FamilyRe: What Next For A Teenage Prodigy? by Mustay(m): 4:23pm On Jul 20, 2019
It may appear like an abuse of the term but for you to use the word prodigy says a lot about how you feel about yourself. You believe in yourself. At 18, you have identified your mistakes and want to correct them. Some have gone from this stage due to youthful exuberance to become monsters. Don't do anything stupid anymore. Own up your mistakes and speak to your parents since it looks like they are the ones financing your education. You have the world ahead of you if you graduate by 20 and finish service by 2021.
You are moving with the wrong company and instead of channeling this energy to much productive things, you have let it damage this budding 'prodigy'. My friend, reclaim your title. Some of the steps you will take e.g apologizing to your parents and owning up may not be easy but this is the beginning of your steps to greatness.

PoliticsRe: Ihedioha Saves Imo People From Rochas Okorocha’s Sinking Flyover, see What He Did by Mustay(m): 8:50am On Jun 23, 2019
The governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has prevented any possible casualties due to impending collapse of one the flyovers built by the Imo State Government.
Recall that sometime last week there were viral photos of a flyover in Owerri, the state capital which had signs of dilapidation, posing a danger to motorists and pedestrians in the state.

That flyover which is located at Orji mechanic village has now been sealed from public use by the state government.
The flyover was built by the administration of the former governor, now Senator representing Imo West Constituency, Rochas Okorocha. It has started cracking from the sides and has been blocked at the entrances with heaps of sand.

The government has also warned motorists not to ply the bridge again because it is no longer safe for use.
Fixed.
The earlier you guys realize that they will start writing about you in the past very soon, the better for you to know that that you were elected to serve the people and not play politics of shaming Imo State Government.

You need to grow up and get to work. It is this same Nigeria that someone has contested for elections and won but another man served the people. Ask Yahaya Bello and Rotimi Amaechi. You will see how time flies and 24 hours, 4 years or 8 years can be like yesterday.

There are other states where the former governors have been terrible but the administration remembered that it is the people that come first. They work and wait for election time to come before they start announcing sins of the predecessor.

I'm forced to comment and don't know where to begin. I just had to comment because the argument over thread vs trend is worrying. I am just afraid of what has become of our educational system. It's really happening. This is a thread that was opened by someone narrating his experience. Unfortunately, there has been a trend of some people derailing it, which is what some others have commented on but it appears that from what I am observing, some people think posting on a thread makes it trend!

Anyway, you will get to a stage in life where you won't be quick to comment or conclude. For instance, one person that posted with a lot of errors had many likes. Though, it is worrying how poorly people write but something about communication is getting the message across. We have three stages of our existence:

There will be knowledge but no experience.

There will be experience but no knowledge or lack of adequate knowledge.

There will be knowledge and some experience.

The wise one knows that knowledge and experience will continue forever. You cannot know it all and the way you react to people's experiences will show how much of knowledge or/and experience you have. Every year, new words and terms are added to the dictionary because of how millennials or internet users have used them. That teaches us context and how things evolve.

I do not want to take over someone's thread till he has got to the end. From my experience on NL, it is tiring reading long threads like this if you did not follow it from the beginning. Why? Because more often than not, unnecessary posts add up to the number of long pages and the message is lost somewhere in the pile.

Comment is free but let the writer be free to start and stop so that readers can have a logical flow. It's okay to interject but once again, the fact that comment is free doesn't mean we should abuse freedom. There are some things you will just ignore and there are sometimes silence is really golden. People keep making the comparisons between NL and other fora where people intelligently discuss topics. Readers get a lot of USEFUL information there.

Respect other users and readers please.

EducationRe: Danger Signs To Watch Out For When Using A Gas Cylinder by Mustay(m): 3:56am On Jun 23, 2019
Last month, there was an announcement about the ban on ownership of gas cylinders by Nigerians.

From Punch:

The Federal Government is coming up with a policy that will remove the ownership of Liquefied Petroleum Gas ( cooking gas ) cylinders from consumers.
It stated that the move would help deepen the use of LPG , popularly known as cooking gas , adding that the government had reached an agreement with two original cylinder manufacturers to deliver 600, 000 cylinders to LPG distributors on credit, with a pre - payment period of 18 months.

Speaking at a stakeholders ’ forum on LPG penetration in Abuja on Tuesday , the Senior Technical Assistant to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources on Downstream and Infrastructure , Brenda Ataga , noted that the planned policy on gas cylinders would require that the ownership of the facility “ rests strictly on the dealers and distributors . ”
She noted that aside from deepening the penetration and usage of LPG across the country, the policy would also address issues of safety .

She said the Federal Government would soon commence a clampdown on illegal roadside LPG dealers and urged operators to immediately convert their outlets to micro distribution centres before the beginning of the enforcement .

“ The MDCs will essentially create and introduce into the market what we call the cylinder exchange programme , whereby the cylinders are owned by the distributors , ” Ataga said .

She told operators, “ There is no need for you to decant for anybody that comes in , and that eliminates illegal risks as well . You would fill them at the refill plants that would be tied to you and exchange it with your customers because you know your customers already.

“ Your customers pay for only the content , while you own the cylinders and control the management of those cylinders. ”

Providing reasons for the policy , Ataga said , “ It is for us to be able to , at any point in time , discern and discover cylinders that are bad , cylinders that need recertification and cylinders that need to be removed from circulation.

“ We put that onus on distributors going forward , to support the safe and standard method of selling LPG . I tell you today that Nigeria is the only country in West Africa that does not practice the re- circulation model . Everyone has moved away from this because again, most of the population cannot afford cylinders; so , you have to remove that cost from them . ”
I really don't know how this will work as it is similar to government announcing that Nigerians should not own or bring kegs to petrol stations. It has good intentions but we know why the cart has not been moved first.

Our government officials sometimes seem like they care but when you look deeper, it is usually to favor someone. They wait till there is a major disaster before reacting. If we ask for example, why are there petrol stations and gas shops or retail outlets close to residential buildings? Who gave them approval? Why do people have to die first before they take action?
EducationRe: Danger Signs To Watch Out For When Using A Gas Cylinder by Mustay(m):
There have been many cases of gas cylinder explosions and when this happens, lives are lost and properties worth millions are destroyed.

However, there are so many danger signs we need to look out for while using a Gas cylinder.

Safety Tips for gas cylinders

A Cooking gas cylinders must not exceed five years: It is important to keep track of the days and replace them as soon as possible.

Do not buy used Gas cylinders.
· Watch out for the expiry dates: The steps to check the expiry date are very simple and basic. The expiry of LPG cylinder can be found on one of the metal strips that connect the body of the cylinder to top ring (handle). It is mentioned on the inner side of the strip. The strip has any of the alphabets from A to D painted on it along with a number. Decoding the expiry date is simple. The alphabet represents the month it expires while the number indicates the year. A year is divided into four quarters :

A – during cylinder change-over).
* Ensure the valve is protected by a valve cap or collar, or that the valve has been designed to withstand impact if the cylinder is dropped.
* Store gas cylinders in a dry, safe place on a flat surface in the open air. If this is not reasonably practicable, store in an adequately ventilated building or part of a building specifically reserved for this purpose.

* Cylinders containing flammable gas should not be stored in part of a building used for other purposes.
* Protect gas cylinders from external heat sources that may adversely affect their mechanical integrity.
* Gas cylinders should be stored away from sources of ignition and other flammable materials.

A year is divided into four quarters :
A – January to March
B – April to June
C – July to September
D – October to December
For example, your cylinder has ‘A 18 painted on the metal strip. The alphabet A represents month March and 18 indicates the year 2018.
Use gas cylinders in a vertical position, unless specifically designed to be used otherwise
· Securely restrain cylinders to prevent them from falling over

· Always double check that the cylinder/gas is the right one for the intended use.

· Before connecting a gas cylinder to equipment or pipe-work make sure that the regulator and pipe-work are suitable for the type of gas and pressure being used.

· When required, wear suitable safety shoes and other personal protective equipment when handling gas cylinders.

· Do not use gas cylinders for any other purpose than the transport and storage of gas.

· Do not drop, roll or drag gas cylinders.

· Close the cylinder valve and replace dust caps, where provided when a gas cylinder is not in use.

· Where appropriate, fit cylinders with residual pressure valves (non-return valves) to reduce the risk of backflow of water or other materials into the cylinder during use that might corrode it (e.g. beer forced into an empty gas cylinder during cylinder change-over).

· Ensure the valve is protected by a valve cap or collar, or that the valve has been designed to withstand impact if the cylinder is dropped.

· Store gas cylinders in a dry, safe place on a flat surface in the open air. If this is not reasonably practicable, store in an adequately ventilated building or part of a building specifically reserved for this purpose.

· Cylinders containing flammable gas should not be stored in part of a building used for other purposes.

· Protect gas cylinders from external heat sources that may adversely affect their mechanical integrity.

· Gas cylinders should be stored away from sources of ignition and other flammable materials.

· Avoid storing gas cylinders so that they stand or lie in water.

· Ensure the valve is kept shut on empty cylinders to prevent contaminants from getting in.

· Store gas cylinders securely when they are not in use. They should be properly restrained unless designed to be free-standing.

· Gas cylinders must be clearly marked to show what they contain and the hazards associated with their contents.

· Store cylinders where they are not vulnerable to hazards caused by impact, e.g. from vehicles such as fork-lift trucks.

That's because moderating the forum has been left in the hands of bloggers or those who have interests in blogging. The bloggers aim to use the membership number of NL coupled with the rush for FP viewing to attract more clicks. There was a time in the past where the source was so important for FP postings but now, people copy from newspapers and attribute their blogs as source. Such a sad day.
