Frank Lampard has never scored against Middlesbrough in a Chelsea shirt, but he's looking to end that run,[s] and our recent poor form on Teesside, when we visit the Riverside this afternoon.[/s]

In the last two seasons we have suffered 3-0 and 2-1 defeats when visiting Boro, making them something of a bogey side for the Blues, at least on our travels.

Lampard remembers both games well.

'The 3-0 was a bad performance from start to finish and the 2-1 was not finishing off a game, and a bad last ten minutes. We were cruising at 1-0 and conceded two goals,' he recalled.



He also raises the point that it's not just us they have a tendency to beat on their own patch, but a lot of the so-called bigger teams.

'They have got that, maybe it's something they want to put right because it means they're lifting their game for the big teams but not getting points against others,' Lampard suggested.

'It's dangerous to us, and I know speaking to Manchester United players they call Middlesbrough their bogey team, so they have the capacity to raise their game.'

Last season's defeat was our first of a season which would ultimately lead to disappointment in the Premier League, but Lampard believes not too much attention should be paid to individual results, when looking at the campaign as a whole.

'No, it was just one game where we switched off. The year before we lost 3-0 and still won the league, so results never relate to the bigger picture as such,' he explained.

'Looking back at that it was just a game that was frustrating because we had it in the bag and threw it away last year, the same as often where we were losing and went on to win the game, which we managed to do a lot more.'

There is solace in that Boro have since sold two players who were a constant thorn in the side.

Middlesbrough's current top scorer is Lampard's international colleague Stewart Downing, a player whose attributes our goalscoring midfielder knows well.The good news for the Blues is that we look to have turned the corner after a disappointing spell of results, and Lampard stated that we 'are determined to put a run together' after back-to-back wins, and with reference to his lack of goals against today's opposition, he smiled: 'It will be nice to start here.'
