I beg u leave this page and let us find better course for our problems don't mind him... If we all start looking at side effect, then nobody will take malaria drugs or any antibiotics again cos they all have so many contra indications. |

sonya4all: Other Risks Associated with the Use of Cochlear Implants
People with a cochlear implant :*.May hear sounds differently.Sound impressions from an implant differ from normal hearing, according to people who could hear before they became deaf. At first, users describe the sound as"mechanical", "technical", or"synthetic". This perception changes over time, and most users do not notice this artificial sound quality after a few weeks of cochlear implant use .*.May lose residual hearing. The implant may destroy any remaining hearing in the implanted ear. *.May have unknown and uncertain effects. The cochlear implant stimulates the nerves directly with electrical currents. Although this stimulation appears to be safe, the long term effect of these electrical currents on the nerves is unknown .*.May not hear as well as others who have had successful outcomes with their implants .*.May not be able to understand language well. There is no test a person can take before surgery that will predict how well he or she will understand language after surgery .*.May have to have it removed temporarily or permanently if an infection develops after the implant surgery. However, this is a rare complication .*.May have their implant fail.In this situation, a person with an implant would need to have additional surgery to resolve this problem and would be exposed to the risks of surgery again .*.May not be able to upgrad etheir implant when new external components become available. Implanted parts are usually compatible with improved external parts. That way, as advances in technology develop, one can upgrade his or her implant by changing only its external parts. In some cases, though, this won't work and the implant will need changing .*.May not be able to have some medical examinations and treatments. These treatments include: *.MRI imaging. MRI is becoming a more routine diagnostic method for early detection of medical problems. Even being close to an MRI imaging unit will be dangerous because it may dislodge the implant or demagnetize its internal magnet. FDA has approved some implants, however, for some types of MRI studies done under controlled conditions .*.neurostimulation. *.electrical surgery. *.electroconvulsive therapy. *.ionic radiation therapy. *.Will depend on batteries for hearing. For some devices new or recharged batteries are needed every day .*.May damage their implant.Contactsports, automobile accidents, slips and falls, or other impacts near the ear can damage the implant. This may mean needing a new implant and more surgery. It is unknown whether a new implant would work as well as the old one .*.May find them expensive.Replacing damaged or lost parts may be expensive. *.Will have to use it for the rest of life.During a person's lifetime, the manufacturer of the cochlear implant could go out of business. Whether a person will be able to get replacement parts or other customer service in the future is uncertain .*.May have lifestyle changes because their implant will interact with the electronic environment. An implant may *.set off theft detection systems *.set off metal detectors or othersecurity systems *.be affected by cellular phone users or other radio transmitters *.have to be turned off during take offs and landings in aircraft *.interact in unpredictable ways with other computer systems *.Will have to be careful of static electricity. Static electricity may temporarily or permanently damage a cochlear implant. It may be good practice to remove the processor and headset before contact with static generating materials such as children's plastic play equipment, TV screens, computer monitors, or synthetic fabric. For more details regarding how to deal with static electricity, contact the manufacturer or implant center .*.Have less ability to hear both soft sounds and loud sounds without changing the sensitivity of the implant. The sensitivity of normal hearing is adjusted continuously by the brain, but the design of cochlear implants requires that a person manually change sensitivity setting of the device as the sound environment changes .*.May develop irritation where the external part rubs on the skin and have to remove it for a while. *.Can't let the external parts get wet.Damage from water may be expensive to repair and the person may be without hearing until the implant is repaired. Thus, the person will need to remove the external parts of the device when bathing, showering, swimming, or participating in water sports .*.May hear strange sounds caused by its interaction with magnetic fields, like those near airport passenger screening machines. even ordinary paracetamol has contraindications, so nno big deal. |

Thanks for the advice. The hearing aids i got for him is for a digital pedeatrics hearing aid by oticon. The next step after this is a complete miracle for restoration of his hearing by God almighty. If not,i will do all i can do and raise money for conclear inplant for him. |

Ademoore07: Amen. Thanks for your advise Thats not the best thing to do. Its expensive we know... But its good to do the right thing so as to get the right results. There are different types of hearing aids viz 1.Reciver in canal 2.completely in canal 3.Behind the ear 4.In the ear 5.Tinutus 6.single sided hearing and lots more. From your story, you said you are having noise in the ear(Tinutus). Its only an audiologist/ENT that will know the particular aid that you will need, and they are the only ones to program it for you. What about servicing the aids? What about remoulding in case its broken? I advice you source for the money and get it from the right place and or also apply to NGO |

Ademoore07: Thanks very much bro. I learnt Amazon doesn't work in Nigeria. Moreso, I had contacted starkey company in the US with my medical report, they said don't sell aids to patients. Also, if I had the opportunity to get it from foreign dealer, it must first be programmed for my ear since it is digital based on my medical report. Unfortunately, western countries don't believe in our medical report unless they did their own test. Smh Western people believe in our medical report, depending on were you did it. A company like starkey will believe your complete audio analysis test if you bring it from places like BSA hearing or Phonics hearing, because they are starkey patners here in Lagos,Nigeria. Secondly, its thge result from your hearing loss, that will tell how the audiologist will program the hearing aid for you,so if youn have a profound hearing loss, its not advisable to just buy from anywere. |

Ademoore07: I'm a tinnitus patient of over 25 year now. By tinnitus, I mean noise in single or both ears. Though, the real cause and solution is unknown. I had been managing this issue without the use of hearing aid for almost 25 years now. Since last year, things get worse. I could hardly perceived what someone is saying clearly. Right from onset, my ENT doctor prescribed for drugs such as Neurobion, Prednisolone and Vitamin B-complex, unfortunately those couldn't stop the noise nor improves my ears perception to sounds. Three weeks ago, I went for an audiometry test at a reputable teaching hospital in South western part of Nigeria. The doctor diagnose me of Profound hearing loss with tinnitus. He advised that I should purchase a digital hearing aid with sophisticated technologies that even work with phones. He made mention of products such as Siemens Signia, starkey hearing aids. Although, I had contacted most of these companies in nigeria and I received a shocker of my life. The prices of this aids were just too outrageous. The cheapest I heard of cost three hundred and fifty thousand naira (350,000). There are other products from companies such as widex and audifon, but my doctor warned me against them. If there is anyone who had encountered this ailment with relevant prescription or direction to the right dealers/sellers should please share your advise with me. Please, help a brother Its a very serious issue... Siemens and starkey seems to be among the best. I am currently hustling for 820k to get hearing aids for my son. Its not easy. |

redsceptic: If you can not scientifically defend the practice keep quiet. I can scientifically condemn it.
Not all children walk at the same age. Different people reach the milestone at different ages. Some never do. The cause of developmental delay should be sought by a professional.
The child is at risk of infection from earth dwelling microbes including viruses, bacteria and fungi. He may contract tetanus, botilinism, anthrax, , histoplasmosis, cryptosporidium, aspergillosis, pneumococcus, pneumocysticosis and strachybotrys among more than 100 other possibilities. Among the bacteria let us mention the gram negatives as well as coliforms (bacteria found in human and animal waste)
Many of these have no effective treatment even with modern medicines
He may be exposed to elemental poisoning from man made and natural substances in the soil including radioactive waste, lead, products of degradation of plastics and other compounds, degradation products of insecticides and herbicides, leeched byproducts of industrial processes and mining etc.
Apart from sickness, this child is being subjected to mental and physical abuse by ignorant and/or wicked guardians.
Yet some people come here to defend this barbarism. Shame on you.
Black man. I give you hand o! No wonder we are last in everything that matters Which physical and mental abuse are you talking about? Have you been to a physiotheraphy session before to see how they work on children who are having all sorts of muscle and nerver problems? Its not here say... I visit there with my children twice a week.. Which physical abuse is more than that? You guys will just see something and conclude when you have no idea of what its all about. |
