Nairaland profile still asks you for your YIM. I bet some think Seun missed out letter U. Not knowing it's for Yahoo Instant Messenger. Technology industry is a dynamic one. Who knows? Google may not be a verb in the next 20 years |
UmuEri:Yeah. Just like I can get two new numbers, have a trucaller user save it as Ibrahim Idris and it appears on the website or app. Again, there are many people bearing Ibrahim Idris just as there are so many Abba Kyari, Ayodele Oluwaseun and Ikechukwu Obinna. |
fergie001:Don't bother yourself. Anyone who calls himself Private Investigator, saves a number as Ibrahim Idris IGP and thinks he's deceiving us is deceiving himself. You must think police officers, especially our IGP are so stupid to 'stoop so low' to the level of WhatsApp transmissions. Think whatever you want, they are not in the NPF for nothing. In the era of lazy bloggers who have dominated the news space and NL, this one thinks we can make judgement like all the other yeye topics by analysing manufactured screenshots. Let Police catch you there |
You are what you post. Nothing new here because we have become more social by posting our thoughts online. Organisations are not just looking out for your views (which you are entitled to), they are also looking at how you post sensitive information online. So, before they engage you, ts better they're not engaging someone who will come online to spill company gists. Just make sure you're not top ranked for negative or controversial posts. We are evolving and things will still change in the future. As social animals, we observe ourselves. Even when you get the job, what you post online or in company WhatsApp group messages still matter. Be a corporate politician |
Davido did not witness a crime, he saw a crime scene. He did not know if someone or some people robbed the bank. If the police want to invite witnesses of the incident, Davido will not be who they will go to. So much exaggeration in "Watching As Robbers Rob A Bank In Atlanta America" ![]() |
Threat to national security is a common phrase that tends to be abused. |
kellyJames5:It is still dicey. Lawyers will say they deserve to be reformed because they were not in the right frame of mind. Human Right Activists will say they deserve to live because they have the right to live and government should help revive them mentally. Their families will say they used to be in the right frame of mind. They will show you pictures of when they were normal before they lost their minds The victims will say they don't care if they are in the right frame of mind or not. They lost loved ones. Taxpayers will say we cannot be wasting money on these guys who have killed and not in the right frame of mind. The State will weigh the options of funding people who have caused death of taxpayers and not in the right frame of mind. |
kellyJames5:The State does not see it that way. Have you thought of a mass murderer, someone who rapes victims before killing them, someone who does Badoo for instance. There are so many examples and it is not just people who kill with rifles, knives or other form of ammunition. Some have willingly killed people in their professions as medical doctors, mechanics or bankers. The methods may be different but the effects cause pain to the society. The person is an unwanted element. So, before he or she is 'just helpless', consider those who have suffered from the person's crimes. I have only given you one side. There is another side that gives you instances of people who were wrongly sentenced and killed. In the US, there is a movie producer/director who has documented cases where people were wrongly convicted and framed up by the Police. There are even cases where the fingerprint and DNA evidences are called into questioning but the Police just looks for one evidence to nail the defendant so as to bury the case. For Nigeria, there is a religious angle (forgiveness, killing someone) to it because of issues like this. How sure are you that you are executing the wrong person? Both reasons are why our governors find it hard to sign execution orders. The inmates themselves are traumatised by 'waiting for death' During military era, they didn't send all that. Well, it takes the fear of not dying to be a soldier. |
Hey Parents, please learn this as a safety tip with children. NEVER NEVER EVER leave children alone in vehicles. Never, even for a little while. There is no need to insult him as raising children can wear parents out and they tend to overlook little things at times. Some are simply exhausted or just thinking like adults (and forgetting that children think mostly as KIDS). We take it for granted that we will just go check and quickly get back but you are responsible for the safety of your children. This crazy man could have either kidnapped or pushed the kid away (he may not want unnecessary baggage, the car may just be priority). The father could even have decided not to switch off the engine so that the AC could keep running so his daughter could be comfortable. Whatever, safety first. The art of policing is learnt in parenting ![]() |
kellyJames5:It's a job, they are prison officials and there are procedures to the executions too ![]() Well, see it as "killing the criminal". The State is killing the person who has committed crime against it. That is the way they see it just like soldiers who 'fight the enemy'. Nigeria had public executions during military rule too. |
kellyJames5:This one that there's resistance to executions. This Malay may be proving tough guy now but whoever kills has that trauma in him. The security guys face this too. Except the person is crazy upstairs, there's no way they won't have the feeling. Even this robot, who will set it up? Who'll press the command button? There comes the ethical questions. Assisted death appears easier but someone is administering the injection, activating the electric chair or whatever poison is used to kill. |
kellyJames5:Not easy at all. BBC once featured an American hangman who was dealing with the effects of his executions. He almost killed himself some years after retirement. It's a crazy thing and the process of becoming one is rigid. |
Chukazu:They made the move long time ago. See how much Nigeria is losing from taxes when they don't allow industries thrive. It's cheaper for them to produce from Ghana than Nigeria. |
Maybe Saraki is a Political Doctor because all the doctors JOHESU had complained about, only Saraki seemed to have the midas touch as a Medical Doctor. Your enemy's friend is your friend. They just used Saraki to save face |
He locked the door this time around to prevent his own escape. Anger with weapons are WMD. Her statement on him being the husband of her youth has features of Stockholm syndrome. It looks foolish to us but then again, mental health care and counselling are easily ignored in Nigeria. |
Orpe7:So correct. Naptu has a thread on the various bus initiatives Lagos has tried. The problem is importing other cities' models into Lagos rather than modifying what we have and phasing out gradually. We tend to ignore the reasons Okada and Keke Marwa (tricycles) are still a popular option for Lagosians. We just want to bring in what we admire from other cities while ignoring our peculiarities. Please don't call it mega city, that one failed with Fashola. Now, they call it Smart City and have smart ideas to privatize public utilities. Let's find out those behind the bus imports and we won't go farther than where we are coming from - selfish interests at play. If BRT was done with the genuine intention of the masses, Danfo would be a less popular option by now. |
France and their colonies. France has a stronghold of these countries. A fairytale story may emerge later in the future where this guy goes back home to contest in elections. |
Surulere United sounds like a football team. You can't be supporting Arsenal and Manchester United at the same time. You disown Femi but support Remi who is representing Lagos Central. Maybe they're playing a game of numbers - 3 (Remi) + 2(Ambode) =/ 5. Nonsense. By now, these groups ought to know that Lagos politics is beyond Group A supports CYZ or endorses BYT. That's cheap propaganda and media play. Who endorsement epp? Only the politicians who sponsor it because at the polling units, endorsements are not fingerprints. Remain focused and choose your battles. The people's votes will decide. |
Let's analyse this headline: Man Orders All His Properties To Be Buried With Him Leaving His Wife With Nothing She is actually left with nothing. The man is dead so what else is left? You want her to be buried with him? Indeed, we are nothing but pencils in the hand of the creator. We came with nothing and are going back with nothing. Those properties and the dead man are all nothing because they are non-living things. |
They should just consider the fire service and build their skills in that area or consider para military. It is a great place to work in such countries due to the risks involved. Not a lot of people have that liver to venture in the industry. I have read some comments who think the whole stuff was even set up - conspiracy theorists will always be present but people should be careful when it comes to imitating stuff on social media. Let's use our smartphones SMARTLY - we have seen people dying or getting themselves injured in all these copy copy. What the Malian did was very risk as he had no safety equipment and he could have easily slipped. @ the first picture in the Op's post, that guy should just forget it. Mamoudou did not rescue the child only to drop him or her to the ground www.nairaland.com/attachments/7180109_pariso1_jpg5c9eee3ce21ef959bb14dd8155c1ef35 |
Safety first. The things social media make people do. That child is just an airbag cushion |
I wish the elected represetatives of Kogi safe health. Their Governor was on crutches last month. This month, one of their Senators plans to resume with crutches. All in a bid to serve the Kogi people better ![]() |
yarimo:It doesn't look like he will hand over. He would be busy at Abuja swearing in as the President of Nigeria. No time for local politics |
What is the dress code for the beach? The picture has people in suits and traditional attire so what's the big deal? If the purpose was to just go snap pictures, they've achieved that. If they just branched to visit the beach and had the opportunity to snap some pictures, they've achieved that. A picture does not always tell the full story. |
gonkin:True for many of them but for the corporate banks, you will hardly see such. Citi, StanChart are a few to mention. |
For someone who lived in a country with free health-care and health insurance, it's apparent that there was nothing you could do health wise. "it wasn’t that she needed fund to get anything done; it was just a situation that was beyond everybody, and I pray that God gives everyone of us the grace to live long” It was definitely beyond you all going by the reports. No matter how much we gofund ourselves, we keep kidding ourselves if we don't force these leaders to provide basic amenities for the people. Outside the world of fantasy is reality and the reality we live in is that we can't fantasise good health-care in Nigeria, it has to be real. |
What has happened is that our Presidents have made their media aides appear larger than life by delegating some of their duties to them and shying away from Nigerians. Only Late Yar'Adua managed this aspect well in his short term. The media aides keep distracting us from the prime focus. |
When you help someone with the expectation of payback, that's not help, that's a loan with compound interest. It's amazing how people are saying A helped B and B messed up. Like someone posted, unless you're privy to the private affairs of couples, all these observations are just roadside talk but what is of concern to me is this. You help people out of freewill. You help those you love because you love them. They may mess up and that will hurt you but it can never remove the love you have or had for them. People are in marriages to improve themselves so stop this blackmail card of reward expectations. Sometimes, being away from that person is even because you love them more as your continuous stay with such person will contaminate you. That's when there are two negative sides. You can't have any spark. Whatever the case is, let's remember that YOLO. Don't tie your love or happiness to anyone as a means of existence. Love freely and save your conscience from any hurt. Should that other party mess up, at least you're sure your days are not cold without him or her. Decode the message. |
Relating the marital status of an individual to having an opinion doesn't make sense. Whether anyone has a bad family or relationship does not deny them their expressions. It is the expressions we debate not the individual. Picking on an individual's life to a discussion is low level. |
That storyteller guy in one of the twitter reactions asked the same question I had in mind. Can there be more specific timelines even though it's a forecast Looks like the job of being specific has been delegated to the residents when the tweet advises residents be vigilant. ![]() NIMET's job is to forecast. It's the job of federal, state and local governments to take action to reduce the effect (evacuations, clearing drainages, etc.). NIMET has done its job. It's now left to the government to do its job.[/quote]Just to add; it is now the job of the media agencies (Hausa, community radio or conventional) to disseminate this information to the people. NOA Kaduna should start sensitizing people on what to do. Same with NEMA. Better we are proactive this time. |
2 issues are brought to the fore here 1. Labour laws: I see some justifying the employer's decision to sack because he has to cater for his business bla bla bla but that remains a form of discrimination. Most private establishments give women tough times when it comes to taking care of babies and it is a tough time for women to cope with career. The same country advocates breast feeding a child which leads to the next point. 2. Poor welfare: If the state had proper welfare for its people, she wouldn't need to be this scared. She even mentioned that she almost collapsed and was unhappy after knowing the scan results. Remember the man who ran away from when his wife also gave birth to multiple babies in Lagos? Lagos State Government had to step in to support. How many would they continue to support? A social net will help to cater for the children if we are concerned about our 'leaders of tomorrow'. It is so sad but this woman is not ignorant - she is a teacher with dreams to achieve something in her career and family. The way Nigeria is designed now, we are our own governments so everyone will keep contributing to help her. Knowing this, I am surprised the OP left out the contact details available on the Vanguard Website. See, when people read stories like this, they are viewing it from different angles. Some want to just comment for the analysis sake, some want to help and some just want to skip. The least Op culd have done was to drop this for whoever needed it: If you are touched by her story please contact Ifeanyi and Precious on +2348167949814. |
punisha:It will be taking against her for negligence. She is responsible for the safety of her child using the escalator |
