Sports / Eagles Don’t Need Dollars To Beat Lone Star – Keshi by MurphyT1: 9:48am On Oct 04, 2012
Super Eagles boss, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has reacted swiftly to news making the rounds that Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has promised the Lone Star huge dollar rain if they can upset the form books by defeating Nigeria in Calabar, in the final round qualifier for the Nations Cup 2013.

Speaking in Abuja, during the weekly media parley, Keshi said it was good motivation for the Liberians, but said that the Super Eagles were already motivated enough by the football federation, the government and people of Nigeria to win the October 13 match.

“We sure need money for the players and officials but that is not the motivation now. The need to return to the Nations Cup is the driving force and the players are angry that they missed out the last time and want to prove that they have returned to be among Africa’s best. Money will surely come later”, he said.

He also said the team will be delighted to see President Goodluck Jonathan in Calabar for the game and that in itself will boost the team spirit against the Lone Star.

Keshi used the opportunity of the media chat to plead for support from the media, government and the Nigerian people generally as that will help team composure.

“In Calabar, even when we don’t score early they keep cheering, believing that the goals will come, same thing happens in Kaduna, we must tell Nigerians particularly the media to spread the news that we want that type of spirit not only to qualify but to do well at the Nations Cup.

The Super Eagles Sweat merchant also revealed that some players based in Europe have pleaded with him to arrive the country on Tuesday and he has granted their request.

Politics / We ‘ll Sanitize Our Armed Forces – Jonathan by MurphyT1: 9:29am On Oct 04, 2012
ABUJA— President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday vowed he will do all that is required to sanitize the armed forces, warning that anything or conduct from any arm of the forces capable of bringing embarrassment and bad image to the country would not be tolerated.

Speaking at the commissioning of the 176 Guards Brigade Battalion barracks in Kuje, the President noted that the armed forces of Nigeria have brought pride and given the nation positive reputation.

Declaring that his administration will never toy with the welfare of officers and men of the armed forces, he said,” These are the people who stay awake for us to go to sleep.”

Emphasizing the importance of the armed forces, he said, “In countries where lives and property are secured, such countries are respected in the comity of nations than those that pay little attention to security”.

While assuring that his government will support the military in terms of their professionalism and welfare which would enable them to compete with their counterparts anywhere in the world, he said, “Let me assure the armed forces that this administration will work with them because one thing I believe is that the strength of any nation depends on the strength of their security. It does not depend on how powerful their politicians are, it depends on the security.

“Even from history, for a king to defend his kingdom or an emir to defend his emirate, he must have very strong security and even in modern times, people respect nations not because they have talking politicians who will always talk but because they get strong security.

“Government would continue to work with the services to make sure that we strengthen the Nigerian security services.”

He said he has directed the setting up of a committee under the chairmanship of the Vice President Namadi Sambo whose terms of reference include seeking for adequate funding for the security services outside the annual budget.

Jonathan added: “Already I have set up a committee headed by the Vice President and the committee was set up in one of our security council meetings and we are looking at different areas to fund some of the activities of the armed forces outside budgeting.” essentially area that have to do with innovation.”

A simple comprehension of the report will reveal that only commercial drivers that are resident and operate commercially within the State. The commissioner clearly stated that interstate vehicles are not affected. He pointed out that only vehicles that pick passengers along Lagos road (irrespective of whether intrastate or interstate) will be penalised or required to have Lagos driver licence.

The first thing is for the Retardeen to make up his mind by leading by example. telling me on live TV that he doesnt give a damn does not suggest that he truly wants to fight corruption. work towards eliminating the immunity clause. By the way, someone that consumes approximately a billion naira worth of food in a financial year in the midst of abject poverty and spent millions daily on newspapers etc can never fight corruption truthfully.

When this is done and the retardeen still needs more advise, am at his service. Nigeria will be great again.

No we arent saying the same thing. All govt will claim to fight corruption but events on the ground coupled with index like the one of TI will suggest if they are sincere or not.
In the past decade when GEj was plundering bayelsa, TI claims the Nigerian govt has improved as regards fighting corruption however the same TI claims through her index that corruption was worse in 2011 than in 2010. These years, GEJ was in charge. 2012 index is yet to come out.
if e are to go by this, its obvious to all non-bias minds that this Govt seems to be undoing what OBJ/Ribadu laid as foundation.

U called me dumb but i will let it pass this time. My normal self will return fire for fire grin

yes the same TI claimed corruption was worse in 2011, and this was released in dec 2011..and the govt took dis into cognizance and decided that this will never be anymore, so they started making efforts to mininimize dis ugly trend...months later, that same TI noticed and said, Hey! dis guys (Nig' govt) are really making efforts to eradicate corruption, and the looked critically at the seriousness of the govt to fight corruption, and saw that Nig govt's effort was second to that of US in dat line, isnt it a plus for the country? isnt it? wot exactly did OBJ and ribadu do in dat regard, it was stl here on NL dat both of them were highly condemned and blamed for the present state of the country.letz not allow hatred for an individual becloud our thinking faculty...meanwhile i neva called u dumb(i didnt say u r dumb, did i?)

are we not saying the same thing, no doubt there is corruption in Nig, which is not particular to Nig alone, we are not happy abt dat fact, but the bone of contention here is dat, efforts are being made to minimize or eradicate dis corruption frm the system, and the government of the day is making such effort which has been noticed by transparency intl..dnt u get? i dnt no u to b dis dumb. i saw the threads earlier, most Nigerians dnt read and dis makes them gullible to mind twister like u and d rest, for me wot ever i com across, i read more abt it, and help inform others. if that thread was true, i wud hav led the team to blast the president, but it wasnt.

Politics / Nigeria Ranked 2nd To US In The Fight Against Corruption- Transparency Intl. by MurphyT1: 10:43am On Oct 02, 2012
The Federal Government’s fight against corruption is paying-off in the global arena as a survey by Transparency International (TI) shows Nigeria’s corruption perception has improved.

The survey on global corruption perceptions for 2011 versus 2001 showed that the third best improvement in the world was in Nigeria, with its score improving by 1.5 points. In the scoring, Nigeria follows the United States of America, which scored 2 points, while Bangladesh scored the highest by 2.3 points.

Also in the survey, the corruption perception score showed that Nigeria displaced Zambia, Mauritius, Uganda, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Botswana, Senegal, Cote d’Ivore, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Egypt, Namibia, and Tunisia.

Barely one year ago, the Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had vowed to tackle corruption in the country, saying the move would help the ministry to effectively deliver on its mandate.

Okonjo-Iweala was appointed last year by President Goodluck Jonathan to restore some order to Nigeria’s public finance. A former World Bank managing director, she is battling to reform one of the world’s most corrupt nations, without support from the shadowy “godfathers” who wield power from behind the scenes.

Nigeria scored higher than countries like Poland, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Belgium, Romania, Latvia, Bolivia, Estonia, Slovenia, Germany, Turkey, Hong Kong, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, India, Norway, Azerbaijani, Ecuador, Australia, France, Sweden, Costa Rica, Slovakia, Vietnam, and Kenya.

Other countries Nigeria scored higher than are Taiwan, Ukraine, Thailand, Pakistan, Russia, China, Croatia, Nicaragua, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Austria, Singapore, Lithuania, Denmark, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Luxembourg, Portugal, Moldova, Brazil, Canada, the Philippines, Chile, Columbia, Jordan, Panama, Finland, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, the United Kingdom, Uruguay, Bulgaria, Malaysia, Peru, Mexico, Hungary, Spain, Greece, Venezuela, Iceland, Uzbekistan, Italy, Israel, and Trinidad and Tobago.

The survey further showed that nine Sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) countries have seen improving scores against five SSA countries that saw a decline (Namibia and South Africa) from high scores previously.

Two North African countries saw a big decline – and that may have contributed to the regime change which saw autocrats deposed in those countries. “The middle class in Tunisia was particularly incensed by the corruption in their country,” said Charlie Robertson, Managing Director, Global Chief Economist, Renaissance Capital

What about the special adviser to the president on project implementation? What does he do?

If these ones are to do their work properly as expected of them, then we won't need a tour. I expect the president to sack these ones first before they proceed with the useless tour.
now u r talkin, all dis guys r part of the tour, infact it is thier idea, the ministry of information is just acting like a medium as usual to propagate the developments, the SA project implementatn tells the president, while min of info tells nigerians
