It is no news that corruption is a bane to our country's( Nigeria) development, in as much as we must fight corruption to the later, we must also stand up against those that had opportunity to save Nigeria frm corruption when they were in office. Today, all corrupt politicians suddenly become saints after failed elections, they come together to form an opposition forum to press home their grievances of failed election, and disrupt the government frm providing the electorate with the needed dividends of democracy. They aggrieved politicians achieve this selfish gains in the guise of fighting corruption when they themselves are epiotome of corruption. We all know wot El-rufai did when he was d Fct minister, and many helpless Nigerians he rendered homeless, hw many plots he converted to his own esp dat of PHCN, which if was used to build transmitting station would have helped improved power in d country, does dis kind of man hav the effontry to tell Nigerians that anyone his corrupt? Does he? If he had lived an exemplary life while in office, Nigerians wud hav supported his mission and dat of his cronies Dino Melaye and Buhari. I dnt even want to dwell on Dino, dat one is a puppet in the hands of indicted oil marketers, they use him and pay him to rant and fight govt for their sake, hw many Nigerians who are not corrupt have the kind of wealth Dino has, was it his salary that he use in buying those expensive cars of his and mansions, if not stolen money, today govt doesn't favour them and the capitalize on the gullible nature of Nigerians to make them believe they r saints...We Nigerians must not allow ourselves be used by aggreived politicians who have ammase so much wealth, they must first return wot they stole, the anti corruption must start with them..we must occupy all the El rufais and the Dino Melayes. Enough is Enough. |
Politics / FG Woos More Oil Investors by MurphyT1: 9:41am On Nov 13, 2012 |
The federal government says it is desirous of encouraging investors who are willing to invest in the new frontiers of the oil and gas sector. The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, disclosed this at the 30th edition of Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists’ (NAPE) Annual International Conference and Exhibitions in Lagos on Monday. The minister said that the conference could not have come at a better time, especially against the background of “competitive pressure” from Nigeria’s neighbours. She said that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), currently before the National Assembly, would provide incentives for those willing to invest in the new frontier oil exploration activities. Alison-Madueke, who was represented by Osten Olorunsola, a Director in the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), said that other sectors, especially the power sector, would benefit immensely from the new frontier. She said that the government would continue to count on the support of NAPE to have a better and commercially rewarding oil and gas industry; and urged NAPE to come up with ideas that would help the oil and gas industry. The minister said she was particularly happy that the oil exploration activities had picked up in the last 12 months; adding that no less than seven exploration rigs were currently in operation in different areas. Andy Yakubu, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, said that the corporation was already repositioning its subsidiaries and building on its success in the sector. He said that the government would continue to place more efforts on the new frontiers because there were potentials in the inland basins; and expressed happiness with the exploratory activities in Anambra, Bida, Sokoto, Yola, among others. He said the government had made budgetary provision for development of inland basins and solicited for partnership. Supo Shadiya, the Executive Director, Chevron Nigeria Ltd., said that the demand for energy continued to be strong worldwide; adding that Nigeria’s oil and gas industry was well positioned and fertile for steady growth and a robust development that could diversify the country’s resources. http://dailytimes.com.ng/article/fg-woos-more-oil-investors |
Politics / Oil Wells: Bayelsa State, Others To Refund N17.5 Billion To Rivers by MurphyT1: 11:36am On Nov 12, 2012 |
The Federal Government has ordered seven states to refund N17.5 billion to Rivers State following a chain of controversies over the ownership of some wells involving Rivers and Bayelsa States. The affected states are Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa, Imo, Edo, Abia, and Ondo whom have received the said amount as part of their 13 percent derivation revenue from two embattled oil wells. After series of controversies, the River State government has finally proved that the oil well belongs to it. After submissive protests by Rivers State that its revenue from the affected oil wells had been shared to oil producing states by the Federal Government since 2007, the Federal Government ordered the refund to Rivers State. In response to the directive, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, wrote the Accountant General of the Federation to effect the reduction of the money from the allocations of the seven states with immediate effect. The letter reads, “I write to inform you that the Rivers State Government in a letter Ref. No. COM/FIN/T/01 of October 3, 2011 requested for the payment of all the 13 per cent derivation revenue due to the state from Nda and Okwori oil fields from 2007 till date. “The commission examined the request and confirmed that Okwori and Nda oil fields belong to Rivers State based on the report of the Inter-Agency Committee on the attribution of offshore oilfields to Littoral states, 2008 and submissions by National Boundary Commission, NBC and Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, OSGF. “Furthermore, the 13 per cent derivation proceed from the two oil fields were shared amongst all the oil producing states from April 2009 to June 2010, while Akwa Ibom State exclusively enjoyed the proceed from Okwori oil field from July to August, 2010 and from July 2010 to January 2011 in the case of Nda oil field. “It is to be noted that the Rivers State Government had since September 2010 and February 2011 been receiving its due share of 13 per cent derivation proceed from Okwori and Nda fields respectively. “Consequently, the commission after considering the request from the Rivers State Government and the submission from both the NBC and OSGF, approved that Rivers State should be refunded the sum of N17.566bn by all the oil producing states being accrued 13 per cent derivation fund from April 2009 to January 2011. “The amount to be refunded by each state is as follows: Abia, N226.25 million; Akwa Ibom, N9. 567 bn; Bayelsa, N2.071 bn; Delta, N4.142 bn; Edo, N305.69 million; Imo, N260.73 million; Ondo, N952.54 million.” http://businessnews.com.ng/2012/11/12/oil-wells-bayelsa-state-others-to-refund-n17-5-billion-to-rivers/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=oil-wells-bayelsa-state-others-to-refund-n17-5-billion-to-rivers |

Politics / PDP - 2015 Is Not Part Of Our Agenda Yet by MurphyT1: 11:17am On Nov 12, 2012 |
Ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party has said that 2015 general elections is not yet part of its agenda. The party while cautioning its members eyeing different political offices to forget their aspirations for now, noted that such was capable of diverting the attention of the party and its leadership. The party’s National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, told newsmen in Abuja on Sunday. He said, “The PDP as a party and government in the centre is not thinking and is not bothered about 2015 elections yet. “What the party and indeed the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan is concerned with now is how to deliver on good governance. “The party has made promises to the electorate and the party is working hard to deliver on its promises and give to the people dividends of democracy. It would therefore be premature to be talking of 2015 at this time. “We don’t want diversion and we don’t want to be diverted. Governance is a serious business. Those saddled with governance should be allowed to deliver.” Mustapha said Jonathan had severaly cautioned against heating up the polity with 2015, saying “as a serious party, we are supporting Mr. President to deliver and he can only do this if he is not distracted.” On when members could commence campaign to realize their 2015 ambition, he said the party would take a decision on that. He said, “At the right time, the party will take a decision as to when preparations would commence. We don’t want diversion and we don’t want to be diverted.” The party chieftain added that every returnee members would be given a level playing field, adding that there would be no condition for reconciliation. On why some of its members failed to accept defeat in the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, Mustapha said the position of the party was to congratulate whoever wins an election in a contest. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/12/2015-part-agenda-yet-pdp/?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=2015-part-agenda-yet-pdp |

Politics / NPF Must Produce Sani Mohammed: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! by MurphyT1: 9:55am On Nov 09, 2012 |
It is disheartening that an agency established by Law to guarantee law and order now collaborates with Boko Haram group to unleash terror on innocent Nigerians. The Nigerian Police Force which ordinarily should be the hope of the people has failed again. Yesterday, Sani Mohammed, a Boko Haram commander who was arrested with the notorious Kabiru Sokoto in January 2012 escaped from the cell where he was kept with other terrorists. Recall that early this year, the same Police allowed Kabiru Sokoto—the mastermind of the Christmas bombing of Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla—to escape from custody in a manner that suggests compromise. Although Sokoto was later rearrested by the SSS, the continuing escape of terrorists from Police custody if not addressed, may worsen our security problems. The Chief of Defence Staff recently announced that over 3,000 Nigerians have lost their lives to these terrorists. Now that Sani has escaped, only God knows how many more that would be killed again. Nigerians must not keep quiet. The Nigerian Police is not an arm of Boko Haram. The NPF must produce Sani Mohammed. Enough is enough! http://www.punchng.com/news/boko-haram-commander-escapes-from-custody/ |

Politics / Tambuwal Defies Party Summons Over Clashes With Jonathan by MurphyT1: 5:16am On Nov 08, 2012 |
House Speaker Aminu Tambuwal By SaharaReporters, New York Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mallam Aminu Tambuwal, on Wednesday told members of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja that the House would continue to criticize the policies of the Federal Government, despite a summons issued by the party. Tambuwal, the Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha; and the House Leader, Mrs Mulikat Akande were at the national secretariat of the party to answer the summons issued them by the party over frequent clashes with President Goodluck Jonathan. The Speaker rejected the charge that there was friction between the House and the Executive. He told the NWC members, who were led by the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, that there was no such friction. “We are working harmoniously with the Executive arm of government, for the benefit of the people of Nigeria,” he said. “I want it to be on record that there is no bill from the Executive arm of government that hasn’t passed through the floor of the House of Representatives.” “Of course, debates must be taken, issues must be raised, policies must be criticized, bills must be criticized, but at the end of the day, we get to the desired destination of ensuring that the programmes of our government are passed. “Whatever it is that you might have been seeing, Mr. Chairman, it has to go that way, because that’s what democracy is all about.” Tukur had called the meeting following complaints from the President over the insistence by the House to raise the oil benchmark of $75 per barrel in the 2013 budget to $80. Sources at the meeting, which was held behind closed doors after the opening remarks, said the Speaker at members of his team told the PDP leaders that only the House could alter what had been agreed on. Efforts made by the party, asking the Speaker to use the PDP numerical strength in the House were said to have been in vain as the Speaker reportedly told them that “the House is one.” http://mobile.saharareporters.com/news-page/house-speaker-tambuwal-defies-party-summons-over-clashes-president-jonathan 1 Like |
Politics / Dino Melaye Is A Man With No Reputation For Honour Or Decency – Okonjo-iweala by MurphyT1: 4:55am On Nov 08, 2012 |
Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance Dr Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is definitely one of those who are presently not happy with former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Dino Melaye. However, this time around, it has nothing to do with the impregnation of any Yoruba movie actress – or maybe so. Following a protest by demonstrators at the Federal Ministry of Finance, calling for the resignation of Okonjo-Iweala, the office of the minister, through her Senior Special Assistant, Paul C Nwabuikwu, has released a press statement lambasting Dino Melaye whom, it believed, is responsible for the protest. The release reads in part: “Earlier today, a disreputable former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Dino Melaye brought a handful of demonstrators to the Federal Ministry of Finance who conducted themselves in an unruly manner… We have it on good authority that Mr Melaye’s group was sponsored by some of the indicted oil barons who are currently being investigated and prosecuted for subsidy fraud. Their allegation to wrong subsidy payments made by the Ministry is a mere ruse to conceal their true motives. “The Melaye demonstration was ostensibly to call for the resignation of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance who is well known for fighting the fraudulent oil barons whose names were published by the Federal Ministry of Finance for various breaches of the subsidy regime… Nigerians are, of course, not deceived by the antics of Mr Melaye who has no known pedigree as a civil society activist or even a reputation for honour or common decency.” http://247nigerianewsupdate.com/dino-melaye-is-a-man-with-no-reputation-for-honour-or-common-decency-okonjo-iweala/ |

Politics / President Jonathan Condemns Kaduna Church Suicide Bomb Attack by MurphyT1: 4:44pm On Oct 28, 2012 |
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has condemned Sunday's suicide bomb attack on a Catholic Church in Kaduna. The President, who was extremely saddened by the explosion, described it as "barbaric, cruel and uncalled for." President Jonathan noted that the apparent objective of the criminal and unpatriotic elements and forces behind the attack is to set back the progress the Administration has made in the fight against terrorism in the country. "It is obvious that these people do not mean well for Nigeria and its unity and development," he said. The President however, expressed confidence that the war against terrorism would become more unrelenting as the nation would never give in to the forces of terror and retardation. He added that the persistence of messengers of evil will not prevail over the will of the government and the people to secure peace and safety. "Our efforts to deal with all acts of terror and violence would only be redoubled even as the security agencies continue to receive all the support they need from government to reverse this unfortunate and unacceptable trend that threatens the peace and stability of our nation," President Jonathan said. The President commiserated with the Catholic Church, family and friends of the victims of the bombing, assuring them that government’s resolve to deal with the threat of terrorism remains strong. Benedict made the surprise announcement during his weekly general audience on Wednesday and said they would be elevated at a consistory Nov. 24. The new cardinals are: Monsignor James Harvey, the American prefect of the pope’s household; Archbishop of Abuja, Nigeria, John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan; Archbishop of Bogota, Colombia, Ruben Salazar Gomez; Archbishop of Manila, Philippines, Luis Antonio Tagle; Patriarch of Antioch of the Maronites in Lebanon, Bechara Boutros Rai; and the major Archbishop of the Thiruvananthapuram of the Siro-Malankaresi in India, Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/10/24/pope-appoints-archbishop-onaiyekan-cardinal/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=pope-appoints-archbishop-onaiyekan-cardinal

Politics / SSS - Arik Incident Caused By Mentally-unstable Man by MurphyT1: 9:25pm On Oct 23, 2012 |
SSS spokesperson Marilyn Ogar By SaharaReporters, New York Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) has blamed today’s incident on an Arik Air flight from Maiduguri to Abuja on a mentally-unstable man whose “condition was triggered off” by turbulence. Social media reports had claimed a bombing threat on the flight. In a press statement, Marilyn Ogar, DSS’ Deputy Director for Public Relations, said that when the man, an Abuja interior decorator named Aminu S. Galadima boarded the flight, Airport Management was not informed as had previously been arranged. Mr. Gladima had travelled to Maiduguri on October 19 with Hajia Yachilla Jidda, wife of the Secretary to the Borno State government, to do some work. “On arrival in Maiduguri, he was lodged at Greenland Hotel. During the course of his stay, he exhibited unusual behaviour by smashing a window, and ended up with lacerations on his hands,” the statement said. Following an investigation, it was discovered that Mr. Galadima was in poor mental health, and arrangements were made for him to be returned to Abuja for treatment. As it would turn out, terrible miscommunication then followed, leading to the lives of passengers being put in danger. “Unfortunately, when Galadima was taken to the Airport on 23rd October for his return trip, the management of the Airport was not informed, and 10 minutes into the flight, due to slight turbulence, his condition was triggered off,” Ogar said. Explaining that the clarification became necessary in order “to dispel the unfounded rumours concerning the flight,” she said Mr. Galadima is with the security forces. She did not explain why he is not in a hospital. Earlier today, the Ministry of Aviation told SaharaReporters there had been no threat to the Maiduguri-Abuja flight. That means it does not consider a “triggered-off” mentally-unstable passenger who had not been professionally handled a danger. On their part, an Arik pilot on the flight said that the problem was only as “an unruly passenger who was high on drugs blabbing rubbish.” Full text of the press statement: PRESS STATEMENT This is a brief highlight of the incident that occurred on the Arik Air flight from Maiduguri to Abuja. On Friday, 19th October, 2012, Wife of the SSG to the Borno State Government, Hajia Yachilla JIDDA, travelled to Maiduguri in company of one Aminu S. GALADIMA, an interior decorator based in Abuja to do some interior decoration work. On arrival in Maiduguri, he was lodged at Greenland Hotel. During the course of his stay, he exhibited unusual behaviour by smashing a window, and ended up with lacerations on his hands. The SSG was contacted, and in collaboration with the Hotel management, subject was taken to Atal Hospital, also in Maiduguri, where he received treatment. His family in Abuja was contacted and they gave confirmation that GALADIMA has been mentally unstable. In addition, his elder brother who lives in the UK was contacted and he requested that subject be returned to Abuja for medical attention. On Sunday, 21st October, 2012, he was taken to the airport to be returned to Abuja, but missed the flight. However, the Airport management was informed of his state of health, and they advised that whenever his return is scheduled, the management should be notified. Unfortunately, when GALADIMA was taken to the Airport on 23rd October for his return trip, the management of the Airport was not informed, and 10 minutes into the flight, due to slight turbulence, his condition was triggered off. Meanwhile, GALADIMA is in the custody of security forces. This clarification has become necessary to dispel the unfounded rumours concerning the flight.
